We went to this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday evening for a birthday celebration. The ambience was lovely with a beautiful view of the harbor. The menu was fairly limited but we were confident that we would have enough to choose from. After taking our drink order the waiter read off a long list of menu items that they were out of. Everything we planned to order was on the list. I finally chose two appetizers and no entree. The waiter left but came back to tell me that they were also out of one of the appetizers I ordered. There was nothing else on the menu that I felt comfortable with but I ordered something anyway. Both items were tasteless. My husband ordered a pork chop medium rare. It was tasty but clearly well done. Even the waiter agreed it was overcooked but did not offer to bring it back to the kitchen and bring a new one. No one came out to apologize and we didn't receive an offer of a discount. They did have the dessert we ordered (for my birthday) but it was also tasteless. What a disappointment. Omg! Here's the story. We had a wonderful meal and drinks at the Chart House, then decided to walk though downtown Beach street with a stop, AT THE BAR, at moms poo poo's. At the hostess station we could see half the restaurant was actually empty, but we only want a drink, at the equally empty bar. We, 4 of us, were informed of a 25min wait...at the empty bar...with an actual saddle up style of bar. After some discussion between our party, we thought we would give it a few minutes. there was nobody waiting inside or out BTW, after a about 15 min I approached the hostess stand, again, nobody waiting ...anywhere, and was greeted with an immediate it will be soon, about 10 more minutes " we have some reservations that are late". Again, half of the restaurant was empty, but I'm only interested in a drink at the bar. I asked for the manager, not as a Karen to complain, but to only ensure we are clear that we are interested only in a drink at the completely empty bar. As the hostess sought out the the manager, 20 yards straight down the pathway at the opposite end from the hostess station, it was clear the hostess was briefing the manager as they walked directly towards me. I was confronted by the manager with " are you the person that asked for a manager". I replied, yes and when we checked in at the hostess station we were clear that all we wanted was a "DRINK AT THE BAR". She very condescendingly informed me that they serve food at the bar and we would have to wait. Again I cannot stress enough that there was "NOBODY" and I mean nobody at the bar to include the seating with tables across from the actual bar! I informed her that I have all the information I needed, and left. No scene, no abuse, no show of my arse. Just a simple "we're out". After walking to McK's and sitting the bar for a drink, I decided to share my experience to maybe save someone reading this review, a half hour of time and clearly a crew that has only disdain for guest that just wants to have a drink from the bar. I started with the beet salad with grapefruit dressing and it was very yummy but could have had more beets and dressing... the rice balls with marinara sauce was perfect in texture and taste. The cauliflower was sweet and Spicy but not my fav because not much went into preparing or presentation. The chicken sandwich was the usual crispy and fries normal. Please do not go here. The service was terrible. Our food took forever, there were many mistakes with the food, and our server Joshua was not apologetic at all. Someone in our party got charged $90 extra dollars after already being charged. And another person in our party fell asleep because the service was taking so long. The food was phenomenal. I grew up in the Daytona area and although I don't get back there much anymore, this has got to be one of, if not the best, restaurants in the area now. Excellently selected travel themed atmosphere / decor (my father called it "funky") the food was fabulous and not outrageously priced. We drove 20 miles because Mama Foo Foo featured Charred Octopus, my husband's favorite. We were very excited about our special dinner and made reservations to make sure we got in. Once we were given our menus, we immediately looked for the Charred Octopus, as it was shown on the online menu. When the waiter came, we asked why the Charred Octopus was not shown on the menu. He said, "We are taking that off the menu, but there may be a 5 or 6 left". He came back and said that there was no more Octopus. Disappointed, we asked for a couple of more minutes to decide on what else we would order. We decided on Mussels & Frites (which were great), Aranchini, Burrato, Fig & Sour Dough, and a large salad. It was a delightful and filling dinner. I went to the restroom and they had Octopusses on the wall. Their front door was a big Octopus Tentacle and they had a big portrait of a lady with Octopus hair. This was their whole theme, yet they didn't serve Octopus. We mentioned that if they weren't serving Octopus anymore, perhaps they should not have it on the online menu. The hostesses agreed. We were polite about it but felt we should mention it. The decor and service was impecable. The menus for drinks was two pages but the food was as limited. The small plates are the appetizers. I was expecting to Asian or seafood but there was not much. The mussels are fried, I wanted order skid or octopus which is the business picture but they had none. We ordered the lamb and beef raw small plate. It wasn't my taste but maybe good for someone else. The dinner was good but it could have had better taste than just your side plate horseradish. Our friends ordered the salmon and Ziti. We started with the chicken satay and large salad. Both were very nice and just enough for all of us. We got our main course and the presentation for each was nice and very large. Everyone loved their dish. My wife said that her scampi was the best she ever had. My black cod was very tasty and filling. The fish was similar to black sea bass. Very tender. The service was fantastic. They kept the drinks coming and the table clear of used dishes. Everyone was very courteous and pleasant. The location is right on the water with the dock right outside. Nice looking at the big yachts. This is a really nice restaurant with great food. We were thinking about having a couple more cocktails and an app but couldn't take the seats any longer and left after just 1 drink (certainly not like us). I truly felt I "wore out" my welcome. The bar stools are the same as at the ones at the Ormond Garage and we don't go there anymore either. Bartender was great and the drinks were unique and tasty (although a little pricey).
