Cold brew was just what I needed! The chocolate is amazing. The Uganda was so smooth. What a find?!

Absolutely fabulous! A local boutique, Tenley Dietrich carries this chocolate or I would have never heard of it! It is phenomenal! I am a huge fan of dark chocolate, as a matter of fact it's the only chocolate I eat because there is something so decadent and rich about it. This chocolate is the creme de la Creme! They will let you sample most/all? flavors. They have different origins and it's so interesting doing a taste test and really tuning in to all of the flavors and how special and unique the qualities are! They also have delicious coffee, matcha, hot teas and pastries located next to but within the same establishment. Everyone that works here is so friendly and helpful! I love that they have a quaint outdoor area as well as seats by the window. I like to sit somewhere different each time and the vibe totally changes. Out of this world chocolate. All chocolates 70% cacao, all made in house. The truffles were TO DIE FOR. Melty but still little crunchy bits mixed in, coconut cookies, blueberry bark... oh, and some type of mango something pop tart that will put even your fondest childhood nostalgia moments to shame. I live too close to this amazing gem of a small business! First- the chocolate, made in house- the cocoa comes from various countries- Uganda, Belize, Dominican Republic and Columbia- be sure to ask for samples, because they do taste wildly different! I snagged some of my favorite treats- chocolate covered oranges, for an event that I was making some boards for. I also tried numerous treats from the cafe, the chocolate chunk cookies are simply delightful, soft, delicious and chocked full of chocolate. A coconut macroon was scrumptious. The beet and carrot pastry intriguing and tasty. I also went all in for a chocolate latte- because I am in a chocolate shop!!! Today was my first visit, and I loved it here! This place is a hidden gem. I always thought they just made chocolate, but they actually have the cutest coffee shop attached! It's perfect for catching up on work while enjoying the wonderful aroma of chocolate in the air. Such a cute chocolate place. The man working was extremely helpful, he let us sample a generous amount of different chocolates from different regions which helped decide which you liked the most. My favorite was Columbia and Dominican Republic. Each chocolate is 70% which I love so I did enjoy each chocolate. I ended up getting a large Columbia bar with nibs in it and a four pack of the truffles. It's connected to a cafe with different drinks and pastries. read more

l was intrigued by this place as they advertise sustainably sourced cacao. The staff was very friendly and explained their menu very well. I tried the chocolate chip cookie which was fresh from the oven. It was so good as the chocolate was rich but kit too sweet. The biscotti had some grapefruit and dark chocolate and surprisingly a good combination. The iced coconut vanilla late was refreshing. "Bean to bar" chocolate that tastes decadent. We got to try a few pieces of chocolate before making our purchase. The result- we left with a small 80% bar with pecans ($5), bag of mango dipped in chocolate ($8) and a small tub of their delicious semi sweet chocolate toffee ($6). The toffee wasn't overly hard which was a great surprise! This will definitely make my list of gifts to give out this holiday season. This is my husband and my new favorite coffee spot in all of Jax. My husband left saying it was the best coffee he's had in Jax. Our drinks were so tasty and smooth. The coffee was not too bitter, and the option of a sparkling americano was fun. The cinnamon roll was so good. We brought half of it home to some family members that agreed. The poptart was so good and not too sweet. We also got their Haiti and Guatemala chocolate bars and same thing - such smooth 70% dark chocolate we loved them. The first time we stopped in, my daughters sampled several types of chocolate. The gentleman working was very kind and explained the origins and taste of each. My oldest also ordered the frozen sipping chocolate. She said it was heaven. After our visit, she said her dream was to one day work for them or to own her own chocolate shop. Such a sweet idea. Not only did she enjoy the chocolate, but she very much enjoyed hearing about the science of how it's made. Today we stopped in to pick up a gift and my youngest insisted on getting something for her chocolate loving sister. We went with the single origin from Dominican Republic and my daughters loved it! This little gem was such a pleasure to visit! Before selecting my chocolate I was offered a sampling. I received information on each chocolate, it's origin and it's flavor make up. I was then allowed to sample a bite from 6 different dark chocolates that I might add...so delightedly melted on your tongue. Tasted one and this girl was HOOKED!!! They each were enjoyed slowly and very appreciatively!!! My very favorite was Costa Rica, but I literally could eat any, all day and without hesitation! Yup, that good! Think of the finest chocolate you have ever had and go one higher! They also serve bonbons, fruit covered chocolate, toffee and a few other specialty items. This is NOT a chain store. This is a local, high quality chocolate shop. The beans are roasted in house and processed all there into chocolate! (They explain the amazing process better!) I went next door to the quaint cafe and opted for a hot chocolate on this rainy day. She assured me it was THEIR chocolate and not a packaged kind!! HOLY SMOKES!! She was not kidding! It was the most decadent and amazing hot chocolate everrrrrrrr! I sipped it in the parking lot and felt some what guilty of my gem of a find and my super indulgence! But no worries...that guilt only lasted a minute! I realized all the wonderful antioxidants I was taking in and thought it was pretty much for my mental health as well as my physical!!!!! Haha!! WOW! We literally just left the shop with our 2 freshly made chocolate chip cookies and wowza! Yum! Best cookies ever. I kinda want to turn around and buy more. Delicious. We were visiting and stopped here on our way out just because it had chocolate in the name. Upon entering were we're greeted and offered samples of chocolates from Dominican, Columbia, and ugh I forgot the other. Uganda maybe?? They were all good and we bought 2 small bars. While walking aroundAtlantic Beach waiting for my car to get a new tire put on, I had the good fortune of finding Makenu and meeting its owners Jess and Tucker. Makenu - is a word taken from the Māori language, meaning journey or walkabout. Makenu is a store that illustrates the journey of chocolate . There isn't a shop like it in town. WHATS SO SPECIAL HERE MARKOS? Well friends, most places are chocolatiers, meaning they take finished chocolate and form it into or melt it over other products. They don't actually MAKE the chocolate. What is different about Makenu is that this product is actually MADE here not just remedies and formed into cute nibbles sourced from who knows where. Nope- Makenu is gone to chocolate makers and they are true to their craft! I asked a bunch of questions- cuz I'm like that y'all - and I took notes. Makenu's process is like this- THE PRO-CESS 1. Sourcing good cacao beans - responsible sourcing methods, beyond fair trade, making sure farmers are compensated properly. 2. Exporting the product 3. Roasting- yes ! Just like a coffee bean, they roast in house 4. Cracking the bean 5. Winnowing- separating the husk from the nibs 6. Melanger- crushes the bibs with natural heat (friction) creating the actual chocolate liquid (3 days) 7. Tempering- raiding and lowering the temp of the chocolate liquid so that it can be solid at room temperature. 8. Molding into bars and other deliciousness A five day process!!!! BUT MARKOS, WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN BRO? Clearly you skipped to the bottom of the review. IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH when it comes to chocolate, there is no where else to be other than at Makenu. The product comes in completely raw and is made into beautiful dark works of art that are better than anything commercially available. If you are a choco-snob or even if you just have exceptional taste and want the purest chocolate experience a tastebud can get, make your way to Makenu, across from Aqua East at Atlantic Blvd And Seminole Rd. EXTRA NOTES- This is a new business from owners Jess &Tucker who have both journied in the regions they source their beans from. Both have been involved in confection for quite a while. I found Makenu doing a search for local chocolatiers and makers. I looked at the website and was initially impressed with their desire to start from beginning to end in the process by starting with the beans. One of my closest friends owns a coffee roastery, so this really spoke to me. It was Saturday, and after, our morning coffee we drove up to the store and were immediately greeted by the owners. We bought one of practically everything they make for our Christmas stockings. They were informative and friendly. So far, I have only broken into and tried the dark and white chocolate toffees. They have been perfectly sublime...so you can imagine my anticipation for Christmas Day when we get to try the rest. Go in. We were given the most beautiful chocolate cake from Makenu for Christmas and our family was so excited to dig in! Unfortunately the beauty stopped at the pie, it tasted as if the sugar was missing or some other ingredient was left out.
