I suspect that Maine Beer Co. does not wash their lettuce well, if they even wash it at all. On my visit over the weekend, my partner and I found inch worms crawling in our Caesar salad. I went to Maine Beer company last night for a fundraiser and had a great time. It's much bigger than I expected. Lots of inside & outside seating. You probably never have to wait to be seated, which I love! The bartenders are very attentive, knowledgeable and nice, a huge plus. We got pizzas for the event and it was just average, nothing special. Under cooked & underwhelming. I would not order it again. The beer I chose was the Peepers, pretty good, but I'm no beer connoisseur. It was trivia night, we played & won. It was so much fun. I love what they do here. Note - they do not accept tips only donations which are not profit to staff or business which was really cool. I did not know this going in but wish I did because I clicked no to donate thinking I could tip the bartender on next screen but nope. I asked if I could go back to tip she explained to me they don't accept and said don't worry about it. Class act. Dinner is a staple - top rated IPA in the country - highly recommend. My friend who I'm traveling with really wanted to come here as he likes their pizza. Neither one of us is a beer drinker. It is cool that they let you sample the beer. My friend ordered his pizza and then I ordered mine right after him with the same cashier. His came out fairly quickly and mine showed up about 20-25 minutes later with a burnt crust. We had the same table number so why they wouldn't have cooked the pizzas together I don't know. I asked for a refund as I dont like burnt crust. If that's how they do their crusts they should tell you that when you order. The manager was very nice and took care of the refund, she also brought me a new pizza to go with a crust that wasn't burned and insisted that I take it. read more

Easily one of the nicest taprooms I have visited. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Not a huge food menu but we had a house salad and a woodfire pizza and they were great. We also had a soft pretzel with mustard. The pretzel was excellent but I did not like the mustard that came with it. As for the beers, they had mostly IPA and Pale Ale but they did have an Irish stout and an Altbier as well. Great selection of merchandise (Shirts, glasses, etc) as well as bottles of everything on their menu. Definitely recommend visiting Maine Beer Company if you are in the area. read more

Amazing place to stop by, especially after doing some outlet shopping in Maine! A very large brewing company with indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend calling ahead to get reservations if it's the weekend and if you have a large party, otherwise would be fine to walk in. It's a casual, modern place and you can walk up to the bar to order both food and drinks. The 4 flight is $12 and a great way to get a taste of each beer. Would highly recommend the pizzas and food - the pizzas are wood fire cooked and so so good. Every pizza is fantastic. We also ordered the salad just for some greens and was amazing as well with homemade feta and pistachios to add crunch. They've added a gift shop to the right of the entrance so you can purchase souvenirs and shirts from them. You can also purchase beer to take home with you after you're done. Would highly recommend this as a pit stop to shopping or if you're in the area. read more

I'm not the biggest beer drinker, but those in my family who are really enjoy Maine Beer Company's beers. My comments are on some of the menu items. The House Salad is just about the best salad in a restaurant I've ever had. It is very fresh and has interesting ingredients including pistachios, root vegetables and beer mustard vinaigrette for $14 and it is enough for 2-3 people! The sweet and spicy nuts and the warm olives make great snacks! Their pizzas are fantastic! Delicious crust and fresh and interesting toppings. If you get seated upstairs, there's a dart board for something to do while waiting for your pizza to arrive. Beer drinkers or not, try Maine Beer Company for the great food! read more

Stopped for a beer en route to Bar Harbor. Sat at the bar. Staff wasn't very good at multitasking. Took way too long to order food or get another beer because the bartenders are quite oblivious to the patrons and have zero situational awareness. Like hey, the people sitting here need another drink. The people walking up can wait. Nevertheless, had a charcuterie board and a few "prince Percy" lagers. Giant pretzel was great. Bought a sweatshirt on the way out. They have a silly policy where the tips go to "a good cause" whatever that means. Maybe if the employees were directly benefitting from tips they would work better. It's called the carrot and stick approach. I'll donate to charity on my own. read more

We made sure to stop at Maine Beer Company on our trip to Maine. My husband and I drink their beers back home and we were excited to see the brewery and tastes their beers in person. The beer did not disappoint and the brewery itself was awesome. In fact, it's been our favorite brewery stop so far. We were also staying in Portland and 20-25 min drive was definitely worth it. One of my favorite breweries in Maine! Recently renovated and expanded... place is big! Because of covid we were encouraged to make a reservation, arrived a few minutes ahead of time.. no issues we were seated right away. We had a table upstairs overlooking the entire place. We ordered a few pizzas for our group, pepperoni and cheese and a fungo (fontina, wild mushrooms,roasted leeks) pizza was all cooked in a wood pizza oven. Very tasty and paired well with the beer. The beer was amazing, I went with a flight ( 4 for $10) lunch, mo, spring and post ride spring) all were so good but lunch was my favorite.. ipa at 7%. I got some bottles to go and a cool tshirt. For the non beer drinkers like me , they have two wines. You have to order downstairs at the counter and they will bring the food to your table. They also have a small merchandise area and an area where you can buy beers to go. The thin crust pizza (corn, pickled jalapeños and cilantro crema) was elevated and delicious. We have tasted nothing quite like this before and our gamble in ordering this unconventional pizza totally paid off ! Absolute must visit if you are in Portland. We made a stop on our way to Acadia and the brewery was excellent. As a huge beer fan and homebrewer "lunch" was a must have for me and it did not disappoint. The selection is a little more limited than I expected and very ipa / pale ale focused but every beer is super high quality and excellently brewed. "Go to breweries" was a standing agenda item for our trip to Maine in August. Mission accomplished, several times. Luckily, we were able to successfully dodge the looming nearby thunderstorms and stay dry sitting outside the tent, which itself was a reservations-only area. There was also seating inside, but it was very limited - I would love to come back here post-COVID and really experience this brewery because the two-story building looked spectacular on the inside, from what I was able to see. We had a few beers, a couple of different of ales and IPAs, and the Lunch IPA was my favorite. No tastings right now, but pints did us just fine. We were a little hungry, so we ordered some breadsticks, not knowing that the "cheesy breadsticks" are basically a medium pizza with the sauce on the side. It was gigantic, and less than $10. Yes, we certainly had leftovers. Yes, we definitely ate some of them later. Everything was (and I presume continues to be) very COVID-strict, which was great to see. If I lived closer, I would certainly be back more often for a few beers and a year's supply of breadsticks. read more

Just take one look at the pictures and tell me I'm wrong: this restaurant deserves 5+ stars, not only for it's beer selection but it's PIZZA! I was advised by multiple people to visit this place on my way back from Bar Harbor to Portland, after taking a few days to destress from the NYC life. Initially seated outdoors, we asked to sit indoors during a busy time and the staff did their best to accommodate us. We tried a few beers from the tap, including a pilsner and a sour. They also have a few wines by the glass (including montepulciano, sauvignon blanc, and grenache) plus unique draft beers called "peeper" (pale ale 5.5%), "prince percy" (pilsner 5.1%) and Fall (coffee stout 5.6%). The pizza we ordered included cheese and "soppressata & olive" which contained salami, house-made tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, kalamata olives, shaved fennel, and crushed red pepper. Both pizzas were thin crust and easily quenched our hunger as we washed it down with beer. Even for COVID-19, they implemented very safe social distancing measures, requiring people wear their masks when walking between their table and elsewhere. Freeport's Maine Beer Company was ranked 26th by Ratebeer.com's list of the "Best Brewers in the World for the Year 2019." They have takeout and now an outdoor tent for extra seating. Dogs allowed. They are taking reservations, we did not have one, but were able to be seated within 20 min. Not sure if we just lucky or went late enough. You have to go inside and order (no server) but you can be seated at your table ahead of time. They close at 8pm but that is last call, they don't kick you out. To go orders (beers to go) stops a little earlier. Plenty of parking and if parking lot is full there is another overflow lot across the street. read more

My family and I love coming to Freeport every summer and we were so excited to come back to Maine Beer company! We love their beers but this was the first time trying the pizza.
