We went here for a weeknight date night and enjoyed the intimate setting and unique experience of the restaurant. The food was good, nothing outstanding. It is interesting how you have to have a reservation and communication is made directly by text/phone call. Pretty sure it's just the waitress and chef in the place (the owners) and they do make it a unique experience. We might come back bc we enjoyed the seclusion and feeling like it's not your average restaurant experience in Baton Rouge. read more

Quaint, intimate and upscale is what I expected from this (the only?) French restaurant in Baton Rouge. It's upscale for sure, but when I went it was anything but quaint and intimate. We were seated next to a very large party and they were quite rowdy, loud and obnoxious. I was so unimpressed with what should have been a romantic dinner that it truly soured the experience for me. I've waited to write this review for a while because of it. They seemed to be a full capacity, so asking for another table was out of the question. It's not all bad, though. I was delighted with my entree (John's Favorite) especially the puff pastry filled with lump crab and shrimp and that bread basket was truly to die for. If you're celebrating a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday and want to have a quiet/romantic dinner I would definitely mention that when making reservations. read more

Too many 5 star reviews for me to keep silent. Took my mom and dad here two years ago for mine and her birthday. First, texting for reservations? Neither of my parents have smartphones. Secondly, cash only? I realize that credit card companies and/or banks charge a fee, but give me a choice and I'll pay it. Don't know what her day had been like, but we were not greeted warmly by the hostess. Nor was she pleasant for the rest of the evening. Salad and dressing was so good. I had the lamb which was the best I have eaten in years. Perfect. Wife had a spicy shrimp cream sauce dish on angel hair pasta. She cleaned the plate. Went here for my boyfriend's birthday and had an absolutely delicious meal! Everything was prepared well and the service was very attentive. I forgot to take pictures of our starters but they were also delicious. Only downside keeping it from a 5 star is it's cash only and it's definitely a European feel as we were dining for 2.5 hours. Nice, unique restaurant that is great for a special night. The place is small and quiet- great for a date night. It is on the expensive side but that's ok for special occasions. We had duck pate, lamb, seafood crepe, chocolate cake, and the walnut cake. The pate was just ok but everything else was cooked and seasoned well. The mustard sauce with the lamb was well balanced - it had an acid element that most pan sauces are missing. Even the salad included with the meals was delicious. Probably one of the best dining experiences I have had in Baton Rouge. Food is amazing and the service was attentive and helpful. The whole vibe is intimate but not stuffy. We got the escargot and the soup as appetizers and we both very happy with our choices. For main course I had the wild boar with a mushroom sauce which was dynamite and my wife had the seafood crepe which was really good. We felt like we absolutely had to get a soufflé for desert but debated on if each needed one. I was very glad that we decided to get a chocolate and a lemon. We ate every bit of it. This is definitely a special occasion type place, but for the quality and experience, I found it very reasonably priced. read more

I'd give Maison Lacour 3 1/2 stars. It's in a very quaint house but located in a not-so-great area of Baton Rouge but that's just a sign of the changing times since they opened. Service was excellent. Restaurant was very very quiet. If you're looking for a good atmosphere to talk and drink- this may not be the place. We had the 7 pm seating and by 9- the restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday night Food was good but I don't think it's anything to die for. We spent $400 with tip for 4 people. I just think you can have a much better meal elsewhere for the price. Would love to see them add more Flavor into their dishes. Food was a little bland. read more

Maison Lacour is a traditional French restaurant run by a French family presented in a tiny house. It's so cute and sweet. But don't let all this cuteness trick you, this is not a place to take lightly- the food is prepared with the highest levels of detail. And as you might expect, there is a price to match. You just feel fancy eating here. Personally I almost always get the filet forestière, which is a nice size filet with mushrooms and sauce on top. After having a steak here, no other place can compare. If you want to try the soufflé (and trust me, you do), make sure to let your server know early because it takes 30 minutes to prepare. I also recommend reservations and try out the early bird menu which they have from 5:30-6:30; it comes with 4 courses for a lower set price. I love Maison Lacour! read more

Probably the best restaurant in Baton Rouge!! I can't imagine many other restaurants in the area being better than Maison Lacour. It is a small, quiet, and relatively unknown place. My friend told me to meet her yesterday evening early for dinner b/c they have an early dinner menu that is only $28 for a 4-course meal. Otherwise the dinner menu is expensive ($30-40 per entree). The service here is first-class. Our server did a wonderful job. We didn't have to ask for much as she was always a step ahead of what was anticipated. Everything we had was truly delicious and amazing!! Had the soup Jacqueline (the best soup I've had in a long time). This soup is made with crabmeat, asparagus, and brie cheese! For my entree I had the Pork Tenderloin whch was topped with a raspberry sauce. The pork was very tender and flavorful. My friend had the Crawfish Baton Rouge. I tried some of my friend's dish and it was sooo good. The cream sauce was perfect and not too salty. The desserts were both delicious (white chocolate bread pudding and chocolate mousse). This place looks like something out of a romantic movie scene! The restaurant is a little cottage/house that was transformed into this quaint French restaurant. The interior is charming and has this peacefulness ambience; light yellow wall with various framed French paintings and posters. The seating areas are a bit smaller and intimate. I love how the sunlight flows past the white window drapes! The three of us shared a fabulous platter of venison sausage paired with a poached apple in cinnamon & nutmeg; and their smoked salmon w/ their own crostini. I absolutely enjoyed the sausage. It has this Asian influence taste to it. We also had their jacqueline soup (creamy Brie w/ lumps of crab) and their creamy crawfish soup. The crawfish soup had a hint of citrus flavor to it that I wasn't used it. Although both soup was made with cheese, the flavor and texture was light. They also offer freshly baked French style breads. Literally FRESH and warm out of the oven! Main courses: patè chaud, salmon cakes and seafood crepes. The patè chaud's crust was nice and flaky, and the meat inside was very savory. The salmon cake (think of a crab cake, but made with salmon instead) was cooked to perfection! I ordered the seafood crepes and wasn't too impress with it. I felt the creamy sauce they topped the crepe was missing a bit of something. For dessert, we ordered their chocolate soufflé...topped with amaretto liquor. This was my first soufflé! It was definitely something worth to try! Waitstaff was awesome in this white linen little restaurant tucked into the trees. FOOD Soupe Jacqueline: (4 stars): Brie cheese soup with lump crab and asparagus. Very savory, not overpowering with any particular flavor over another. Not thick like a chowder, but a thin, fairly smooth consistency. Pâté Chaud: (4 stars) Pork and mushroom pâté, baked into a puff pastry and bathed in this sweet port wine Madeira sauce. Simply put, it tastes like a ground beef and mushroom pot pie. The sauce was pretty good. White Chocolate Bread Pudding (4 star): This was a warm, delicious little brea pudding. The sauce was good, as was the consistency, moist and dense enough. Great ambience in converted home to restaurant. Waitstaff was attentive and sweet. French bread was amazing...Very difficult to resist. Seafood crepe was tres bien. All the ingredients were fresh. I first ate at this restaurant many years ago when my wife and I were still dating. While visiting Baton Rouge we were asked where we'd like to meet friends for dinner and I asked about "that French restaurant in the little old house." Our local friends immediately knew the name and remarked how it had been some time since they had been to Maison Lacour and were eager to return. We met there and I was excited to have another opportunity to eat there. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was a bit quiet so we had very attentive and helpful service. We had appetizers for the table and I absolutely loved the escargot. I'm not a big fan of pâté but the rest of the table loved it. The venison sausage was tasty and the mustard they served with it was a good match. I thought the salad they served before my entrée was delicious. It was appropriately sized but I wished there had been a little more in the serving just because I really enjoyed the flavors. I had a difficult time selecting my dish given the attractiveness of all the items on the menu. I ordered the wild boar which comes with a cream sauce and mushrooms. Personally, I prefer a bit of a savory and gamey flavor and found the cream sauce knocked those flavors down a bit much for me giving it a sweeter personality. I still enjoyed the dish very much but if you don't care for the more savory type of dish then you may enjoy this dish more than I. My wife and I split a chocolate soufflé and I would rate it as just OK. It was technically perfect but was a little on the light side from a flavor perspective. In the future I would probably explore other dessert options. Overall we had a wonderful evening. Good, attentive service. We keep coming back whenever possible. This is a real find in a city over-populated with Cajun and fast food restaurants. It's French and a big notch above anything and everything in the area. We've tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Ignoring our desire for the last wonderful menu item enjoyed, we always try something new, in which we have never disappointed. Tres tres magnifique! This place blew my mind. I found Maison Lacour mostly by accident: my family came to visit Baton Rouge and we wanted somewhere with great food that we hadn't tried yet. Maison Lacour was listed on the pricier end, but had fantastic reviews. And with good reason! Now we have been back a second time, and I can tell you it's just as good--if not better--when knowing exactly what to expect when you walk through the doors. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is both relaxed and comfortable as well as feeling high-class. It really is like you stepped through a door into the real French roots of la Louisiane. Those commenting on the slow service may not have known that this is how restaurants with several courses work. It is supposed to be relaxed time to enjoy your friends or family--the waitress is far from inattentive: Neither our wine glasses nor our waters were ever empty. I have nothing but good to say about the service. The Food: The Shrimp Ravioli was so fantastic that we ordered it as our appetizer on both trips. The Escargot is as good as any you'll find in France. The house salad and vinaigrette is delicious. It's got pickled red onions (don't knock them until you've tried them if you think you don't like onions in your salad, both my husband and I feel that way about raw onions in our salads, but not so with these!), walnuts. Since we had four people dining each time, we got to taste many things on the menu. Personally, I had Carré d'Agneau (lamb rack) the first time and Sweetbread the second time--the sweetbread is probably the best thing I've ever put into my mouth. Other dishes our party got over the two trips included: John's Favorite (it was awesome!), Steak au Poivre (it was very good, but the other more traditionally Southern France dishes still knocked it out of the park), Flounder En Papillote, Wild Boar Chops, Crevettes Baton Rouge (spicy shirmp over angel hair pasta), and Rock Dove. As you can see, we tried a wide variety on the menu, and it was all very very good. Open your mind to possibilities, and try a little something from France! Maison is like a transporting Bed and Breakfast with a truly elevated dining experience. The staff is lovely and each room is awash with southern charm and taste. My duck was mind blowing and while the portion was generous, I ate every bite- greedily. The location is clearly not the fault of the owners as it is much like the movie "Up" where the little old man refuses to sell his home to the skyscraper developers eclipsing his neighborhood. Maison is transporting once inside, but is quite literally surrounded by office parks on a busy road. The mismatch does not bother your taste buds one iota however and I would return here happily. Had an Anniversary dinner here after a recommendation from a colleague of mine. I wanted to try something different and this was right up our alley. I've probably driven past this place a hundred times and I'm glad we were able to try this place out. It looks like a little home and it was very cozy and welcoming inside. The service was great and I believe one of the owners may be the head of the floor there. She was always around making sure everyone was ok which is always nice to see. The food was pretty good although I'd probably try something different if I had the opportunity. Lamb was well executed, ravioli was good as well as the escargot. We will visit again. There are a few life events that occur when splurging on a pricey meal is 100% acceptable. My wife and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here and the food and experience were nothing short of amazing. The restaurant is nestled away near Sherwood Forest Blvd and Interstate 12. The servers are attentive and the waiting time is short. I would recommend Maison's Early Diners Special (30 dollars for a four course meal). Very quaint and intimate dining with linen tablecloths and fantastic service. An eclectic menu of a mixture of French Cajun cuisine does not disappoint. If you're a bread eater, you will have to pull yourself away from the bread basket. The soups are delicious and seasoned to perfection. My fave is the St Tropez. Trying to get out of my comfort zone, on my last visit I ordered the pork tenderloin with raspberry sauce and wild rice. While it was a change for me I can't say I would order it again. The lunch portions are large and filling and well worth the price. The white chocolate bread pudding is amazing and probably the best in town. The creme brûlée is another no brainer. read more
