Mana Musubi generally sells out early but did you know you could place a preorder (for a future date)? There's a form on their website that you fill out and email in. If you have over a certain amount, you'll need to pay in advance (I think $50). This was the perfect way to ensure I got musubis for my daughter's class when she had snack day. Mana Musubi offers a variety of choices in white, brown and multigrain rice. There's a small lot out front. If you're coming early in the morning, there should be ample parking and people are coming and going quickly. read more

It doesn't look like much when you drive by on King Street, but this is a hidden GEM! Mana musubi has been my go-to musubi spot for work. They sell out EARLY, so you have to go in early to get your musubi. Honestly, I've been spoiled by Mana Musubi. Their quality cannot be matched. After eating their musubi for months, no one else compares. You can honestly taste the difference in the quality of rice, ingredients, and overall product. I'm always so bummed out when I come too late and they are sold out. It happens. But let me tell you, if you grab musubi in the morning, they last quite a while throughout the day. In my line of work, sometimes you need a quick snack to just get through the day. My ultimate favorites from MM is the crunchy ume tuna, spam and egg, and kombu! One of these days I'm going to try alllllllll the flavors! My biggest wish is that they would make musubis till a little later in the day. I really loved their musubis and would go back for my musubi fix. Mana musubi is my husband and my favorite musubi place.

I would say that they sell "onigiri" (Japanese rice balls!) vs musubi (hawaiian style onigiri). We went around 9am on a Saturday and their shelves were almost empty. We got all the ones available with fillings: grilled salmon (had a sign said #1 most popular), salmon and tobiko, spicy tuna mayo, sukiyaki beef (ground meat inside), local sausage, teriyaki spam, shitake chicken (no filling, but they seasoned the rice). My favorite was the spicy tuna mayo and for non fish eaters: get sukiyaki beef (if you like sweet and savory, this was a little too sweet for me), local sausage and teriyaki spam ones. I personally thought the most popular grilled salmon was a little fishy and there was not enough filling inside..just a lot of rice. The shitake chicken ones had good flavors but also so much rice. This was a great lunch to bring to picnics, they are easy and not messy to eat. Yes, they are tasty and fairly cheap but lot of rice,I wish they put more fillings (and ok charge a little more)! I came in around 8:30 AM on a Wednesday and there was still a lot of musubis available. I got to try 4 different flavors: Baked Salmon, Spicy Tuna Mayo, Veggie Curry, and Teri Spam. They were all really good. My favorite would have to be the Baked Salmon which is considered "#1 Best." Parking area is small, but there is meter parking available. Only 4 people are able to go in at a time, and there is a $10 minimum if paying with card. That's about 4-5 musubis. read more

On my first visit here, I came at 7am and they had basically run out of everything.. They did tell me that they were in the process of making some more and asked how many I wanted. They were making spam musubi and spicy tuna mayo. The spicy tuna mayo is sooo good! I would come back just for this! And I tried to too. I couldn't wait to come back to bring some home, but unfortunately, as of May 8th, they were temporarily closed due to operational issues :'( Such a bummer too because their spicy tuna mayo musubi was one of the most delicious things I've eaten in Hawaii. I had asked the worker if they normally sell out so quickly, and he said that they were under new management and still working out the kinks. Hence, them closing temporarily. Their customer service is wonderful. My order was submitted around 3:20 p.m. they day before (less than 24 hr. requested) but they filled my order for 6 musubi. At 12:30 a.m. (yes, they were responding that early in the morning) they emailed me to let me know my order would be filled. They politely reminded me that going forward orders need to be placed 24 hrs. ahead of time with an explanation of reason for the lead time. I come here every so often when there's a field trip day or need a quick bite in the area (if its still early in the day) sonce I live nearby. Great selection, clean, and workers are friendly. However, you need cash! Last couple times I came in, I really thought I was saving $$ with just a couple of musubis (which is what I really need for a quick bite), but ended up buying 4 musubis and random snacks to make the $10 credit card limit since I didn't have cash on me. Hate that. Also, they didn't take big bills either. Quality is good. They offer a variety of flavors. Taste fresh to me. I've tried many of their flavors, but my go-to is the tuna mayo. The teri-spam is too salty. The spicy tuna mayo is interesting- canned tuna with a smack of the spicy paste which is not spicy at all. Also, there is just not enough filling!! We were checking out INABA for breakfast (see other review) and we thought we'd get our musubis first.... and still they were already sold out of konbu! But we did get... ume, shiso konbu, spicy pollack roe, spicy tuna mayo. They were all good. Perfect for a day at the beach - you can grab some sides of veges as well which are also excellent. Prices are reasonable - less than 2 bucks a musubi. Bring cash because they don't accept card and be prepared to wait in line. Called to order. Got attitude from the boy on the other end saying: "our kitchen is closed. Ideally we need 24 hour notice". The kid was sarcastic in his tone. I have no problem with needing more time, but I was unaware. There is no need to berate your patrons. This kid needs to understand that this is a service industry. Everyone out there is trying to make it. It does not take anything to be polite. Mostly I hope that management sees this. If you love a good musubi, Mana Musubi is the place to go! They offer a good variety and they are fresh! I went at around 7:30 am, they only allow 2 people at a time and luckily I was able to go in right away since there was only 1 person in there. Usually they run out so I'd recommend going early just in case! Ahhh it's been a while since I've gone to Mana Musubi, I used to go eaaarly in the mornings when I would drive from Ewa to work in town as an early morning treat before work. Anyway, I happened to have to run an errand this morning and was craving a good musubi. I was sad because normally Mana Musubi is closed on Mondays, I drove by and was delighted to see the open sign on and the open sign in the window, what good luck! Turns out they are now open on Monday's as of today 9/21/2020. It's always a treat to grab Musubi from them, they have always been organized and cleanly and now with COVID-19 restrictions in place, they've upped their game. Only 2 customers are allowed in at a time (the space is rather small), no mask - no Musubi (as the sign in the front door says), and they provide a large hand sanitizer pump when you walk in. As for the food, I got there a little late (around 10:15 am, yes that's already late because they open at 6:30am!), so I didn't get to grab two of my favorites this time (the sukiyaki and the tuna curry), but I was still able to get a Teri spam lite, tuna Mayo with crunchy ume, grilled local sausage, mentaiko, baked salmon, and a regular tuna Mayo. And the Musubi were as delicious as always, the rice is always perfectly cooked and some of the Musubi are premium Japanese rice (YUM). Overall, the service is great, they package the food nicely and reread back to you what you picked to confirm your order which is nice. This is a great Musubi spot that makes for a quick delicious and affordable meal. We'll be back again hopefully soon (and earlier to ensure we get everything we want lol). read more

Which is ok, we were able to find some things worth trying. It's a small corner store yet everything inside is perfectly spaced out & organized. At the door be sure to read the signs before stepping inside. Mask are optional but all the workers still practice safety protocols which so it states 5 people in at a time. If you're using a CC keep in mind minimum is $10 which is what they showcase when you reach the register. Inside this place it's filled with bright colors & gives you a warm feeling when walking in. So many varieties to read by looking at the different types of musubis they offer. It seems like they run a special everyday but I forgot what the special was for this day. Japanese & Brown rice is also another option as well. I will for sure return if I'm ever in the area but next time I'll plan better to go earlier so that I can get the items that was sold out. read more

Just visited Mana Musubi this morning to get a rice fix. I haven't been here since they've changed ownership but I'm happy to report that the shop is still in good and caring hands. Nothing has changed about the store and as I walked in at 8:15am the shelves still had musubis. I decided to grab a white rice with baked salmon, a 10-grain rice with baked salmon and a 10-grain with seaweed (sorry I can't remember the exact name lol.) Each musubi runs at $1.90 and it was the best morning snack/breakfast. Next time I'll go for all white rice because the 10-grain wasn't my favorite. The man running the register was so nice and I'll totally come back just to support this sweet little local business. read more

I remember coming here I think back in 2014 or 15 and getting some for lunch when I had a conference at the convention center! They are just easy to eat and the taste so good! I would buy a lot and share with my friends! I forgot about this place until recently! Located on south king st right across Washington middle school in the same parking lot with baskin Robbins ice cream and Inaba's restaurant. Parking is small and can be tight during peak hours like lunch. They open at 6:30am and close at 12:30pm OR until sold out and some days like the weekends they can sell out fast by 10am! So if you want certain ones you need to come early! My go tos and faves are the spam and egg cake, salmon and tobiko, spicy tuna mayo, and crunchy ume tuna mayo! My secondary flavors are the baked salmon, tuna mayo and konbu. Shiso wakame is good too! To be honest some times the baked salmon, to me, can be borderline overly salted but because it's with the rice it balances it out. It's still tasty and not to the point where I can't eat it. My taste might be more sensitive than others and to many others it could be just right. (which is why it's still the number one best seller!) They also have flavors like veggie curry pilaf and chicken shiitake mushroom pilaf which is quite unique! Filling is substantial and not stingy like some other places 'ahem'. They also have brown rice and 10 grain rice for those who like those textures and for healthy fiber! I appreciate that they use the less sodium spam too! They also have some made with Japanese rice which is more softer and fluffier in texture. Musubis are so affordable and good quality. They have a $10 minimum if you want to pay by card, anything under is cash only. I also Love their custard which is low fat but it's not too sweet but still the right amount with the bitter caramel sugar at the bottom that when it's a little melted and eaten with the lightly sweetened custard is soooooo good! I like that it doesn't have a too strong eggy flavor but It's sooo creamy and smooth. I also like their coffee jello that you eat with creamer! They also have matcha flavored but these sell out fast and only made in limited quantities for the day first come first served! They are closed on Sundays and major holidays. Cashiers are friendly and fast! You can do. Pre-orders for large quantities at least a day in advanced. They also have a wide variety of drinks to go with your musubis for when you go on your hikes, beach, or field trips with your kids! I hope one day they can bring back their side dishes! They begin at midnight. The rice is perfect. They don't give you TONS of rice like the other place. My personal fave is the kombu which is a seaweed mix. I'm a fan of the hijiki, spam, etc. This is the best food to take on a hike, to the beach, to the park, to the airport. It really is since 1) it won't leak 2) It is small for carrying 3) it is served at room temp 4) fits the bill 5) MUST buy when you are in Honolulu SEVERAL times per trip. Go early. Yesterday, I tried calling because I had a large order of about 40 musubis. When I called, it went straight to an automated message saying that they would reopen on May 1st, which is the day I called... So I decided to go early to the store today in order to buy all the musubis I needed. According to their website it says that they open at 6:30am. I got there around 6:25 because I know that if you don't go early, they often sell out. When I got there they were already opened. The guy working the front said that since the management has changed, they changed their hours, so now they open at 6am. (I really wish that they updated their website...) But anyways, when I got there there were only about 3 types of musubis left and not all of them were the ones I wanted. The cashier in the front said that they are switching over their kitchen staff, so they are still getting used to things and trying to get as many musubis out as possible. I told the cashier what I wanted and he gave me an estimate about how long it would take. The kitchen staff only made about 10 musubis every 5 minutes. They should just open at their previous time if they aren't going to be prepared for the crowd... I was there for about twenty minutes just to get the 40 musubis that I needed. This place used to be my go to place for musubis because it was fast and organized, but now their system is slow. I will not be returning until the kitchen staff learns the skills that the old staff had. The only reason why this review is 2 stars instead of 1 is because of the cashier. He was working his butt off when calculating the cost of my musubis. He also kept us customers updated on what musubis were being made. He was definitely trying his best to keep us customers satisfied, which was probably hard for him with a slow kitchen staff. The musubis are just as delicious as they were before... Maybe I'm disappointed in the small sizes or the lack of filling or the cold, sterile store or the lack of greeting or even the lack of demand. Don't get me wrong, this spot isn't bad... just not great. They specialize in unique musubi alongside some classic musubi. I liked the curry one and the 10 grain salmon. Otherwise, my other choices were underwhelming for being small, lesser flavored classics (spam was meh & wakame was just okay). Paul is the sweetest! He is so friendly, warm, and welcoming and gives exceptional service. Okay - I'll be honest. I came here first for convenience, but was immediately taken aback by the quality, customer service, and great overall experience at Mana Musbubi. Sure, you can get a spam musubi at 7-Eleven for $1.55 (cheaper than their most inexpensive musubi), but do you know where it's made? Do you know the ingredients? Mana Musubi provides thoughtful cards next to each musubi with the sourcing of each ingredient. I don't know anywhere else on the the island that does this. Go ahead and try to name one....I'll wait.... Anyway, you step off of dirty King Steet and into the cutest little musubi shop that ever was. You're transported to Japan, where everything is made with quality and served with care. Love love love love it here.
