Welcome to Techno-Chicken! As you walk in the door prepared to whip out your glow sticks as the massive speakers belt out dance music at 1 million decibels at noon on a Tuesday. I haven't perused all the reviews here but I'd imagine some people don't like it. I was not one of them. There are roughly 2 billion Pollo spots in the area, I've eaten at about 40 of them and this is one of the ones I will never forget. Never change Techno-Chicken! The atmosphere aside, I have to talk about the chicken. It was a little below mediocre. Out of the dozens and dozens of places I've eaten chicken at this one was below the average. The fries were piled high but not good fries, although I don't bump places down for sides because I typically hate sides and reluctantly order fries everywhere even BBQ places. If sides are good I will however bump up ratings. So if you want the latest Reggaeton hits to melt your eardrums before heading back to work, then check out Techno-Chicken. My husband and I came here to grab some lunch as we were in the area. We've always seen Mama's Chicken when driving up and down Little River Turnpike, so I've always been curious about it. It's located in the same plaza as Grand Mart. This place seems to be a favorite among the locals, and it was jam-packed! The cashier and the staff were all very friendly; we had the 1/2 Peruvian chicken, which came with 1 side (we chose french fries); the Chicken Lo Mein (it usually comes with a side of kimchi (yes! But, they ran out :( instead, the cashier told us that we can choose 2 sides - we chose the vegetable rice and the beans); and, one cheese pupusa (comes with a salad and hot sauce). One thing I noticed that is a HUGE plus is that all the tables had their own bottle of the aji sauce - YES, that's right! This place is extremely generous in that you can have as much aji sauce as your heart desires for your chicken :D It's a little tangy, but still creamy and complement the chicken well. The chicken itself was juicy and had a nice flavorful skin that also permeated throughout the meat. The fries themselves were okay as they were cold. The cheese pupusa was also okay, and the hot sauce wasn't much of a complement. The lo mein? I was actually surprised! It was flavorful, had chunks of the roasted chicken, veggies (carrots, onions, cabbage), and had a great soy sauce-focused flavor, and the lo mein noodles were cooked/stir-fried perfectly! The rice and the black beans were both really good and went well together. My husband also ordered an horchata, which was okay (more milky than the usual). Overall, it was a nice solid meal, and I would love to continue coming back here for their roasted chicken and their lo mein! I'd like to try out their kimchi (I'm assuming they get it from Grande Mart or they make it in house). If you're craving for some juicy Peruvian chicken and have a craving for Lo Mein noodles, check this place out! Not my favorite Peruvian chicken spot, but the sides are good. Seating and ordering is basic and the staff serves as order takers/cashiers only. Telenovelas are shown on the TV's as way-too-loud traditional music is played. The menu provides a variety of options for main courses and sides, such as tacos, fish, pupusas, plus some Asian dishes, as Mama's is owned by Koreans. The chicken is OK - tender, but could use more flavor. I drowned mine in the spicy green sauce, which is very good and very spicy. The yucca was perfectly cooked and the plantains (sweet-style only) were good. Pupusas were a nice mix of dough and cheese. I tried my friend's tamarind drink - sweet (though not too sweet), but not my taste. If you are in rush, definitely call ahead - Mama's runs out of chicken and there may be a wait. read more

I love discovering sleepers! Smack dab in the middle of Alexandria's Grand Mart plaza, the owners of Panaderia Latina (other spanish restaurant in same plaza) cashed in on this hidden gem. Mama's asian neighbor is the Tempt Asian Cafe on Little River Turnpike. I was really digging the chicken graphics outside of the place. Lets have a taste with what is inside! Their menu is pretty clear cut and I was surprised that they served pork or cheese papasu. A few items they offer is Pollo a la Brasa, and carne asada. At first walking in, I thought it was gonna be like a regular Guapo's type joint. I went ahead and ordered. I took the safe route. I remembered that everybody at work was raving about the chicken sandwich and after The Taco Place La Tapatia's (Woodbridge) misstep, I would rather be safe than sorry. I took a bite of the chicken sandwich and was quite impressed. It tastes as if they used the pollo a la brasa meat to fill my overstuffed sandwich. If not, they could have fooled me. They were not stingy on the meat. The sandwich came hot as the toasted bread housed tomato, tangy mayo and grilled onions. Bummer they could not replace my fries with yuca but Mama's fries were seasoned just right and better than generics. Good, quick meal for a mere 6 bucks? You got a deal, Mama! This is the first Latino Pollo place I've tried. Well, I'm confused as to whether this is a Latino or Korean joint? The signs outside have both Spanish and Korean on them. There is also a Korean lady who cooks there, but most of the patrons are Latino. I ordered the Chicken Soup, which comes in a big bowl with three large pieces of chicken, potatoes, corn, onion, zucchini and carrots. The soup is clear and basically pure chicken broth, but infused with the sweet natural flavors of the veggies. The soup had a drumstick, a thigh and another unknown chicken part in there. The meat was not over cooked and not falling apart, it was just right. The veggies were good and natural tasting. If you don't like your chicken with skin and bones, and if you don't like dark meat, then don't bother trying this place. Overall, I really liked their soup, and I would like to go back to try their Beef soup which looked delicious! My boyfriend ordered the chicken salad which was just sad - a few pieces of chicken on top of tomatoes and iceberg lettuce. I went for dinner about 5:30. I ordered the half chicken with collards and rice. The chicken was dried out... like it had been cooked earlier and just sat under a heading lamp for way too long. The collards were tasty, surprisingly so. The rice...meh. The restaurant was filled with people either waiting to send money, receive money, or just hanging out... as it shares it's facility with a Money Gram store. I probably wouldn't go back. read more

Tried the Chicken and Cheese, it was as great as everyone else said!!!

This place is my new favorite pollo spot. I know its got very few reviews and it's not very popular on yelp, but it is better than many of the pollo places that are. I always get the chicken & cheese here. It always takes a while before my order comes out, but it is always made fresh with cheese, mayo, tomato, and grilled onion. What really makes this one stand out from the others is the chicken though. I'm trying to articulate how to describe why the chicken is different on here, but I'm having a difficult time. Just know that it is the best and it is so worth trying. Also, they have whole chickens available for only $9 each. I also usually get an order of the plantains. They're the sweet type, and they're delicious. They have a pretty diverse selection of beverages too. I usually get Champage Cola. There is also always large variety of Jarrito's soda flavors available too. There is a beverage dispenser behind the counter with a brown liquid in it, it is labeled Tamarind. I'm not sure what that is and I haven't given it a try yet, but if you're looking for it, they've got it. And one of the most important things about this place is that the staff is always very friendly. A nearly equally important thing is that it's open until 10pm every night! This place is bangin! Kinda' tucked back into a sketchy looking shopping center, but this place is legit. They've got what look like two huge roasting ovens and they bust out some chicken! I ordered the Chicken w/ Cheese based on other reviews, but also noticed they had papusa, whole, quarter and half roasted chickens and even cow's foot soup. My sandwich was massive (forget about subway) and stuffed with freshly pulled, roasted chicken, sauteed onions, lettuce, tomato and a zesty mayo. It came with fries and two different dipping sauces. A whole heck of a lot of food for just over 6.00. Oh, and if you wanna get your lotto in while you're waiting for your chicken, you're in luck - because they've got a better lotto setup than 711. Typical peruvian chicken; good size servings. I usually get Mama's to go. Last night I ate in for the 1st and last time. Food is good. The joint is just dirty! Mama's rocks. Love the chicken and the plantains. The beans are good too. We've been going here for the past two years and this is one of the best Peruvian places around. Unfortunately, there''s a new girl who works there that tries to charge extra for the sauces..not sure where she came from, but I hope they fire her soon. This place is the WORST place to buy food.. I went there last week and I was served Chicken (Stinks Chicken) and Yuca from the night before ..I had to throw the chicken and yuca.. I ate only the rice.. Terrible experienced.. It seems that if you don't pay attention, they will served "sleep food" and the cashier wasn't pleasant. The flavor of the chicken is great and the sauces...better than all or most Peruvian spots, they're not watery like other places, they're flavorful. I must have looked like a silly person walking into this restaurant. I couldn't help but smile widely to myself when I heard the loud music blaring from speakers outside. The party might as well have started right there! My partner in crime met up with me and we ordered the half chicken with yuca (Dish #1) to share. We were thinking of chicken guisado but they were all out of guisado on a Friday night. Darn. This might have been for the best because we were full on the half chicken which had also come with a small salad. This place is sooooooooo loud and the little Asian lady behind the counter moves so fast that she made me dizzy.....she was literally flying all around....yelling orders. .....taking orders...handling cash.....packing orders.....LADY REALLY?!...you're doing the MOST!...smdh. When I first moved into the area tried this place and wasnt to thrilled about the chicken, I ordered the chicken which took them like 20 minutes to prepare and give to me, when I got home and tried the chicken, it was dry even the dark meat was dry. Came to realize while I was sittin there waiting on my food I noticed that the guy had taken the chicken out the fridge and must've put it in the oven to heat up... Most Peruvian chickens I've had usually when I ordered, they take the chicken, cut it up, put it in the tray and hands it to u in minutes hot and ready to go... I like the chicken they serve, its flavorful and nice. The white sauce and green sauce are really good as well. I hate the wait times every time I go there, its not like there are lot of people, they just don't have food ready, and I have to wait 10-15 minutes each time. These people DO NOT know the definition of customer service. If you want to charge for some stupid white sauce which we got from the tables to take home at least put up some kind of sign letting people know you are going to charge. Not all chicken places charge for white sauce how were we suppose to know. Most importantly how they address the issue, the manager was very unprofessional and took her anger out on us because she had just found out her stupid money gram machine was broke and she would have to buy a new one. Came here a few months back. I love chicken! A guy friend told me about the chicken tacos and how amazing they were. Chicken and tacos are my two favorite things. So this day it was raining HARD AS HELLLL! Hard like you walk outside and so much water is pouring from the sky you feel like you are drowning. I had on a mini skirt and a spaghetti strap cami. I ran in here to get food. I disregarded the 10 Spanish men standing outside huddle in front of the door. By the time i pushed my way in i was DRENCHED! MY CLOTHES, HAIR, AND FACE WERE GONNERS. i looked up there were at least 20 men staring back at me. The yelling and sexual slurs began. I felt like beyonce walking through Walmart. I jetted to the bathroom to get dry and wring my hair out where they crowded in front of the door. I got scared for a minute. I composed myself to walk out to order and there was not 1 woman around... not a cashier or a cook which made my wait worse as the guys are still yelling and huddling around me. So, I have been to Mama Chicken a couple of times. Since I am a vegetarian, I always get the fried fish (or the pescado platter). I like this place because it is small and quick. I really do like the fish here, which they do cook up fresh if requested. The chicken I guess is good because everytime I go, thats what most of the people normally order. read more
