I visit Waco a few times a year and visit my fam. We are huge foodies so we love to explore places around town. They took me to Mamaka and it was definitely a good spot for a snack! I have the Mamaka Bowl. I think it was açaí with blueberry and honey and bananas and granola. The service was fast and the presentation was perfect. It was kind of a warm day so it hits the spot. There seating inside and out of the store. The windows are huge and some of the walls are open. It's a nice vibe for a perfect refreshing treat. I'm definitely coming back! Worth it! read more

I don't know what went wrong, but I have heard great things about this place so I decided to try it out. I asked the girl at the front what she recommends for a refreshing and fruity smoothie. She recommended the Mac and i decided to try it because it sounded good. The flavor of my smoothie was highly disappointing. It tastes like a smoothie I could make at home with cheap store bought frozen smoothie blends. It was also supposed to have mango and I could barely taste it. I would be willing to give this place another shot but the Mac is not very good. read more

Oh My Gosh! These smoothie bowls are the most delicious! Today we got the Christmas smoothie bowl and it was extra delicious. The servers are very friendly here. All the employees are so kind and helpful and we never have too long of a wait. They have a great app that you can order ahead. The atmosphere is fun because they have some outdoor swings to sit on in a big outdoor patio and the indoors is all open. It's really a fun place to go have a treat. It's a great tasting treat! read more

Stopped by here for a refreshing afternoon treat at the recommendation of a friend who is a Waco local. This is a cute place with ample seating and it appeared to be a favorite among locals as everyone was stopping by when they got out of school and everything. Having never been to a smoothie bowl please before, I asked for an explanation of the menu and London was super sweet and very helpful and took time to explain everything and to point out her favorites on the menu. I ended up getting the Maui Sunrise bowl and my husband got the Maui Sunrise smoothie. It was a refreshing, tart combination of fruit that wasn't overly sweet and was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. The bowl was great because the sweetened of the granola and the fresh fruit perfectly balanced the tartness of the smoothie. We will try to stop by next time we are in town. read more

Mamaka Bowls has always been a classic go-to spot for me and my classmates! The açaí is flavorful, the granola is made in-house and is fresh and crunchy, and the combinations of bowls they created are skillfully crafted. It has an aesthetic beachy vibe which makes it such a great place to sit outside and catch up with a friend instead of getting coffee. I ordered the Ohana (in the middle of the photo) and was more than satisfied with the tasty fruity fashion (my favorite). The staff is kind, you can tweak the order to get what you want, and they are fast and efficient! My only problem is that it is very expensive when getting a regular-sized bowl (~$11) so it makes it hard to justify going often, but when I do it is worth it. read more

I just sat at this place for 44 minutes waiting on an order that was placed online with a specified pick up time. I had another commitment and could not wait any longer. I asked for a refund and was told to write my information down and to "give my phone number if there were any issues." What issues? For the items I paid for and you failed to give me. Several other people were complaining about the excessive wait times. Go somewhere else. I've had this spot before and it isn't worth that kind of wait if they can't have efficient systems. Waste of time, waste of money. read more

I must first say. I'm in the business. So watching the staff prepare the bowls and smoothies absolutely lost me, they all were filthy, their aprons, how they cut the fruit. They are all wearing gloves but touching every dirty surface, possible. No glove changing, wiping their hand on their aprons. Just not sanitary. I had to leave the counter area because I was really disgusted by the what I was seeing. I waited outside for my bowl. The bowl flavor wasn't bad. However I won't return, just based on the way they prepare the food. read more

This was one of my favorite spots for a healthy treat during college -- and I'm so glad to see it's still doing well! The location is great! There's plenty of free parking nearby, and lots of patio space to spread out and chow down. If the weather is nice, you can take your bowl or smoothie across the street and enjoy it right by the Brazos River. I've had several delicious items from their menu, but during my last visit, I had to indulge in their Pumpkin Bowl. This was a fun fall treat -- topped with cacao, coconut, banana, and cinnamon. My only critique is that the smoothie itself could have been even more pumpkin-y! It was a nice subtle flavor - but I would have loved a more intense taste. If I ordered this bowl again, I would've also added some peanut butter on top, for a little extra crunch. You can't go wrong with any other item on their menu - my favorites from my college days were "The Babe" and "The Mac." Whether you live in Waco, or you're in town visiting, definitely don't miss out on Mamaka! read more

Surfer vibes, aesthetically pleasing views, super friendly service, trendy merch and good acai bowls found here! I've been visiting a handful of times for their bowls. I enjoy the 'Mamaka' with no bananas. The atmosphere will be very loud at busier times, so feel free to eat in the car or take a stroll if that's a concern. Their granola is a bit saltier than I'd like, but the sweetness of the bowl helps. I can't find any nutritional info or statements on their website, so i'm not if the sweetness is from natural sugars, or refined / artificial sugars. Their fruit toppings are always delicious and picked with quality. Never seen a moldy fruit. They have restrooms for customers and a couple neat swings too. I recommend a visit! read more

Tried this place out for a healthy late breakfast on the way to Dallas and it was a great stop. Only I planned on getting anything, but after everyone saw what the place had to offer 4 of us ended up eating here. The place was nicely decorated with open space and indoor / outdoor seating. The staff here was kind and very helpful in deciding. I went with the Expresso Yourself bowl in a regular size. Although it didn't fill as much as a meal would it did hit the sweet spot that I had craving. For a regular size at $10 the price was pretty unbeatable as well and the consistency was great. What really topped off the experience was that even when I went up after to ask for some protein, which I didn't originally, one of the workers by the name Sloan added some in for free. Not necessarily a huge deal, but customer service is super important and I felt that the people here were great! read more

Mamaka Bowls is so cute! From the outdoor patio with rustic swings to the aesthetic blue photo walls and garage-like place. It's usually pretty busy so service is quite slow, but this place is women owned and operated which is awesome. They offer two size bowls and I think the smaller one is a perfect serving size for one person, while the larger one could feed two people. Their smoothie consistency is so creamy and the fruit is freshly piled on top in a pretty design. The homemade granola is the best part about the bowl. It's to die for and truly completes the flavor experience. My go to bowl is the Mamaka bowl- açaí, strawberry, banana, mango, blueberry, almond milk or orange juice (if you desire a breakfast or a lunch açaí bowl) and it's topped with sliced strawberries and bananas, blueberries, and of course their delicious granola. read more

First off, how cute is this place. Gives off a very surf turf vibe and for being in the middle of Texas it's just what they needed. Located right by Baylor university in the heart of Waco, we decided to stop here on our way to Austin. Can't say enough great things about Mamaka Bowls. The service, ambiance, bowls were all amazing. The girls working there were so delightful and cheerful, which truly added to our experience. The bowls itself were very refreshing for a hot day and kept me pretty full for quite some time. I have been waiting for this place to open in Waco for many months, and I finally got the chance to visit this weekend. Let me say - it did not disappoint at all! I ordered the Mamaka bowl, and it was truly one of the sweetest, most flavorful açaí bowls that I've ever had! They were generous with the toppings, and the granola tasted great. Nothing beats healthy, fresh food that tastes like dessert! I seriously want to drive back to Waco from Dallas just to get another bowl right now. In addition to the bowls tasting incredible, the entire environment is so friendly and fun! The bowls came out fast, but we were in no rush to leave with the indoor/outdoor seating and upbeat vibe. Luna Clean Food Café

Under new ownership. Use to be Luna Juice Bar…read more I came into this café not knowing what to expect. Honestly, I braced myself for subpar, overpriced "health food." What I found instead was something completely different, a thoughtfully crafted menu built with a love not only for fresh, local ingredients but also for the kind of creative flavor combinations that make you want to savor every bite. I ordered the tacos, and they were outstanding, super filling, bright, and fresh. The green salsa deserves special mention: full of flavor, balanced, and not too spicy, the kind of condiment you want on everything. On the side, I had a pour-over coffee served at the perfect temperature, smooth and complex enough that it didn't need sugar or cream. It arrived on a beautiful serving dish alongside a crumbly, moist slice of coffee cake that felt just right with the atmosphere. Speaking of the atmosphere: it's warm, cozy, and intentional. Soft folk music plays gently in the background while tons of natural light pour in from large windows. Each table has fresh-cut flowers, the space is impeccably clean, and natural materials give it a grounded, organic feel. The dining area is small and intimate, wonderful for now, but I could see them needing to expand if word gets out. It's a family friendly space too. Moms, dads, kids, and even toddlers have activities to keep them engaged, while students and professionals can easily enjoy the natural light, clean eating, and good vibes for studying or unwinding. The AC was set to a perfect temperature (the fan was off, but honestly, the airflow felt ideal) making it equally enjoyable for a warm meal or something refreshing and cool. Service was quick, warm, and friendly the kind that makes you feel like the staff actually care about the food and about you as a guest. The fact that they source ingredients locally and support community suppliers just reinforces how counter cultural this café feels: not fast food, not processed, not industrial. Instead, it's a dream of what dining could be slow, thoughtful, and nourishing. If I could sum it up in a few words: warm, cozy, family oriented, community-based. This place is everything one could hope for. I could happily eat here several times a week. Drink: I ordered a large peach and mango fruit tea (no ice,…read more25% sweetness). The flavor itself could've been great, but the sweetness level was shockingly high, more like 100%. If it was made incorrectly, that's fine, but just offer to remake it. It's a $7 drink; the cost to fix it is minimal, and customers remember when you take the time to make something right. Because I requested no ice, the drink also wasn't filled to the top, which felt dismissive considering it was a full-priced order. Unfortunately I cannot drink super cold drinks or food. Seems silly to let a customer walk away with 2 oz shy of a full drink because you usually put ice Service: The staff member was polite when I walked in and even suggested one of their specialty drinks, which I appreciated. However, after I explained that I wanted a simple peach and mango tea and didn't want the specialty item that included strawberry and jellies, she continued to try to steer me toward her suggestion -- saying, "I think you'll like this better." I value recommendations, but once a customer has clearly declined, it's important to respect their preference. After receiving the drink, I realized how overly sweet it was and politely asked if it was truly 25%. I was told it might be because the boba had honey, but having visited hundreds of boba tea places, that alone wouldn't cause such a strong sweetness. I mentioned that I'm pregnant and watching my sugar intake, an opportunity to show care, yet there was no offer to adjust or remake it. When I politely set the drink down and left, there was no follow-up or acknowledgment. I didn't ask for a refund; I simply walked away. If keeping that one cup meant more than keeping a customer, that says something about priorities. Ambiance: Poppa Bear has a cozy café setup with Wi-Fi and a warm, casual vibe. When I visited, a few college students were working quietly on laptops. It's the kind of space that could easily become a community favorite. However, the experience felt like the team was more focused on avoiding loss than creating loyalty. In business, especially hospitality, a small margin for remakes or mistakes is simply part of good operations and it pays back tenfold in customer trust. Overall: Poppa Bear has real potential. The drinks and environment are inviting, but consistent service and responsiveness will determine its long-term success. A little attentiveness and flexibility go a long way in building loyal customers.

The boba itself was perfectly chewy and just sweet enough to complement the drink, not overpower it. I also really appreciated that, even with no ice, they filled my cup completely to the top. Simple, thoughtful detail and it makes all the difference. Service: The staff here was genuinely kind and patient. I asked a few questions about sweetness levels and tea bases (I'm mindful about sugar intake), and they answered every one with care, no judgment, no pressure, no upselling. They made the drink exactly how I ordered it and didn't try to push other menu options on me. That respect and attentiveness go such a long way. Ambiance: Cha Community has such a warm, creative vibe, red brick walls, cozy coffeehouse energy, indie music, local art, and stickers that make the space feel personal and loved. The whole café smelled amazing, and you can tell they've put heart into the details. It's the kind of place that feels like a little pocket of calm and connection in the middle of the day. Overall: Highly recommend stopping here if you're in Waco. The experience was night and day, proof that quality, care, and consistency matter more than anything else. Refer to my Poppa Bear review if you want the comparison, but honestly, just come to Cha Community first.
