My experience was different than many of the reviews complaining of bad service. Our server was pleasant, attentive, and prompt with bringing out our food and drinks. Okami is located in the APEX business center, and is one of the few Japanese restaurants in the area. Pricing for sushi, tempura, noodles, beef and chicken dinners are very reasonable. Portions are generous, and more importantly, I didn't get sick after eating here. My gf and I went here last Saturday and had a great time! The atmosphere was great, and the waiters and chef were friendly. Just a heads up- hibachi is meant to be an experience, so don't go if you're in a rush. The waitresses were running their bums off, but it still took a bit of time for them to take our order, and for the chef to start cooking. We had the crab rangoons (tasty) and two of the hibachi dinners. Everything was delicious, but I do wish they had more sauces to choose from. Sashimi comes and it didn't take long for me not to trust it. You know that goopy mouth feel that coats your tongue and signals that the fish is past its "best by" date? Yeah. Supermarket sushi (we're talking Market Basket, not Whole Foods) is consistently better, unless a vague sense of nausea is your thing. I ordered for the second time my meal, and we waited over an hour and a half to get my food because it wasn't ready. They were literally chillin, if they were busy that would be understandable, but you can see the waiters sitting in the sushi bar, the cooks, just talking, while you wait for a while in the front, trying to get someone's attention. And after receiving my order, I realized that they gave me the wrong meals, after an hour and a half and wasting more than $40 bucks in food, it's very disappointing. I placed the order exactly at 12:01 and whoever put the order on the computer/system, realized that my order came in and put it on the system by 12:48. Made a reservation for 6 of us for my sons birthday as he loves hibachi. We had a very inexperienced hibachi chef, barely talked to us or did any of the typical hibachi style preparations etc. He must have turned the overhead hood on incorrectly as all it did was push the steam directly into my sons face the entire time so he couldn't even watch. No other grill / table area had the steam/smoke pushing back into their faces, so I'm assuming it was user error, but he made no attempt to fix it. The food was pretty terrible. Barely any vegetables or rice, quite a bit of chicken but it was very chewy / tough. At the end of our dinner, the server came over with the check and stated 20% gratuity was already added (which is fine with me, even though the service left a lot to be desired, I think we saw him twice the entire meal), but then stated it was split with 3 people and he highly recommended I leave more than 20% since he had to split it. This place needs more reviews cause it was so good! On a recommendation from the good people at Half-Axed across the way, me and my partner went to Okami for a quiet birthday dinner. Originally we wanted hibachi, but we settled on eating at the sushi bar. I ordered a cocktail for the occasion, the aptly named Happy Birthday. It was a light, sweet and fruity cocktail. Perfect for the occasion. Before we received our ordered sushi, the spicy maki combo, and the dynamite roll, we received a complimentary Okami salad, each. The salad had fresh slivers of crab and cucumber mixed with tobiko/masago? and maybe some spicy mayo? over a drizzle of eel sauce. Not sure the exact combination, but it was super delicious and we each could have eaten a plate of that by itself. We also had a miso soup and ginger dressing salad, both of which were yummy. We then received the rolls. I love sushi (eating at least once a week somewhere in Boston) and this place did not disappoint. Presentation, taste, shape, etc was solid. The dry ice was a nice touch on the dynamite roll. It was more food than we could finish so we took a box home. The staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere on a Sunday night was laid back, but the staff was still very present the entire time. Reasonably priced for sushi. Spent less than $50 total for the two of us. Definitely will come back next time we are in Marlborough to try the hibachi and bring some friends. read more

I visited Okami on a Saturday night for hibachi with a group of 4. We were seated around an empty table and waited for the seats to fill. In the meantime our wonderful server, Sophia, took our drink orders. She was amazing and extremely attentive. She made sure to replenish everything before it was gone. She even offered free miso and soup to a girl in our group who ordered sushi instead of hibachi. The hibachi chef was hilarious and kept us all entertained. He made to to ask how I liked my steak cooked as well. Everyone at the table felt as though we received excellent service. I was so happy this place was still open as everywhere else around was closed at that time of night. I ordered the seaweed salad and Miso soup to go; the spicy yellowtail roll, and a spicy salmon roll. I previously checked to make sure the seaweed salad was gluten free. I noticed when I started eating the spicy yellowtail that there seemed to be some sort of a crunchiness to it. I couldn't figure out what it could possibly be then I tried a piece of the spicy salmon, it was the same, then I started having a reaction in my body- it was at this point I asked if there was more in the spicy roll than just the sushi and the sauce. Well needless to say it certainly was not gluten-free and I'm thankful I only had two pieces the last thing I want right now is another hospital visit. When they came to my table they asked me if I asked to have it made gluten-free and I said no -because usually when I go to a place and order the regular spicy roll of a spicy tuna or salmon etc. it's just the sushi, sauce, rice, and the paper. According to the gentleman that spoke with me spicy also means crunchy they go together (unless I misunderstood) to me if I get something at a sushi restaurant that is spicy that has nothing to do with having tempura crunch added to it. Also why didn't the waitress let me know when I previously was asking to make sure other items were GF. They were kind enough to not charge me for the two rolls, but did not make more food. I was very, very hungry. Because of this I don't think I will be back. You shouldn't let people leave your restaurant hungry. read more

The food was just okay, the service was not great. An order of sushi was asked to be gluten free and it had gluten in it, and the waiter was unaware of what gluten was. The waiter also came out of the restaurant after me and my friends and demanded a bigger tip from one of my friends. We all tipped the proper amount, even a little much for the poor service received, and it made us extremely uncomfortable to be confronted and asked for a bigger tip. The waiter even asked for a larger tip than the tip we changed it to (we changed a $7 tip to $10, and he asked if we meant $20), trying to make it almost a 50% tip. we all got separate checks so the other tips would have more than covered what was owed and now we end up paying over $20 as a tip because we of a waiter confronting us. read more

I was really disappointed by this place because I had gone once before and it was a pretty good experience. I went this time for my birthday with my husband and off the bat the server that we had was moving at such a fast pace it felt so rushed. He didn't give us time to think - he wanted to know our order right then and there we had just gotten seated. When he took our orders he did not ask if we wanted fried rice for our side or noodles. I had to double check that fried rice came with it because the others at the table we're a little confused too. Our cook then came out he didn't do any of the fancy tricks with his utensils to get the show started. He just started cooking. No spinning eggs. He went right into the rice with no interaction. But then suddenly he had cooked some of the egg for the rice and wanted to throw it in our mouths. I've never seen that done before it's always broccoli or some sort of vegetable. And my husband did it because he thought it was funny but I was really not fond of having egg splattered everywhere. It was very oily. The cook did go over everybody's order to double check but one of the men ordered his steak medium rare and it was the last to come off the grill. I think he over cooked lobster a little bit because it was kind of chewy. He tried to do an onion volcano and it just fell over and turned into a big flame. I do not drink but the others at the table did and one man asked for a sake shot how they usually do that in your mouth - go around and shoot sake into peoples mouths with the bottle. And I know it wasn't because of Covid because the other table next to us had the normal routine. So clearly our cook was just not in the mood or he was just really new. And that's really unfortunate for those that are coming to a restaurant like this for their first time or people like us that expect to have our normal interactive fun time - the reason we come plus good food and we were just let down. And for the prices that's really disappointing. Even the rice was crunchy and undercooked. The dipping sauces so we're salty. I don't complain about food much and service is rare during these hard times. But good grief- save your time and money. read more

We had a $ 250 bill and the manager (owner?) would not honor a 10 dollar coupon (which was valid, BTW). We explained to the manager that it was valid, but he continued to argue that it wasn't. We then explained to him that we are in there at least once a month and over the course of the year we would spend close to 3 thousand dollars, and that if the coupon wasn't honored, he would lose our business. His response was to run into the kitchen. Coward. Bottom line is there are dozens of restaurants around and with an attitude like that, they'll be out of business eventually. Here's a tip for you if you own a business: Keep your customers happy. If you're willing to dig your heels in over less than 5% of a $ 250 bill, good luck keeping your business open, Mr. Krabs! She didn't check on the table often and at the end of the meal she got very mad at our tips and yelled "what did I do wrong?! That's all you're giving me? Was the service not good enough?!" Ordered take out from here for dinner and was very disappointed. I had the vegetable tempura meal which came with soup, salad, and rice. I have eaten at my fair share of sushi restaurants, and I've never not been given miso soup when ordering food that comes with soup. Tonight, I received the clear soup, which is the same price as the miso. I accept that this may have been a misunderstanding on my part, but I also think the menu should specify which soup you're getting or allow you the option to choose. (I ordered online and there was no option to choose anything except fried rice). Then I opened up my salad, which I had weirdly been craving and it was really the #1 thing I had been looking forward to eating (sorry tempura) and there was no dressing on the salad. It was just a sad pile of lettuce. I'm sure this was just an oversight and if I had been eating this meal at home, I would have been able to add a different dressing from my refrigerator. But that was not my situation, I had to work late for an evening event and was eating dinner in my office, dressing-less. I ended up just tossing the lettuce, what a waste! The tempura was good, I would recommend that. I didn't eat the rice because I didn't have any soy sauce, so in my view 1/4. First time coming here since the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic it generally was never packed or too busy . But last night was something else. Every hibachi bar/table was full. And it was a great, lively atmosphere. There was a good amount of distance in between each group, so that was comforting. I ordered a couple of mai tais and a chicken and shrimp hibachi. Drinks were good, but i wish they were just a tad stronger. Food was awesome, and all of our food was cooked to perfection! I went here with my family for lunch and the service was phenomenal! The waitstaff was friendly and chef did a great job not only with the food but keeping our kids entertained. He even took the time to make them balloon swords, which they really enjoyed. They have everything you would expect from a top notch Hibachi restaurant. From Sushi to Filet Mignon they really took the time to make an extensive and delicious menu. Usually when we go to Hibachi restaurants the chicken, steak or even shrimp ends up dry. Okami definitely exceeded our expectations and broke the mold. All of our meat was juicy and the rest of our food was cooked to perfection. One thing that really stood out was that they have Hibachi available outdoors! That is something I've never seen at a Hibachi restaurant before and I look forward to sitting there the next time we go. Decided to give this place a try since we were in the area. Big mistake. The prices were high and the food was not anywhere near worth the prices. We didn't eat most of our meals because they just simply weren't good. The waitress we had was even worse. Came took our orders and we didn't see her again until we got the check. Someone else brought out our food, appetizers and meals together even through we told the waitress to have the appetizers sent first, and this same person had to tell the waitress to refill our drinks and clean off the table to make room for him. The bill was wrong so needed to be adjusted (charged for an extra meal) and it included a 20% tip off the top. She didn't deserve that tip in the least bit and to have it taken off the top of the bill because there were more than 5 people at the table (all with separate bills!!!) is something I have never heard of.
