Piolin is probably my main go-to Peruvian restaurant. I love the calm atmosphere. It seems like even when it's busy, patrons are calm and the flow is smooth. The food is amazing, specifically the Lomo Saltado. I'd like to say I get adventurous but honestly I usually stick to the Lomo. It never disappoints. The Chicha beverage is also my favorite. Refreshing and delicious. I doordashed a 32oz cup the other day with some food, and it was so great to open my fridge and enjoy it when I wanted it. Service can be a bit of a hit or miss, but staff is nice and do work hard. read more

Went out with a Peruvian friend to Piolin on New Britain Ave. place was nothing fancy with limited seating, but clean and reminiscent of many of the ethnic restaurants I grew up with in Hartford. Server was friendly and helpful. Only ding was that we got our meal before our drinks. We had the Jalea fried seafood plate which was plentiful, well cooked and tasty. We also ordered a one of the steaks medium rare, but came more in the medium well side. Price point was very considerably low for the amount of food we received, so the steak was not the best cuts, but well seasoned. Overall, this is a friendly neighborhood place which focuses on providing an abundance of flavorful food at a low price point. Enjoy! read more

Had dinner Friday night after work. I wanted to treat myself after a hard week at work. I love Peruvian cuisine. I ordered their signature brasa a la pollo. I was not impressed with the the presentation unfortunately. The whole meal was wonderful, but was crammed on a small dinner plate. I ordered hot tea, it was lukewarm at best. I put some of the bones and skin of the chicken on the empty saucer under the tea cup. I know there are better Peruvian spots I can eat in. The fries were the best I have ever eaten. Wow read more

With so many great places to get Peruvian food in CT, it's only right that we went to check out one of the longest running Peruvian restaurants in CT and the oldest in Hartford! This authentic spot is serving delicious food! Loved the rotisserie chicken, Peruvian style fried rice, and Lomo Saltado. The food came out quickly, and the restaurant maintains tradition well. Everyone was so friendly, and the dining room was decorated nicely. Such a great spot to know about! read more

Piolin Restaurant Sr - I was having so much fun taking pictures - Latin American Near Me - Hartford, Connecticut

**Please Note: this is only for the FOOD as we ended up getting Delivery and did not go to the restaurant** So we decided on takeout/delivery Friday night when we were in Hartford. It was the day after we had a comedy of errors when traveling and we just wanted to stay in. Scrolling through the options we came upon Piolin. After going through the menu we decided why not? Ended up ordering the Pollo a la Brasa (half a rotisserie chicken), the Mixtura Piolin (rib-bye, pork, chicken, shrimp and sausage), and the Ceviche Piolin (fish, shrimp, mussels, and calamari). This was more than enough food for the 3 of us and it hit the spot perfectly. The Ceviche was delicious, and honestly maybe we should have had 2 orders it was so good and full of flavor. The pollo was very moist and flavorful. And the mixtura...delicious. The extra sauce that came with the food for dipping was soo good. I can't even begin to describe it, some kind of curry adjacent flavor I think. Overall, we wished we had gone into the restaurant, but it hit the spot for a group of travel weary hermits on a Friday night in Hartford. read more

Piolin on New Britain Ave in Hartford may not be the first place where I ate Peruvian food, but it's the first Peruvian restaurant that captured my attention. When the individual dining habits of a single person make way for the collective dining interests of a family, sometimes you don't visit certain places that you love as often as you want. That's unfortunately been the case with Piolin, but it felt good to be back. I have always loved Piolin's House Chaufa. If you like Chinese style fried rice, you're going to love Piolin's Chaufa. It's similar, but far more jam-packed with stuff. The House Chaufa has shrimp, calamari, shelled mussels, beef, chicken, egg and some veggies. You could go other ways with ingredients. All beef. All seafood. All chicken. But I like the variety. The rice arrived as a giant, neat mound. The rice had great flavor and texture. With the exception of the calamari, which is chewy by nature, the seafood, meat and poultry were all tender and tasty. I could go on and on about the accompanying "aji" sauce (aka the Green Sauce) and how it's zingy, garlicky, herby, mild heat makes it one of the best condiments in any cuisine. But I've done that in other reviews and I don't want to repeat myself. It's glorious! Piolin's Chaufa is so good, that it doesn't need the aji. Who's going to turn down aji though? It's the type of thing that gets you on a "No Fly" list. I can't emphasize how much of everything there was. Look at my pics, you can see the shrimp, calamari, chicken and egg busting out of the mound. After you look at the full mound pic, look at my leftover container. I may have three meals left and the ratio of seafood, chicken and beef to rice is still very strong. Service was welcoming and efficient. The restaurant is nice inside. The parking situation can be rough. However, if you're like me, I never let that get in the way of great food. I want to mention that there have been and may still be other area restaurants with the name Piolin. I've always assumed that they're related, but don't know. I do know that the New Britain Ave. Piolin has always been my favorite. If you've enjoyed Peruvian food at other area places, you're not alone. I have too. But in my experience, this Piolin is the best of them. Even the bread is really fresh and good. Five Stars read more

I got there as they were opening the faint scent of a clean restaurant in the air gave me confidence that they care. A friend from work suggested this place and made at myself for not trying it sooner. I ordered the Rotisserie chicken and the steak fried rice! The first bite of the rice lit my eyes up, perfectly seasoned, tender strips of steak, eggs sooo good. The rotisserie chicken was delicious you can taste the seasoning down to the bone, both juice and tender. It came with a creamy green sauce not sure what's in it, I was so surprised by how good it was. I am thoroughly satisfied, for this amount of food what a deal only $37. I will return for the fried snapper read more

WoW. What a pleasant surprise! While it may not seem impressive on the outside, the inside of this Peruvian restaurant is filled with friendly staff and generous servings of amazing food!! I can see why it's a popular lunch spot for people who work in the area. (My DIL highly recommends the onion salad.) I can't pronounce the name of the soup I ordered, but it was green -- lol -- had beef and noodles -- and was a huge bowl of deliciousness!! It's something like beef with noodles. It was so amazing that before I even finished my meal, I placed another 2 orders to go! The other people in my group loved their meals also. Don't miss out on this gem!!! read more

I took my mother to this restaurant. She is disabled. When we got to the restaurant and made the line for a while, they told us when it was our turn that the wait was 45 minutes. Because the wait was so long, we decided to go to another restaurant. Today I called to let them know I'm on my way with my mother and her aide. The guy says on the phone that they do not make reservations. I explained the situation to him and asked how do I get a guarantee after making the line that the wait time is not going to be that long. I explained that my mother is disabed. A complete disregard for the customers and disabled individuals. I'll take my business somewhere else ... read more

We just arrived at Piolin. We got a bottle of Chicha Morada with ice on the side and a water bottle. While the server was taking our order I was about to serve the ice to my family and there was a cockroach on the ice. The server apologized and then went to get a new ice bucket. All the ice comes from the same place. Why would I want more nasty ice? I was mortified. I wanted to leave but I had young ones in my family that were pretty hungry and there was no other Peruvian restaurant open. This is probably the worst experience I have had in a restaurant in my whole life. Food was not even good.

I most say that I wasn't a big fan of Peruvian food so I thought. That thought vanished once I had the Arroz Chaufa from Piolin (Peruvian fried rice) think of Chinese fried rice with latin flair and flavors very delicioso. The roasted chicken is also worth trying "pollo a la brasa". They have special during the week which is great. Their portion are on the big side and the prices are reasonably affordable. Parking might be difficult to find but if in a rush you can order ahead and pick up or they also deliver. Overall great place for authentic Peruvian food. Friendly staff and generally quick service. read more

So I have been to this restaurant multiple times and the food and services was great until today. I left a 12 hour shift hungry for a nice meal so I decided to stop in Piolin to order take out. After a shower I decided to sit down and eat my dinner and the chicken was old and hard. When I called to make a complaint I was told I ordered my dinner at 8:40 and just now calling. Yes I ordered my dinner at 8:40 but I never received it until a little after 9 pm. The person I hang up the phone and just brushed the complaint to the side! This is my last time supporting this place! This is not acceptable!! Now I'm down a meal and $23.00 read more

Best Peruvian food around. Great quality, great prices, and great service!! recommend doing to go.

There is Ceviche and there is Peruvian Ceviche nothing more to be said really, one bite and all the Ceviches of the past or present ultimately pale in comparison to this particular version. I believe the Piolin restaurant has one of the very best Ceviches to be found in the greater Hartford area. The art form necessary to meld the various sea foods together while maintaining optimum flavor, texture and freshness is imo unsurpassed. Don't be put off by the limited parking or the bedraggled store front appearance, once in said the outside world disappears and another Peruvian culinary world of adventure unfolds, do not miss this wonderful hidden Hartford gem. read more

I need to stop here whenever I visit family. Great Peruvian food. My favorites are the choritos a la chalaca (mussels), and the Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian Fried Rice). My family loves their Pollo a la brasa (roast chicken). We always end with leftovers, since their servings are so large! read more

We ordered Piolin every week of the quarantine. It was our favorite go to take out place. We loved the family combination of the chaufa (Peruvian fried rice), roast chicken, and salsa criolla. Good Peruvian place, tight parking. The green sauce was killer. There is nothing that I love more than green sauce with the popcorn kernels and they certainly deliver on that. I got the pescado en salsa de camerones and it was delicious. A little salty but not a huge deal. My boyfriend got the lomo saltado -- beef was tender. It came with fries and veggies. Not a big fan of fries with meals but that's personal preference. Very small restaurant and at one point it got a little loud. It didn't bother us though, we were too busy enjoying our food and the green sauce!! read more

Went in for dinner at 5:30pm on a Saturday. We didn't have a reservation so we put our names on the waiting list. We were waiting for about 10 minutes, when another party of 10 came in. They also did not have a reservation, but one of the people of that party starting complaining in Spanish, they should not have to wait for a seat. There were 3 other parties waiting when she walked in, but the employee seated the party of 10 before any of the people that had already have been waiting. So because I don't speak Spanish, I don't matter!! I guess a party of 2, that had there names on a waiting list are not as important as a party of 10 that just walks in. Luckily, the other person in my party speaks Spanish, otherwise I would have not know how much people that don't speak the language are treated!! It was very disrespectful and I will never consider this place again!!! read more

I pass by Piolin Restaurant on New Britain Ave. a couple of times per month but had never heard anything about it so I never paid it much of my mind. When my husband and son said it was on their radar for lunch following an enthusiastic recommendation, I wasn't even remotely excited but decided to give the Peruvian restaurant a try. The welcome from the waitress was "non existent" and initially I felt slightly irritated and just wanted to leave. But after informing her this was our first visit, her attention improved. I ordered Pescado a lo macho a Fried fillet covered with seafood, served with half of a boiled egg in an interesting and unexpected sauce with a delightful flavor. I swapped out the Brown potato for Yucca Fries and now I'm hooked on them. (See photo). My son ordered the House Specialty, Ceviche Piolin, which came with a side of Fried Calamari, steamed Yucca, sweet potato, and corn on the cob. I didn't think he would enjoy it, but was I wrong. Actually, we both did. I couldn't keep my fork out of his plate! Hubbie ordered Chaufa de camarones, pollo & carne, (which was basically fried rice with a lot mix-ins). There was enough leftovers for another full meal. Looking forward to another visit to Piolin soon. What a pleasant surprise! read more

Horrific parking situation, dreary cafeteria-like interior, out of the way location.... none of this ends up mattering once you start eating. Every dish I've had here is totally spot on. From the crispy jalea and tangy ceviche to the arroze chufa de mariscos (fried rice with seafood) and incredible pollo a la brasa (seriously, Peruvian rotisserie chicken is otherworldly and they do it right here), Piolin always has me dreaming about my next visit. The service is always friendly and reasonably quick. Huge fan! read more
