I also ordered a teh tarik, which was nice. Nothing too remarkable; it tasted very authentic. Overall price point was very reasonable, and the service was prompt and friendly. I really like the feeling of this restaurant being somewhat tucked-away in a side alley -- makes it feel like a small escape from the relative bustle of the central Chinatown neighbourhood. Perhaps because I'm not of the origin of food that they serve, they palmed me off with 2 pieces of chicken breast meat, with a fork and spoon of course in order to add to the debacle. For those who know this dish swill understand that the best part is the leg meat, on the bone, that becomes somewhat gelatinous, and somewhat undercooked when it is immersed in ice quickly after cooking. The nasi lemak rice was particularly flavorful - full of coconut milk flavor, it had the right texture and basmati rice was used so the grains are drier and more discrete, giving a better mouthfeel. The keropok was crispy and tasted authentic, as did the ikan bills (fried anchovies) and fried chicken in the nasi lemak. The oxtail soup tasted exactly as it is in Malaysia with all the right spices and fried onions (which was FANTASTIC) and the meat was flavorful and 'fall off the bone' tender. Service was friendly if a little slow, but I think there's only 1 wait staff for all the patrons so be patient. All in all, a very pleasant experience and I would recommend coming here for a very inexpensive and authentic experience of Malaysian food in London. For Malaysians, definitely a must!

There is second floor with additional seating and the restrooms are on the third floor. I did not see an elevator so I don't think the restaurant is accessible. The stair style is circular and steep so anyone with mobility issues might have a problem. The menu includes lots of Malaysian favourites from laksa to beef rendang and curries. They have a healthy bar menu with happy hour menu that ends at 5. The food was rich and flavourful. The owner was friendly gracious and helpful with food recommendations if needed. Always cautious about tourist traps this place is not. We saw people of all different backgrounds and mainly locals stop by for dinner on a Wednesday night.

It's only been open for a month or so, but their booking system is up and running for parties of 4 or more, so I wouldn't waste any time get a booking in the diary! I came here with friends with Malaysian, Singaporean, and Australian backgrounds, so they all knew their way around the menu. Or perhaps it needs no explanation when you intend to order pretty much everything. But those who had previous experience with Malaysian cuisine definitely had greater appreciation for dishes like the achar pickles and rose milk. And who knew cities like Melbourne have laksa bars all over the place? Glad London is catching up. Needless to say, we ordered all 4 of the snacks. While perhaps the achar pickles stood out less for me as a newcomer to Malaysian cuisine, I can highly recommend the fenugreek crackers, gado gado salad, and especially the Malaysian fried chicken, of which we ordered two. You could literally see the specks of whole cumin on it, and the peanut sauce was divine. The chicken portion size is pretty generous, so you should probably split that snack between at least two. For the rest of the menu, we ordered the beef rendang and the assam fish curry from the rice plates, and shared two of the special laksa with additions of aubergine and soft boiled eggs. Again, from the newcomer to Malaysian cuisine perspective, I liked the beef rendang, but everyone else preferred the fish curry. We got the laksa with a mixture of rice and egg noodles and I think the egg is a must have. The flavours were great and it wasn't that spicy for those that are concerned. With all this, we enjoyed a bottle of the Riesling trocken, which was reasonably priced. I suppose it must be difficult to pair wines with Asian foods, but I suspect they've chosen a Riesling-heavy wine list because it's crisp and light, to let the flavours shine through. Overall, everything on the culinary side was excellent. On the admin side of things, they did take away our friend's chair without asking when he didn't arrive for the first hour, and we were unable to get it back as it had been given to a walk-in.
