I met some girlfriends there for happy hour on a Thursday and it was wonderful! The food came out quickly. The staff was amazing. The ambience was fun and light and enjoyable! Everyone loved their dishes. I love, love, love, my mushroom quinoa. I loved my lamb chops. I had no complaints and my dog loved the bones afterwards! The downside is if you order to go, specifically the Parmesan garlic fries you may not get the same quantity that you do if you sit down and eat in the restaurant. Additionally, I posted a picture, but I don't think they put the fries on a napkin at all. I'm pretty sure my cholesterol went up 100 points just looking at all the grease in the bottom of my to go container. I don't know how that restaurant could send food out that way the french fries even looked really dark and filled with Greece compared to when I ordered them as a sit down. The hostess was wonderful and the hostess they took my order for it to go was also great. They seem to have a lot of fun working at that restaurant and the coworkers seem to get along really well which is a big plus to see the camaraderie and they do seem to help each other out. I love how it looks. I love the location, but they've got to do better on the to go quantities being consistent and properly draining all of that grease from the french fries before serving them into go containers. read more

I actually really liked this place and we went here on a whim! This was my first time here and my experience was really great! We sat at the bar and the bar tender gave us a lot of information before we decided what we were going to order for brunch and she told us all of the deals they had as well. She was very attentive and checked on us regularly. We ended up getting their bottomless mimosas and their bottomless brunch deal which was a great choice for three people! We got to pick three appetizers that kept coming out every time we finished and then we picked 3 entrees that kept coming out every time we finished. We got to share and taste everything amongst each other and we were full by the time we left! The mimosas were good as well and she kept them coming for sure! We did not have to keep asking her to fill our cups up because she was paying attention to it and refilled us every time we were done. I've given Makers Union two different tries, with the most recently time a week or two ago. This time the entrees my party and I had were much better than before. We had reservations for Saturday night and were seated quickly. The space is cute and has a sign with a mirror right at the front door which could be good for social media pictures. We ordered the Christmas themed drinks: Santa's forty mule, Grinch who stole makers, and the Merry margarita. All three were hits at our table, like everyone loved it. For appetizers, we got the spinach dip and wings (lemon garlic parm and buffalo) both were really good, but the spinach dip was the best. But definitely a small bowl of dip, wished it was bigger to match the amount of chips. For entrees, we got the fish and chips, steak and broccolini, and the frickin good fried chicken sandwich with the Nashville hot. While I didn't get a good picture of the entrees because we started eating quickly; but the fish and chips was a disappointment, it lacked flavor and was soggy. But the steak and fried chicken entrees were tasty and a hit at the table. No complaints at all so so good. The fries with Parmesan cheese and without were so good too. The Nashville hot added to the chicken sandwich made it so seasoned and good, something important is that it's not the saucy version of the Nashville hot. One word. Brunch. Straight forward. $49 for all you can eat on the brunch menu. I usually don't go for buffet or bottomless style dining because I am more of a snacker and don't eat a lot of food at once but this experience was great. I am by no means a foodie but everything is top tier. The French toast was my favorite by far. A close friend selected this location of Makers Union for her Bridal shower. It was a great choice! She coordinated the event with Ivan and he and the staff here did not disappoint! They were accomodating and made sure we had all we needed. I was the first to arrive and was able to find a parking spot in the front to unload the car with decorations. I was parked illegally, but the staff kept an eye on the car and even assisted me with unloading the materials. As soon as I got everything out, I moved my car to the parking garage and walked back to the restaurant. If you ever have to do this do not forget anything in your car. It was a trek and it was hot outside. I was able to decorate the tables pretty quickly with the items I was responsible for and they did not mind us not using their napkins. We selected the Family Style Unlimited Brunch. This was the best option! We were able to try so many of the menu items and each item was DELICIOUS! The place is decorated for the holidays! The lighting is great. The atmosphere is wonder. The bartender on staff was Orson. Great person. I ordered the fish n chips. The batter was still raw. Gooey and awful. I substituted their chili sweet potatoes for fry's. They were raw, still hard and inedible!! They were out of tarter sauce, after I protested fish with no tarter my waitress went next door and got a to go cup, To finish things off, my coleslaw was spoiled, far past its consume by date. fantastic spot for a group dinner by the Wharf! my friends and I stopped here for dinner while we were in the area. my two friends and I decided to split the tomahawk for two which was massive and cooked to perfection. it came with two sides, two salads and one dessert to share. the salads we were given was kind of weird? like it tasted like it was tossed in mayo and sugar almost with arugula. I don't know how else to describe it, but not my ideal salad choice. we didn't get to pick the salads either. the sides of sweet potatoes and green beans was delicious. green beans were super crunchy. sweet potatoes were kind of firm, but some were soft. might not have been cooked all the way for some of them. the steak was delicious and melt in yourouth deliciousness. we finished, but the bits near the end was just all fat and incredibly oily. so not very edible to say the least. our party was satisfied for sure. service was pretty prompt. there were some portions where we felt some people were a bit snippy, but our waitress was on top of it. One of the great happy hour spots at the Wharf. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. Drinks are also stellar. We ordered the fish tacos and nashville chicken which were hits. Service is why i had to take it down one star. Luckily we were not in a rush but the restaurant seems to staff one bartender who is responsible for happy hour and it's a lot on one person to handle the food and drink orders at a Friday night happy hour. Takeout Order Review: An overall OK experience at Makers Union. I thought I would have the opportunity to return again to give an updated review, however, I have not. My experience with their fish sandwich was mid tier. It wasn't bad, however, I did expect more from the seafood considering this is a pub located at The Wharf. I ate this fish sandwich immediately, outside in my car, so as far as temperature and quality is concerned I believe the experience would have been no different had I dined in. This seemed more like a corner deli fish sandwich and fries than a pub fish sandwich special. The customer service was OK and the interior design is beautiful. If Jonathan and Jay are behind the bar, you're in for a great time -- hands down some of the best bartenders in the city. They're personable, attentive, and every drink comes out perfectly made. We came for brunch and did the bottomless food option (which was absolutely worth it). They also offer bottomless drinks, but we'll save that for next time. Stopped in for happy hour with some family on a Wednesday and sadly it was not our normal dining experience. We decided to sit at the bar since it was just 3 of us. We were given water and menus pretty quickly, however after sitting around after about 10 minutes another group (much larger) that came in after us were quickly taken care of leaving us waiting. We dined on a Sunday for brunch, and although we did not have a reservation (which is preferred) they had open seating at the bar. We dined family style and tried so much - avocado toast, the Cesar salad, the spinach dip, chicken and waffles, crab benedict - and who knows what else. We liked most of it! Our server was also the bartender so service was spotty. Dessert came before some of our food. We had to request the bill three times. The food was okay. They can sometimes seat you right away or you can take any open seat at the bar if you want to take your chances. Lately, the bar has filled up fast when I've been there. It all depends. I'm a sucker for seafood and I'd seen the flyer sitting on the bar lately so I decided to go for it. Sea-Cuterie is what it's called and it has a lobster tail, oysters, lump crab cocktail, and shrimp. I can't abide oysters, so I asked if I could substitute something else and, of course, Brianna made it happen and I got more shrimp! My dining companion ordered Pasta Alfredo with Chicken (which was also available with shrimp) and it came with garlic bread I asked for a small piece of his garlic bread (for journalistic and quality control purposes only) and I honestly say it was the most delicious garlic bread I can remember having. Was told by the server after the fact your drinks were accidentally sent to another table. Yet you served the table next to us and didn't notice we were sitting for 30 mins without a beverage. Then comes out with glasses of the "bottomless" drinks that supposed to be in a large bottle on the table. The biscuits were 7/10 nice and fluffy. The bacon was okay 6/10. The Mac and cheese stole the show 10/10. The Brussel sprouts my company enjoyed it 10/10. The salad was good, the waffle was okay, chicken was nice and crunchy, everything else was mid. My crab cake Benedict was subpar lacked crab meat significantly. My nojito was 10/10 honestly my only enjoyment when the service was terrible. Server did not make sure the drinks were coming for my party, water was refilled, and even missed a persons entree order. The manager was rude when we asked for an adjustment due to poor service. I would not recommend. The place is small. And charging 22% for a large party when the service is terrible is ridiculous almost robbery if you ask me. And to top it off the server at the end talking about I don't know what more I could have did for you all. When you could've been attentive to the table you could've made sure everyone got their entree and not have an attitude. My friends made brunch reservations for my birthday for a party of five. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, we were the only guests. This was on a Sunday at 11 am in August 2024. We asked to be seated under the light-up sign shown in the photo, but they said no because it was reserved. However, they later seated a walk-in couple with a baby in that spot, which made us think there was some miscommunication and they didn't realize we were the reservation. We were not greeted warmly upon arrival, even though we had called ahead to inform them we'd be late and they said it was fine. Considering how slow they were, they could have been more welcoming. Our server, however, was super nice. I wish I had caught his name. We noticed several tables walk in, order one item, and then quickly leave without finishing. This scared us. One of the servers was loudly walking around on a personal phone call, which didn't help the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food and drinks weren't good at all, and we ended up grabbing a bite elsewhere afterward. Overall, we were disappointed with the service and the entire experience. Finally took a trip to the Wharf day after Memorial Day. Wanted breakfast but missed it at another spot so chose this location. Its a really cute space with plenty of seating. I sat in the bar and had the entire area to myself as I arrived before 12 pm. The waitress was friendly, which was nice we all know DMV area is touch and go with hospitality. Recently moved from the South so I lived good ole southern hospitality daily. I mentioned to the waitress I wanted breakfast she said they didnt serve breakfast but i could get the chicken and waffles and she could ask the kitchen to make some eggs so I had egg whites chicken and waffles. Listen Ive lived in the DMV for over 2 years and havent had good fried chicken until I visited Makers Union. It was well seasoned, crunchy and cooked thoroughly. We had to ask the manager both times to grab our drinks from the bar. It was no where busy enougj for how long it took to get them or the food. There is an option to order family style which is a cool concept but you have to order the entire plate. One of the options is meat, eggs and potatoes but if you want to get another meat only it has to come with the eggs and potatoes which would be a waste of food so we decided to opt against it. What's sad about this place of all the food that was ordered, the Ceasars salad (which claimed to have kale and it was mostly all romaine...maybe 1 or 2 pieces of kale) and the Brussels were the best part. Not ideal for a BRUNCH spot. There was no seasoning on the food. The chicken tenders came SOAKED in grease and when I asked the manager to try another round he told me it purposely comes like that.
