Managed Moves handled a move for a little over a year ago. Everything went more smoothly than expected, at an excellent value, and we were delighted. So, when it came time to move again, we wanted to use them, but we had to take bids because money was tight. Like before, their bid came in lower than most, and we made an appointment. Then, an unfortunate event affected our finances, and it seemed the move would have to be postponed. The folks in the office, however, found a way to accommodate us, and the move was on. For further proof of how Managed Moves behaves, the response from Krista (the second of the two owners I spoke to, the one who agreed that her co-owner Steve should be fired for his behavior if he weren't an owner) demonstrates their total dishonesty. She also still can't apologize, and I don't even know what the things "beyond their control" supposedly were, since she's now pulling that one out of thin air. Yes, you had no control over the months that you kept telling me you had things in storage you later admitted you'd already lost. As noted in the review, I considered the settlement insulting, and I told Krista so on the phone. I told her in as many words that the review would remain one star, would remain comprehensive, and that not only was I accepting the settlement only to not have to deal with them anymore, but that I would be mentioning that in the review. For her to feign surprise and disappointment now is gaslighting, pure and simple. She cannot make her company's behavior, which I have laid out as it happened, look reasonable, so she is lying to make me appear unreasonable instead. Again, they lost things, they broke things, they spent months pretending to have those things in storage before admitting they never did. Things disappeared from a room they were told not to enter. (Mostly they just seemed incompetent and crude, but it's pretty hard to think of anything else to call this one but theft.) When my father died during the process, they gave us a new labeling system, then when they lost things that had both versions of the "Keep" label on it, they kept invoking the original labeling system to somehow try to blame us. Given that this was the same company that never expressed any form of condolences, this was basically them spitting on his grave while we mourned. That's who they are when they are caught. Now they are again calling my family liars, but this time in public. What Krista seems to believe is that a settlement for serious failures on Managed Moves' part, even one that she is told at the time is inadequate to the damage done, is a payment for you to pretend that the damage never existed, which is why they ask people to remove their negative reviews and why she is now acting betrayed that I am still telling the truth despite, in her eyes, being paid off. She apparently doesn't see this as money she owed my family for losing and breaking their things, overcharging them, and then lying to them and insulting them for months on end; she just sees that I didn't do my end on what she treated as a bribe. In claiming harassment, Krista is referring to exactly two emails, btw. The first was to alert her I'd updated the Yelp review, as we agreed on the phone. The second was in response to her leaving a similar dishonest reply to a Google review. While she lies and says "more than a year," both were within a few months of us resolving our business. (It has in fact *now* only been five months since we concluded and only seven since we first spoke, so her claim is literally impossible.) It is important to remember that these people will lie about anything. There is nothing you can do to prevent them doing this to your family except running the other way. There's no guarantee Managed Moves will screw up as catastrophically for you as they did for my parents, but if they do, it is guaranteed that they will go to any length to screw you afterward. It's not worth the risk. But if I have to give one piece of advice: When I told them I'd be there on the clean-out days, they argued *hard* for me not to be present. Letting them sway me from being there, knowing what I know now, is one of my biggest regrets, so if you do decide to roll the dice with Managed Moves, make sure they are never in your house without you present. Managed Moves moved us from our home of 20 years into a U-Haul to go to Salt Lake City, and Cary, Megan, Hayley, Krista, Chelsie, Elijah, Matthew, and Dan were absolutely amazing! We set everything up with Cary, Megan, and Hayley, and they did a wonderful job of keeping us updated on what was happening with the move, and everything went smoothly because of their initial organization. Krista did the walk through of our home with us, and she let us know exactly what her crew would be doing when they came to move us. Krista took pictures and discussed with us how the move would work, and she listened to our concerns and easily answered our questions. She was kind and supportive, and she calmed us with her positive manner and her clear explanations. Chelsie came before the movers, and she wrapped all of our pictures and art works. We knew that they would end up in fine shape because of her attention to detail and her thorough and careful work. On the day of the move, Elijah, Matthew, and Dan walked through the house with us, and we discussed what items needed to be loaded into the truck, and they took it from there. They were quick and efficient, and they worked together as a well synchronized team - and they still had time to share a smile with us as we saw our belongings get well packed into the truck. Without question they are experts as moving seniors, but what truly sets them apart is the quality of their service and the congenial nature of their employees -- whether it is someone working in the office coordinating moves or a person packing up belongs before the move or the individual doing the lifting and carrying on the day of the move. Personally, I have no idea how my sister and I would have survived the last 10 months without them. Since the end of October 2023, our parents have moved from a townhome to independent senior living, needed their townhome cleared out so it could go on the market, moved from independent senior living to assisted living, and had to make an internal move at their assisted living facility to separate apartments. Managed Moves has handled everyone of those situations and done so with grace, patiences, kindness, and professionalism (which is even more impressive when one realizes that the last two moves came together with less than two weeks notice each time). I genuinely feel like the core philosophy at Managed Moves is to treat every customer like family -- that is certainly the way that they have treated my sister, our parents, and me. One wonderful quirk is that, for all four instances when we have hired Managed Moves, one young man has been a member of the crew each time. When he saw me the second time we were using them, he went out of his way to say hello to me. And, at the third and fourth times, we have engaged each other in conversations that have had nothing to do with the actual move. Every member of their staff has shown me a similar level of genuine interest in us and our parents. On top of the excellent, personalized service, Managed Moves also knows the ins and outs of every senior living facility in the Portland area which allows them to be efficient and effective without disrupting the daily routines in the facility. Beyond the actual move, it is also incredible to watch the folks who come the day before the move to expertly pack everything in preparation for the move and then come the day after to unpack it all. Equally impressive is the rapid, yet thorough job Managed Moves does when handling a clean out of a senior's previous residence. Although the rates for all moving companies in Oregon are set by the state, the quality of the experiences that Managed Moves provides are where one realizes that they are providing a bargain for their customers. Even if the cost of hiring Managed Moves was double the actual prices that they charge, I would feel like I was getting the deal of a lifetime. I have used Managed Moves twice in the last year to move a person in their 80's into and then out of an independent / assisted living facility and they were great both times! Communication with the office on pricing, process, scheduling and follow up was great and although a skeleton crew during covid - my calls and emails were answered promptly! They worked with me patiently to tailor the move with pack and unpack service and to make a last minute reschedule we had to do this time. They understand the unique nature of this type of move and it was much appreciated! The movers called ahead of arrival and arrived on time. Movers and packer were friendly and engaging with the resident who was moving and respectful, careful and efficient with the pack /move. I was able to coordinate with the packer for what would need to be unpacked at the destination. This review is late because we were waiting for our internet to be hooked up. Our moving team lead by Ulysses was wonderful and very efficient! Travis even set up our TV and Isaiah went to the trouble of making our bed for us! You couldn't find a team that worked together harder. We are very appreciative of their hard work and friendly personalities and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs great movers! This review is for Janet and Davis--our wonderful unpacking team. Both of them are excellent workers and never stopped working for 5 hours on the day of our move. It was amazing the amount of boxes that they unpacked and put away for us! At the end of the 5 hours, they hauled away all the packing materials! This is another 5-star review! Lastly, on Friday, July 16th, Janet came back and spent another 7 hour's unpacking the rest of our boxes. She wouldn't let me help other than to tell her where I wanted things put. Couldn't even get her to stop and take a break. She is an absolutely amazing worker and again she hauled all of the packing materials away before she left. Another 5-star rating! I had read and heard a lot of good things about this mover and the people at Hearthstone recommended them so elderly mother (92) contacted them arranged for the move. What I found out just before the move was had been confused and said she would need everything moved by them and set up again but this was not true. I was able to contact Krista by phone and she graciously adjusted next day move so that we didn't have to pay extra for the packing and unpacking and were able to save a considerable amount of money. With very short notice Managed Moves was able to arranged a move from a downtown apartment to an assisted living facility. I contacted them and within 3 days they were able to move our uncle. They were prompt and very responsive. They were able to provide an estimate based on the detailed information I provided. The glass on a framed picture was damaged and they immediately arranged to have it repaired. I was very impressed with the whole move. My husband and I have used this company several times. First to help our cousin move then when we moved. Both moves were smooth and reasonably billed. The Estimate was good and when we found time to move small boxes our selves the price went down. The staff were on time, positive, hard working and careful with our things. It is amazing how fast young guys can move heavy things. They followed our set up plan which made the move so much easier. Later my cousin needed an other move so we called them back and they made it happen. We even had then take things away to the appropriate places. The Springs at Tanasbourne recommended them to move us. They gave us a quote but after the move they added hidden costs totally almost $200 more! I questioned them but the movers said we'd have to talk to Steve or office to find out why we weren't told. We couldn't get ahold of either. Therefore, had to pay & find out later. After speaking to office person she said was "sorry you weren't told". I was not happy with that answer but she didn't seem to care. They got our money so they didn't care. Also the movers dropped or didn't wrap our desk drawers & didn't tell us. We found the mess & items missing. I mentioned it but office person didn't care. Our headboard had black marks on it, also some of our clothes were wrapped in blankets & not in the wardrobe boxes we paid for. Even though this was a small move, it was important that the company appreciate the stress that this put on my folks. Billy came out for the estimate. He was wonderfully warm, thorough in making sure he understood everything that needed to be moved, and very sensitive to price concerns. He was very straightforward about the time he thought it would take and sincere in communicating that he would do everything to make the move quickly and professionally. Horrible. Avoid at all costs. Wish I had read earlier reviews before choosing them. This was an in-building move inside a senior facility (near the Lloyd Center). Due to COVID restrictions, neither resident nor family could not be on-site. It took them 2 full weeks to admit damaging an expensive piece of art that had "disappeared." Movers failed to timely communicate important information to facility staff and family, causing much hardship for the resident and facility staff (extra work and costs post-move). We were disappointed with our experience in moving my parents to memory care. They came and gave a bid (later called an estimate) and saw what would need to be done. They came in under the other bid we had gotten so we went with them. After a long day of moving, they charged twice what was "estimated". Managed Moves provides a service that no other estate clean-up company does -- they take hazardous waste! The other companies I called for estimates said they "don't even touch" hazardous waste materials, such as old paint cans and chemicals. During our move from our house to a much smaller rental house, we had an accumulation of hazardous waste and didn't have the time -- and the vehicle -- to deal with this ugly part of moving. Johnny and Chris separated the waste from the recycling and took all of it away in an efficient and timely manner. I highly recommend Managed Moves -- not only for this particular service, which, in my opinion, is invaluable -- but definitely for moving your parent(s), which Managed Moves has helped me with -- twice. Managed Moves recently helped us move my father between Calaroga Terrace and Courtyard at Mt. Tabor assisted living. They were highly recommended by the staff at Mt. Tabor and were a pleasure to work with. We contracted them to pack my father's belongings and move him into his new apartment. Managed Moves helped move my friend's mother to an assisted living facility. She had early stage dementia so it was important that their staff was kind and understanding, and could work with her needs. They obviously have a lot of experience working with elderly people, as both the client and her family were happy with the outcome. They also held the estate sale for the client, which was very successful and well organized. They also removed everything from the house at the end - garbage, recycling, etc, which is definitely not a service everyone offers.
