Great experience at Mandarin! I brought my son here after school one day for a mommy/son lunch date. I've ordered take out many times but this was the first time going inside to sit. We were greeted and sat right away where ever we liked. The restaurant does need a few updates, maybe a refresher cleaning, new light bulbs..but overall we felt welcomed and comfortable. The waitress was very kind and included my son in conversation. We ordered the hot green tea, meatball Pho, and chicken lo mein. The green tea was flavorful, pho came out hot with all of the wanted toppings and sauces, and the lo mein was the star of the show. Tons of veggies, thick noodles, and silky tender chicken. I was just about done with the pho and tried to help my son open his chop sticks and knocked over my remaining pho. The waitress rushed over and replaced the bowl with a new one plus a to go box. I ordered almond chicken, to go, on Saturday 04-11-26. Upon arrival at my home, I discovered the rice had pieces of plastic in it. I called the restaurant and the woman on duty, explained the situation. She asked me to talk to the owner, who she claimed would be at the restaurant on 04-13, 04-14. I called 04-14 and the same woman said: oh owner not here, he busy. After I reminded her of my phone call on 04-11, she changed her story & said bring dish back. Really? Three days later? I live 30 miles away and threw the rest of the rice away. I did take a picture of the plastic found in the rice. I will never order food from there again. Recently tried this spot through delivery while visiting a friend in Kennesaw and I can say that I was impressed with not only the quality and price, but the portions...I legit had three meals out of my Lo Mein dinner! As mentioned, my choice was the House Le Mein dinner combination which also came with an egg roll and chicken wing. The portion size was definitely "dinner" size as the container was filled to the brim with noodles, shrimp, chicken, pork, beef and veggies. In addition, the egg roll was a plump fella! To kick things off I always grab a bowl of Wonton Soup, as it is the unofficial way I determine if a place is gonna be good...and lucky for me, the wonton soup was tasty. The broth was rich and the crispies were plentiful and perfectly crunchy! My friends all got other varieties of meals including a beef and a pork dish from the dinner combinations and all were pleased with what they received. Price is quite fair, especially for the amount of food you receive. Additionally, delivery was quick and the driver was super friendly. This was one of our favorite places to get Chinese food until recently. My husband was eating his Lo Mein, which was in the usual plastic container, when he bit into a staple. Our first and last order from this restaurant. We ordered the seafood noodle soup and 3 egg rolls. The broth had no seadood or any other flavor...it look n tasted like hot water. The 3 shrimp where the highlight, the squid was rubber and the imitation crab was mushy like mashed potatoes. It was awful. With all the options we have in the Acworth area for Chinese Delivery, it is hard for one restaurant to stand out, yet Mandarin Cafe manages to do just that . We have ordered very large orders and they got the order correct and the food was very tasty. The wait is normally not to bad even on a Saturday night. Last order consisted of Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, Egg Rolls, Lemon Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup and Egg Drop soup.... all arrived hot and very delicious. The food was ok. The Pho was really bland and the beef was dry. I don't reccomend going here the noodles had a small roach stir fried in with then it left a horrible taste in my mouth. Made me uncomfortable to eat any of the other food. If there was a roach there I can't imagine how disgusting the kitchen is. read more

I have been getting these fliers in the mail for quite sometime and decided to order take out from Mandarin Cafe. It's a little bit of a drive but wanted to try the place. It's Chinese take out mainly so we know what to expect. My wife really liked the Wonton soup and hot and sour was OK. The portions are quite large compared to most places and we easily had multiple meals from these portions. The MaPo Tofu was really good - lots of tofu in the bowl so was happy about that. Great service - we parked in the lot and called as directed and the staff immediately came out the entry door with everything very well packaged. Having just come back from NYC where Chinese food rules, I was unimpressed with what we ate at Mandarin Café. To be fair, my friends like this place, but me...it can't compare to Buford Highway and other more authentic local restaurants. The hot and sour soup was watery. Mongolian beef was tough and sinewy with a burnt overtone. Fried rice was merely white rice doused in soy sauce. On a positive note, my husband enjoyed his wonton soup and the chicken with broccoli (crisp! not overcooked!) was better than the beef. I agree with Yelpers. The staff is nice. Terrible. Should have read the reviews on the pho. It smelled funny and not only was it tasteless - it left a bad taste in your mouth. I think we were given 3 servings of noodles and 10 pieces of meat that were overcooked. We orderd the steam dumplings and it was okay.... No one makes fresh dumplings anymore so I'm not surprised. On the bright side, the spring rolls were fresh. The restaurant is clean, the ambiance is nice, the service was fast and people are pleasant and I'm wondering if the Chinese food is better. Bummer... I don't have many occasions to eat out in Kennesaw since my parents live there (yay homecooking). It trips me out when I do because the food options are, um, different from what you find in ITP. For instance, Google search showed that the nearest "pho" place was 7 miles away. Err. Thanks to Yelp (which I should checked first anyway, tisk), I found that this little Chinese restaurant doubles as a Vietnamese place and serves the pho that I was craving so badly. It's pretty easy to spot once you get into the Kroger plaza, despite the fact that it has no immediate neighbors. Couldn't tell if the plaza is just new or has been wiped out by the bad economy. I think- I hope- the former. The inside was clean and pleasant. While I wouldn't go as far as saying the lighting and decor were modern-chic, they were definitely more so than those you see in a neighborhood Chinese place. They brought out fried wontons along with water. Their lunch specials were pretty typical, with an entree, rice, soup, and egg roll for a not-so-typical price of $5.45 (woo). Chinese and Vietnamese entrees are separate categories, not some sort of fusion. The pho was a little bit more but tasted great! You could choose from 5 different types of noodles. I just went with the regular saigon noodles, and yum yum! It was the regular ol' pho I'm used to and was hoping for. read more

I've been here a couple of times and food delivered a few times since the minimum is only $10. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and staff is friendly. I've had the beef pho. Broth was average but tons of toppings (bean sprouts, thai basil, limes, and sliced jalapenos). I wish that there were more options for pho besides rare slices of beef such as meatballs, brisket, tendon, chicken, etc. Shrimp summer rolls- rice noodles, cucumber, shrimp, and thai basil wrapped with a rice wrapper. They definitely do these right. They know how to roll them so that they don't fall apart like many Vietnamese restaurants in Kennesaw. They need a little work with their peanut dipping sauce. I got delivery from this place last night for the second time, and last time. I live less than 7 miles from this place, ordered delivery at 7:57pm and it was not delivered until 9:45pm, you do the math. Food itself is passable, nothing worth writing home to China about for sure and by the time you get it you're usually so hungry you don't care what it tastes like. For the record, the 1st time I ordered it also took nearly 2hrs, and my roommate ordered once and it was about an hr and a half. Absolutely no reason for this I can think of, don't offer delivery if you can't make it happen in a reasonable amount of time. Certainly don't quote 45min-1hr when it's easily double that time. I chose the hot and sour soup with vegetable delight. My guy got sweet and sour chicken since he is not a vegetable person like myself and he chose the won ton soup. He had no complaints about the soup and really loved his sweet and sour which he said was "the bomb" My vegetable plate lived up to its name as it was a delight! This is hands down the worst, and i mean the WORST Chinese food I've ever eaten, probably the worst food I've purchased in my life. Ever. I ordered a sesame chicken lunch special with crab rangoon on the side. Crab rangoon is actually pretty good, it's the only edible thing they serve. The lunch special comes with soup and an egg roll. Soup tastes absolutely horrible, like salt water with flavorless soggy dumplings. Ok fine, I power through it and try to eat the entree with the sesame chicken, the chicken is mushy and tastes like straight vinegar, literally inedible, I'm gagging trying to eat it. On top of that the service is absolutely terrible, I call them to get a refund or have my food remade. I normally don't even complain to restaurants but since I paid $10 for this food and couldn't even eat it I just wanted to get my money's worth. They initially refuse to do a refund or remake it and we're incredibly rude about it. They then relent and say they'll remake the food but only if I bring the original food back with me, which I've never been asked to before. All in all the food here is so bad that you can't even eat it and they're incredibly difficult and rude about giving refunds when they serve slop in a to go box. I sincerely wish I could give ZERO STARS. Please do not eat here, it will be the worst decision you make all week. read more
