Been here several times for lunch and it is fantastic. All you can eat buffet for $11.00. Excellent fried chicken, and I also love their greens. Nice selection of salads and desserts. They appear to no longer serve catfish, as I have never seen it there for lunch. You can get your food quickly and there is plenty of parking. Very old school Mississippi. Recommended. read more

Pretty good soul food I mean whoever is in the back can throw down lol cause everyone was down for more! We got there for the lunch and it was packed, as usual. Very good selection of food many options to choose from. Staff very attentive and always cleaning the line so no worry about any mess you make on accident I hope lol. If you want some good home cooking then this is the place to be. I haven't been here since middle school which was years ago place hasn't changed a bit. Still talking about how good this food was three months later! Mama Hamil's is a Jackson, Mississippi institution! I came on the recommendation of many locals who spoke highly of this venerable restaurant and they weren't wrong! It is a buffet style place that still offers wait service. We had a large group and after paying for the kind of meal we waiting we were shown our tables and asked what we'd like to drink. So glad I got the sweet tea, which was amongst the best I've had in the South. The buffet options are plentiful and satisfying. We had a vegetarian in our group who left full and happy. I had a fried chicken breast, cornbread, greens, catfish, mac and cheese and red beans and rice. Good food makes for good feelings! read more

Convenience, location, sides from coleslaw, kale salad to turnips and mustard greens ... traditional southern sides. Meats include fried livers and gizzards, baked, bbq, and smothered chicken, ribs and catfish. Makes it real easy on everyone. $10 for lunch buffet including the drink is usually a pretty good price, but the quality of the food product is sub-par, in my opinion. The pulled pork was dry, the chicken was flavorless. The mac&cheese would have been better had they used Kraft! I was even disappointed with my tolls and cornbread. The ice cream was too crystallized, the banana pudding was too soupy, and the other desserts were just a poor attempt at baked goods. This place got good reviews from other Yelpers, so maybe I just hit this place at the wrong time. I will say the place was packed for lunch, and the atmosphere was nice. The staff was excellent and the young lady that was responsible for my table kept my sweet tea full the entire time. The dining area was kept clean. The men's restroom gets a B+. Overall, I have to say I won't be coming back, and would suggest you continue searching for an alternative, unless you are just looking for lots of food at a cheap price. read more

Pretty good chow. BBQ ribs n chicken were really flavorful but they close at 1400 for an hour so we ate whatever was on the bar at 1355.

I love this restaurant , the food is always good however I'm a bit disappointed in the line servers and cooks. One server failed to have his mask covering his nose and tried to argue that he had been doing it like that all the time and it was ok ( he did pull it up after I took his picture) several of the cook staff had theirs not covering their noses and a couple didnt even have them on at all. Thats just plain dangerous. On a positive note everyone of the table staff had theirs on properly so a thumbs up tho them. read more

Saturday Dec 14,2019 Went to mama Hamil's, The Ribs were not the best mainly fat, And less editable meat ( first time ever like this ) There awesome Fried chicken was a major problem. A Chicken Breast had a sharp piece of metal wire first looked at it looked like a cherry stem. Called waiter over he took it and later a young man came over. To are table and gave me a flimsy excuse what it was and worse offered nothing for my inconvenience. I could of broken my denture or worse, Is this the way a place says it's sorry ?????? Enjoyed going to Mama Hamil's restaurant today. Went at noon and place was packed. Nice surprise was a very short wait. Then On to the food. Tons of different salads great selection of vegetables some very tasty outstanding meats. All for the low piece of $11 tax included. Food was fresh. Staff working the tables very prompt. Suggestion...they sell their BBQ sauce also. Buy a case, keep it at home, and never buy another sauce! We use Mama Hamils sauce for all of our home BBQ sauce needs. So I was standing there at the buffet table, plastic plate in hand, and I just started laughing. Not a funny laugh, but the laugh when you realize: How could so much good food be here in one place. To begin, the place looks something like a converted church and from the outside does not look like anything special. Then you enter. You are immediately smacked in the face by the sweet smell of southern goodness. Something like slow cooked meats mixed with freshly baked breads and topped off with veggies stewed in lard and other mystery goodness. Now, I did not get the opportunity to visit the original location and I know some people complained about the lack of a cozy/friendly atmosphere, but there was never a time where we did not feel welcome. Now lets get to the main event; the grub. Things we ate that were orgasmic explosions in our mouths: Ribs- fall off the bone delicious, some pieces didnt even have bones! We ate here one year ago and failed to review it then - guess we lost our minds because the food was so good! This year as we were driving home from Kentucky to Texas we spent quite some time on the internet trying to locate this place. We could not remember the name and again I did not review it last year. Obviously we did finally locate it and Much to our surprise and might I add sadness and happiness - they are closed on Sunday's - good for them!!! Not so good for us - lol.
