Visiting from San Francisco and stumbled upon Mama Eat--what a gem! This place absolutely blew me away. The food was rich, authentic, and bursting with flavor. I had the gluten-free carbonara and it was hands-down one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had (and that's saying a lot coming from the Bay Area foodie scene!). The service was warm and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home. You can really tell they care about the quality and experience. Bonus points for a great wine selection and cozy atmosphere. If you're in Rome, do not miss this spot--especially if you're gluten-free or traveling with dietary restrictions. Mama Eat nails it! Can't wait to come back.

During my May 2024 trip to Rome, I just HAD to visit Mama Eat. I had a great experience at their Milan location, the last time I was in Italy. Mama Eat as a whole has a couple of restaurants, alongside their two in Rome, they have locations in Napoli, Firenze and Milano. This is one of their two locations in the city, on Borgo Pio. It's located just over a kilometre from the Vatican, so could be a spot for lunch when visiting the world's smallest country. This particular location is fairly small and the inside only had a couple of tables, It wasn't overly busy, although I didn't visit at a mealtime and just fancied a late lunch. The whole menu can be made gluten-free upon request (In a 100% gluten-free kitchen area - a coeliac's dream) and the menu was extensive too, going beyond just pizza and pasta. On this occasion, I opted for the gluten-free Margherita pizza, simple yet delicious, which made me love the Mama Eat brand on my trip to Milan, my guest went for the gluten-free Caesar salad. The staff member who served me seemed friendly, she did not speak English but she tried her best to communicate with me using a Google Translate app. She still tried her best to deliver the best service possible despite the language barrier as I also do not speak Italian (yet!) My pizza was really good, and probably the best I had during my trip to Rome. The base and toppings were fresh and tasty. I also tried some of my guest's salad, again it was fresh and I've never seen gluten-free croutons like it, they weren't just edible, they tasted good! We also ordered some fries for our table, but our server ended up forgetting to put them through, we didn't end up getting charged for them - again this was likely down to the language barrier and she must have prioritised the main courses which is fine. The prices were also great value too, sure this place is a little out of the way, especially if heading from the Colosseum / Trevi Fountain but it's sure worth the trip to not only save some money but get a great meal in a place that certainly isn't a tourist trap. I do think the size of the restaurant is a little limiting as it would be very difficult to get a table at peak times, but the food is good, the staff are kind and the gluten-free choices are exciting. 4*

We absolutely LOVED this place. Of every place we have ever been in our travels, we have never had a menu completely gluten and lactose free. We ate here 4 times in the 2.5 days we were there! Some of the things we ordered included: Arancini appetizer balls, the fried pizza dough, the fried mini pizzas, the Arancino log stuffed with ragu, the croquette log (all appetizers). For main courses, we ordered the carbonara (which was to DIE FOR!) and we ordered pizzas (the diavola add sausage). I finally had the amazing gluten free pizza that I've been waiting for while in Italy. For dessert, we had the fried mini donuts with lactose free Nutella and we had the tiramisu and pistachio cream tiramisu. The tiramisu was AMAZING! My husband (who eats dairy) said this tiramisu was better than regular ones he's had. This place is for EVERYONE. For the celiacs and gluten free people, it's a diamond.

I ate at Mama Eat in Milan and it was the best pizza i have ever had. In Rome for the day i just had to try their pizza again... wow simply the best, my colleague who is not celiac said she wouldn't have known it was gf. Good news this specific location is 100 % gf so zero risk of contamination. I was also tempted by their pistachio tiramisu to go as i was full, not only is it gf but dairy free and it is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!!!

Rome has been so good to me in terms of accommodating my allergy. This is the 3rd dedicated gluten free eater I've been to in the week I've been here. The food is amazing. The mini pizza starters was great. Makes me wonder what their pizza is like. The pasta dish I wasn't too much of a fan it was too salty for me. Despite that I would definitely come back. The gluten free beer I need to go home with. This beer took me back pre-celiac days when I studied abroad in Belgium it hit me like a ton of breaks. It was good. I can't remember what beer exactly but wow the way your taste buds can break a memory from so long ago is astonishing. As I'm typing this not sure I'll make it for dessert but we shall see.

Delicious and everything is made gluten free. I thought you had to specify when ordering, but everything is made gluten free. I enjoyed the fried rice balls and carbonara. Delicious, I saved the extras and they kept well! Service was great and fast! Casual ambiance, but could make a classy date night.

Searched out this place based on the gluten free menu. We arrived and no one was in the place on a Sat evening about 7:30. Perhaps a little early for Italians. The waiter greeted us and waived us in. We found he was from Kenya... where my daughter and son in law currently live. They chatted in Kiswahili. We ordered. Dinner arrived quickly. We had two gluten free dinners, two regular dinners. All were delicious! We ordered a dessert... and found an error when they brought it. They had topped it with Salt rather than sugar. We ate it anyway. We told the waiter and they made us a new one to take home. Great service! We have 1 more day in Rome... I see another meal in my future at your cute little restaurant!!

We got panuozzo sasiccia & friarielli and devorator. We liked the sandwiches I would say it's on the price side though. We also got an orange Fanta which was delicious as usual.

HANDS DOWN BEST GLUTEN FREE PIZZA ON THE PLANET!!!!!! Might be best pizza on the planet even if you eat gluten! It was so good I almost cried and for the first time ever I'm writing this review while still in the restaurant. The crust is absolutely wonderful....chewy soft delicious goodness that has escaped me since having to eat gluten free. I actually ate a chewy delicious crust rather than thin crunchy so so crust. I am so sad to leave Italy and not be able to eat this again. I will have dreams of this pizza! In the meantime for gluten free folks...this pizza is 100 out of 10, and I can't recommend it more highly. My husband who is not gluten free said it was the best pizza he had ever had as well. Pretty high compliment for a gluten eater! Also they have 4 options for gluten free beer and are more than willing to accommodate dietary restrictions, just ask. It's so important to them it's listed on the menu. Thank you Mama Eat for the best gluten free pizza, I know it will never be topped and just so glad I got to enjoy!!!

Review # 1200 After…read moresome shopping on the Via cola Di Riemzo, we were ready for lunch. This spot was a Yelp find. We arrived just before they opened at 12:30. We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

I had possibly the most amazing chick food pasta a girl could imagine. Girls know what girl food is. The pasta in Italy is just better -obviously. But then put all sorts of girl flavors on it like Lemon and Orange, just lightly enough, zest with a small hint of cheese-..... omgosh. Yes, yes, and yes. Need my hubs to replicate at home. He is going to be busy trying to perfect this. Tagliatelle with orange and lemon parmesan. This was it. It was the best. Everything else we ordered was amazing as well. Wait outside. They don't have a sign telling you to wait, no server telling you to wait. You wait out there, wondering if you're in the right place, but then people stand behind you and you're like - oh! I'm here. This is the place. There are possibly 4 tables inside. It's small. I read about them being rude- we did not have that problem. In fact, they made a mistake and we kindly let them know we ordered something else- they corrected it and were nice about it.

So happy we did as this place definitely delivers. There is seriously like 8 tables in the dining room so expect a wait in line but trust me, it's worth it. We waited outside for about 25 minutes. They do take your order while in line so the wait for food (once you do get a table) is abbreviated. Out of the world pastas and the pistachio tiramisu is seriously out of this world. Inexpensive table wine rounds out a great meal. This is the type of place I love to go to. It's quaint, zero pretense and delivers on its food. A great find!
