Some of the best Peruvian food I have tried. My party of 5 had a late lunch here after attending an event in the area. We had a variety of dishes- started off with causa and anticuchos to start followed by chaufa piolin, tacu tacu mariscos, lomo saltado, ceviche piolin (pescado, mariscos, and calamari), and pollo a la brasa 1/2. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. I'm already planning my next visit here. The only thing is, you better make sure you have time because the service is pretty slow! read more

I love Peruvian food so much, that it became a comfort food for me now. But food from here was a big disappointment. I went for chaufa de carne and lomo saltado. The biggest issue was that the beef was spoiled. I couldn't understand how they can sell that. Flavor was off as well. I also got tiny pieces of shell pieces in egg. I took a couple of bites from both dishes and dumped the rest. This is the most disapointing meal in my life. read more

Desilusionada read more

Another great Piolyn experience. By the way...they have moved from 360 across the street a little. Closer to 399. I had the seafood chaufa and my friend had a fish dish. Generous serving and thoughtful presentation. At least over 40 items to choose from. Live bands on Saturday nights. Full bar. read more

Worst service that any restaurant could have! They forgot one of the meals in a $70+ tab, and I didn't realize when I picked up the order. When I called back they said they had to check their surveillance cameras. read more

I've been all around the tri-state looking for decent authentic Peruvian food. As a Peruvian myself I've been on the search. This place is on my top three. Tasty delicious food. The flavors were honestly overwhelming at one point. La Ronda Marina was absolutely amazing! I recommend it 100%. I wish the place wasn't so far from where I live because I'd go frequently!! I will be coming back. Great prices and great portions!! I'm a happy camper :) read more

Piolin Restaurant - Lomo Saltado , arroz con pollo, seco de carne con frijoles. - Peruvian Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

Came in Saturday night November 12 around 6:45/7 before a show. I've been getting take out here for years but decided to actually come in and I soon regretted it. They ran out of chicha morada. We ordered lomo saltado I asked for it to come extra jugoso. My partner asked for bistec a lo pobre and asked for it medium rare. The guy assured us the food would come that way. Red flag #1: he didn't write anything down & I had a feeling he would just put in the food orders & forget to put in the details. We ordered 2 mojitos and it took a while for them to come- he didn't even bring them, the bartender did. The mojitos were actually good. Our food came and I was right about him not writing down any details. My lomo saltado was dry, my partners steak was well done and very dry. His platano was not even ripe or ready to be cooked we could tell it was still green. It was hard and didn't taste good. We tried on multiple occasions to get his attention to fix this - he gave us a "one moment" gesture With his finger - but never ever once came to check on us when we waved him down. The older woman was near us and we tried waving her down - she actually walked faster away from us to act like she couldn't hear us. It wa getting late and we had a show to catch so we had no choice but to eat this food..... we watched as our male server seemed overwhelmed and confused pacing between the delivery orders and then randomly cleaning tables then back to other customers. He seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. They seem to focus more on their take out than the ppl actually dining in. He finally came to take our plates - my partner said the platano was horrible - the guy cut him off and said "listo yo le digo al chef" and didn't let my bf finish - we were going to talk about the entire poor experience but the server seemed like he just wanted to get out of there. He could've offered another platano or at the very least an apology. He needs more training. Will not be back. read more

A group of coworkers and I ordered takeout from this place on a long night at the hospital. They said they would gladly deliver, and within the hour, there was piping hot Peruvian food at our entrance. I don't have a lot of experience with Peruvian food, but what I can say is that everything I tried that night was fantastic. Lomo saltado was so flavorful, had a good balance of beef to french fries to veggies, and the portion sizes were huge. The arroz con mariscos surprised me with how tasty and addicting it was. I kept going back for more and more and encouraging my coworkers to try it. Even the sides of rice that came with our lomo saltado tasted unexpectedly awesome. I didn't try the anticuchos (I'm not a fan of organ meat), but my coworkers loved it. We ordered extra aji sauce and poured that liquid magic over everything to make it even better. My only complaint was that the beef in the lomo saltado was overcooked and was hard to chew. I'm guessing it sat for a while since it was takeout, so I'll reserve judgment until I have it in person. Delicious Peruvian food by delivery for super reasonable prices--I'm a fan. read more

I've eaten at one other Peruvian restaurant and I thought this was the better of the two. They have an extensive menu. We had a Groupon and will be back. The portions were massive! One dish was enough for for about 3 meals for me. You could definitely share a dinner. My husband had a giant steak with pasta in a green basil based sauce. I had a fried rice type dish. We enjoyed it all even as leftovers. If you've never tried Peruvian food, I recommend giving Piolin a go for your first time! read more

Called & ordered, got it home & there was a huge hair wrapped on my chicken, came back & they're closed. Thanks for the waste of time

I have to say that both me and my boyfriend found the food to be absolutely amazing and isn't that why you go out to eat? :) Other costumers fault the ambiance or having to wait for an English speaker to serve if anything this shows that the food will be authentic... additionally we found all the staff very attentive and helpful.... Also the talked about their goods and wines with up I highly recommend checking out this restaurant read more

I liked what we had. This was my second ceviche I've had. The bread plate comes out with what I am assuming is huacatay which to me more tasted like ranch horseradish.... the huacatay I've had in New London I LOVE. But it was still tasty. Also served with what we think was corn nuts. Went with two friends, we ordered a few things and split them. I believe it was the house special ceviche Piolin and we liked it. Lots of lime. Ordered spicy. Wasn't very spicy. This disappointed my friend but it was still good. Also the outside seemed different than what the pictures show. And was different than the GPS said. But was close enough we could still find it. We also got the green noodles steak. It was basil spinach kind of like a pesto. Better than most Italian pestos I have had. SO tasty! Though I'm not a fan of pasta. And the steak was very hard to cut so we figured dry. But my friend pointed out it actually wasn't dry and he felt it was very well seasoned. I agree, tasty... but REALLY hard to cut and some gristle...but frankly it was the sauce on the noodles I liked best....I'd rather get some of that sauce and go put it on something like zucchini noodles... that sauce was SO good. I asked if they had salsa criollo and she said yes, I asked for the large. We also ordered the beet salad, and what appeared was apparently the house salad. And no salsa criollo in sight. I asked about the beets and if I understood her correctly I could have sworn she kept saying they were out of beans. I tried to clarify... I still am not sure. My friend asked to see the menu again...I pointed and she mentioned being out again...so it went back and forth and was confusing but we said ok can we have the salsa criollo and that came out and was good. But not as good as New London. My friend was thirsty so when she ran out and asked for more water they brought over a pitcher that was kind of pretty....metal and round, different than the usual restaurant pitchers. A nice touch. They also brought over another table that was high and totally tilted but it helped out a lot for our small table since I really wanted to sit at the cute white booth by the door. And the tongs were VERY helpful for serving each other and sharing dishes. The bathroom had nice smelling soap and my friend also enjoyed it. The reason we went here to begin with is my friend from dance who is also Peruvian and has been to all the Peruvian restaurants around recommended this one specifically and also the green noodle dish. After the three of us ate I also had a whole other meal to bring home which I probably made two small meals out of. Those darn basil spinach noodles- it was the sauce that was SOOOOO good!!! I would go here again if I was in the area as I LOVE Peruvian food! But if I Had to choose, I'd definitely go to the one in New London. I found the bar area prettier than the dining room though I liked the chandeliers. The outlet nearest us didn't seem to work to charge my friend's phone but another one worked, just was farther away. Also there were a handful of people playing pool over past the dining room. The parking was a bit confusing... we weren't certain it was ok to park where we did. There wasn't much parking on the road. The glass on the door was shattered but we couldn't feel it on either side, so don't know what that was about... There was something else I was going to say but I have forgotten. read more

Do not understand why this place continues to get business with better Peruvian food options blocks away. We ordered two pisco sours (okay, but on the sweet side and with cinnamon on the top instead of bitters...???), jalea personal and tacu tacu in salsa de mariscos. Both dishes were bad. Not mediocre, bad. The jalea is a fried seafood dish that usually comes with yuca. They used tilapia for the fried fish (WHY DO PERUVIAN RESTAURANTS USE A FISH THAT TASTES LIKE MUD), no yuca in sight (pre-frozen French fries instead), and the breading was mushy. The tacu tacu (rice and beans) was burned. How hard is it not to burn the tacu tacu? (Not hard--I make this at home). The seafood sauce was meh. I can't even say anything nice about the ají (lacked flavor), the huacatay (tasted like mayo), or even the cancha they served at the beginning (no salt). Don't waste your money here. Go to Rockin Chicken or Flaming Llama. read more

DELICIOUS food! I would definitely recommend Piolin II if you're looking for authentic, Peruvian cuisine. There is a dish for everyone. Even if you're picky, or afraid of trying new foods, the menu will have something for you. I had the Picante de Mariscos, which was seafood in a light spicy creamy sauce. The menu does not say whether the dishes have dairy, so make sure to ask if your dish has dairy in case you can't eat it. Although I can eat dairy, I avoid it so I wish I would have asked. The dish also came with a side of white rice. I could have easily shared the plate with a friend, because the portions are HUGE. My friend ordered the arroz con marisco which was also delicious and also had a portion for two. The prices were very reasonable as well. The only down side is that the food did take a bit long, but I presume it did because each dishes we picked take extra time to prepare- you cant just have cooked seafood plates ready to be ordered. They need to be made when ordered. The decoration is also a bit cheesy, so I agree with Jason M's comment below that it's not the place for a first date. In conclusion, I would definitely suggest this place if you're looking for delicious food and at a decent price. Like I often say, restaurants are 2 or the following 3 adjectives: bueno (good), barato (cheap), y bonito (pretty). Piolin II is bueno and barato...bonito not so much. read more

Ay, que sabrosa la comida Peruana! It's a little Spanish, a little Latin American, and a little Pan-Asian, believe it or not. Wherever the influence may have come from, I found it to be an excellent style of food that I've frankly never had before. We started with a pair of what is probably the single most alcoholic mixed drink I've ever been served, a Pisco Sour. It's a cousin of a Pina Colada... sweet and frothy, tropical flavors, etc. But the aforementioned Pisco, a grape brandy I've since learned, is no joke. Let's just say one was enough. Deliciosa. The Lomo Saltado, a beef stir fry dish with tomato, onion, and soy sauce (there's your Asian influence) was very nicely done. My girl's dish was excellent too. A shrimp and chicken dish served with, for lack of a better term, a Peruvian Bechamel... creamy and savory. Both were served with ample portions of rice, bread, and other little treats. Just know that this is not a first date restaurant, rather more like a third date restaurant. It's very plain inside with minimal decoration. Monica, our waitress, was enormously helpful and super nice... she even let me place our order en Español. But I'm afraid I must also report that at times she kinda disappeared on us... the meal took a bit longer than it could have. A minor downfall that bears mentioning. Still, this was a very enjoyable and memorable first time Peruvian food experience. We'll surely be back to try new things. read more

Being my first experience at a Peruvian restaurant, it set the bar high for future adventures! The outside is deceiving as to the delicious food inside. The waiter was ingratiating and patient with our questions. We had pork tamale as an appetizer that was paired Nicely with salsa. We shared a grilled chicken dish and a ribeye steak. We also shared a purple corn drink and plantains. It is definitely worth trying. read more

Peruvian food is so great--I especially love the creamy aji that adds some flavor to anything and everything (I enjoy the spicest one the best, douse your rice in it. Reminds me a lot of the Spanish tradition of mayonesa with paella). Try the typical Peruvian Pisco Sour (grape brandy cocktail typical of Peru mixed with cinnamon, lime juice, egg whites, sugar and bitters...a bit expensive, $8) and fried fish with grilled onions/peppers and rice (Pescado a la Chorrillana, I think it cost me something like $14...pricey, but I ate it for two days). I would absolutely be back here soon, but it's out of my most current price range (hint, hint). Que aproveche! read more

We came in for dinner with my family and we experience a terrible TERRIBLE service. The worst part was that we were the only table in the restaurant. Our server had an attitude the entire time. When we asked for our check, she gave us the wrong receipt, when I asked about it she gave us more attitude claiming that the prices were similar and it shouldn't matter... it took her three times to get it right. Insane. I'd never go back there. If they want more business they should hire new servers. read more

I had the most bizarre service here this weekend, which only added to the great experience at Piolin. The waitress was taking our orders. I ordered the house specialty ceviche ($17) and the fried fish in golden sauce ($14). She very attentively listened to my order, animately explained what the "golden sauce" (golden=butter) was, then when my friend was about to order his steak, she took off. We were aghast--"wait, why did she leave without taking the other person's order"? The answer came from another waitress: "The portions are HUGE. She probably thought you had ordered enough." Man, was she right. When I ordered the ceviche, i was expecting, you know, "ceviche"--five thinly sliced tiny things layered out in a fan like you get at expensive tapas restaurants. Hell no, this is more like CEVICHE!!!! We got a huge mound of fish, octopus, squid, shrimp, covered in spicy yumminess and adorned with corn, potato, and yam. Whoa. The "appetizer" is like an entree. Then the entree came. For $14, you get two large fillets sandwiching mounds of delicious, buttery onions/corn and rice. Everything was delicious. The best part: Whenever the waitress came to ask us how things were, she would only talk to me, saying "How is everything, miss?" completely ignoring my male friend. But when she took the check (I was paying), she took my credit card bill to my friend, as if expecting the man to pay for the girl. Hahaha! I loved the feminist service and the great, fresh food. I plan to try all the Peruvian restaurants on Franklin ave, but so far, I am off to a good start! read more

VERY VERY good food. I have been here a few times but sadly have only tried their whole chicken with rice and salad ( in a way a good thing ) since I like it so much I find myself always ordering the same. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The service is always good and I love how they receive me every time I walk in there, they really know how to make one feel welcome. I always take my food to go therefore I cant really review the location itself but everything looks clean and nicely kept. Would come back for more. read more

I'll start off with the food - when we got it, it was great. We had ceviche as an appetizer which was a good thing because hubby did not get his dinner. Mine was served and we waited and waited and waited for his. The place was not busy - 3;30 on a Saturday afternoon. But as he continued to wait I noticed big to-go orders coming out of the kitchen. We waited over 15 minutes and finally just told them to forget it. He ordered whole fried snapper & I honestly think they forgot it. It did ruin the experience. If we both had to wait I would understand but not this. I doubt we'll go back which is too bad... read more

Piolin Restaurant - Lunch! - Peruvian Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

My family and I love The location on New Britain Ave and thought we'd give this larger location a try and wow were we disappointed. Service was among the worst I've ever experienced. We were served the wrong dish (seafood ceviche instead of the shrimp ceviche) but our waitress kept insisting we keep it because there were some shrimp in it. When we nicely said ok but we would like what we ordered she reluctantly took at back the the cook came back out and said the same thing. Maybe there was a shrimp shortage or something? I do want to point out that language was not the issue, my husband speaks Spanish. The dining room looked very dirty and unkempt and there were flies everywhere including our drinks. Please do yourself a favor and patronize their New Britain Ave location while it may be smaller and the parking is a pain the food and service is worth it! read more

This review is for Saturday. This is not my 1st, 2nd or even third time eating here. But it was the first time doing take out. Let's say very disappointed. To start when I went in there is a sign that said wear masks but yet the two servers waiting on seated guests were not wearing them. Confusing. Now let's talk about my food. I am a lomo guy all the way. Have eaten from many places. Normally I love piolin lomo. Today I ordered it with tacu tacu. I originally ordered 2 orders but was told there was only enough for one. Upon opening the container 3/4 was tacu tacu and 1/4 lomo. Very dissatisfied. Could have easily split the tacu tacu in two containers and just added more lomo which in reality many have only been a bit more meat between two orders. In addition, it didn't have their normal flavor. Without many dine in customers you might want to make sure your take outs are the way you would server your family. There are a lot of others competing for business. Be the best. One more chance is what I'll give. No thirds. Unfortunately the bad review has to be added for your chefs to realize their error. read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant as a newly featured place on Restaurant.com and decided to purchase a gift certificate. I must say, upon approaching the building we weren't sure what to expect, but we were wonderfully surprised with our meal! The atmosphere is very casual, there's booth seating and a bar (which wasn't open when we were there as they didn't have their liquor license yet), it was quite, clean, and welcoming. Neither of us had eaten Peruvian food before, so we needed to lean heavily on our waitress, who was beyond pleasant and once of the best server's I've had in quite some time. Based on her recommendations we had the following: Appetizer: Jalea Persona. This came out as a dish of lightly breaded white fish, shrimp, a crab leg, oysters, some other seafood and yucca fries. We weren't totally sure what to expect but the dish was great. While it was an entree the waitress highly recommended it so we gave it a shot. To our happiness everything was only lightly breaded, and the white fish was incredible! Certainly better than most you receive at casual dining places! The yucca fries were to die for and the sauces that you receive are both unique, tasty and wonderfully compliment the meal. Upon being seated she also recommended a diet Peruvian soda, that we loved, and brought us fried corn kernels which was out of this world. Having never had the dish I expected something like corn nuts (hard brittle corn pieces) but was shocked when they burst in my mouth like butter. So tasty! Entrees: We had 1/4 of their signature (which was MORE than enough and had to come home with us) and Lomo Salatdo. Both of these dish were more than enough food for us to split and we came home with enough leftovers for another meal. The chicken seems to be a signature dish, and the rub on it's skin was great. The chicken was cooked to perfection and wonderfully most. The lomo salatdo was great, the sauce perfect, and the steak very tender. Both dishes our waitress helped choose, as the new cuisine seemed overwhelming to choose just one thing! And she was great at picking out a perfect variety for us. Dessert: even though we'd boxed everything up we felt it only right to have dessert. Upon our waitress suggestion we had substance she described as a Peruvian fruit, that tasted of butterscotch made into an ice cream. And it was exactly that! It was light, fluffy and had a GREAT taste!! Overall the experience was outstanding. I can't say enough about our waitress - she was truely great, made excellent recommendations and gave amazing service. The atmosphere was good, not to busy, and the food came out quickly. She also mentioned that they have two more locations - East Hartford on Main St., and Hartford on New Britain Ave., I can't speak for them, but this location was great! A must try! read more

I ate here for my birthday with some friends . All i have to say is Wow! One of my friends had the ceviche ,which is served cold and spicy. It was delicious considering it's not something I normally eat after trying some of hers. Usually my go to dish is lomo saltado . But someone convinced me to try something different. I had the Tallarin verde con bisteck, which is a spinach basil spaghetti with steak and Peruvian spices. It was fantastic . One of the best meals I had in a long time. I only had to knock one star off because the credit card machine was down and told us after the fact. Since none of us had cash on us, that's a no no . Eventually they got the machine working. But overall will definitely be back read more
