Low rating to reflect prices only. I recently moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn and tried two local framing shops for several pieces of large artwork, (based on Yelp reviews). Yes, the service and results were good but extremely overpriced - and the turnaround time is very long. I know that large custom framing is an investment but they really think they are in Soho or something. (Go to KC Arts on Court street, same excellent service, much more affordable, quick turnaround, and same precise framing -they also do local delivery AND help with installation). Make a Frame does not deliver. If money is no object, go to Make A Frame. read more

Understandably, they had to charge me more than I paid for the coupon due to the size, but the service was so on point and the poster came out looking so fantastic -- in a quicker time frame than they had even estimated -- that it was well worth it. read more

Some of the people working here are rude and unhelpful. I came in to pick something up and the woman who "helped" me was bizarre and skeptical of everything I said. She laughed when I told her what I was picking up and gave me a cold blank stare when I tried to help her do her job of finding my photos. If you want unique and timeless frames, this is where you want to go. It's a bit pricey, as custom framing often is, but the work they do more than justifies the investment. There might be a bit of a wait when you walk in, but I've found coming in when they open to be quiet enough to get someone to help you right away. Having framed numerous pieces with them, I've worked with most of their staff - everyone is friendly and extremely well versed in their options. If you have to wait, it's for a good reason: the staff wants to exhaust all the best options with you so you arrived at something that works perfectly for your space and brings you joy for years to come in your home. While Thoren and Eddy and everyone's names who I'm forgetting (sorry, I'm terrible with names) are all extremely delightful to work with, they are in a really tough competition for the biggest strength of the shop - their custom made-in-house frames being the other contender. I cannot be happier with the timeless options they make entirely in the shop. It's nice to land a local original. They offer a variety of woods, soft and hard, and gorgeous finish options. I've fallen in love with every one they've put on my various pieces - the blackout sides gave the right depth when used, rich browns have brought out red tones, oak provided contrasts to a friend's watercolor original, and so many more delights, too. The staff all thinks carefully about each piece - to the point that Thoren guessed (correctly!) that my friend has a bit of a Miyazaki vibe to her tree watercolors (she does often paint Totoro) - and love to help you frame things to coordinate with each other, too. Make sure to ask about top splines on their frames - little corner details. Once, a print I had got a top spline with just the perfect amount of contrast to really bring the details out. I love seeing it on my ways. Very rarely, the right frame wasn't one of their in house ones, but they have a massive selection of those, too, and aren't afraid to also show you those options if you're just not feeling the fully made-in-house beauties.. The mats and glass options are made from the best materials built to last, too. And careful thought is placed to getting the right frame annnd mat combination and the right glass for maintaining your art for years and years. Be sure to check out the raised float mount. It doesn't work with quite every piece, but it's my goto and at least worth noting for future pieces. I think Thoren mentioned that it's his fave, too. They give you the right weight-bearing picture hangers needed, too. While they're not that expensive to get yourself, it's nice not to have to think about it. Once, there was a slight mishap where the top splines on their in house frames was left off my job, but getting it resolved was a breeze and Thoren made sure to rush the correction. I don't think I actually have space to have any more art in my place anymore, so no more framing for me. Until I switch things out... and I know I'll come back here for it. read more

I popped in today to have new glass put in my artwork. It fell down and the glass shattered everywhere :( They were extremely helpful and advised for my large piece that it might be better to use plexiglass and 2 hooks to avoid future accidents. It was a little quiet on a Tuesday afternoon so they offered to do it on the spot. Wow! What service! I was anticipating it would take at least a week but they did a great job, wrapped it up and I was ready to rehang it in under an hour. Friendly. Knowledgeable. Helpful. read more

Let me begin my five star review by saying, no, this is not a cheap framing shop. But after pretty thorough cost comparison with places nearby and online, I do not think they are overpriced. What you get for your money is an incredibly professional group of people who really know what they are doing and obviously take pride in it. From start to finish my dealing with them was superb and the finished projects (two posters with much sentimental value to me framed and matted in plexi) are extremely beautifully done. They took time with me to make aesthetic choices and were upfront and transparent about costs allowing me to save money in some ways which then made me happy to spend more in others. We were so impressed and delighted by the energy and knowledge that Andrew shared in having two images framed. We wanted to ensure that each image was given a professional and sophisticated look, and he respectfully shared his opinions and suggestions in a way that made us feel comfortable and that we were in the hands of someone we could trust. The shop had a huge tabletop for us to work on and it's neatly organized and structured, with various examples of framed images and artwork for us to look at and reference while making decisions. Andrew helped explain the various wood frame options and matting colors, so it was fun to be a part of the process under his careful guidance. He then told us about the Yelp discount (which we weren't aware of!) during the appointment which was a lovely gesture. High quality framing, done with care. I recently had a bunch of framing done at Make A Frame, including some weird requests -- things that had been badly framed by another shop, and some unusual items, like a thin fabric piece. The staff member who took my order was patient, took time to discuss my options, and explained what could or couldn't be done. Turnaround time wasn't quick -- about a month and a half. But that was stated up front. The cost was also pretty high, but I was having a lot of framing done, and the labor was significant. The staff member who I received my items from was also very well informed, and took care to wrap my items and bundle them up so I'd be able to carry them home. He provided free hanging hooks, and made sure I was carrying the items properly! I was satisfied by Make a Frame's service and products, from start to finish. read more

I have always been happy with the work I've taken to Make A Frame but recently had an exceptional experience with them. In the past few years I've taken them artwork to be framed, repaired and stretched onto a frame. Everything always turned out great, which is why when I had a special item to be framed I didn't question where to go. I had a very special shirt that belonged to my late husband framed and could not have been happier with the way it turned out. I literally walked in with the shirt and a few photos and no clue as to what to do with them. I explained the significance of the shirt and the photos and that it would be hanging in my husband's favorite bar. Brittney jumped right in to tackle this difficult task and came up with a brilliant idea to incorporate the photos with the shirt. She seemed genuinely grateful to be working on something so special to me and I cannot thank her enough for the excellent job she and the others at Make A Frame did.
