I've been to mallards a few times now and always is amazing! Our usual go to is the shrimp boil for two. This shrimp boil is some of the best in Minnesota that I've had! We've brought countless friends here to try it and it's a heafty feat! You get around 40 to 50 pieces of shrimp, around 10 things of potatoes, six things of corn, and sausage too... it's humongous. You really get your moneys worth! If I'm being honest I haven't tried anything else here but I can assume it's equally amazing! I'm really looking forward to coming back here in the summer and enjoying this on their outdoor patio. But so far really love mallards and will always recommend it as it go to spot for anything seafood related! At our most recent stop our waiter was kind gave us lots of recommendations and was quick to refill our drinks or ask if we needed anything throughout our entire experience. This goes for each time we've been here, the service has always been wonderful. I find it this location really unique and it sits on upscale while also being able to be casual. Located within a apartment complex. Clean and modern design. There's outside seating but chose to sit in doors as it was a beautiful day but very windy. The best thing I ate was the bang bang shrimp taco. Got it during happy hour. Shrimp was crispy and saucy. Had a nice lil spice to it. The crab cake was thin but still good. my son enjoyed his smash burger, the Tennessee spicy chicken sandwich was good but a little dry. Cajun shrimp with creamy corn risotto was ok, was t expecting so much risotto. The shrimp was cooked to perfection but risotto was a big too heavy. Met my family and extended members here. There were fourteen of us. We did call ahead and asked about having a big party. They said they could do a large party and what a great choice. They handled our party efficiently and everything was timely. The service great and friendly. The food came out efficiently and warm. They have a great variety on the menu and a great alcoholic and nonalcoholic variety of drinks. Everyone had a wonderful time visiting and no one felt rushed. They had no problem dividing up the checks when time to settle up. I recommend this restaurant for large parties but there is plenty of space and recommend for small tables as well. Located on the river and easy to access it was a wonderful find and will keep this on our list of great places to meet up. read more

Love the basket of daily bread, brought to your table warm, multiple toppings, and probably with a prayer. Love the shrimp boil for two. Loved my surf and turf - perfectly prepared filet with NoLa shrimp. Love it all. Frequent patron. Ok, so why the 4 stars? I am so tired of restaurants charging 3-4% for using a credit card. I've also yet to see a digital cash payment option, anywhere. Are we supposed to carry couple of Hundos in cash everywhere. STOP THIS MADNESS. Mallards - for you specifically, your menu is a decent value already. Find the right price point and eliminate the CC surcharge. The CC fee is a pure cash/money grab. 4%? Enough! Do you know how aggravating it is for you to spin it as a "cash discount?" It definitely is in my head as I factor in the tip, and I'm a generous tipper. This practice has to take money from your servers overall. Food was great tonight as always and your servers hustle with a smiley. We had a terrible experience on our first visit here and my previous review reflected it. On this visit the service was spectacular, the food was great and the drinks were great as well. I ordered the chicken and waffles and asked for it be made as hot as possible and my wife ordered the peanut butter jalapeño smash burger. I got the berry jam old fashioned and she got the espresso martini. When the food came the extra hot sauce was on the side for my chicken. It was a good thing because if I used the whole cup I'd still be sweating. The burger was really good and the Cajun fries were tasty, but had obviously came out of the fryer a minute or two before the burger was done. Those drinks were great especially the old fashioned, I really appreciated the spirit forward cocktail with the fruit taking away the spirits burn. read more

I ordered the Thai Peanut Chicken Chop and it was kind of a mess. The sauces with it tasted like salt blocks, the chicken was really dry and the chop is basically cabbage. I like cabbage but it really needed something. Cole slaw dressing took care of that, so a fail on the "Thai" bit. The veggie fries are amazing; tempura batter, lightly fried, yummy green beans and carrot firs with a delicious dipping sauce. I could eat these every day. My takeaway is don't order That food from a non-Thai restaurant, lol. read more

First, I want to say that we've been to the Bloomington location twice before and wanted to try this location since it was more highly rated on Yelp. Our server Hannah was friendly and brought our food out quickly. That said, she seemed hurried, yet there were only 3 seated tables and a second server. The food was mediocre. We were there during happy hour and had the $5 crab cakes starter. It was mushy, lacked crab flavor and had no crispy texture. The main dish I ordered was New Orleans Salmon topped with crab, Cajun cream sauce, and mashed potatoes. The first 2-3 bites of the salmon tasted old, but as I ate more, it tasted fine. The sauce lacked seasoning and Cajun heat and flavor, but otherwise, the salmon was perfectly cooked. My wife had the Thai Peanut Chicken Salad. There was too much shredded cabbage and too little chicken in the bowl, which masked the flavor of its watered down dressing. I got a complimentary key lime pie for my birthday that was delicious! The meal was not bad, but the flavors, textures, and balance of dishes need to be improved upon! read more

We dined there for lunch. A little weirdly situated - you have to go up stairs (or elevator) and it looks like an apartment building. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. The place was totally empty which worried us a little since it was a Tuesday at noon. We all tried the sandwiches and the soups and they were top notch. The cranberry bread is something else. The wife and I came during Happy Hour, it our first time visiting the restaurant, and must say, this place is a gem! We sat on the patio, with a beautiful view of the Minnesota River. Our server, Matthew, was great, extremely attentive, super friendly, and offered some good menu suggestions. For HH we ordered sangrias, which were excellent. There were some discounted apps, the elote corn fritters and walleye bites - both were stellar. For dinner we shared the lobster roll and open faced meatloaf sandwich - both were really tasty. After we left, she and I both commented that we need to make Mallards one of our go-to spots. Overall it was a great experience, especially given how hit or miss going out to eat can be these days. Last time st the location I liked my food and friends ordered this same meal the amount of food they received seemed like so much more they both received a soup cup size of butter they both ate from it and shared some with others at the table and still able to have 2 to-go boxes food I thought on that night was so good and portions large That is why on way home one night after bragging this up to my husband we ordered this to go I am not going to consider temp of the food in this because even though we are less than3 miles from restaurant and tried to eat as as returning home I know too many people will just think took too long for us to get home or whatever. I almost think the person that took out to go order forgot to turn it in so our order just thrown together last minute. The size of the to go butter for 2 people to share for us was one container the size of a small side of salad dressing and again temperature aside the potatoes and corn under cooked the rest of order tasteless whole entire amount we received in the to go container that we brought home was less than what was in my friends who ordered at restaurant to go boxes after the both ate from it . Absolutely love this place, my wife and I return every month to try something different on the menu and we are never disappointed. It can be a bit noisy, it has more of a bar than restaurant atmosphere though it is family friendly. The food always comes out fast. Seafood is the specialty but the smash burgers are good too. The best were the Lobster Roll, Salmon New Orleans, Barramundi Rodrigo, Blackened Walleye Tacos, and Nashville Hot Tacos. The tap beer list is limited and the cocktails and desserts are underwhelming. The location is fun but small and they have a great patio. This effin place, I swear to god. We've given them 4 tries (because such a great location!) and it just has gotten progressively worse each time. This last visit was 75 min from order time to food arrival. Which, like, cool you're short staffed, hiring is hard right now. But WHERE IS THE G.D. MANAGER? Why is there no management presence when your staff is obviously dying (even though it was NOT busy) and patrons have gone from understanding and sympathetic, to indifferent, to just plain starving and pissed. But once we got past that, the food was amazing and the service was great. The restaurant is attached to an apartment building, but parking was readily available. The sea bass was perfectly done.
