We stopped by on a cold holiday Monday afternoon. We were seated promptly Service was attentive. Our booth was in a "breezy" air conditioned zone...and noticing I was cold we were offered a new seat and were much more comfortable. Selection of apps, entrees and sushi delicious. The 3 rating is based on smaller sized portions and $8.00 for a rather puny Mai Tai - tasty, but $8.00 for 4 ozs. as most of glass crushed ice. Wonton Soup was hot and very flavorful, but again, very small cup and $6.00 seems a bit steep. Food and service were good. We ordered General Tso's chicken with white rice, Chicken fried rice and beef teriyaki, which was dry and tough. I order a Spicy Tuna sushi roll on soy paper. I was served the wrong sushi - it was on nori, but accepted it anyway, as I liked it either way - and server brought correct dish several minutes later. I was pleased with their correction, until I got the bill, and we had been charged for BOTH rolls. They promptly removed the second charge. Look forward to next trip if we are in the area - but will stick with my go to place, Shangri-La on Madison St., Worcester. Best sushi every, reasonable portions with good prices. I've probably been going here since I was a little kid. I've eaten here when they were back at their old spot closer to downtown Westborough. I don't know if I would say this place is awesome, but it's typical American Chinese food. It will always have a little spot in my heart for all the dishes I get here: orange flavored chicken, family style tofu, green beans. I've tried some other dishes as well, it just comes down to tasting all be same almost-- which is no surprise from Americanized Chinese food. Their buffet is good, you get more options. But I also think it's a little pricey. At the new location, they have sushi as well! I've also tried their other locations and it's pretty much the same. So come hungry if you're craving some Americanized Chinese food- I know I like to have some every once in awhile :) read more

Lunch buffett!!! Quick and easy. Selection is good. I enjoy the Shrimp, General Gao Chicken, Bourbon Chicken and sushi. Now the sushi is hit or miss as can be expected for buffett it is all about timing. I have missed my fair share. 2.3 Stars Sadly this place is in decline. The decorum is still nice but the food and the service don't match it. They are even less authentic every year, bland taste is rampant. Tear open the staples in your takeout bag before you leave, many items go missing. They don't reimburse you. Tired of putting items in their book to get a free missing item the next time. Lame. I am writing this review mainly because I can go here at 7pm on a Saturday and there is no wait. As much as I appreciate the ease with which we get seated, I am amazed that this restaurant isn't seeing more business. As someone used to Metro Boston prices, I do not find Mandarin to be pricey, especially considering the quality and freshness of the food. The decor is beautiful with a clean, modern, Asian flare. The food is much higher quality than your typical Chinese takeout. I highly recommend the gyoza as an appetizer. read more

Service was not great to say the least. Ordered apps and dinner at the same time. Half the dinner came out with in 10 minutes, then half the apps came out about 10 minutes after that, then another 10 minutes the rest of the apps and remaining dinner orders came. After the terrible service we got the bill with a party of 6, 4 adults, 2 children they added on a 40% gratuity YES THATS RIGHT 40%. We will never go to eat there again. After reading some of the 5 star reviews I was pretty shocked and disappointed with my experience at Mandarin. The food was OK, but for the portion sizes the prices were steep. I did like the spinach tofu soup, although I was surprised it had an egg drop base (there was NO mention of eggs in the menu - good thing I don't have an egg allergy!) What really stunk was the service. As it was a week night there were a grand total of 4 tables with customers. The server alternated between disappearing and inappropriate hovering for the entire meal. For example, she took over 10 minutes to reappear after I specifically asked for the check, but then she stood there waiting for me to hand it back to her. On my way out the hostess couldn't be bothered to say have a good night, but at least she made a half-hearted effort to hide her phone behind her back so I "couldn't see" that she was texting. read more

I had no idea this place has been in Westborough 15 years and this is just a new snazzy location. The decor is very nice and has a patio. The lunch buffet here is pretty good too. There is a very wide selection and all food seems to be kept fresh and hot, or cold depending on the dish. There is sushi on the buffet which were some good rolls. the scorpion bowl was very heavy on the cherry flavor, to the point of being red, too sweet for my taste. Service was fine, how much is there to do at a buffet, clean plates kept showing up, good enough for me. I would certainly go back, and try some different things from the menu. read more

This place was way cuter than I had expected. The host/servers were amazing. So attentive and friendly. We went for the lunch buffet. My only complaint was that there wasnt a lot of veggie options, but what veg options there were, was pretty good. We had some of the eggplant and tofu dish and it was sersiously so good. We LOVE Mandarin for sushi. Yes, rolls are expensive but it's worth it here as it's just SO GOOD every time. The staff recognizes you if you return many times. We love Michelle as a waitress - she is so fun and attentive. By now she knows our order by heart. The manager is very observant as well. He recognizes us when we come in and on my boyfriend's birthday was generous with an app on the house and a birthday shot. Love it! They definitely know how to keep their regulars that way! I came here for my birthday and it was Fantastic!! It was late so not many people were left and we were able to sit at the sushi bar. We had 3 sushi chefs and a waiter to cater our needs and it was great. The sushi was 5star and everything was fairly priced. we have been back many times and every time is just as good as the first. read more

Food was decent quality, but we prefer other Chinese restaurants in the area. Their wonton soup broth lacked flavor, the fired rice was dry but with good pork chunks, the scallops were probably frozen as they were mushy in the seafood dish we got. The beef skewers did grow on me after a couple bites. The sesame chicken was about as expected (Tso/Gao like), though a tad chewy from a slight over frying. That about sums it up. It pains to rate restaurants poorly, however Mandarin deserves it. My SIL ordered a coke - when it arrived flat and watered down, I asked our waitress to replace it. To this the waitress refused and blamed the flat coke on the water of Westborough....odd. We ordered lomein, Singaporean noodles, and a fish entree. The fish entree did not come with rice, and when rice was ordered on the side the portion was tiny (come on, rice is the cheapest part of the meal!!) I dislike complaining about food, so I will not comment - however I would not recommend coming here for seafood entrees or Singaporean noodles. Vegetable Lomein was not bad, but was very saucy - I would have expected better from a restaurant like Mandarin. Scallion pancakes were delicious. Food arrived fast and the servers were kind, despite sometimes appearing in an unnecessary rush to serve and leave you. read more

I feel like the food and the service has gone downhill. It pains me to say this because I LOVE this place and the people here are so nice. But the last time I was here, they forgot to enter our food order so we waited about an hour to eat and when we got it it was barely warm. We had to send the peking raviolis back as well because they were not warm enough. Also, I think they've downsized the portions, so no more leftovers for us. I'm disappointed. Happy to see more chicken varieties in buffet, than any other Chinese restaurant that I visited!! Went here with my daughter for a midday meal. We were the only patrons. We ordered a hot and sour soup, salmon maki, lettuce wraps, and sizzling steak. Everything was mediocre. Having read the reviews we decided to go to the Mandarin for the buffet today. It was our first time there. The food was a good as we expected it to be based on the reviews, but the problem was that most of the buffet was empty a good part of the time we were there, I had to keep going up and ask when more food would be put out. Even the fruit didn't come out after 15 minutes of asking. Eventually one new dish at a time came out but the time between bringing things out was long. I never did get to taste some of the dishes, The other thing I didn't like was that tea did not come with the buffet. I was not opposed to the cost of the buffet, but for the price they could include tea. read more

The food was bland; chicken fingers were over battered and under cooked, beef very fatty, Mai Tai was the worst I've ever had- tasted like bottled mix with little alcohol, very small for $10. This place deserves a better rating than its getting. We had a delicious late lunch/early dinner with our toddler on a Monday. Service was so friendly. We ordered non spicy things since our kid was with us. Lemon chicken, beef broccoli and house special fried rice. Everything was fresh and flavorful without the heat. We later ordered the Yuen Yang spicy beef at the suggestion of the waitress because the husband and I were craving spice. It was amazing. Still thinking about it two days later. My only quibble is that portion sizes could be a tad larger for the price. You can do so much worse for Chinese food in the area and we have. Wheelchair access is very good. read more

We went in a Sunday for the buffet. The selection of food was great. Many foods I would typically get: lo mein, rice, orange chicken, wings, etc. plus fruit, salad, dessert. The problem was the food was quite dried out from sitting. The staff was helpful and friendly. I will try this restaurant again and order off the menu and see how that goes. To walk into Mandarin right from the start you are impressed. The Waterfall wall and decor is tasteful and well implemented. Our host greeted us enthusiastically and brought us to our seat. We came during peak lunch hours at about 12:30 in the afternoon, it was very full. We were able to get a seat very quickly even with five guests though. I did not expect them to have as many options as they did. The full sushi bar was a real treat to see. Shabu Shabu at tables with built in induction burners. Regional options from all over China. It was very varied, but not so much where it was cumbersome to navigate. Our server, the current bartender, was quick and responsive and answered any questions we had. She let us know certain times for some of our order ahead of time as the Peking Duck has a lengthy preparation procedure;which we ordered. Our food came out together, hot and fresh. Colors on the vegetables popped and none of our food had the greasy mouth feel you sometimes might get. Nor did any of it have the muddle taste as if everything was just simmered in soy sauce. All in all I do plan to be going back to sample the rest of the menu. From the looks of the sushi presentations and the fish in their presentation case I won't be disappointed. read more

My friend and I had been going here for many years and have spent quite a bit of money and had always given very generous tips. Two weeks ago we went to the Sunday Buffet. I had asked for 3 orders of the salt and pepper shrimp to take home. (at a cost of approximately $60). I specifically asked for the same ones that were on the buffet. Instead I received shrimp that LOOKED AND TASTED LIKE THOSE FROM A FROZEN DINNER IN A CARTON-LIKE THOSE THAT ONE WOULD BY IN A SUPERMARKET!! They tasted terrible- did not even closely resemble the ones that I had specified-that were on the buffet. They were splattered with hot hot peppers, impossible to eat. I called the manager and asked to get 3 orders without an extra charge. THE MANAGER RAISED HIS VOICE AT ME TELLING ME THAT HE DOESN'T GIVE OUT FREE FOOD!! (I AM A FEMALE SENIOR CITIZEN ALSO) I pointed out how we had always been excellent customers and even spoke with the waitress that we had always used. The manager very rudely said that I should've brought the shrimp back and insisted that it was in fact from the buffet. I explained that I did not live nearby and did not want to keep the food in my refrigerator until I went back there- so threw it out. He was extremely rude and sarcastic- said he didn't care about our business or bad reviews! We are both senior citizens by the way- and to be treated with such disrespect by a restaurant manager is totally unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

I have dined at mandarin many times! Also grabbed take out many late nights on my way home from a long day. Every time the sushi is fresh and well worth the money spent! I've been here on a Sunday, and while I have walked the delicious looking buffet, I haven't tried it. With this being said, I watched the wait staff REPEATEDLY replace dishes, keep the buffet clean, assist with allergen questions! I have never been more impressed with a restaurant!! Best Chinese food in the area! I am a self-proclaimed Chinese food connoisseur. I eat so much Asian cuisine you would wonder where I am really from. I have tried all of the top rated locations in the area, and really waited to review the best until I tried them all. Although this is not the best location on Earth (I have had better), here is what I like: -Quality Food is the most important factor for me -Also they have unlimited and well priced buffet for lunch during the week. -Buffet has my favorite items and is constantly refreshed -Peking raviolis are my favorite! -Quality won ton soup -Not enough to take away a star, but the service can sometimes be sub-par Also, I should note I have been coming to this location since they opened their new location (I use to go to the old one too) read more

We went to the new location on Rt 9 in the Julios Plaza. There are a lot of problems, but I'll start with the good stuff. The food was decent, and the service good. Now the problems; First, portions are very small compared to other Chinese restaurants. The portions contained a lot of fillers. Our chicken dish was probably 50% celery. Second, the prices are about 20% higher than most Chinese restaurants. Third and most annoying, they charge extra for everthing; tea, rice, and even refills on cokes. They never told us they would charge for rice and refills and I disputed the bill. They took the refills off. Well we only live a few miles from their location, but we'll never go there again read more

The food was terrible! We were greatly disappointed! We waited for the new version to open near Route 9. The building looks great (one star). We used to eat there (at the closed Mandarin Westboro on East Main Street) regularly, but over the years less so. The prices were very high for the portions. We figure they have to pay the new renovations off. They now have the same table systems (induction heating) as at the Melting Pot. Another part of the renovations, you will be paying for. T They no longer make good "suburban" Chinese food. It seems they have gone Asian Fusion. (another way of saying that they do nothing well). We ordered several dishes, so we could get a sense of the restaurant and have leftovers. The 'leftovers' were tossed. We are not planning on going back. None of the 4 dishes was tasty, (or true to a SF chinatown menu item of the same name). (The lemon chicken had a good sauce, but the chicken was bad (overcooked). The "tender" orange chicken had a mediocre sauce at best, and was deep fried when we were told by the waiter it would be sauteed, and the kung pao was just awful, (it wasn't kung pao--not sure what to call it) All of our fomer favorite dishes are no longer on the menu! The food was mediocre at best. I will get my sushi elsewhere. read more
