We have a reservation to stay at the hotel when we went to check in the girl said they were upgrading us however I already paid the highest price offered for the canopy room / sadly the air does not work it was 100* F or 38*C in the room !!! The are did not work we waited an hour running the cooler with no change - so we were offered a different room the temp was better f 36* C is better!!! This property is run down dirty and unsafe to stay how can anyone safely stay in a 100*F hotel?!!! Now they are refusing to refund us and threatening fees to cancel!!! Found this place on Expedia! Glad I did! The place was very unique. The rooms were clean for what was expected. The mosquitos are the worse here so make sure to bring spray, especially if you book a bungalow. We first had a bungalow and had to switch because the ac does not cool the room as it does with a solid roof. The room had 360 windows and views of a wooded courtyard which I found to be very zen like. The bed was average. The shower had a waterfall head and the water was hot! Great plus! There's a rooftop bar which serves organic products! The staff were extremely friendly and nice! They really made the experience! read more

This place deserves every single star. We found this place originally on Booking.com and I'm so glad we stayed here. It was magical. The location was absolutely perfect, right in front of Taboo and Tantra beach clubs. You could walk to some the best restaurants in Tulum. The staff was attentive kind and genuine. I know because I unfortunately got food poisoning. The offered to go the pharmacy for me and made me teas smoothies and homemade remedies. This place was so magical that my boyfriend proposed to me here. Carlos and Stephanie and the rest of the staff, thank you for an unforgettable experience. We were in Tulum for our honeymoon, and, in planning, I had thought we would go to all the places people talk about when they talk about Tulum: Hartwood, Casa Banana, Gitano, Cetli, etc. But after being sent away from one restaurant for not having a reservation and experiences the crowds and prices at the others, we decided to try different restaurants! Mamasan was one of those restaurants. We chose it because it was just down the street from our hotel (maybe a three-minute walk), and, when we had passed by it several times heading to town, it looked beautiful. And it was beautiful. The top floor was surrounded by bougainvillea. And the food was delicious, from start to finish. They brought us a free starter that was quite wonderful. Followed by two tacos as an appetizer (one fried fish, one fried shrimp), and two entrees - grilled tuna steak with mango sauce and Vodka pasta with seafood. Both were delicious. And our dessert, chocolate mousse with fruit squares, impressed even this girl that isn't too fond of chocolate! The service was also wonderful. And they had beers and tequila and mescal (we stuck with beer this night). It ended up being a wonderful, surprising, delicious meal. One that I would have again! read more

Five stars for strong AF drinks and some of the friendliest service we received in Tulum. We had a post-beach snack here and to be honest it was just okay, but the rooftop jungle vibes and aforementioned drink/service sitch made this a totally fabulous experience. Mamasan is a gorgeous two level bar and restaurant PLUS a boutique-y kind of hotel with tree houses and the like. I'd look into staying here if it meant waking up to these margs on the regular! We totally loved the mezcal margs and would probably just order those if we returned. We also tried the Maguito cocktail that I was less wild about, although the drink itself was gorgeous. The chips and tapenade are a-okay but a super small serving, so I'd suggest ordering more if you're hungry. They aren't currently doing happy hour but they said they're starting one soon, so look out for that. Free wifi too! Loved this pretty spot in the heart of the Tulum playa. read more

We stayed at this vibey hotel and 10/10 would stay there again during a cat 2 hurricane. The bungalows were secure despite winds blowing in from every direction, we had some water seep in but it was fine, the hotel and restaurant lost wifi for a day, and hotel and roads were cleaned up by the following day. We had a few drinks before the storm hit - Berry Fizz, Kibok Kih (friend got it twice), and this egg white cocktail, all good with a generous pour. We also ordered the vegan pasta and bruschetta (I think), bruschetta was ok but the vegan pasta was bomb. Highly recommend even if you are not vegan, had to fight my friend for the last bite. The staff is great, friendly and attentive. There are a lot of mosquitos but you are in the jungle so that is life the rooftop seating is pretty cute too! Bro this place has weak ass tacos. I've made it a point to eat everything in sight while in Tulum, and these tacos are on the bottom of the food chain. Please be very careful when thinking about staying here. We had a power outage along with no running water and to top it off there was a major incident that happened on site. A woman was attacked and in the early morning was yelling, screaming along with knocking on everyone's door. We felt very unsafe and have no sleep at all, the uncertainty of not knowing what happened and not having any light. It was pitch black all around us and with no air we were so hot and uncomfortable. We had to check out by the time the sun came out due to being so uncomfortable with the heat. We reached out to management and they refused to refund us at least one night. We were a group of 8 with 4 rooms and we think you should all save your time go somewhere else read more

We came here every night since we were staying in their treehouses. Their drinks were the best we had in tulum beach strip. The banana one is amazing. BUT why made it even better was the staff. My sister and I were there one night and these two drunk men came in and sat with us and the staff was quick to check if we felt comfortable or needed anything. Came by because their social media person kept commenting on my friends posts and my friend was won over. We came by around 1pm and the place was dead. In fact, we were the only people there. The staff was friendly enough, the food came out quickly and being the only guests, we were given plenty of attention. For our one hour lunch, nobody came by. We had a few tacos - the fish was good, the steak one came with blue cheese and was a HUGE miss. Grilled shrimp was good as well, but nothing super special. I believe we ordered a ceviche and felt like it was just OK. Overall, good for a quick meal but maybe not something I'd go out of my way for. read more

The woman working the Instagram account for them should get five stars as she was able to lure us from another beach club in the area on our way back to the town. She scoped out my other posts in the area and then kept up commenting with me to get me to come by for a drink and appetizer. The place is pretty cool, but was dead when we were there. The rooftop bar is nice, but the staff took awhile to get us drinks/food and we were the only people in the place. That was a bit odd. I would think that you'd be able to get ceviche out fairly quickly, AKA uncooked fish you add lime juice to and voila it's your meal. But that took over 20 mins to get to us and let me say again, we were the only people there. The cocktails we had were good and the ambiance was good. We happened upon Mamasan while riding bikes and the hostess called us over to check it out. What a nice surprise! They have a 2nd floor dining area and bar with great music playing, candle light and twinkle lights, a VERY impressive cocktail list, and some of the best appetizers we've had. Excellent service, the apps we had I would go back and get today if we had time. Mussels in a spicy sauce, tuna tartare, some delicious potato/spinach balls, another plate with fresh vegetables and octopus. Just delicious flavors! Also worth noting they are carrying some really nice wine from Baja California and have excellent mezcal cocktails. Overall one of our faves so far in Tulum, and after 2 visits in as many years, we've tried several restaurants. My wife and I decided to stop at Mamasan for a rooftop sunset drink and dinner on the beach road. We were welcomed in with open arms and were treated to a lovely experience by Enrique and Alex. Food was delicious, and the drinks, well, probably the two of the most addicting drinks I've been made. There is no drink menu so prepare for great recommendations by the mixologist. Not a crowded place, so you will feel the attention and love. Open up a bit and get to know those who look after you and the experience will be that much better. My family and I had the good fortune to dine at this fantastic restaurant while we were on vacation in Tulum. We ordered basically the entire menu and every dish was masterfully crafted and cooked perfectly. The music was excellent (especially if you're like me and don't care much for mariachi) and the ambience was very cozy. Me and my best friend was recently there for our birthdays. Our flight got delayed and we caught a flat tire on the 2.5 ride there , but as soon as we arrived we were greeted with open arms and the host said we were waiting for you! Now my disclaimer is we stayed in a treehouse because we chose to meaning this is not no luxury 5 star Waldorf Astoria . This is a very personable , down to earth and clean "home" with a group of staff who truly cares for you! The drinks were amazing! The shrimp was to die for! I didn't like the cocoa ice cream but that's my fault because I don't like cocoa but wanted to try something different ! One day I was short cash for my taxi and the owner helped me by giving me some money. Not every taxi drivers has US dollar currency. I will def stay here again if given the chance .
