I actually like their bowls with the shrimp pretty good I would def recommend to the next

Friendly staff, great food, great prices. It's always welcoming and clean. Great place for Spanish food. Hands down recommend.

MofonGo - Barbecue chicken and rice bowl - Puerto Rican Near Me - New Britain, Connecticut

OK so this was my first time trying Puerto Rican food and Mofongo. Let me just say, I am blown away! I've heard really good things about this place and with just recently starting a job in New Britain, this was top of my list of places to try. We went around noon but called ahead because we heard there is usually a line. I ordered the Pork Mofongo which is their most popular dish. WOW. Upon first bite I was already impressed. The flavors came together so well and the pork was perfectly tender. I couldn't even finish my bowl. Happily satisfied by 1pm. I'll definitely be back! read more

I had higher expectations for this place to be honest. The mofongo was good not great. They didn't have much to go with it when I went which really disappointed me. Not sure I would drive all the way there again to try it again. Service was ok. The girl behind the counter had a whatever attitude which was also quite disappointing but I did fee a bit bad for her as she also seemed overwhelmed. read more

Awesome Food!!! I got the Pernil Rice Bowl (Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder). $8.99 I added the plantains for $1. This was my 1st time in downtown New Britain. Cool area with a nice park. Mofongo is right in front of the park in the center of it all. Heads up parking is meters everywhere so have some quarters ready. Staff was friendly and plenty of space to sit. Lots of windows and with the location you can definitely people watch and see the rhythm of the area. I went around lunchtime and the area was busy. I got my food relatively quick and it was hot and fresh. Overall I really enjoyed it and will be back read more

Lately, Mofongo has been my go-to whenever I'm craving something hearty. I absolutely looove mofongo for its bite. The texture of fried, mashed plantain is unparalleled by any other mashed carb I've had. Although it's meant to be a base for your meat, it's studded with garlic pieces which means each bite brings forth a burst of flavor. The dish is even more amazing when served with pernil (shredded pork), chicharrones and salsa. For less than $20, you're sure to walk away with a meal that's large enough to feed two, but I bet you won't want to put your bowl down til it's all gone. Another favorite of mine is the carne frita (fried pork). The fried pork is toothsome - with a chewy interior and a crisp, thoroughly browned exterior. The fluffy white rice, drizzled with a fresh chimichurri, make for a perfect complement to the meat. Treat your soul to something delicious and opt for Mofongo today! read more

One of the best Mofongo's I've had in the Hartford area. I am glad I finally got to make it to this place. The restaurant is located in downtown New Britain where parking can get a lil tricky, but I got lucky during both my visits. This restaurant was fully occupied on a Saturday afternoon for lunch as well as Monday evening for dinner. Absolutely loved the Mofongo, my favorite is the shrimp Mofongo and my partner liked the chicken Mofongo. They fry fresh plantains to make the Mofongo and it's packed with flavors. The gravy of the shrimp or the chicken broth or the steak broth makes the Mofongo moist and easy to eat. They add a sauce while mashing the plantains and then after the add the protein, there are 3 other sauces (spicy mayo, chimichurri sauce and salsa) which adds all the flavors to the dish. We also tried the yellow rice which was fine and not the greatest after you taste the Mofongo. Also the empanadas were ok and not my favorite. The star dish is definitely the Mofongo for me and I am a fan of this restaurant. read more

I have heard about this restaurant for so long and finally had the chance to stop as I was driving through New Britain today. While I didn't have the time to eat in, I would love to in the future. Each table has an assortment of hot sauces available, and that is super exciting in itself! I decided to get a few items to try including the alcapurria bites, papas rellenos bites and a pork mofongo. I'm going to start by saying everything was out of this world! The alcapurria was hot and had the most flavorful meat on the inside. The papas rellenos were a bit softer than I expected, but are definitely not to be missed. While the taste is similar between the two, they are both different so definitely try one of each! Now the mofongo - my goodness. The pernil was juicy and perfectly spiced. The plantains were also delicious and the sauce was flavorful and just rounded out the whole bite. I wish I lived closer to this restaurant to be able to go more often, but either way this won't be my last time visiting! I also have to add that the staff were outstanding, offering both recommendations and additions (sauces, etc.). I had to wait a few extra minutes for the mofongo to be made, so they kept my other food in the warmer until it was done. The customer service did not go unnoticed! read more

Was very excited try some mofongo, ordered the Mango Habanero. Turns out the chicken was the only thing I found palpable, even though there was too much breading and not enough chicken. The mofongo itself was very dry and so garlicky I had to spit it out. Didn't even taste salted and crumbled once I stuck my fork in. Pretty disappointing. If you come here I strongly advise opting for the rice bowl. note: this place is located in Parkville Market, and considering every stand is open to the public with exposed views of the kitchen, you would think that they would at least keep up with the cleanliness in the customer window. When I went to pickup my food I noticed the window encased with dust, where they were keeping to go containers face down. Kind of a shame because I'm sure a lot of different vendors would love to take over their place!! read more

During my trip i happened to pass by this restaurant and it totally delivered the expectation. first time trying Puerto Rican food and it was deliciou, not to mention that portions are very good. Excellente! Great food, a different taste and a cultural food statement. I got the Trifungo, it was rice/beans, sweet plantain, Mofongo (a form of smashed plantain) and shrimp full of flavor! The staff was helpful, quick and made sure you got ALOT of food for your price! Overall it was a great lunch option and great experience overall! read more

I had the chicken mofongo and my wife had the bistec encebollado with rice and beans. The food was very good. Our server Keny G. was very attentive and detail-oriented. He even took a selfie with us. The ambiance is very nice with wall paintings of all things Puerto Rican and there were a lot of families eating there. I would highly recommend Mofongo Restaurant for that authentic mom and pop Puerto Rican cuisine. Btw the alcapurrias were a perfect appetizer. read more

The shrimp mofongo was made fresh to order. It was full of flavor and delicious! We will be back!!!

First time trying Mofongo! I've heard about it and seen it while driving around New Britain. Today I was particularly craving Puerto Rican cuisine so I decided to give it a try. I was extremely satisfied. I ordered the Pernil Rice Bowl with Spanish rice (you have an option between that and white rice), Beef Empanada, and the Sorullito. First of all, the portions were huge and I'm not complaining. I have plenty of leftover pernil for the next couple of days. The empanada was STUFFED when usually I get half of what they put in their empanada. Everything was especially tasty! Pernil was tender and moist. Spanish rice was fluffy and perfect. Empanada, again, filling was plentiful and juicy with nice bites of onion and pepper. The pastry was soft and flaky. Definitely will be ordering from here again, and soon. read more

The food at Mofongo is delicious!!! I have been there close to 10 times since discovering it last year. It's very flavorful and my husband and I always enjoy it. The pernil is tender and tastes great. We often get the pernil bowls with Spanish rice and beans. It's too good!! The mofongo may even be better. I love the shrimp mofongo with yummy, garlicky chimichurri and pico de gallo. Portions are generous and it's a fabulous option for takeout. They have some tables there, but it gets crowded, so I wouldn't plan on eating in if you have a large party. The people who work there are friendly and welcoming. It's a true find!!! read more

I like what the owners done the only reason I deduct one star is because I am Puerto Rican and I know talking to the owner it's an American Puerto Rican twist on mofungo but I like the traditional style my. In some restaurant I saw a dish by the name mofongo. The name sounded funny. So I decided to try it. And I got hooked. Searching for a restaurant with mofongo I found this place. Restaurant with name itself mofongo. And I have to agree that their mofongo is delicious. Any mofongo here is good. I generally like beef. So I go with beef mofongo. My girl friend likes chicken. But it doesn't matter all are delicious. Speaking outside mofongo it's a different story. I felt their burger is not as good. It lacks flavor. There is a mofongo burger. It feels like it will give the taste of both mofongo and burger together. But it does not. Tostones and fried plantains are good. In short the five stars is only for their mofongo. Stay away from the bugers. read more

You need to eat at MOFONGOS!!! The food is authentic and true to the amazing Puerto Rucan sazon or rich enticing flavors of the Caribbean. Every item was PERFECT in presentation and in spices, delicious like Abuela's home cooking! The alcapurrias, excellent, the Mofongo stuffed Chicken was extra yummy with arroz con gandules and salad! My cousin had the Zarzuela de Bacalao which was a delightfully delicious treat to the palate. But the icing on the cake are the two EXTRAORDINARY BARTENDERS that made the best drinks ever - Sangria was artistically delicious and served with a smile. Daniel and Daivon know how to keep customers happy and are outstanding cocktail mixers - extremely excellent customer service! We will definitely be back for more! We got to Miami after a long flight. As we searched for comfort food MofonGo caught our attention. My partner and I sat at the bar and since the beginning of our experience I felt like I was at home. Both the bartender and Dairon were always attentive, they gave us a pastelito to taste and 2 shots of coquito at the end of our meal which was an incredible way yo end our meal! I couldnt be happier with the food, overall service and experience. I was with my vegetarian and friend and he absolutely loved it! not to mention Dairon gave me a little souvenir from his country that I really appreciate it. I will definitely cone back every time I'm in Miami. Much love! read more

I was so excited to learn that Mofongo had a veggie option for it's featured dish. I haven't had Mofongo in years as it is usually made with meat. I found this version to be very flavorful and creative and it had the Caribbean flavor I was expecting. I also got the pizza empanadita and destroyed that in a few minutes! Recently, they removed the pepperoni so that it is a more universal option. The coquito cupcake was just ok as I found it to be dry. Overall, the food was good and I will be back! read more

Mofongo is good but the filling is not puertorican or dominican flavor, not my mofongo go to forsure!

I'm so glad we tried this place because, this was one of the best puerto rican restaraunts I have ever been to. Extremely delicious, I couldnt stop saying "mmm" with every bite. They give you your food in a container that comes with a lid so if you dont finish you can just close your container and take your food home. The prices are fair for the portion sizes. Really REALLY great beni(pork) soft and tender as hell. We also tried the chicken and pizza empanada. Besides my home made pizza empanada, that was the best store bought pizza one I've ever had. So delicious and tastes like mozzarella sticks. I liked the chicken but I wished I had a side of garlic aioli to go with it. Overall, this place was clean, big inside, just an over all great experience and definitely will come back again. This is a must try! read more

Awesome food and very kind and helpful staff. The restaurant is clean and comfortable to enjoy your meal.

After moving from Queens, NY i am so glad to have found this place! Good Dominican food is hard to come across - at least after moving! It was a cold snowy afternoon, I saw that they were open, so I decided to give it a go. After seeing the pictures and reading the reviews of other fellow Yelper reviews, I knew the food was going to be delicious. My hubby ordered the Pernil rice bowl and I had to go with the chicken mofongo. The man working told me my order would be a few minutes, while my hubs was done right in front of us on the spot. I was super happy that my order was cooked right in the back, so you k knew the mashed plantains were fresh. I got all the toppings on mine and OMG i wish i could've finished this but my belly was super full half way through. For 10 bucks this is an awesome sized portion. The pernil bowl however, also good size was scarfed down in less than 5 minutes. YES, he did let me try it [but only one bite]. Both portions had a good amount of meat - I 100% will be back again. read more

This is my first time trying mofongo, so please take this with a grain of salt. While this place has a lot of potential, it didn't quite come together for me. Maybe my expectations were too high since I have heard amazing things about this place from friends. I ordered the pork mofongo while my fiancé had the steak mofongo. The first thing I noticed was that the mashed fried plantains on the bottom needed more seasoning. They were pretty bland on their own and kind of greasy. The pork in my dish was seasoned well but I wished it was more tender or had more fat instead of being a leaner cut of pork. My fiancé's steak was alright. I wished the cut of steak was more tender, but for ~$10, it's not exactly surprising. He asked for chimichurri on his steak, and it was a great choice. It added a nice flavor that my mofongo seemed to be missing. The portions were generous, especially the pork, which was enormous. I could only finish half of mine. Wait time wasn't too bad for us, contrary to the other reviews here. We waited about 10 minutes for our food, and that was only because the lady in front of us was ordering four mofongos at once. Prices are more than reasonable. Overall, the food was tasty enough to finish, but not something we would return for. read more

Stopped into a jam packed new local restaurant. Mofongo is one of my favorite all time dishes! The service was super fast and the staff was very friendly. The interior design is very contemporary and def has a hipster vibe to it. The menu is conveniently displayed on a few large flat screen tv's. The set up is similar to chipotle and they make everything there right in front of you. The only problem is trying to decide what to order!!! We split a pernil bowl and steak mofongo. Both were delicious and great portions! Will def be back soon! read more

Pork Mofongo - I'm always impressed when I can't tell exactly what is going on in the seasonings but they work. That happened here, but I'm not well-versed in Puerto Rican food to begin with. The pork! There are spices here that push pork to new heights. This is marinated and slow-cooked, so that each bite is both tender and full of flavor. If you haven't had it before, prepare yourself for something quite new from the corn in mofongo - it's a rich texture with an involved chew. The seasoned meat melds with the mellow flavors of the corn, and you get a dish worthy of naming your restaurant after. Fiesta Fries - There was a lot of depth to the meat in these, a slow-cooked coarse ground beef with a texture almost like a good sausage. Even the cheese sauce has quality ingredients and care put into it. You've never had nacho-fries quite like these, in a good way. This is a locally-owned business offering a signature dish that's likely to carry them across the country. read more

A popular eatery for roadside Puerto Rican cuisine. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the amount of meat in my order of shrimp mofongo. $14 for 5 pieces of shrimp & mashed plantains is outrageous. However, I might return to try other dishes because of the popularity of this establishment. Mofongo is located in nice section of rough-around-the-edges town. read more

We were super excited to try this restaurant. We ordered several different entrees off their menu for our office. Both avocado salads came without the chicken and the dressing. Some orders were completely missing. We called several times, but we never got a response. We even called the New Britain location to speak to the manager. We were informed by the employee that we can't speak to the manager and to figure it out on our own. Disappointed because both locations have the same owner. We were left disappointed, frustrated, and hungry. read more
