I have dined there on numerous occasions over the years. The soup of the day is, normally, very good. However, I will NOT order the lentil soup again. Why?? It looks & tastes like it came from a can of soup. The hot chicken soup is very good. The Greek salads are always very good. The restaurant is clean & the staff attentive. The sandwich platters with their, homemade fries are always good & the price is fair. I have not eaten there in several months...Why? I have felt that my patronizing the restaurant isn't appreciated & I didn't always feel welcomed . When I bought take out, some items I paid for & ordered, were not included & I had to drive back. I didn't even receive an apology or discount. I was treated very rudely on one occasion by a server who had overcharged me on my bill which I asked to be corrected. So a friend of mine had been ranting and raving about this place for months. I finally gave into her demands last weekend, and we stepped into Mamma's Kitchen for an excellent dining experience. Now, although the atmosphere was diner chic, the food and service was topnotch. My bestie had a gigantic Greek salad with gyro meat on the side. It looked delicious, so when she wasn't looking, I went in for the kill and liberated some tomatoes and gyro meat...yum! Seriously though, I think this bad boy could feed two people easy. I, on the other hand, and a yummy Philly cheese steak that was cooked to perfection, a delicious marriage of beef and cheese. As I was eating cheesy masterpiece, I could help but think to myself, "There's nothing better than cheese...There's nothing better than cheese." That's right Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore. Nope, Mamma's Kitchen brings the flavor and good eats every time. Although this diner's location is a bit difficult to find, your efforts will reward some of the finest grub around. The service is good - attentive wait staff. The menu offers a wide variety of items; I can vouch for the Gyro, lasagna, salad with house dressing (Italian). There is a variety of beverages both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The deserts look great just don't have room to even share one - serving sizes are generous. I am really concerned that my one star review from a week and a half ago was removed. How are they able to do this? I have frequented in this restaurant, quite a bit, but this time the food was unacceptable. I had a half eaten pepperoncini in my salad, and my falafel sandwich had the bread drenched in sauce and had to be sent back. The prices seem to be going up and the food portions keep decreasing. Services is still good. if this gets taken down again, I know that Mama's kitchen is taking it down. Unacceptable. read more

We are locals so we already know and love Mama's. This review is overdue because we have had excellent meals and customer service for years, and became complacent. Writing this now because even in the madness of the pandemic Mama's has still managed to impress. We recently got a not-so-great meal and called to let them know... they were amazing. Not only refunding the meal, but asking that we place the order again, at another time, on them to let us know if we had the same issue again. When we did, they remembered us, told us they had spoken with the chef and found out it was a cut problem on the chicken and wanted us to call back after we ate so they could "sleep well" knowing we had a great meal. :) MaryAnn and Ramsha (apologies on the spelling) were above and beyond. O Yes so I have been coming for years. Their Calamari is AHMAZING!!! Fried hard- anyways me and the babes went to lunch and he got the kids spaghetti which was a really good portion and got to bring the rest home flavorful with 1 meatball... If your looking for an Authentic Gyro this is the place to be their pizza is cooked in a stone oven YEA and their customer service is always so sweet. The outside patio really took me for a twist, it's beautiful and like a sanctuary. If you want authentic Greek food, meet me there, the lunch specials are pretty cool... Looking for something different tonight so tried out Mamma's with a to go order. Butternut Squash and Pumpkin Ravioli, Chicken Florentine, and Baked Ziti with Meatballs was our order. My stomach has been in knots ever since eating. Not sure if it was the chicken or the cheeses, but something isn't right. My plate was super greasy, (like that oily grease you see on a pizza). This part of Alexandria is not really known for the food scene, so I was pleasantly surprised how tasty and fresh the food was. Everything was reasonably priced, they have daily lunch specials, and portion sizes were good. Customer service was also very friendly and attentive. We ordered calamari and dolma (stuffed grape leaves), and it was delicious. They also offer hot tazo tea, which is a nice touch. I ordered the chicken gyro with a side salad. Mammas Kitchen is one of our go-tos when we are starving or when I "accidentally" forget to take something out for dinner. My husband gets the gyro platter every time and is able to feast on it for two days as the serving size is huge. I love their Athena chicken as it provides a tasty healthy option. Service is always great when we eat in and equally fast when we order to-go. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great Mediterranean/Italian meal. read more

We have gotten take out gyros and greek salads from here for a few years now. The food has been consistently high quality and always ready at the time predicted. The last year we have noticed that the quality and timeliness have both gone downhill. Last night, we were celebrating a family milestone and were going to be in the vicinity of the restaurant so we thought we would give them another chance. Bad idea. The to-go orders were crazy busy and there were two employees handling it. The order receipts were lined up like an assembly line, but there was no efficiency whatsoever. Door dash drivers and patrons coming in to pick up their orders were lined out the door. People were waiting for a very long time to get their food and they were visibly annoyed. The two employees asked for names randomly and out of order. I stood there for 15 minutes before anyone even asked my name and they had already asked for names of people that arrived much later than I did. Then I stood there another 15 minutes before I received my order, which was 20 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready. They didn't even print it out until 5 minutes before I received it. I placed the order online 20 minutes before I arrived. They handed me the bag and I had to ask for to-go cutlery and napkins for a to-go order. To top it off, there was absolutely no friendliness, no apology, no communication whatsoever with me or the other patrons. The food was subpar at best, the gyros were cold and damp like they had been refrigerated, and it was not worth the money paid. We try it for the first time on a Sunday and the vegetarian pizza was delicious. We also try the Greek salad and was very fresh and tasty. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and family run. Next door it also has an Italian mini grocery store and deli from the same restaurant. The large vegetarian pizza is $18 and is 18" in diameter is brick oven bake and thin crust. First visit today. Sat outside which is very nice. Entire garden patio is covered with vines, creating nice areas of shade and some sun in areas. Was still pleasant on an 85 degree humid day. Hard to find a patio as nice in area. Server was excellent. We had the Village salad with gyro side and creamy avocado dressing, and a portobello mushroom sandwich. Came here with some friends for lunch. The food was pretty good. I had the halloumi appetizer and their Caesar salad to start. The halloumi comes in a soft pita with tomato slices and it wasn't too oily. You get four pita sandwiches, so it's definitely good for sharing. For my entree I got their make your own pizza. I got the smaller size which is pretty large for one person. The crust is thin and I'm pretty sure they bake it in a hot stone oven. There was a lot more cheese to sauce ratio, which some people might like, but if I get it again I think I'll tell them to go light on the mozzarella cheese. My friend enjoyed her Greek salad with salmon and a side of fries. A couple of my friends tried some of the pasta options. The fettuccine alfredo is actually made with linguine pasta. We were told that changed during the pandemic. Another friend tried the ravioli. It was good but it hardly came with any sauce on it, which was a little strange. The garlic bread is really good. Our waitress was kind enough to let us know that the garlic bread comes free with any pasta dish when my friend was planning to order it as her appetizer. We had the calamari, garlic bread with cheese, chicken limona pasta which wasn't even on the menu but they made for me with no hesitation, great service. Sad they don't allow dogs any more so they are NOT dog friendly. Used to be one of our "go to" restaurants in the area and a regular customer. We haven't been back since they don't allow dogs anymore. Food is good, but not one of the best restaurants in the area. I think my favorite dish was the gyro and the salad is really fresh. I had a craving for pizza and found this location on Yelp! The reviews seem decent and it was only less than 2 miles away. At first glance it appears clean and inviting. The ambiance is quaint and intimate. They have a hidden eating area outside thats adorned by naturous branches. It was a nice day so some folks were dining outside enjoying themselves. I was greeted nicely by the hostesss with a smile. I told her I was ordering to go. Since it was my first time there I went simply with a 12 inch cheese pizza to start. Waited for about 10-15 and then was on my way. The pizza at first glance looked appetizing, however I found it to be salty. I only had two slices. I didn't try anything else so I can't speak on all the food. It seemed like a pleasant atmosphere. I wished I could give a full 5 stars. I will be back to give it another try at which I will update my review when I have a chance to dine in. They also serve wine. The parking is extremely scarce and compact. I was happy to return recently while in the area. Possibly the wrong day, the wrong menu selections, I don't know. My husband ordered a burger and fries. His burger looked like it was toasted on butter and left him feeling I'll. I ordered the beef cheesesteak and it had no flavor other than the grilled onions. I asked our server three times for hot peppers and after thirty minutes and three reminders, he brought out a saucer with sliced raw jalapeños. By that time I was half way done eating and found it distasteful. To their credit the restaurant was busy on a rainy afternoon so that's days a lot for them.
