Epic fail on service tonight. We were regulars until today. First our reservation given to another customer and then after ordering appetizers and rice (requested everything brought together), servers proceeded to bring out food in 3 waves over a 1 hr period. It was ridiculous especially when the rice was served near the end and the appetizers were gone. Its always like this when we come here, but tonight was brutal. Then to add insult to injury, just found out they add a 18% gratuity to parties of 6 or more (that's 4 adults and 3 kids in our party, not a difficult crowd to serve) ok so on all our visits we have been tipping 40%. We have always had the same server so I'm sure he was happy to see us suckers walk in. The food is good ..but service blah read more

We ate at the Mandarin 2-3 weeks ago. We both had the hot tea, shared a Bo-Bo for two which was very good and California Maki plater - excellent. For entrees we had Shrimp with Asparagus (jumbo shrimp!) , Orange Flavored Chicken (a bit spicier than expected) and brown rice. Meal was very good. My honey and I will be returning. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area! This place has an excellent buffet and menu items. The sushi is incredible. I've been a regular here for the past 4 years. The service has not diminished whatsoever. Every single time I come the service is immediate, friendly, always up to par with the last time. Tan (Tony) at the bar is exceptional with his work. He mans his station perfectly well. His recommendations have given me a great pleasure in visiting his bar. I will continue to come back for their amazing food and spectacular service. I have gone here about 4 times & that's 4 tomes too many! The food is sub-par at best! The waitstaff & management is not friendly or helpful at all! I have gotten sick every time I've ate there! So I will just have to find a really good Chinese place to go when the mood strikes. Would not recommend it to anyone that wants good chinese food! read more

Love the new location! Love the atmosphere! Food is great!! Prices are affordable and waitstaff is attentive. I came with my boyfriend and as we usually do in chinese restaurants we ordered an appetizer and two dishes. We ordered the gyoza as well as crispy pad thai and "happy family." Each dish was well prepared. I would go back just for the Crispy Pad Thai! I would order that again in a heartbeat!! Horrible. Get 'em in, and get 'em out. That's the feeling my girl friend and I experienced. Food was cold, and portions were small. Service was poor at best. I do not want to struggle to understand what the server is saying. There was an issue, I called over the manager, and communication was equally difficult. With the rush, rush style and our lack of comfort communicating with the staff/manager, I will avoid going to the Mandarin, and unfortunately I recommend that you do the same. The one thing I can say on the up side is the take out is very good. Now if you have to qualify your order then good luck. John and Alissa will go to China Town or a restaurant that has style and charisma and wants us to provide a genuine dinning experience. read more

This is, by far, the best Chinese food I've ever had in my life. I grew up on the stuff. (Yes, it's true, I'm Jewish and had no where else to go on Christmas for 10 years of my life, but still.) The food is fantastic and - unlike some Chinese restaurants - you don't have to plan the following day around what you have for dinner there.. The scallion pancakes and boneless ribs are unreal. The staff is very nice, also. The glass is never half-empty there because, frankly, they'll be back at your table after you take even a sip of your water. But, hey, I'd rather have a constantly full glass than be searching half an hour for a server to get a refill. I've never found Chinese food I like as much as the Mandarin. read more

We had mermaid shrimp and lo mein both which were delicious. The orange chicken was yummy too, but insist on breast meat even if it costs $2 more. Portions were large and service good. Rice is extra. Yes, you read right, rice is extra. We ordered $40 of takeout and were surprised to learn that no white rice was included as is the nearly universal custom with Chinese takeout. We called the restaurant to see if a mistake had been made and were told they don't normally include white rice with meals. This is a chain of restaurants either called Bamboo or Mandarin throughout MA. Went here with family for Sunday dinner buffet. Not impressed. They had stir fried lobster on the buffet but they send out 1 lobster at a time and never any there. They were suppose to have shumai but never saw one. The buffet were never full and not refilled quickly. Decor was nice and modern but food didn't match. A bit disappointing. read more

Love this place for the food but also the service! The food is tasty. They have a mix of Chinese dishes as well as fresh sushi. The servers take good care of us and are attentive. Most importantly to me they take really good care of my food allergies. All the servers know what dishes are safe and the manager comes by to talk with me too. read more

Reasonable American-Chinese, good for quick lunch. Nothing that resembles authentic Chinese here (unless you order off the menu!). Large portions, cheap. 5 star for the lunch buffet, haven't tried their dinner yet. Don't wanna generalize, but they serve much better and fresh food than regular Chinese buffets. Clean sushi bar, manager was on duty and felt like we were valued customers. Salad and fruits were very fresh and their tiny little tiramisu was excellent! My only complaint was I don't eat pork and all the pot stickers had pork in their stuffing, and even the egg rolls had pork in there, but obviously that's my personal choice not eating them, still I think they should maybe put some other options with veggies or chicken inside. I loved their sushis, very delicious and they run out quick! oh you can ask for their daily soup, they'll serve you on your table. I'd say the miso soup is to die for, as I'm a big soup fan! The food from the buffet here is better than some "made to order" orders I've tried here and elsewhere. Terrible dining experience for dinner. Older couple, no kids, seated next to the child attraction of the water fountain. Cannot count how many children, sang to us, swung over to our table, etc. The dining room was almost empty, ??. Our waitress came right over and had an accent and was very difficult to understand. She wanted us to order drinks but, we opted for the hot tea and water on this cold evening. It now cost $.75 a person for tea. She then took our extra forks by the tines and put them in the clean drawer--disgusting! She took our order and brought us very lovely trays of common (and expensive in the new place) but, bland chinese food. Once it was delivered 4 people came over and interrupted our conversation to ask how things were. On the 4th time I asked if we could have some time to relax and eat- please. The visits were much better then. The Beef Fried Rice was bland and greasy. The fried shrimp had so much panko crumbs on it-you couldn't tell what it was. The spring roll was filled with mushy cabbage and little flavor. The boneless beef and the fried chicken wings were fabulous. The sweet and sour chicken lacked a good flavor--bland again. Went last night and we were seated immediately. The waitress came, dropped off menus, said she would be right back. Twenty minutes later, there was no sign of her-not even a sighting. The tables on either side of us also were waiting for either pick up of dirty plates or, like us, to give an order. We got up, left, and the waitress at the other station said that our waitress must be around someplace and she would take our drink order. Believe me, no Chinese restaurant is worth this. I like this place overall. I've been here a couple times for the buffet and once to order hot pot. The buffet has always had good food, even though the selection is a bit small and occasionally takes a while to refill. They are pretty decent at keeping up with the demand for their sushi, and it's not like other buffet places where the sushi is boring and basic; they actually offer all kinds of interesting sushi! The first time I went there, the buffet had ginger ice cream and green tea ice cream, and both were delicious. Sadly, those flavors have never reappeared. :( Dessert is a bit lacking when the ice cream choices are vanilla and strawberry. The hot pot was fun. Our server was very nice but also very new, so the manager (I think her name was Michelle) came to help answer our questions and clarify some of the menu confusion. When we told her this was our first time and asked for her recommendations, she was really helpful. I think the prices were reasonable, and we would go there again for the hot pot as well. read more

Buffet has some high quality foods with a very reasonable price. Service staff always seem to have a great attitude while addressing customers. Go for the quick buffet. Items are plentiful-so many dishes, these are just a sampling of what we've found-dim sum, chicken fingers, beef & broccoli, scallion pancakes, some sushi, fresh fruit, cake. Plenty of fr5sh vegetables and not everything on the buffet is fried or laden with sauce. Soup is served at the table and included with the buffet. They're open when many restaurants are closed-Easter, Christmas etc. read more

We are one of the regulars here. The food and ambiance is really good compared to other Chinese places in the area. They also have some really good dinner options. During lunch time the place does get a little crowded but since the decor is nice it doesn't feel suffocating. We had dinner on Saturday night. Restaurant was busy but we were ushered to a comfortable booth immediately. Andy our server was excellent. Hot and sour soup and pan fried Peking ravioli are arguably the best between Boston and Worcester. Chicken with asparagus delicious and generous portion. Beef with broccoli well flavored but we found the beef lacking in tenderness and the pieces were too thin to be truly enjoyable. Vegetable lo main was thin on vegetables and the noodles were too oily. Overall a strong performance; terrific value; it cannot be easy to accommodate a big crowd with A+ for every dish. Tonight Mandarin's GPA was just shy of honors but we are devotees and will almost certainly return often and with enthusiasm. read more

We went here last week. The food was very fresh and tasty. My husband always gets boneless ribs, and the ribs here were good: dry (in terms of sauce, not texture), tasty, not covered in syrup. We got vegetable tempura, which was very good; hot and crispy. The prices are fine for the quality of the food. Don't get me wrong, this is not your local nasty take out place, and the prices reflect that. You're getting actual food here with fresh ingredients and it's worth it. I got moo shi pork, which is one of my standards for Chinese restaurants, since a pile of vegetables done wrong can be, well, really wrong. It arrived already rolled into 4 pancakes, open-ended burrito-style, which I appreciated, since it's a bit of a messy dish. I could only eat two and the leftovers were still tasty. My husband's meat-rice-veggie dish was good. Lots of broccoli done just right with a nice light sauce on it. Nothing was overdone, nothing was too syrupy or salty. It was just good food. We sat on the bar side. They have sushi there, but I rarely eat fish because of the issues about overfishing and species substitution, however, the couple next to us got some rolls and they were beautifully presented. The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The drinks were good, although extremely strong. I noticed someone else complained about the scorpion bowl. It had a different flavor, but I liked it. I didn't get cherry at all, and I'm pretty sensitive to fake cherry flavors. They have a full mass-market bar, as well as sake, since they serve sushi. I am very particular about Chinese food. I loved Mandarin Westboro when they were in their old location on Route 30. When they moved to their new space, I was wondering how they would be. I didn't think the food there could get any better than it used to be. To my surprise, it did! The menu has broadened beyond Chinese to include a buffet, some lighter fare, and also some sushi. The drinks are still as cheap as they were in the old space, but still hit the spot! The food comes out sizzling and satisfying. The staff is friendly, and the new space is gorgeous with a modern Oriental feel. This is the only place I go to for Chinese food in the area. Don't miss it! read more
