This was the night before my appointment and Blackman Grove. It was just me at home, living in the middle of nowhere, with a dead car battery and no way to jump it. I called to get the appointment rescheduled, but was told it'd be $75 to do so. Fine. Thanks, daughter. I get it. 2. Finally get a new bridge (not sure if that was what the other appointment was for, but man, it was expensive, even with insurance.) However...a hygenist puts the bridge on and shapes it way too short. The dentist didn't even do anything. I was told she doesn't like doing those or fillings. I was also told that if I didn't like it, they could send it to a lab, but it'd cost MORE. Now, that side of my smile...the teeth are way shorter than the other side.‍ To my main point and complaint: found a new dentist where I'm located. They did X-rays and told me that all of my crowns from Blackman Grove are garbage. You can see them in the X-rays...they're not even cemented down well. I paid thousands...THOUSANDS...and now need to get them redone because my mouth aches. I loved this dentist...BEFORE they hired new people and completely redid the place (and started adding Botox to their services.)

One of the staff members who was gathering information was extremely rude and difficult to deal with. She asked for a referral letter, but they hadn't mentioned that to me to bring it in myself. The front desk staff was also rude and wasted my time. They made me drive 45 minutes back and forth, waiting patiently without seeing the specialist.

I've had a broken tooth with the root exposed and a slight infection that's been causing me serious, serious pain for the past few months. I had been trying to hold out until my new insurance kicks in in February to have it dealt with, but late last night (December 23rd), I was hit with such immense, constant pain that I had to be rushed to the ER because of this nerve. My vitals had skyrocketed and I was trembling uncontrollably. The pain lasted for hours and the ER gave me injections into my mouth to try and temporarily deaden the nerve. They said it should last 8-12 hours, and in the meantime, I had to try to do everything in my power to find a dentist that would do an emergency extraction on Christmas Eve. I was up first thing in the morning, calling literally every dentist in Middle Tennessee.. Only to have every single one closed, and not only that, but for 4-5 more days. I was distraught and terrified to have that pain return and there be nothing I could do about it except lay in the ER in agony. After hours of searching, I found Fortress Dental and gave them a call. To my surprise, someone picked up and I asked if they were open to do an emergency procedure. The woman on the other end seemed hesitant and said not really, but asked what was going on. When I explained the situation, she told me to hold on while she asked. When she returned to the line, she informed me that if I came ASAP, they could get me in to at least examine it and potentially be able to remove it today depending on how difficult of a procedure it would be. This was the best shot I had and my only option, so I left immediately. When I got there and filled out the paperwork, they got me right in. After examining the tooth (which only cost $50 including the xrays), the told me that they would be able to remove it for me today. I had asked if that included anesthesia (because I have very, very bad medical/dental anxiety and have never had a tooth removed before and would need to be put under for it), and they said they didn't do anesthesia there and they could refer me out if I needed that. Since waiting even another hour more wasn't an option, I had to reluctantly agree to having the tooth removed under nitro. I was terrified and trembling, but they were the most comforting, gentle, calming, and encouraging people throughout the entire process. They helped keep me calm, they played relaxing music for me, they talked me through it the whole time, gave me stress balls to hold, covered me in a blanket, etc. They were comforting and encouraging of everything I was doing right and the entire procedure was a lot easier for me (both mentally and physically) than I could have ever hoped for. I cannot stress enough how absolutely incredible the associates here are and how beyond grateful I am for them. I cried tears of joy and relief when it was over because I would never have to go through that pain/fear of that pain again and thanked them all profusely. To everyone at Fortress Dental who helped me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Truly. I can't tell you how much pain and suffering you saved me from for who knows how many days. You are all a blessing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for being open and thank you for taking me in at the last minute, right before you were supposed to close. New dude tells me my metal fillings (from many years ago, not put in by this Dr.) are toxic, and that they all need to be replaced, posthaste! Before then, I was getting regular checkups w Dr. Atkinson. He was such an honest, non-greedy dentist ...Atkinson told me my fillings looked great, that they'd last a long time. He also pointed out small cavities that were barely formed in my front molars. He always said to me, "don't worry, they're fine, don't need to get fillings for them, we'll just keep an eye on them if they get bigger ".... That philosophy from a dentist is so hard to find. He could have pushed fillings onto me to make money, but he recognized that for the time being, it was unnecessary work. A dentist with the attitude of only drilling when it's really medically needed, is the kind you want. The dental hygienist was also super sweet to me, and was super ocd about cleaning my teeth, haha, a good quality to have. My teeth felt so perfect after my cleanings there... I miss you guys! !

I had a tooth crown placed here less that a year ago (10/20/25) and started experiencing severe temperature sensitivity about three weeks ago. When I went back in yesterday with my concerns, Dr. Bradley Atkinson completely ignored the physical evidence in my mouth. Within 30 seconds of sitting in the chair, the assistant tried to lay the lead vest on me to get a xray before even seeing Dr Atkinson. I told her I was paying out of pocket & could not afford a xray. She said numerous times she would "see if the Dr could come see me". I firmly repeated several times that I fully expect to see the dentist before I left. Dr Atkinson did give me a xray with no cost to me, which I appreciate, but still confused why it was necessary. He didn't even investigate the faulty crown before taking the xray (which took less than 1 minute to produce). After reviewing my new xray, he pressed down on the computer screen with a dental tool as he was going over the image with me & then went to put the same tool in my mouth. I asked if that was the tool he just pressed the screen with & if he could clean it or use another tool. He laughed it off & said, "ha, you should come work for me" & some other mumbo jumbo & used the unsanitary tool anyway. After asking several times for him to actually examine the crown, there was a massive, audible gap between the bottom of the crown & my gumline where his dental explorer tool was physically catching & making a sound. I asked, "do you not feel & hear that catching?" He said it was fine. Instead of admitting that the crown failed to seal properly & fixing it, he tried to talk fast, confuse me & was aggressively pressuring me into agreeing to an expensive, irreversible root canal. I asked him if the xray would show any nerve issues & he said, "no, you tell me about nerve pain." What was the point of the xray then??? He even tried to show me an image of another patient's xray to convince me of something. Not sure what that was about, but I knew it was a HIPPA violation! Realizing I was not being heard & instead being hustled into an unnecessary procedure to cover up a bad crown placement, I got up from the chair & walked out. When I called back to legally request a digital copy of my X-rays & files, the front desk girl said she'd send the files, but I still haven't received the files. Before we hung up, I asked if she had my email, which she didn't. I gave her my email and said goodbye. Glad I asked! If you want an honest, sanitary doctor who won't treat you like a sales quota, go somewhere else. Dr Atkinson talks so fast & in circles, I feel like he's trying to distract you to upsale you. I'm disappointed he didn't stand behind his (over $1300) work & am getting a second opinion tomorrow. UPDATE: A lovely woman named TT, called me to apologize & explained things on the technical side. If the new, follow up Dentist tells me I was incorrect about the crown gap, I will delete my negative review...
