I went out on the limb and ordered non seafood from a seafood restaurant and actually I liked it!!! I had the turkey chops with 2 sides. The turkey was very tender and flavorful, as for the sides I'd say you could've applied a little more love on the stove cooking these greens! They are still tough and lack soooo much of flavor. The potato was decent it's nothing to order again, just a smashed up spud with a lot of butter. I would try some different sides but for sure the turkey is a hit!!! read more

Once you enter you notice the smallness of the place with booths lining the right side and a cooking area secure by plexiglass on the left of a narrow walkway. I usually carry out but have also eaten in. You are immediately greeted by a smiling face and friendly voice that is eager to take your order. The menu choices are CRAZY GOOD from barbecue ribs and chicken (the real kind), to charbroiled lamb chops and steak, to crab legs and shrimp! There are many southern favorites for those who are craving some good soul food. All served with their special recipe garlic potatoes on the side. Not to mention my absolute favorite - the Alfredo potato. This bit of heaven can be topped with seafood, chicken or steak (or any combo of these including all 3) to create the most amazing goodness. Oh No! I really hope the Crab House was just having a bad day when I ordered on Sunday. I called in and ordered a shrimp and chicken potato alfredo and a kool aid; a pretty standard order. When I go there to pick it up, it was ready, I paid and I left, eagerly awaiting my tasty treat. I get my meal home and take my first bite...and it tastes burnt. Maybe it was just one bad bite...I tried another...burnt. I scrutinize every component of the dish to try and determine what the burnt flavor is coming from and I think it was the shrimp, but nonetheless, it tasted burnt and I couldn't finish it. I was pretty unhappy because I really had a taste for this meal and it cost me over 15 dollars. For that much money spent on a carryout, I want it to be of the same high standard I have come to expect from the Crab House. Diamond in the rough. This place was a pleasant surprise so please check it out for yourself. When you enter it looks like a standard Mom & Pop where you get takeout or can sit in limited booth style seating. A nice woman greeted us and asked if we were dining in. When we said yes she told us to go through the doorway and sit anywhere we'd like. The other side of the restaurant was very nice. Spacious, mirrors, large tables and a tv. We sad down and looked over the extensive menu. The young lady was nice and explained the best values for the food we wanted. The food was delicious. I had grilled tilapia, shrimp, baked potato and corn on the cob. The potato could have been cooked a bit longer but it was seasoned to perfection so I ate every bit of it. Regular readers of my reviews have probably identified a bit of a theme around divey, neighborhood spots that really allow a peek into the soul of a city. Crab House on 7 Mile is one such place. Crab house employs a "Southern Style boil" or pot cooking where seafood delicacies are seasoned and boiled together. While this is their signature, fried seafood catch is also available. Many combination options are available to help you make just the right pairing. On this visit we enjoyed Crab Legs and Salmon, Crab Legs and Ribs, and 1/4 lb of shrimp, served with their signature sides - cajun spiced potato and corn on the cob, along with a surprise boiled egg (which is very tasty by the way). I took the food to go, warmed in the oven for just a couple minutes, and we were all set. Restaurant was clean and efficient. The servers were very friendly. I noticed that as parties left the dining area, they were all thanked for their patronage, and expressions of appreciation such as "I hope everything was to your liking" were plentiful. I have seen some reviews reference the location. It is in Detroit. This strip of 7 Mile looks like what most of Detroit looks like. Get over it, make it better, and stop being afraid to patronize local businesses. There is much to see in Detroit, if you just look around. :-) read more

The adventure started outside when we decided to circle the block because there were 2 pit bulls running loose with no owner in sight. It had nothing to do with the restaurant but be alert. As I entered the establishment someone behind the bulletproof glass shouted, "Eating here or carry out?" Since my sister and I were dining in we were instructed towards the glass door straight down and and told to turn right. This is where the dining area is and it wasn't bad. There was one other patron eating and they have a TV on the wall. Our waitress was nice and quite courteous. She explained the menu and the process they use to smoke the chicken and ribs and went on to explain the soft drink choices, including the Kool-Aid selection. Nice!!!! My sister couldn't resist. I wanted some seafood but after listening to the waitress I had to try the Ribs and Chicken combo. My sister decided to get the same. I upgraded to a side of greens and she upgraded to both the greens and macaroni and cheese which was a dollar extra for each item. Our meal arrived rather quickly. It was room temperature at best which was a bit scary and quite disappointing since we were eating pork. Although both the ribs and chicken had a good flavor I was still bothered that it wasn't hot. (I know you are thinking I should've sent it back but I'm leery about doing that). The greens were bland but my sister's Mac and cheese tasted good. As I was finishing my meal I lifted up my bowl of greens from my plate and underneath the bowl on my plate was a long, black, wet hair. I immediately stopped chewing but my sister might have been more disgusted. She stopped eating too. I informed the waitress and she took my plate immediately. She brought my bill and informed me I received a discount. It was a measly $2.50. Our meals were $16.99 each before the upgrades. So yes this place is quite expensive for what you receive They had a chance to rectify my issue but they blew it. They obviously didn't care. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

This place received an extra star because the manager, she was the one who took my order and she was super nice and she kept the line moving. FOOD I ordered the half pound of grilled shrimp dinner. I got 8 shrimp total. The shrimp was ALMOST done, not totally. My main issue with the food was they smothered all the food in the same seasoning it taste like some kind of creole seasoning but they call it garlic. They put it on the bake potatoes, the egg, the shrimp, and the corn. I hated this "garlic" seasoning it was spicy and funny tasting. I don't think I will be going here again. Restaurant The outside looks much better than the inside. The interior is one semi long shack , with booths on one side and a long bulletproof glass counter on the other side with a thin strip to walk between the two. The glass needs cleaning ASAP. Credit card/debt card If you use plastic you got to show your I'd Extra prices This is one of those places were they charge you extra for everything. If there is one thing you have to try it is this leg, yes the crab is phenomenal but oh my Allah that smoked, succulent fall off the bone turkey leg has me salivating right now. I ordered the pasta with homemade alfredo, mm mmmm mmmmm. It came with a mountain of sauteed onions, bell peppers and mushrooms not to mention the CRAB, SHRIMP, grilled Chicken and Scallops. My sister introduced me to this place on one of my visits to Detroit and I've made it my mission to stop by there every time I visit. There's nothing on the menu we've had that we're didn't like. The potatoes are huge and stuffed with whatever you fancy; chicken, seafood, or both! You will have enough left over for another meal which is great because it tastes even better the next day! The lamb chops are melt in your mouth, tender, buttery deliciousness. Lawd! I wish I was there right now. I wanted to take some home with me and they obliged. They packed my food up for travel and it was still just as good and fresh when I got home as it would have been at the restaurant. We ordered the snow crab legs, shrimp, and turkey necks with sides of potato and collard greens. Everything was absolutely delicious. I live in Texas and their snow crab legs tasted as if they got them fresh from the waters of Corpus Christi. They were cooked to perfection. For those who do not wish to partake in red meat try their turkey necks. I never thought to have them as an entree; usually just use them to season while cooking greens. We received a generous portion of the turkey necks. They were very tender. We received plenty of the grilled shrimp. The cooks there certainly know what they're doing. I gave this restaurant 4 out of 5 stars because I have yet to experience the sit down dining experience inside. I hope to do that the next time I visit Detroit. They also have a restaurant in Warren and I heard it is very nice inside along with their same delicious food. read more
