The owners of place are truly the worst scam artists, true to form. I hired them to repair my dishwasher in Manhattan. They came 4 times to attempt a repair and each time they told me a different thing was wrong with it. None of the diagnoses fixed the problem amd they were all total guesses. As a result of this "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" approach to repairs, I went 6 weeks without a dishwasher bc we had to wait for a part to arrive so they could replace something that wasnt even the issue. After the whole saga, they refused to refund me the $200 or so I initially paid them to diagnose AND fix the problem. They didnt diagnose the problem bc they never figured out what it was and they surely didnt fix it. They just said "you need a new dishwasher bc we cant fix it." I needed to pay them 200 bucks for that? A normal business would have said we are sorry we failed and you deserve a refund. Not these greasy people. read more

William, the air conditioner technician send by Major Appliance Service, is exceptional. The repair company booked our appointment for the morning after they received clearance from PC Richard. As for why William is exceptional, he at first noted that the motor of the air conditioner was kaput, but in a Hail Mary pass, he removed the front and unscrewed the whatever, and voila! An A/C as good as new. Both PC Richard and Major Appliance Service deserve praise for the almost immediate booking and the actual repair. read more

Service, quality and value of anything they provide including customer service, I have learned, is negative and not worth using. From how they "provide a schedule" for when service can take place, to the customer service experience of their workers who supposedly come to assist you with the issue the appliance poses. If you're using this service out of your own pocket, I would highly say take your money elsewhere. read more

The short version: They did great. I recommend this company. They.The service man was knowledgeable, came prepared, & fixed it immediately and quickly. I should mention that they arrived within the 3 hour window of time that I was given. I did not get a warning call letting me know that they would be arriving soon, they just showed up. The long version: The oven of our 8 year old Frigidaire Gas Range broke. It just stopped working. I called the company that sold us the oven & they recommended Major Appliance Service Company. Amusingly, Frigidaire recommended them too as well as recommending another company. The reviews online are scary horrid, but I decided to contact them because of the two recommendations. It started with visiting their website & filling in the request for a repair, and I included as much info as I could. I even tried to trouble shoot the problem (broil worked & oven didn't, blah blah blah). I received a call fairly quickly from someone who promised very little other than I would receive a visit & it would cost me $99. I did not have a good feeling from the person in the office, there were even times that he called my range a refrigerator. But the service guy read what I wrote on the website & diagnosed the problem in his head & arrived prepared with fixes. And he figured it out quickly, and even had the parts in his tool bag. Not everyone is this lucky with an available part, but I was. They were in and out inside 35 minutes & repaired the heating element in the oven. It's a common thing that dies. read more

Kristy was completely unprofessional on Nov 12th at 9:45am. My appointment window was from 1-4:00 and I was called at 9:41 by a technician that if no one is available then they can't come. I was attending a funeral and they expected me to leave or reschedule. This was at 9:41 and the appointment window was from 1-4:00!!!!! I just bought a Premier range and the oven thermostat was not working or wasn't adjusted correctly. Premier said the part probably needs replacement and recommended this company. The repairman said it was a big hassle adjusting the temperature, if it was off, and had the part, so I said go ahead and replace...in any case the appliance was under the year warranty. I think it took him five minutes. I went out to buy raw chicken to test the oven, since at 400 degrees it would render it raw after an hour. With the new thermostat, it perfectly cooked at 400 degrees. I will use them in the future. read more

I have used Major Appliance Service several times over the years and have always had good results. Yesterday I had called for my portable washer, and luckily the man was already in my neighborhood and was able to be there within the hour, which he was. I explained to Claire over the telephone what the problem was, and the man already knew what part he needed and brought it, fixed the machine and I was able to use it last night. I had the same nice man from the last time, and am very happy with using major Appliance Service, and will recommend them to anyone that I know that needs something repaired read more

Yelp's definition of three stars is "A-OK" and four stars is "Yay! I'm a fan." I chose three stars for Major Appliance because it was A-OK! Here's the story: My oven wouldn't ignite so I called Premier, the maker of my oven, and they gave me Major's number as a local repair service. Major Appliance says the following two things to you about every time you call: 1) They can't really make a quote without coming for a diagnostic visit which costs $86.56 (with tax). If you decide to let them do the repair after the diagnostic, then the diagnostic fee will go toward the repair cost. 2) They will give you a call on the day of your appointment before they come and if you don't pick up the phone then they will not come. They are actually pretty normal and respectful on the phone and I understand why they have these two policies in place. They are both fairly reasonable approaches to avoiding wasting time. Still, I don't really like the diagnostic fee policy because - what if they come and then give me an overpriced quote? Then I have to decline the overpriced repair but still have to pay $86.56. The phone call policy is totally ok -- but there was something about how they mentioned these two policies every time I called that felt like they've probably been burned a lot and feel the need to really emphasize these rules. When you make an appointment it the kind where they will come some time during the specified day. If you ask for a specific time of day, they say that you can call the morning of the day and talk to them about a specific time and they will be able to narrow down the window a bit. Ok; not so bad. A respectful mechanic came by. He figured out that the problem was the spark module on the back of the oven. He had the part with him and was able to install it quickly. He was in and out in about 20 minutes. Here was fee: $110 for the part $159 for the labor $23.86 tax ---------------- $296.86 total If I bought the part directly from the manufacturer it would cost $97.55 (incl. shipping) so their part markup is fair. $159 for 20 minutes of labor is not the worst if you consider their travel and overhead. $120 feels a little more reasonable. Overall, it was A-OK and the oven is fixed. read more

Waited all day for their tech who was supposed to show up between 8am and 4pm. Apparently they won't bother showing up to the appointment unless you confirm that you're home when they call you the day of the appointment. I wasn't informed of this policy so I didn't have my phone at hand and missed their call at 3pm. I'd find another repair company so you don't have to deal with people who don't respect that you've taken a day off from work to be home during their ridiculous repair windows. Not showing up to an appointment is incredibly unprofessional. I hate it when it a company wastes my time and costs me a day's pay. Their customer service department is too useless to even apologize. EDITED TO ADD: I spoke with the owner of the company today who was just as unhelpful. I tried to give them a chance to correct their mistake but they refused to give me the first appointment on their next available day claiming that they don't want to drive back and forth around Queens. I have used this gracious and professional company for over 10 years. They have kept my apartment size washing machine going strong with quick and practical, cost-effective solutions to worn parts. They call call back promptly (within an hour) with appointment details and all repair persons have arrived within the time-frame designated. Most appointments are for next day however I was delighted to have my recent repair accomplished the same day I called it in and within 4 hours! The repair personnel are fast and very, very knowledgeable and the prices reasonable. This is a great small business. read more

Terrible place! They will try to rip you off. They charge me a visit fee to diagnose the problem and said that this charge will be credited against the cost of the repair work. After they came out and charge $100, they are now not willing to credit the $100 against the cost to do the repair work. read more

Called Avanti the manufacturer this morning re: refrigerator not cooling - under warranty. They told me they would have Major Appliance Service contact me to set up an appointment. They said it will take up to 3 days to hear from them. I heard from Major Appliance within 1 hour of contacting Avanti. Major said they could actually come by today, again, the very same day I contacted Avanti. I said OK, what time, They gave me a three hour window and called when they were on their way. They were very prompt. The serviceman immediately recognized that the unit was not cooling, and started to work on it. Within in 25 min he was in and out of my place, replaced a part in the freezer and a part on the back of the refrigerator. He was pleasant, had the correct parts with him. When he left he said the unit would start cooling in about 10 minutes and it did. I have no complaints about this service call, only good things to say and credit too to Avanti the manufacturer. read more

Horrible Company Called to repair my A/C and the guy came and charged $100.00( they did not mention a service fee over the phone) just to walk through the door and feel around the A/C and said it can not be fixed on premises and that It would cost $ 300.00 or more to fix save yourself time and money just buy a new A/C if broken it's a lot cheaper. read more

Will never use Major Appliance Service again. They charged $108.82 just to look at our refrigerator. They claim that the customer is responsible for their travel time. The repair, which took 10 minutes, ended up costing over $300. Avoid them at all costs. Suggestion: try Googling your appliance and part number. You can often order the part online -- for what Major Appliance actually pays -- and install it yourself. read more
