We got a chicken empanada, pernil (shredded pork) rice bowl, and mofongo chicken wrap. The empanada tasted awful, we both shared half of it and just tossed the rest. The rice bowl was surprisingly really great though. I loved the combination of chimichurri sauce, mayo-ketchup, and pico. The meat was a little over cooked but really nicely spiced. My partner also liked his chicken wrap. It was a good size, well filled, and tasted good. He said it didn't taste much different than a Mexican burrito though. Ordered online. Order was not ready when I went for the pickup time - they did not seem very busy and I don't think the employees saw it come in. Ordered 2 bowls, both with chimmichuri and pico - received one tiny side of each. Not sure if it was a mistake or it was meant to be shared, but it was not enough for even one bowl. Down town on Main Street resides this restaurant. It's filled with colorful murals, ultra clean, and plenty of seating. I loved the yellow accent benches! I originally ran into staff at Mofongo at CCSU during spirit week while working there as a chef. They let me try out pretty much the whole assortment of juices they were offering, and I told them I would be in... That was 4 years ago!!!! I'm so happy to see they are thriving in the New Britain community. I couldn't choose between fresh juices, so the lovely lady mixed the two for a delicious strawberry mango concoction. It was tough to decide what to get until I saw what the guest in line ahead of me got and said, "I want that!" Carne frita (fried pork) was made in front of me using balled up plantains and garlic oil, topped with meat, thinly sliced fried pork. This is the second time I've been here. I initially went many years ago and I thought the food was amazing. I was recently in New Britain and wanted to go again. It's definitely not as good as I remember. The staff was super nice however there is no AC on a very hot day. I ordered the veggie Mofongo. Asked me which sauce and I didn't know who he gave me some samples. It just tasted dry so I needed a lot of sauce to give it flavor. My husband liked his rice and bean dish that he made up. I did not like them empanada. I thought the empanada was very oily and greasy, and I could barely taste. What was inside from the over And grease. I have never had an empanada so I'm not sure if this is common for empanadas or not. I don't plan on coming back. I think everyone should check it out to see if they like it. Major letdown. Most of the menu wasn't available, including the mofongo itself, steak, tilapia, the salads, or the mofongo burger. What I saw on Yelp that I wanted wasn't available, either. As a business owner, you can't take ten minutes to update your menu online and in person? This is the bare minimum. What I did get was so greasy that the oil was dripping from the paper bag and my fingers. What a turnoff. The chicken wrap was the only saving grace. However, the beef or chicken empanadas had no flavor, the French fries were gross, the sweet plantains in the canoa tasted old, and the ground beef had that white grease on the bottom of it so it was less than appetizing. Also got the alcapurria bite, but it's nothing special and weren't crispy on the outside like they are supposed to be. It was just a lame experience. read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening after a friend suggested it to us and we were in the mood for some good Hispanic food. We both ordered a mofongo, I had mine with pork and my fiancé had hers with shrimp. I expected to wait a standard 20 minutes for a nice fresh one, but the guy working behind the counter pulled it out from the back in some kind of foil and added the rest from his vicinity within a couple of minutes. So instantly we were skeptical of its freshness. I enjoy when my mofongo when it's a bit on the softer side, just generally easier to eat especially when it's paired with something dry like the pork so I enjoyed the texture of mines. Although if it was a bit drier I would've accepted that too. However for those who like theirs more on the drier side, like my fiancé, this is not the one for you. Her shrimps were also on the colder side and it didn't have the amount of garlic she was looking for. My pork was pretty good, but the mofongo itself needed some more life to it. This place gave more of a fast-food mofongo vibe to it, which is an interesting concept and in hindsight should've refrained us from going if we really wanted something fresh/delicious. This was really good. I got the trifongo aNd it was sooo filling. I actually barely was able to get halfway through at lunch and I swear it was even better later that night for dinner leftovers! I got my order to go so when I got home and opened the container, my house was immediately filled with the amazing aroma of garlic and spices and sweet plantains!! Parking is easy. It's downtown. Spots right in front. Service is quick and VERY helpful. They walked me through the whole process and were very friendly. Great, authentic place for mofongo in New Britain. I've had mofongo in Puerto Rico before and this place is just as good if not better. This is a fast casual restaurant somewhat like Chipotle where you tell them what type of dish and meat and then you can choose from a variety of toppings. I ordered the pork mofongo which is their most popular dish. I can understand why! The pork was so tender and flavorful and just melted in my mouth. The chimichurri that I added on top added a nice, bright contrast to the savory meat. I also got the salsa on top as well which didn't taste quite as fresh but was a good flavor as well. They also have the option of adding spicy mayo but I didn't add that this time. The mofongo itself was pretty good. I felt like it was well seasoned and it didn't crumble apart from being really dry and it wasn't very gummy either. Perfectly in the middle. My bf got the trifongo which is just the pork mofongo with the addition of rice and plantains on top of the mofongo. He said it was alright but not worth the extra $2 since he felt like he got less of the mofongo too. Portions here are huge!! I was easily able to split this in to two hearty meals. My bf finished his but was stuffed at the end. Only giving four stars because while the food quality was great, the flavors we're pretty standard and I'm not dying to go back asap. It is a pretty heavy meal. The service could have been a little better as well. This is truly an interesting spot. It is basically a fusion between traditional Puerto Rican food and American fast food, as there are Puerto Rican spins on a bunch of different fast food classics. For example I got pretty generic (and honestly pretty low quality) chicken, but it came with a delicious lump of mofongo and was topped with both pico-de-gallo and mayo-ketchup. The restaurant is set up in a Chipotle-esk style, where they have all of their ingredients in front of you and you pick and choose what you want in your dish. The seating is communal, as is the case in Chipotle, as well. They serve breakfast items as well! Some of the downsides are that it is in a pretty shady spot and the food is served in plastic containers, however I recommend checking it out for the novelty of trying something new if nothing else 6.5/10 read more

There's such a variety of different bowls and Hispanic meals, it's amazing. Everything you can think of, they just about serve. Even the tre Leche cakes in personal size!! If you like Hispanic food or looking to try it. Then Mofongo is your spot to explore!! So I ended up going with the steak bowl,which comes with Spanish Rice, Beans,Grilled and Seasoned Steak! Covered with Grilled Onions oh how I love Onions. They also have a pork and chicken bowl. The Spanish Rice was cooked to perfection. Soft tasty not crunchy like some places,and the beans just melts in your mouth yummy!! This is a definite must try place, I will be returning to try the other bowls. The family were starving and went in here to grab a quick bite after visiting the sister-in-law at HOCC hospital (new baby in the family). We might have caught them towards the end of the day ~ 4:45pm because the food wasn't fresh, rice was dry and so was the Pernil. I tried a serving of the sweet&spicy chicken which was batter fried small chicken pieces in a tangy sauce which I didn't really care for either. The Mrs loves chicharrones and religiously orders it as her way of judging a Latin restaurant. She said it was...just ok and nothing to talk about. I guess prices everywhere are nowadays inflated but I think we could have got better for cheaper if we had time to look around but everyone was starving at the time. First, in relation to Covid this business is doing great! It feels very safe and everyone is practicing proper protocol. I went to Parkland market for the first time today. I just picked the wrong vendor. The first thing is the staff, they weren't friendly. I ordered a shrimp salad very excited about it. But excited me the most was the cilantro lime dressing! Upon ordering the woman told me that they were out of that dressing it was either Cesar or ranch. The dressing was in a store packet, I expected it to be homemade. The salad was just so so. I stopped by here this past Thursday by myself for dinner. I happened to be in New Britain and so checked Yelp for a place to eat. Mofongo happened to be only .3 miles away and had 4.5 on 111 Yelp reviews. Not only is that impressive but I have always wanted to try a proper mofongo and so I headed over. The set up of the place is sort of like a chipotle or subway. If you order a rice bowl, you can pick your items and watch them build it in front of you. If you order a monfongo though, you wait a bit for it and don't have that option. I did watch them mash the plantain with a mortar and pestle which was quite cool. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the shrimp mofongo along with some chimichurri as a sauce. From the time that I ordered until it was ready I would guess that it took maybe 15 minutes. Once I had it, I took a seat near the window looking out onto the street. As I mentioned earlier, this was my first time having a mofongo and so I was pretty excited about it. I don't know what I was expecting but my first bite was a little firmer than expected. That's not to say that it was bad as it was actually quite good but I guess I was expecting it to be a bit mushier. I especially liked the plantain flavor and starchiness that it gave. Alongside the Monfongo were also 7 shrimp which I enjoyed. They were prepared simply and had a nice and sweet flavor to them. Hands down one of the best places (if not the best) place to eat in New Britain. I'm privy to their rice bowls with the veggies and loads of extra sauces. All their veggies are marinated and seasoned to perfection, which is a true benchmark of success for a restaurant. My boyfriend got a chicken and rice bowl and he couldn't stop raving about the sautéed chicken - phenomenal flavors, all around. Price is fair, considering the portions. I originally tried this place at the Parkville Market in Hartford. Then got the idea to visit the actual restaurant. Food: got the steak mofongo, super super delicious. I'd recommend eating it with all of the sauces, and perhaps rice also. The steak is flavorful- not over cooked, and tender. The mofongo is cooked just right, it's not salty at all- which complements the steak wonderfully. Parking: wasn't good, as it's located in downtown.
