What a difference! The atmosphere and customer service have improved tremendously. Maribel was absolutely wonderful--she was friendly, patient, great with my kids, and worked with a genuine sense of urgency to ensure we had a positive experience. The manager, Anaiai (I apologize if I misspelled her name), also came by to check on us and make sure everything was going well. We experienced a small hiccup, but she addressed it promptly and made sure everything was taken care of. Went to an early dinner with my family and had a mixed experience overall. We started with the traditional ceviche, which was enjoyable but fairly standard--nothing that really stood out. For my entrée, I ordered the Vuelve a la Vida prepared scampi-style, but unfortunately, the wrong dish was brought out initially. While the staff did correct the mistake, it meant I had to wait about 15 minutes while the rest of my party had already started eating, which wasn't ideal. Once my correct dish arrived, the food itself was good--well-seasoned and flavorful, but not particularly memorable. I also tried the fresh lemonade, which tasted very watered down, and ended up exchanging it for tea. On a positive note, the restaurant was clean and well-kept. However, the service could use improvement. Our waitress was largely absent, and when we brought up issues with the order, the response felt a bit defensive rather than accommodating. 4 visits since they opened, all 4 were good experiences. They were quite busy a couple of times and the service wasn't instantaneous, but it wasn't bad. The portioms are generous and the fish has been perfectly cooked. The venue is clean and welcoming, a bit tightly packed and popular with families, so maybe not the best quiet romantic date spot, but terrific for fillin' up yo' hungries. read more

Stopped by Mambas on 1960 for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! It's actually in the old TGI Friday's building, and they didn't do much remodeling -- so it still has that same classic Friday's layout and vibe. Since we went during lunch, it wasn't crowded at all. I signed up for their app and got half off the pork fried rice, which was absolutely amazing -- packed with flavor and you can make it spicy or not. We also tried the shrimp appetizer, which was delicious, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which was really good too (though I wish it came with that buttery sauce). She made me some but it was okay lol The service was great, friendly, and quick. Prices were very reasonable, and overall, I'll definitely be going back -- especially for that fried rice and shrimp! read more

Our server's name was Karina like my name! This location is closer to us but we've been fans of the Mambo's location on 45N in Greenspoint for many years! We ordered the empanadas with shrimp, cheese, and black beans. We also ordered the shrimp plate with the mambo's sauce. The veggies were not too great but the rice was good. Somethings is different about this location from the others. Definitely didn't have the same feel and atmosphere. My drink, pepino, was very good. Food was good. Oysters were fresh. The micheladas were not so we sent them back. Our waitress was great and understood as the mix was different than the norm michelada rojas. Came here for my birthday dinner with a large group and had a great meal. We have been to other Mambos location but were excited to try this one as we saw was now open. I got the lobster signature plate for my meal and shared a cocktail de camarones. The cocktail had lots of shrimp but is a little on the swet side for my taste so I added some Valentina and it was great. The lobster plate was suprisely good! I got it grilled with a side of z style butter and it was so good! Their rice and grilled veggies were delicous sides that complemented the lobster well. I would highly recommend getting the Buena noche drink, it is boozy and oh so good! The staff was so friendly and kind and the manager came to check on us since our food came out a bit staggered. Ordered a flan with my meal to go, first off it was the size of a pudding cup so it was very small. Once we got home we opened the flan and it had mold, it was a day before its expiration date, and no way to fix it. Very upset about that because the food I ordered(fried shrimp with rice) was really good. Overall just dissatisfied and disappointed with the restaurant, especially since it's a new location, you wouldn't expect mold to be in the food. Still waiting for them to reach back out for a refund on the flan. :( read more

I can't believe they opened a new location by the Willowbrook and 1960 area! I was very excited to try out this new location, the place looks so new and clean, and it was even nicely decorated for the World Cup. I brought my family to Mambos to celebrate my mom's birthday. The food was nice, hot, and delicious but the main thing that kind of soured our experience was the waitress. If the name on the receipt was correct it should be Gabriela. We came in happy to have a nice dinner and this woman just has this sour, upset expression on her face, taking our orders in a rush and speaking to us in a rude tone. Not once did she speak in a nice tone or even smiled but I can understand not everyone can have a smile all the time. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and I'm never rude to food staff since I work in customer service and I understand how people can be but neither my family or I were rude to her and she comes to us this way? I feel like if you're going through a rough time don't treat others rudely for any reason since they didn't do anything. She really upset me but of course I tried not to reciprocate the same energy to her, but she did make the rest of my family feel uncomfortable. Will we be coming to this location again? Maybe not anytime soon. The food is great but not the service. read more

don't even know where to start with this experience -- but let's just say, Mambo Seafood is definitely not doing the mambo with food safety. I ordered the Mambo Rice with fried tilapia, and the fish was so bad I had to send it back. It tasted old, overcooked, and just... wrong. The rice? Cold. Like, health department-level cold. I don't know how something that's supposed to be hot could be served that chilled unless it was sitting out for hours. And don't get me started on the service. The bartender was multitasking in the most unsanitary way possible -- taking orders, touching menus, cutting limes and lemons, grabbing her purse and phone, adjusting her clothes, handling beer mugs -- all without gloves. I was sitting there watching a public health documentary unfold in real time. The whole experience screamed careless and unhygienic. This place needs a serious improvement -- starting with food safety and staff training. I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you're okay rolling the dice with your stomach. read more

Looks good, staff is pleasant. A lot of rice for the mambo special regular size. But the bottom layer of the rice is plain rice. No meat. And the top layer is especial. I wanted all the shrimp and beef to put to the side. But to my surprise. This was what ruined the experience. read more

We were very disappointed as Mambo used to be one of our favorite restaurants. The quality of the food was not good. The 8 grilled Shrimp skewer was super plain the fries were over cooked the presentation of the entire plate was like someone threw it together. The main dish came and the salad came 10 minutes later. The seafood soup, left a lot to be desired it was lacking taste so I asked for cilantro and added some Valentina sauce. It helped a little. We did enjoy the Rice which they are known for. What a bummer I only ate half my soup. I hope changes are made, I want to see this restaurant succeed. The server never caught on that my husband did not speak Spanish. He kept asking me what is she saying? Yet she continued to speak to him in Spanish. Lastly there was a man in the booth behind us who was face timing someone and speaking extremely loud.
