Then had sho mai, Salt & pepper shrimp, chicken lettuce wraps & brown rice. And we selected the choc truffle cake/ice cream w whipped cream m, one for each of course; they have quite a desert menu! The restaurant is so lovely & the staff so friendly: the perfect place for a celebration lunch. It has always been one of our top fav spots over the years. We left full & happy. Food was tasty but honestly the service is awful. My party had a tree nut allergy. Trying to order cocktails was impossible. Apparently they premix all their juices with amaretto (almonds!) but they don't mark it on the menu. We asked if they could make a drink without the amaretto and the gentleman barked that we should just order wine or whiskey, as if we we were being impossibly difficult. How is a place this insensitive to allergies in 2021? 100% would never come back - menus should list pertinent ingredients. This place fails. read more

Of all the Chinese restaurants that we dine around Worcester MA area, this restaurant is so far one of the best. However, it's getting worse in the quality (dine there 3 times after pandemic). Even the waitress that serves us sends back the dish because it doesn't look right. Prices are going up on everything, that reflect on the menu, and it's fine with me. This review was only for the bar. The latter was located at the right of the entrance. The $9.50 'Exotic Mai Tai' was good. This Polynesian drink was their best cocktail according to the bartender. Went for take out on NY's & disappointed all around. Crab Rangoon was soggy, vegetable rolls were mediocre as was the dipping sauce and the sesame chicken was the worst. OK, now that a year had passed and I've been here several times, I feel I can confidently update my review and say this is definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant to dine in at! As before, the food has always been colorful and fresh, and portions and prices are very reasonable for the quality of food; no five-dollar bucket of greasy pork-fried rice here. I have since brought my cousin (who was visiting from China and whose opinion on the subject I trust), and he was impressed as well. In addition to the gyoza, lettuce wraps, and chicken in garlic sauce I previously mentioned, the shumai and crispy sesame beef have been more recent standouts, and the cocktails I've since tried were quite good. Finally, the interior is incredibly beautiful and the service has always been polite and attentive. I should note that I have not been here for the buffet or had takeout, so I can't speak to those situations, but I know that when my wife and I want to go out for Chinese food, this is something on which we are in total agreement! read more

So during this crazy Covid time in our lives we were looking for a familiar yummy restaurant. We have always had a great meal at the Mandarin, usually sitting at the bar being entertained by one of our favorite bartenders. First let me start with rudeness of staff when ordering for pickup. Could tell she wasn't listening and then hung up before I could give her my name. Second we were told it was curbside pickup which it was not. You have to go in and look to see if your food is ready on a table and if not you walk out and get back in line and walk in again. We attempted to order takeout last night for delivery. We live on the Ashland/Southborough line. They have delivered to us twice before Last night the gentleman was very rude about the fact that we live a bit further away and that they are too busy. I also asked them to hold the mushrooms on the beef lo mein and he said " no we are too busy". And was very rude when he said it. I will not be treated that way. I cancelled our order. Opens at 1130. They would not let me sit where I wanted. I like my seat visible from the buffet so no one will take my purse. Also, I was told the buffet wasn't ready and waitress would bring me the soup until buffet was ready. When I asked if some items where ready, they said nothing was ready because the inspector was there. I was told I could order off the menu. Wait you can cook from the menu but you cannot cook for the buffet? So what are you trying to hid form the inspector about the food on the menu? Adding since Covid. I had seen a bad review because of the take out situation since COVID. I'm glad we tried. Their curbside is seamless convenient and prompt. Great food still. Came here for the first time a few days ago and I loved it! I can't really comment on much cause I only have a couple of appetizers and drinks so I'm not sure how the rest of their food is. However, I had some dumplings, wings and for a drink I had a lychee martini and everything was great! We sat by the bar and the bartender was phenomenal, he was so friendly, funny and very attentive. We ordered takeout on a Friday night for 4 people. General Gau's, Imperial Couple, Eggplant in garlic sauce, and Sauteed broccoli. The prices were $1-2 dollars higher than average. Big surprise with the Imperial Couple ($19.00 plus tax). The entree was served extra spicy and my wife complained about the fire. The top third of the container is the entree and the bottom 2/3 is broccoli. I guess we did not have to order the broccoli entree. I have not seen a restaurant pull that stunt before. The General Gau's was a bit overcooked but OK. The eggplant was very good, vibrant color with sliced carrot and shitake mushrooms. The broccoli was, well, broccoli, exactly what we ordered and then some. We will not be returning. I would view the Mandarin as a solid 3-star restaurant. We've eaten at the buffet many times, which works well for us because I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food and the rest of the family is. With the buffet, I can find enough stuff to make me happy and the rest of the crew gets their Chinese fix. I don't know that I've ever ordered off the menu. As with any buffet, timing is part of the challenge; if you get there a little late, it is picked over a bit and not refilled as quickly as you might like. The always have some type of fried rice, lo mein (usually vegetable), general gao's chicken, and sweet & sour chicken. Soup is included in the buffet, and they offer salad with ginger dressing as well. They generally have Beijing Ravioli on the buffet, which is Brogan's go-to item. Let's me start by stating the good part: their customer service is excellent. The waitress Chinese girl is super nice. My friend asked for some vegetarian option and she didn't know. She rushed into the kitchen and asked someone else right away. This gives us the sense of care and urgency. It's good. The bad part is the food: It's just average or below average. It's super packed for lunch because they have buffet option. But frankly, there is no good Chinese food around this area so people sort of have no choice. Food quality is 2star in my book. read more

Many popular buffet items perpetually empty and needing manager to be asked to refill. Taking up to 10 minutes to refill. When asked to fill items staff seemed bothered by request. Took manager intervention to get food refilled and that took many minutes. For a limited lunch hour this is not acceptable. If you are offering a lunch buffet you need fast turn around and food items kept stocked. My girlfriend dislikes Chinese food. Dislike isn't a word strong enough to exemplify what she feels, but I don't want to swear. We went here last night and she uttered the words I have been waiting to hear ever since I met her: "I love this Chinese food." I almost passed out from the shock and cried tears of joy. But luckily the aroma of the pork fried rice and beef teryaki in front of us kept me conscious. Their volcano (scorpion bowl for two) was potent and delicious, though she thought it wasn't quite sweet enough, and I tend to agree with her there. But it's alcohol, so I am not gonna complain about anything that is as strong and gets me a little sauced up like they do. It's a classy place with more than reasonable prices. If you need to hear the words you've always wanted to hear from your significant other that doesn't like Chinese food, take them here and the words will pour out. read more

For this area, I have to say sadly this is the best Chinese food you are going to find. The location of Westborough is somehow devoid of good take out/ delivery/ quick bites for a place thats sooo saturated with a large working force. I think that it looks nice on the outside as far as restaurants go. you can see they've made some updates to furniture and decor over the years. Even so, sitting there for lunch is always sort of rushed and uncomfortable and while you wait (sometimes a long wait) for your food, you can see how they cheaped out on the interior of this place quite a bit. I'll just say its a better take out spot, and the drinks really aren't worth the drive. That being said, there is NO delivery unless you have a minimum of $100 or so of food.For a few occasions I've actually ordered catering orders at work from Mandarin and most were satisfied with their food. The rice is really a disappointment , so mediocre and bland bland bland for fried rice. The General Tso's is a little chewy for my taste but the sauce is thick and delicious. The similar dishes like the Orange beef and sesame chicken are also equally as chewy. I always ask for extra to kinda drench the rice. I haven't had the sushi but from what I hear from my sushi head friends its decent, but nothing super spectacular. Lo Mein is good but I'd stay away from the Moo-Shi.. it was over salted and an over cooked steaming mess. Not the worst, and if you work in this area it may be the best option for Chinese food in a pinch. Sachi is better, but by no means quicker. But its true its hard to screw up fried chicken wings/fingers or the cute little fried doughs that have a place in every American's heart !! read more
