2nd time: We ordered a side of cha gio and the Mam #3 combo. The cha gio was perfectly crispy, I really must say shatteringly crispy as only rice paper can be when done right (other restaurants use the wheat version which is inferior), the stuffing was tasty and without the taro fillers I find elsewhere. I loved the mustard green soup just like the way we made at home in the old country. The greens crisp tender, the broth slightly sweet and savory. The fried tofu with the crispy pork bits sits a pool of sauce exemplifies part of what is great about traditional Viet cooking: heavy on plant based food while the animal products is meant heighten the flavor. Finally the shrimp and pork caramel dish compliments the soup and the tofu for even more flavor and texture of the shrimp peel (totally edible). Mam Kitchen is the only restaurant where I want to keep eating even when I am full. I am coming back for the Mam Oc (shellfish). read more

Ambiance/Environment: They have a medium sized space with a good amount of indoor seating. No outdoor seating. I love the decor. It definitely represents a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. Service: Our server was nice, though we weren't checked on or received water refills. I ordered Thai Green Curry Shrimp w/ rice. The server came back to ask me if I wanted to order another dish bc they ran out of ingredients for this specific dish. I decided on another rice dish. She came back again and ask if I wanted the original dish I ordered bc they actually do have the ingredients. There seems to be a lot of back-n-forth or miscommunication. Food: I settled for the Thai Green Curry Shrimp w/ rice dish. The flavors of the shrimp were nice and smoky. Just wish there was more shrimp. I thought the rice tasted okay. This restaurant is located near the H Mart area in Garden Grove, which is convenient and easy to find. The space has a Central Vietnam vibe cute, tidy, and very clean. Some of the dishes brought me back to Hội An, especially the more traditional items. The bánh bèo was Hội A style and the highlight of our meal. The crispy pork skin was delicious, and the fish sauce was well balanced and complemented the dish nicely. We also tried the bún bò Huế . Tried this place again and all foods was still flavored way too sweet for my family's liking. Braised pork and braised pork belly meat is worth going for. Gave the sweet and sour catfish soup another chance because I really like the veggies they put in it but the soup is just way too sweet to enjoy. The mung bean Pennyworth drink tasted old and they didn't stiff the mung bean where you could taste the grit/grain so it was harsh on the throat. We didn't touch it after tasting. Also wished they would write down order or repeat back the order. The server only took order by ear and originally we asked for braised pork belly with shrimp but he gave us braised pork belly and catfish instead. When we brought it up, like last time instead of owning up, he only ask if we want to order it additionally. (This similarly happened last time too). This time we was passing by so we just taking a chance and hoping maybe it won't be so bad and keeping our finger crossing. Inside it's decoration with nice, warm Hoi An or Huế stylish. Services are very friendly, polite and fast. There are special dinner combo menu. The price is very reasonable, $29 for 3 items. We pick #1 and decided to order extra items just for $6 - $8 per item. Food came out very fast and unbelievable large portion comparing to many restaurants around here. Even the extra items were large portion too. Canh chua came with warmer and taste good. Faifoo is now Mam Kitchen (is wrongly called Mam Restaurant on Yelp) as it recently had a name and menu change. Mam means platters of food and you have 5 options to choose from, with each platter containing a pot of rice, a soup, a veggie or tofu dish, and a protein dish. I chose Mam #2, which came with crispy tofu, pork belly kho, and a squash and veggie soup, all for $28. Each Mam (or platter) is preset, and they said no substitutions but you can order additional dishes. They also kept 2/3 of the old Faifoo menu so their popular dishes are still on the menu like banh beo, Mi Quang, bun Bo Hue etc. They also slightly remodeled so I love this new Mam Kitchen concept. read more

Rude owner. We always try to support new restaurants, so I brought my family (four people, including two elderly relatives who eat very small portions). I explained to the waitress that one family member was just there to hang out and I planned to start with one meal (which came with three dishes) and possibly order more depending on how the food was. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The canh/soup was bland, the salad and meat didn't complement each other, and overall the dishes lacked flavor. Because of that, we decided not to order additional food. We still finished what we had, paid, and even left a tip. What really ruined the experience was the attitude. From the moment we ordered lightly, I noticed the waitress speaking with the owner, and both of them glaring at our table. The restaurant was not busy at all (only two tables were seated), so it was very noticeable. After we paid and left, the owner came outside and actually threw "muối gạo" at us, which was a gesture meant to imply our family was bad luck. That is shockingly unprofessional and disrespectful. As a new restaurant, one would expect at least friendliness and good service to encourage customers to return. Instead, we experienced tasteless food, hostile looks, and a very rude gesture from the owner. Needless to say, we will not be coming back. Not recommended. read more
