After 1 guy flaked, I started looking again. Yelp brought up the same 4-5 companies so I did a google search. I found Majestic and only saw great reviews. I called on Friday. They came by and gave me a quote. I had 2 African Candlesbra cacti that were 20 feet tallish and against my roof; 1 orchid tree and 1 twisted trunk tree that needed good trimming; a stump that needed grinding (I'll never try all the wives tales again to try and remove one myself again). It was a lot of work- more than I anticipated. Glad I found them and got the work done before winds kicked up again. Full crew; they wear the appropriate safety gear and come with all of the necessary equipment. I'll definitely use them again if I need the trees trimmed in the future or if anyone asks for a referral. read more

Listen up, Yelpers! I got three estimates to have our trees thinned and trimmed, and Majestic was a few hundred dollars lower than the other two bids. I am not always inclined to go with the lowest bid, but working with Enrique was easy. I read the reviews of all three companies and looked at their websites. I am sure all of the companies would have done great work, but I liked Enrique because he is easy going, confident, very straight forward about the job and he was punctual. All the companies being equal, aside from the price, I have to admit that I gave Enrique the job because I ultimately went with my gut. My gut was correct. I called Enrique on Wednesday, June 17, the day after he gave me a bid, and asked him when he could do the job, and he said Tuesday, June 23, and he would arrive at 8:00 am. I usually call to confirm an appointment the day before, but I spaced out and just trusted he would be there in the morning. Enrique and his team arrived on time and got to cutting the trees. They took care to move a few plants that I had in pots to avoid getting smashed by falling limbs. Enrique and his team were very impressive to watch; there were two men in the trees with harnesses and two on the ground. They worked efficiently, diligently, and artistically shaped both trees. They finished the Chinese Elm by 11:30, took a lunch break, and then knocked out the Jacaranda tree and were out of here by 2:35. They did an excellent clean up of all the limbs and leaves. I asked if he preferred a check or credit card. He asked for a check, and the amount due was as originally quoted. Enrique and his crew did an EXCELLENT job at trimming our overgrown, very large backyard tree as well as removeing another tree on the side of our house that was starting to lift the walkway and push on our garage foundation. The tree was cut down with extreme care as to not fall on the roof of the garage or our neighbor's garage. The stump was ground up well and deep and the root that was the concern in the garage was dug up by hand and cut so it could no longer grow. I have rarely had such a pleasant experience with independent contractors. From the first contact to the completion of the project all went as smoothly as possible. They arrived in West L.A. from Sylmar exactly at 8:00 a.m. to begin the project on a Tuesday morning. Traversing the Sepulveda Pass at that time of day to arrive anywhere on time is nothing short of miraculous, or the result of very careful planning. Enrique said, "We left early." I marveled at the artistry with which Enrique cut down a 40 foot acacia tree in about an hour, slipping heavy branches by rope into a narrow passage between homes, avoiding a tile roof and a neighbor's fence. I commented he must have been doing this for a long time. He said he has been climbing trees for 12 years, but only recently started this family-owned business. He was accompanied by his brother and brother-in-law, who worked efficiently removing the branches and heavy tree trunks to the shredder and truck. Observing the ease with which they performed their tasks, my neighbor asked Enrique if he had time to do a small job for her. He readily accepted, and his prices are better than the competition. I called Enrique for an estimate on Tuesday and we agreed to meet at 5.30 pm. At 5.45 pm I called to find out where he was and he told me he was 30 minutes away in Westlake, which is 15 minutes from my house. At 6.40 he said he was at my gate (which was open) and needed the code to get in, huh ? I asked him where he was and got an unintelligible reply, he then said we had agreed to meet the following day at which point I told him not to bother. I needed a large pine and a large ash trimmed way back. I researched in yelp and set up many appointments for estimates through Yelp. 2 companies never showed up for their appointments, but I did end up getting 4 quotes. Majestic was the lowest quote by several hundred dollars. They are fairly new but I decided to give them a try. The 3-man crew showed up early and were ready to go at the agreed start time. I wanted the pine tree thinned out and all the branches near my house to be removed. The Ash tree had several broken and dead branches I wanted removed before the fell in my or my neighbor's yards. They trimmed all of my ficus and pitisporis (spelling) hedges that border my entire property. They also primed and canopied my other trees. Very reasonable. Removal of all debris and waste with very minimal damage to some small plants, which is expected because the hedges are over 20 feet tall in some spots.
