Red velvet cake
Michelle S.

Okay, I haven't been here in probably 25 years (dang I'm getting old!). The inside is pretty much exactly as I remember - it's clean and dimly light). The service was outstanding. We had a great waiter, he was actually a lot of fun and he took great care of us. He never rushed us and he kept our beverages full. The chicken tortilla soup was surprisingly delightful (I had that per the waiter's recommendation). Pizza was delicious - a good old fashioned pizza with plenty of ingredients, a perfect crust (not too thick, not too thin, and nice flavor). The lasagna was very good (my homemade lasagna is better - but for an Italian restaurant, it was good and I would get it again). They also had a ton of desserts! The list of cakes and pies was long. We ended up with a red velvet cake and a Boston cream cake (yes, cakes not pie). I will not be waiting another 25 years before I'm back! (The only photo I took was of one dessert). Next time I snag more photos!

My family has been coming here for over 50 years! We love this family owned restaurant. We did many carry outs during the pandemic and we finally dined inside the restaurant again tonight. Mike, one of the owners, was so pleased to see us again. It's so nice to go somewhere and be recognized/remembered. Always amazing service. Abby took care of our table tonight and was so friendly and attentive. We love their cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza. The pepperoni is the fabulous old world pepperoni that curls up at the ends. You get a choice of fresh or canned mushrooms on your pizza. The manicotti is perfection. So cheesy and delicious. My mom enjoyed the cannelloni. Family owned recipes and you can taste the quality of ingredients. The salads are very fresh and their homemade Ranch dressing is my favorite. You also get delicious warm bread and butter delivered to your table. We enjoyed glasses of Merlot with our meal. Excellent! We ended with cannolis and pistachio cake. Sooooooo good!! This is a place you can sit, relax, and enjoy your meal and not feel rushed. The atmosphere is very inviting. Everything is always amazing here. I can't wait to eat here again!

Beef Baked Short Ribs Special

The food and service were great, the vibe is basic neighborhood restaurant with booths and tables; they could use some candlelight. Fair prices, good portions, and perfectly cooked pasta with homemade meat sauce. Excellent pours on second drinks. Winning! We went with a group of 6 on a Saturday night, and while they were busy, we were seated right away and our waitress came and spoke to us almost immediately. Drinks came out fast, and overall, the service was excellent. She was friendly and working hard; I'd look forward to having her serve us again. As for food, the minestrone soup is SO good, I highly recommend. Savory, homemade and hot. Decent salads with homemade dressings. We also ordered the buffalo wing special which was good, but not great. Frozen wing dings tossed in a yummy homemade buffalo sauce; but they do have the good ranch and were fried perfectly. I really wish this special was done with whole wings, because I'd definitely return sooner. Everyone was happy with their meals, my Mom loved her chicken picatta, which is always her favorite, and the beef short rib special was very tender and had this great tomato-ey, slow cooked sauce. Delicious. We also ordered pizza, and I'd for sure come back just for that. It's perfect traditional round pizza with crispy, chewy crust and good quality toppings. Yum! They also seem to have quite a decent carryout going, which is always a good sign of good food. We will definitely return regularly - glad it's close by!

Caesar Salad (side).

I ordered Vegetarian Lasagna with a side of Caesar salad, and it came with complimentary bread. First off let me say the salad was good, they put loads of shredded Parmesan in my salad, which I loved. And the bread was marvelous. However, I was super disappointed to find the Vegetarian Lasagna to be much too salty for me, especially the sauce. If I tried to eat it with the bread, then the bread helped me bare with the saltiness a little bit. I expected the lasagna to have a better balance of flavors. But again, I did really like the bread and the salad.

Upon returning, I want to sit in his section, please! The hostess greeter and staff all were very nice. The menu choices are abundant here but I had to go for a boil watching the steaming stacks of inflated bags going to other tables. The boil options are vast and range from $16 to $121 depending on what floats your boat. I decided on the Shrimp 1/2 pound boil with garlic butter sauce, mild spice, corn-on-the cob and (2) potatoes. In opening the bag and releasing the steam, was the beginning of a true dining experience. This is why you need the apron and plastic gloves they provide.

I decided to try the signature Black Label Burger and the house made potato chips. I was disappointed in both. I should have went with the Sunday Brunch with several offerings and made-to-order omelettes. Sunday Brunch is until 2pm which is also an available on holidays. Although I was the only one waiting at the unstaffed hostess station, it took some time for my acknowledgment by a staff member to offer me seating in a booth. Seating options are traditional tables, booths, bar and patio. The service was okay once I was seated. Feliberto was a good server and kept my unsweetened tea refills coming. We waited about 10 minutes without being greeted or seated, even though several servers noticed us. Eventually, someone seated us, but it was a disappointing first impression. We ordered the rosemary truffle fries, onion rings, and a wood-fired hand-tossed pizza, customized with our choice of toppings. They don't modify any of their alcoholic drinks to make virgin versions. The food took a while to arrive, but everything came out together. The onion rings were crispy and enjoyable, and the pizza was good. The rosemary truffle fries, however, were just okay and lacked the flavor we expected. As the evening went on, the restaurant slowly filled up, with the bar area becoming completely packed. Overall, it's a nice, cool spot with decent food, but the service could definitely use improvement. The experience was okay, but it left us wanting a bit more.

That was no problem, but I specifically remember reading another review where someone stated they made a carry out order for pickup, so I thought maybe their policy changed. When I get there, I notice that there were people walking in and simply picking up there food. This leads me to believe they were picking up their carry out orders but maybe they ordered inside, went back to their car and then came to pick it up. I highly doubt this was the case but I was already there so I went ahead and ordered. Now the service when I got there was very good. The person taking orders seemed very nice and I'm not even sure this was the same person I spoke with over the phone. I ordered the lobster grilled cheese sandwhich that comes with fries. It's about $30 and as pricey as that is, I wanted to give it a shot. I do think the sandwich was good and the fries were tasty as well. I don't know if it's all worth $30 but at least it was tasty. They do have many other items on their menu and from my understanding it's all very tasty so I would say check them out. Aside from the carry out confusing the food itself is good just be weary of the price.

A formidable barrier of plexi separates gen pop from the employees. And those employees, they're actually cooking. Technically, the layout is fast food, but they're doing more than most short order cooks around this country. I got me one of them coney dogs and also a fish cod sammich.... Ok, here's the thing Detroit, the coney dog is not special. A dog with chili, mustard and onions is delicious, ok ok, it is delicious, but is it particularly Detroit? In actual fact, that is a standard dog for many regions. The fish cod sando smacked. That batter or dredge they put on it was crisped up right and had a numberless amount of nooks and crannies. The fish itself was moist and perfectly flaked. Also the service was nice. The girl at the register was like royalty in the way of her manners and comportment. And they are slammed busy.

Not always the cleanest place but always good food, with big good shrimp. Now you have new owners, some Caldean or Arabs have taken over. Sorry not meaning to offend, but I don't know the difference. Its been maybe a year. So any reviews before this don't apply. So first the food. I come mostly for the shrimp. At first it sucked. The shrimp were all stuck together, at one point they were butterfly shrimp, again all stuck together, don't get it. I stopped coming for a few months. Came back the middle of Oct, ordered half a pound of shrimp and 5 wings about 2 in the afternoon. They said 15 min. I arrive in 15 minutes. My shrimp was done but the guy says another 5 minutes for the chicken. I told him never mind it you haven't dropped the chicken, I don't want to wait. He got an attitude, now I though the chicken hadn't been dropped and didn't want to wait. It had been dropped and I was willing to wait but DID NOT LIKE HIS ATTITUDE AND WAS QUICK TO TELL HIM, DON'T GET AN ATTITUDE WITH ME. Still there was no other orders so why was my chicken not done with my shrimp. They changed from a cardboard box, to Styrofoam. Everybody knows that the box keeps the shrimp Christy and the Styrofoam makes the shrimp sweat and get soft ans sweaty. So I had to wait on the chicken while my shrimp got sweaty. Ok we have coved the food and the service. The ambiance is starting to look better. They have put in new refer units and some monitors which are not on yet but I guess are coming soon. So back to the food. So next week the fresh fish house up the street a little had on Wednesday one pound of jumbo shrimp for 16.99. The shrimp are small and one pound of their jumbo shrimp does not even compare to a half pound of really jumbo shrimp from redford fish, look at the photo from redford I included. So all and all the shrimp has come back to not being stuck together and is still quite good. Basically they are coming along, I gave a 3 star because the guy behind the register has no social skills. And no matter what happens you need to remember that here in America the customer is always right. Not to mention that here in Detroit, if you give attitude you'll get attitude and loose the customer. I still will go there so long as they keep the shrimp the way it is. But if you can't deal with the public, you will loose customers. And bring back to cardboard boxes to keep the shrimp Christy and save the landfills of tha Styrofoam that hangs around for years. Now look at the half pound of jumbo shrimp and when you go to fresh fish house you'll see its better and bigger here.

Ok my review was just added but the photo didn't come up. Ill try again, so anyway the food is good…read morethe service sucks. Please red my other review a few minute ago.
