located in the raval district, this is the locals tapas bar, where the staff only speaks spanish and serves up very traditional fare.
we decided to have lunch here (though it felt more like breakfast/brunch since it was our first meal of the day but jetlag prevented us from waking up sooner). my friend from the states had highly recommended coming here, so we didn't hesitate to walk in and snag a table for two. it was pretty empty at 13.30 so we had the place to ourselves for a little bit before other customers walked in.
i ordered a dish that consisted of scrambled eggs, green onions, and leeks for €9. although it was called something else, it tasted just like a veggie omelet! great way for me to start my way.
hubby ordered a dish with pork chops, sausage and chickpeas for €9,80...interesting combination! i liked the mediterranean influence here. i don't eat pork or sausage, so i didn't touch those, but i tried some of the chickpeas and they were quite tasty as they were grilled with some light seasonings.
i also ordered a plate of manchego cheese for €4,20, very traditional spanish cheese, but it didn't come until the very end. too bad, since i was planning to have the cheese with my eggs! nevertheless, the cheese was creamy and very savory, and made for a nice finish to a scrumptious meal.
service was pretty standard, but a bit of a challenge for us only b/c we didn't speak spanish. even the word for "check" in spanish was not understood by the waitress so i ended up making a shape of a rectangle with my hands to signal "check please." she got that one!
although we had some trouble communicating, we really enjoyed the food at this locals tapas bar and wouldn't hesitate to come back. i'll definitely have to polish up on my spanish before my return visit! read more
