Crab legs so DELISH we ordered 2 nights in a row. The butter could be better though, you can taste it isn't the highest quality. The first night, we got crab legs, scallops, and peel shrimp. The scallops were over cooked, wouldn't get those again. The shrimp were also a little over cooked, but I expected that for takeout I guess. Crab legs were still good though!!! The second night, we got the deep fried shrimp which had tons of flavor and the breading was really good. We got crab legs again of course! Then we also got fries with our order which weren't seasoned well and takeout fries never end up the best. Onion rings were very good though and still were a little crispy upon arrival to the house. My wife and I came here with a larger group for dinner. It was getting late on a Wednesday evening and we were in search of a place to get really good seafood without waiting for 3 hours or the place being understaffed. I called Mama Easley's and they indicated they would have some availability if we could arrive in a short amount of time. Our group headed on down to the Timbuk II plaza where Mama Easley's restaurant sits tucked in the back corner. When we arrived we had a half hour wait. It was a nice evening and so we headed outside to lawn chairs in front of the restaurant. 30 minutes later we were inside, placing our orders, and then seated. I ended up ordering the fried green tomatoes appetizer. It looked really good from previous pictures and it did not disappoint. The tomatoes were sliced thick and then friend crispy. The toppings of onion, diced tomato, bacon, and an aioli all complimented the crunchiness of the fried tomato. For dinner I ordered the special, fried soft shell crab sandwich! I love good soft shell crab and I feel like it is fairly hard to find fresh/good sandwiches. I don't trust places that have this on their menu all year long. Mama Easley's "specials" were a handwritten piece of paper posted next to the cash register. The sandwich ended up being excellent, was really happy with the flavor, crunch, and size of the sandwich. Overall this was a really good place to come for seafood. Mama Easley's provides more of the southern backcountry seafood prep which scratched a seafood itch for our group. Ok, so totally stumbled across this awesome spot and was able to chat with the owner, Vinny for awhile while watching March madness! First, great menu. Crowd pleasers for all. Second, cute spot, not too big, not too small and super DOG FRIENDLY!! Vinny has owned for 10 years. COVID took it's toll, but he has been able to upgrade equipment and keep people employed, looking forward to this coming 2021 season. Go here and support them!! Fast, attentive service and tasty food. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon during our stay in Duck for Thanksgiving week. We planned to stroll around Tim Buck ll so Mama Easley's was a good choice. The indoor seating area was full except for a high top in the corner for four. Luckily it was big enough for my small family. Tables were stocked with everything we might need: plastic utensils, paper towels, wet wipes, condiments. We looked at the menu pretty quickly and my husband went to the counter to place our orders. Another fortunate moment because he got our orders placed before the other three parties that were there and seated before us. Within 10 minutes our food arrived at our table (a pound of snow crab legs, fried shrimp basket, fish and chips and a pound of steamed shrimp). We helped ourselves to the soda dispenser (Pepsi products only) and we were done eating within 20min. Our food was fresh out the the fryer/steamer and our server was very attentive even though he was super busy (he looked like the only person in the restaurant). While vacationing in OBX, we went looking for some fresh quality seafood and that's exactly what we found at Mama Easley's. We ordered the calamari, 1lb shrimp, 1lb snow crab legs, and some hush puppies to top it off. The shrimp and crab legs were both fresh and simply prepared. The calamari was tasty and not over battered. The shrimp & crab were both fresh and simply prepared (I preferred having the shrimp simply seasoned and not fried). A cool little find on our weekend trip to the OBX. We were looking for a non-chain, non-fast food lunch spot in the mid-afternoon (like 3PM ish) on a Saturday - definitely off peak which was nice. Found the place, where else???, doing a Yelp search. Reviews were great, food pics looked good and the menu was my kinda menu - LOADS of deep fried goodness! Lol. I wanted to try it alllllllll but of course had to reign it in. I really wanted to try the fried green tomatoes. And the wings. And the po boy! Clam strips yum!! Beer battered fish and chips, SAY WHAT?!! But I settled on the fried jumbo shrimp basket with SAY IT WITH ME "french fries cooked crispy"! He had the 1 lb snow crab legs from the Steamers menu. DEEEEEEEEEEE-LISHHHHHHH!! The fried jumbo shrimp - AHmazing! The food came out piping hot like it had JUST come out of the deep fryer 30 seconds before! The shrimps were coated in a housemade concoction - brilliantly seasoned and crispy crunchy but not overly thick so you could actually taste the shrimps and not just the breading. The fries were cooked perfectly crispy and seasoned just so. The basket comes with their delish remoulade sauce - I also asked for a side of tartar sauce and also dipped into the cocktail sauce provided on the table. Choices, choices. The king crab legs were fresh and delicious dipped into the drawn melted butter. YUM! The ambience was perfect - a small, quaint, cool, kick back place - clean, colorful and fun. A couple small rooms and a few coveted outside tables overlooking a pond. Service was excellent. Granted we came off peak but the servers were friendly and responsive and the food arrived promptly. Prices aren't break the bank but also not fast food bargain basement. Given the taste, serving sizes and high quality of what we got, the value was there. Definitely would be one of my Go-To's if this place were here in town! Highly recommend! PS The entrance to this place is hard to find in the maze of Timbuk II buildings. It's tucked inside the white building in the back right corner of the shopping village and to the right of the Water Sports place. The signs are barely visible. The door to this place is in the middle of that building up the stairs and to the left of the popcorn place (!!YUM!! My family and I were craving some fresh sea food for lunch and stopped into Mama Easley's on our trip to Corolla. We sat outside despite it being 90 degrees out, but had enough shade from umbrellas to keep us cool! The patio overlooks the bay and a mini golf course, which offer a quaint atmosphere. Our order was a few cold beers, snow crab legs, shrimp, calamari, and hush puppies. All hit the spot!! My favorite was the snow crab legs , which can sometimes be difficult to eat, but Mama Easley's preparation made it so easy and all the crab meat basically fell out of the shell! We chose this place for lunch because of a high Yelp rating, but it was kind of a letdown. We got burgers, fish & chips, onion rings and hush puppies. Burgers and fries were EXCELLENT, among the best in the area. But the fish and the onion rings were dripping with oil. We expected deep-fried so-bad-for-you-but-so-good, but the fish really put my daughter off. Staff was super nice & friendly. So here's the thing, the food is awesome. However, the appetizers come out at the same time as the main courses there is no separation. So either your appetizer gets cold while you eat your main dish, or your main dish gets cold while you eat appetizers. So since you counter order, I strongly recommend ordering your appetizer, and then go order your main dish after the appetizers get there. Onto the food, how do you order the fried green tomatoes they are awesome. We both got baskets, my wife got the scallop basket, I got the fried oyster basket. Both of us got hush puppies as our side. The shellfish was amazingly tender and succulent, The hush puppies are awesome. Indoor and outdoor dining, the setting is funky and a lot of fun. Ummm... Wow. I don't know what to say. I wasn't sure whether to send this story to the local news or post on here. As you can see, I chose the latter. I took my family (just my kids, my wife left me due to my pokemon collection) here for some good ole seafood (i have liked seafood ever since I was a little boy and my father took me fishing to get away from the house due to my brother having tuberculosis (it was 1999)). while i was here, a worker (named james) noticed something peculiar: my son choking. i was not paying attention due to my aforementioned pokemon addiction (i was playing pokemon go and discovered this area had a tremendous list of characters to collect). james, being a phenomenal server, ripped off his backwards 76ers hat, and saved my son. i began to sob. i realized my family's proclivity towards bad parenting had grasped me. i was my father and mother. isn't it funny how we repeat the same mistakes we promise to forego? i glanced up, staring james in the face, feeling the shame of bad parenting. james calmed me down, his beautiful brown eyes calmed me down. i began to cry again, this time not with sadness, but forgiveness at my inner tranquility. overall, the food was amazing and james was terrific. read more

The food was ok. My husband said the Fish and chips was great and our young son ate his whole cheeseburger- the shrimp po boy batter just fell off the shrimp and was not an even coating. My daughter said the same about her fried shrimp. The sweet tea was very watered down and tasted old. It was not a cheap meal (almost $80 with a tip!) and since it's primarily self serve- I'm not sure why they ask you to tip? Overall- I didn't feel it was great or worth $80. This place was very good! The hush puppies are excellent and the fried mahi was cooked perfectly. I did give a 4 because the oysters were friend pretty hard; but everything else was cooked very nicely. You order your own food and it's brought out to you. Staff is friendly and helpful but do not expect a full service experience. We sat outside and there was a sunscreen up so it made it nice to be able to enjoy the gorgeous evening without having the sun right in our faces. Would definitely return! read more

Wow wow wow I think I found the best fried seafood on the Outer Banks!!! And it is delicious served immediately in the restaurant as well as by takeout. We tried an impressive sampling of fried shrimp, fish, and oyster baskets with sweet potato tots, onion rings, and fries, as well as some steamer clams and hush puppies on the side, and man did all of them deliver! We had to do a group vote to even come to a recommendation because they were all so good! In the end, the fried oyster basket and hush puppies took the #1 spot, but I am personally still dreaming of the melt-in-your-mouth sweet potato tots that taste like fluffy little pillows of cinnamon-y goodness. We already can't wait to come back and double down on fried oysters again soon! read more

Great food, fast service. You have to order and pay at the register before food is served and I see that as a drawback

Staff is not friendly. No guidance on their ordering procedures. No COVID measures taken regarding menus or tables. Food is good. Manager (?) likes to talk with the college kids, to the point where he ignores everyone else. FYI: You order at the cash register, then grab a table. They bring you your food. The laminated menus are stacked at the register- don't wipe them down in between customers and no wipes for you to do it yourself. We never saw anyone wipe down tables or chairs after customers left. They do have a bottle of sanitizer by the register. They head guy talked to a group of college kids about his artwork. Our food delivery was delayed, as was our check because of it. (He actually forgot our check and doggie bag; we had to go find him to get them. Said he'd forgotten. At that point we were the only customers in the restaurant.) read more

***Update: 5/18/2019 - We came back this year on our way in for our family vacation, and the food was still delicious (of course). This time around I had the The Hidden Jack burger and fries. So good! A guy told it would be the best burger I ever had, and I'll just say, "it's a good burger!" Not the best I ever had, but it's definitely one that I did enjoy. The bread was good and the meat was good too! I think that I should've gotten it without the lettuce and tomato, and then I would've been able to enjoy it more. With that said, I still enjoyed it! The fries were on point too! They reminded me of how "Cookout's Cajun French Fries" used to taste! Watch out Cookout because these fries will give you a run for your money. I also tried one of my son's chicken nuggets, and man oh man! They were breaded perfectly and was fresh and hot! Finally, there's a dipping sauce that came with my husband's platter, and I ate it with my food! That dipping sauce had a bit of a kick to it, so good! I'll definitely return again, and I highly recommend checking this place out when you're in town. The seafood here was delicious! Although, a bit small, I totally enjoyed the fried scallops. For the price, there should be larger sized scallops or more scallops. I felt like I was eating little nuggets.The scallops look larger than they really were in my photos because, the seafood breader puffed them up. However, as soon as you bite, it's all air and then the meat. That was a bit disappointing and a let down because, they tasted good. I expect to have more seafood than fries or a good balance of them both, and it just feels like a bit of a rip off. The fried shrimp was also pretty tasty. Everything was seasoned well, and that's something that doesn't happen often with most seafood restaurants. They're usually not seasoned enough. I liked the coleslaw, but it was super small. Everything looked more delicious in person, and their website doesn't do the food justice in my opinion. My cousins really wanted to try the food here, but if I had to based on what I saw on the website, I'd probably pass. Anyway, now that I know the food is good, I'd probably come back in the future. Mama Easleys is a yearly must for my family when we stay in Whalehead. Their fried anything does not disappoint, as well as the remoulade and they have good portion sizes. Their takeout always takes longer than they say so I can imagine the wait if you eat in is also a bit long. This year I opted for crab legs and was surprised at the decent MP $24 per pound. They were sweet but slightly over done (some were sticking to the shells) but for the most part, delicious and would recommend. read more
