My husband and I ate dinner at mamas a few days ago. He had a hamburger and I had a salad with chicken. Both of us woke up during the night with abdominal discomfort. My chicken in the salad was very hard and overcooked. The salad was also soaked in dressing. Sometime ago, we noticed that their pizza crust is totally different now than in the past. This gem is tucked away, but worth the hunt! We had a party of six in a Sunday and we're seated right away on their patio. This spot has a great mix of Italian, Greek, and American food (Greek being my favorite)! The service was great. I highly recommend getting the dipping trio. It comes with hummus, tzatziki, and a feta spread along with fresh warm pita bread. I ordered the grilled chicken gyro and of course it was so good! The feta they use is nice and creamy. Consistently excellent food at a neighborhood favorite. We have gone to Mamma's Kitchen since they opened many years ago, and have never once been disappointed. Everyone should definitely check out Mamma's Kitchen at least once! This place has a great menu! Gyros, Pizzas, Salad, Pastas, and Sandwiches. They have a solid lunch menu with a little something for everyone. We didn't know what to order because everything looked and sounded great so we got a few different things to try so we went with a Gyro Pizza, Gryo with Lamb, and meatballs. The pizza was more than enough for two people. We asked for crispy crust and it came out perfect. The lamb for the pizza and gyro was cut right off of the skewer and then cooked again on the grill to make it crispy. Every bite was moist and crispy. The meatballs had great flavor and went well with the sauce. My only critique is that I wish they were a little smaller because it fell apart when I tried to them into quarters. The service was great! There was only one lady that we saw working but she didn't fail to check on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. I've heard the cheese steaks are worth a try. What a pleasant surprise! Gyros was the first quality. Cypriot beer was delicious. White pizza had quality cheese, nice amount of garlic and was not too oily. Shrimp dish was respectfully as good as in any other restaurant. All in all the restaurant was about 5 out of five. Server Elena was truly therapeutic. Yum! I found this spot near my friends' house and they said it was good so off we went! They have squirrelly kids so I wasn't sure how dinner here was going to go but the staff were prepared and seated us at the perfect table where they could kind of have their own space but not be able to make easy exits on either side of the table to run around. They were quick to bring kid cups with bendy straws and milk to get them settled. Our food was out really fast and we were all quietly enjoying our food before long. I loved my pumpkin raviolis and blue cheese salad. The girls devoured their grilled cheeses, and my friends loved the gyro and pizza. All in all a great choice! I am sooooo utterly confused by the ratings and love that Mamma's receives - it's truly confounding. My husband and I took my mom when she came to visit and anticipated a pretty good meal based on the reviews. It is truly horrible, guys. Seriously, I'm really really baffled by how much everyone loves this place. The garlic cheese bread is grocery store Italian bread with sliced mozzarella (and not the good kind). The marinara is obviously out of a jar. The salads were made with iceberg lettuce and enormous slices of red onion, plus the dressing is 100% unquestionably Sysco (it was inedible). My shrimp spaghetti in a creamy tomato sauce tasted almost identical to something I would personally make at home if I wanted to jazz up a jar of Prego, my mom's chicken parm was clearly microwaved, and my husband's caprese sandwich tasted, according to him, like the basil had gone bad (plus it was on that gross bread). I never knew this place existed in Alexandria, Virginia. Apparently they have been in business for 14 years. I don't know how I missed the opportunity to dine in this restaurant. I found it on Google , My mother and I were out shopping and I want to a place that we can get good food for a decent price. She is diabetic so we can't just eat anywhere we have to eat at restaurants that serve really good meals. This restaurant was a success. The staff is super friendly very knowledgeable of the menu and great recommendations. The coffee was amazing the location was everything and the ambience of the restaurant was very nice. This restaurant would be beautiful for a first date, family gathering, nice business lunch or dinner, or just a place to get out in your local area and to have good food. One evening I really wanted a pizza and my friend recommended this restaurant and I have been coming here ever since. I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. From the moment we walked in there was perfect customer service from each server there. That is huge to me considering I was a server/bartender for a while. From breakfast to dinner the food is top notch. They pay close attention to how food should taste rather then slapping some food and salt together to finish their ticket in time. I come to Mamma's Kitchen regularly when I'm visiting family in the Alexandria area. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Mamma's Melenzana (sautéed eggplant layered with marinara sauce, covered in mozzarella, with a side of pasta). It was a delicious eggplant parm, and a perfect portion size (I didn't have any leftovers like I normally do with eggplant parm). It also came with a choice of salad, so I got the house salad. The salad was nothing special, but the house dressing was super tasty. Service during this particular visit was fine, but not very warm or friendly. We started off with a trio sampler - it included a watery yogurt sauce (which also came inside the gyros), a feta cheese sauce (it was a little too salty), and hummus (which I really enjoyed as it was very flavorful and creamy).
