    Chicken time
    Jason P.

I recently returned to El Sabroso for the second time in the last month for takeout so we could sample more of the Peruvian menu. We ordered a Numero Ocho Family Meal, which came with (1) a whole chicken, split in half, (2) a large container of French fries, (3) a large container of Chaufa de pollo (Peruvian Chinese-style fried rice with chicken), (4) garden salad and onion salad (which may have been an extra), and (5) aji and other sauces. It cost $30 and we had substantial leftovers despite three adults sharing the meal. It was a good value. I've previously reviewed the chicken and fries. The chicken was still very good, but not quite as good as the first time. Maybe because it was later in the day this time, the chicken may have been roasted longer and didn't seem quite as juicy as my first experience. The Chaufa de pollo was tasty. It had gobs of good quality chicken. The rice also contained onions, peppers and eggs. The dish was flavorful and was much better than the Chaufa of another Peruvian place I recently tried. In addition, we ordered the Papa Rellena. Papa Rellena is fried mashed potatoes with a meat and olive, etc. filling. The filling was super flavorful. El Sabroso's Papa Rellena was much better than an area competitor's I had this year. I hope others in the area discover this downtown East Hartford gem.

I took out dinner from here. The place has good number of seats, but very few people dining in. I went for a chaufa de carne, aquadito soup and papa rellena. Everything was bigger than I thought. It was a lot of food for 2 people . And it had good flavors. The guy who took order didn't know much English.

Ordered delivery for the first time. On time got the order right. It may be the best Peruvian food I've ever had.

When I went to pick it up, the restaurant was well decorated and clean and the servers were really friendly. Asked me if we needed plates and plasticware but none was needed but still appreciated. I asked for menus or business cards that I could bring with me but unfortunately there weren't any but that's completely fine since we're now in the digital age. Everyone in the office loved the rice! It was one of the first items to go! I saw many people using the salsa verde that came with the rice. Many people did come to me after asking for information of the restaurant and I either messaged them or emailed them after with the link to their menu. Definitely will be going back and I know some of my coworkers already went themselves. Go try their food! Wish I had a picture to share.

They didn't open, so the girlfriend and I needed to pull an audible. Went to the highest rated location near us, and found this place. First thing, this place is a night club. It's layout, the decor, the wait staff, the music playing, the metal detector in the front, and the dj stand. Everything about this place screams modern night club trying to get through covid. Thing is, this is a place that's making lemonade out of lemons. The staff are extremely friendly, the food service took a while but they kept the bread stocked. The breads this dense but soft inside. Kind of like a soft pretzel without the salt. When the food does come, it's awesome! Everything brought the flavor, nothing was under seasoned and the portions were large. Tacos were stacked with perfectly braised beef with ample toppings which all had a distinct and pronounced flavor. The chiveche was piled high with a limey, salty, savory bite. The fish was fresh, and the fried octopus was perfectly crisp and tender. The crepe was well executed, but it was kind of general. Bananas and Nutella, not much to say. I would've liked the bananas warmer, maybe a little burlee of sugar on the top of each to give it a sweet crisp? It was tasty, I just wanted a little more. Price was a little high, but the food coming out from the kitchen along with the portion makes it worth it. It does take a while, so be prepared for a wait. But now I can say that I had brunch at the night club, and that's a pretty awesome memory. That and the food is good, so if you want a funky place for great peruvian food, go hunt this place down!

Surprised to find that they had icy rolls in their menu.

I enjoyed the dish, and the takeout experience was pleasant but I did take a star off because there were no utensils in my bag even though I made that request when I called. I was picking up from an outdoor event and had to go back to grab some which was a bit annoying. I thought the taste of the dish was great. The steak was tender and I like my sauce on the sweeter side so I was happy. The rice wasn't nauseatingly fluffy which I was wearing of because I've been having that issue with a lot of places recently. I'd order takeout again but would just be mindful to check for everything before leaving.

We ordered a bunch of food and it didn't take too long to come out, we had multiple rounds of drinks and the pacing on refills was also good. The main problem was the food. Most of the food was ok. I ordered lomo saltado a lo pobre and my husband ordered chupe de camarones. My dish was pretty good. The steak and eggs were over cooked unfortunately but again the meal was fine. My husband's chupe however was really not good. The shrimp was very overcooked, the broth was bland and oily and thin. He ate his egg and left the rest alone. All the dishes were pretty expensive so we asked to have our soup comped but we were told we could not because the waitress asked twice is everything was OK and my husband didn't say anything til the end (although I feel that if someone isn't touching their food it's usually a sign). Feels like a strange rule but i did honestly deduct 1 star because of this. The menu is large and expensive, so it does feel like a gamble if something is that bad but we still cant get 1 in 7 entrees comped. We are a peruvian family (6 adults) and we all felt similarly.
