    TLDR; TRY A DIFFERENT STORAGE SERVICE. A TON of missing items and damaged items. YOU MUST GET A PROTECTION PLAN and even so, do that at a risk because you have very little recourse for lost items. I had to store the entire contents of my one bedroom in storage temporarily (3+ months) and MakeSpace seemed like the bet option for price and protection. Nevertheless, I could not have imagined the problems that would then ensue. Pick-up - I scheduled my pick-up of items for the day before move-out in order to minimize additional costs for shelter. I was told they would be there between 8-11 am. I was given no number to communicate with anyone. They showed up at 1 pm. From there, they started moving all of the "bins" which were they few items I could have actually carried myself. At 2 pm, they received a call from their manager saying that because of the protests, they needed to leave asap. They left, without further discussion or information, and no proof of receipt of the items already taken or information of their return. I was expected to vacate my apartment the following day and therefore freaked out. I was forced to pay a find to my landlord and spent well over 2 hours trying to get in contact with someone for MakeSpace to schedule the next appointment. Follow up Appt - Again, the guys were expected to show up bt 8-11 and showed up at 12:30. Return of items - 3 months later - I scheduled my drop off of items. The Makespace team haphazardly and violently carried my items into my apartment. Damage - MOST of my wooden furniture had deep scratches and damages to it. I had wrapped my mattress in plastic wrap and received an upwrapped, ripped and disgusting mattress in return (to the extent I did not recogize it Missing items - I am missing, at best, 4K worth of things which includes and ENTIRE suitcase that was bright pink AND over 2 "bins." I have yet to receive any communication about these items and have no proof of what my items were before because the pictures and log is no longer available. The stress associated with my move and the miserable first experience was only outdone by the fact that so much is currently missing.

    I would not recommend MakeSpace storages. I was fine with paying extra for the mattress bag and a high cost (bigger unit so it wouldn't be packed) for them coming in to pick up and load everything in the truck. I even tipped them for moving it to the storage and later moving everything back to me. The guys who helped were nice but I am not sure at what point it was not handled with care... However clearly when items left my place, it was not handled with care at all. My dinning room chair came back with a broken leg! My box of expensive mugs and wine glasses with bubble wrap, all came back broken! I am pretty sure they are just throwing things around. You think paying this much, you would get better service. All my collectible Starbucks travel mugs are broken. Normally I wouldn't care but these are collectibles where I traveled to different places to get. 15 mugs were broken,3 wine glasses and a chair. I brought this up to the store manager who was as helpful and understanding as can be who basically told me that he was unable to do anything about my pricing, would i like to move into another size unit to restart the clock. My time is valuable however I don't want to feel like I am being taken advantage of. As a business person as a service provider and a consumer the fat in pricing is always up for negotiation. I had an understanding with one of the past regional manager that if the rent reached a point where I was motivated to move out then he would adjust it if the thing was reasonable. When I put the facts before Eric he basically told me that under no condition would he match the current market conditions and if that is what I was insisting on that I could take my stuff and go... I did. I was told by Eric the regional manager that "as your lease matures it will become more expensive". Eric was extraordinarily RUDE and unprofessional. He displayed that Cubesmart does not value my business and would rather loose it than treat me fairly.     I initially rented a 5' x 10' unit for $61 per month and with the mandatory insurance, it brought…read morethe cost up to $74.66 per month, but by the end of the first year, (the contract was initiated in April 2017), my rate had escalated to $85 per month. By the time that I was able to close out my unit in 2020, that monthly rent had increased to $101. I had tried calling periodically to negotiate a more reasonable rate, but was repeatedly told there was nothing that they could do - that the increase was wholly due to market rates rising. Family circumstances had demanded that I move suddenly from Pennsylvania to California and then work and family obligations prevented me from emptying my storage unit or changing its location until now. Had I been local, I would likely have tried to find a more reasonable unit. All of that being said, their digital contracts made navigating the enrollment swift and relatively painless and Bill, in particular, was very helpful in coordinating the move out with the moving service that I hired, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19. The key to my unit got lost over the years and so I also needed to provide authorization for them to cut the lock to the unit. He helped with all of this and I'm most grateful. I know that pricing is often controlled by corporate, but I also know that companies with stronger commitments to customer service tend to do a better job of empowering their managers and staff to work with customers.

    I tried to move some things into my new unit on the second floor, only to discover both elevators…read moreare currently (as of 4/23/26) out of order. From the loading dock I could read the sign for the closest elevator that says it's broken (2-3 weeks now). However, it was only after I had fully loaded a cart and pushed it down the hallway that I discovered the state of the second elevator. We could clearly see an employee was present in the office, but he was not proactive with informing us of the inaccessible state of the building. I could have been spared from loading and reloading the car with 150+ lbs of items. The employee said the second elevator just broke down recently, which could have been fine if it weren't for the fact that the first elevator was not serviced in a timely manner. To add insult to injury, he said one of the elevators was supposed to get fixed today "in the next couple hours" and that he'd call us once it got resolved. Well, it's past 10pm and that didn't happen. Without the elevators, we (and even the employee) are unable to access the second floor. There was a deconstructed couch just sitting by the loading dock, which seemed, potentially, like evidence of another customer who had an issue accessing their unit. Public Storage should notify customers if there are any issues that may impact accessibility to their products and services. To people considering this place, I highly advise taking your business elsewhere. Sure, it seems clean--but at what cost? Would I recommend this business to my enemy? I'm not that cruel.
