The yelp ad lured us here and did not disappoint. We are in the area for a wedding this weekend and this was worth the drive. The chicken sandwich was really good. It was way beyond your average pulled chicken. The maple vinaigrette on the house salad was unique and a nice change of pace. 3.5 stars. This was a tricky review to make because the aesthetic of the place is good- trendy. We came right at opening so everything was pretty clean although staff were still roaming around finishing up different tasks. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, gave us sufficient time to look over the menu and checked in enough to not be over-bearing. While we were there, several customers came in to either to order take-out or pick up their take-out. It was awhile before some of them were acknowledged and then there was no real place for them to wait. So everyone was shuffling around awkwardly to make room for incoming customers, while those waiting had to stand in the entrance, near the bar. The food is why we came. The menu photos looked amazing and their facebook page is always getting rave reviews and comments by other customers. We were kind of disappointed. The onion rings had a nice crunch- but it was a lot of batter and not a lot of onion OR flavor. Both of us agreed it need some sort of seasoning. The dipping sauce was okay and a very small portion. My husband was very excited to try the half chicken with their rub- but after two bites said, "This rub is literally like dirt." I tasted it and yes, it had a very grainy feel in your mouth and definitely had an earthy overtone. He said the fries were the star and the white chipotle sauce was good. I got the Southwest salad and added brisket for an additional $4. The brisket itself was pretty good- although for some reason I was expecting it to be in thinner strips, not small chunks. The salad mix itself was very basic. Very... "leafy"- and it absolutely needed more dressing. Overall, I felt underwhelmed and like it was something I could make at home. We aren't dying to go back anytime soon- but if we're ever in the mood, I think I'd like to try their brunch options or maybe a sandwich. read more

Came here a month ago but forgot to leave a review. We sat on the back porch. Some nice outdoor seating. Our food was excellent from start to finish. I wanted to try at least a half dozen things on the menu. Ultimately went with the hornet cheesesteak. Delicious. Service was fantastic as well. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars I would! Such a cool ambiance inside and the food was PHENOMENAL. We were both quite hungry so we ordered the sampler platter and my husband also ordered a bowl of brisket chili and was not disappointed. He's a chili snob and said it was the best chili he's ever had, which says a lot. 4 different homemade sauces - least favorite was cherry bomb but it truly wasn't horrible, just not as amazing as the other 3. The Texas toast served with it was crunchy yet tender. Honestly we took 1/2 of our meals home and look forward to eating them for lunch tomorrow! YUM! Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Cute place with a great deck overlooking the water. Attentive service. The pulled pork was fantastic and didn't require a drop of added sauce beyond what it came with. Brisket had good flavor but was a touch on the dry side. All three sauces were interesting and unique, I had a hard time picking my favorite. Mac & cheese was typical, good but not exciting. I've Visited Main Street Smokehouse 3 times now and will be back for many more! The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and the owners and staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming. I have a summer place about 20 mins away in Union City, and it is SO nice to have a spot like this nearby, as there is pretty much nothing like it in the area. They know how to mix a proper Old Fashioned! The menu is a great blend of traditional BBQ favorites and some other creative spins - I tried the Brisket Bucatini this weekend and it was out of this world. They do a cold-smoked ribeye and put a different spin on it with a different sauce + accompaniments each week. The smoked trout dip is a great appetizer and a great size portion for sharing. I can't wait to try the Sunday brunch soon! The outdoor space is cozy and has a fantastic scenic view of the river. The owners David and Leeza are great, always making sure you are enjoying your food, taken care of and happy to recommend their menu favorites. They always have good rock music playing and I love the vibe with the albums on the walls. Lastly THANK YOU for being open until 11PM on the weekends! They have a limited late night menu starting at 8:30 PM and it's SO nice to have a spot where you can come in for a later evening bite or a few drinks. Pretty much anything else in the surrounding area closes up at 8 or 9, even on weekends in the summer - so I have a feeling I'll be spending plenty of my evenings here after those long days on the lake. read more

Everything was phenomenal. It was very busy, but we got a table in no time. We ordered our food and even with it being as busy as it was, it really didn't take long at all. The food was amazing. The lamb meatballs are to die for and the egg rolls are incredible. We also had the smokehouse sampler to get a taste of all the different meats and they were all super good. Small town Mendon is nestled next to the St. Joseph River amid rolling farmlands that stretches as far as the eye can see. Main Street Smokehouse is situated in a historic looking building in downtown Mendon with waterside dining available. It was a slow day today for the Smokehouse except for a local business meeting. Yet I was optimistic when I spotted the smokers on the east side of the place. Smelled good too! We settled on ordering the Smokehouse sampler with Coleslaw and Smash Potato Fries to get a good idea about the menu items available. The Pulled pork was very good and almost melt-in-your-mouth perfect with a very good sauce added on. The Brisket was sliced and had a very good flavor. Now, the Ribs were probably the best item on the plate and our waitress stated that they were a customer favorite. The slaw was very tasty and refreshing for the palate although the fries were a bit ho-hum. All in all we enjoyed our meal riverside and plan on returning with family someday. read more

Went for Sunday brunch. Not too busy. Just a little too cold for the outdoor patio overlooking the river which looks charming. Service was really spot on from Mindy and I could see the one other waitress was equally attentive to her customers. No smoking of meat going on and I got the impression that the 4 hours open on Sunday was to sell the leftover bbq from the previous week. The food was still decently prepared and I would say ok bbq. The wife got eggs Benedict with pork belly could have used some sort of side like potatoes or fruit. Not sure I would go again as there is good bbq much closer Stubbys or Barrett's. The sauces had been left out on the counter seemingly for a long time , I'm a "refrigerate it" person. So just OK for our first experience. read more

This restaurant is perfect for a date night or special occasion! We were treated like our presence mattered from the time we walked in the door. The owner came over to our table frequently to check on us, and our server was very attentive as well. We loved the charcuterie board options for an appetizer because we were in the mood for something light as a starter. Our entrees were delicious! Had heard good things, expected a great meal, not so good at all. My mother made reservations for my father's birthday. 14 of us. We arrived to find they put our party downstairs outside on an enclosed (plastic sheets) deck at a table with benches. Mind you this is November with the temperature below 50 degrees. The electric space heaters did little to reduce the chill as we sat with coats on through dinner. It took an hour to get the first order taken. Because of the size of our party (made reservations) they would take our order in 3 parts. Food was finally served to part three two and half hours after arriving. The menu was limited by several items as not available, substituting a 1/4 chicken for a 1/2 chicken, and out of ribs, at a smoke house. Again a reservation was made for a "large" party. Once the last food was served it came out luke warm and cold. It was such an awful experience it could have been the best smoked meat this side of the Mississippi and it wouldn't have mattered. To make up for the delay gave a party of fourteen three free deserts and a pair of appetizer gift cards. At one point the waitress came to the table in tears she was so upset. As the last of the food arrives the room inside had emptied and we watch children (under the of 8 my guess) cleaning tables and stringing chairs into a lines inside as if it were their play room. If a restaurant can't handle a party greater than 8 then don't take the reservation. Stay away if your expectations are anything above a college bar (at least it wouldn't have children playing) or smoker on the back of a pickup (food is likely to be hot and fast). read more

Very disappointed in the quality of food. We started with the pork belly appetizer. It was tough and chewy, with no taste of being smoked. For our mains, we had brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. While very tender, the brisket had no smoke ring, and the excessive saltiness made it seem like they tried to achieve "smoked" flavor by using liquid smoke. The ribs were over half fat. The pulled pork did not have any taste of smoke or anything "bbq" about it, rather it seemed like something from a crockpot. We had to ask for BBQ sauce. There were four to try. The sweet and smoky and the cherry were not anything that resembled BBQ sauce. The Carolina was just watered down grainy mustard, but was the most palatable. We did not try the fourth. For sides, we had Mac and Cheese and coleslaw. The Mac and Cheese tasted like premade cheese sauce. The coleslaw was decent, honestly the most appetizing part of the meal. Our drinks (iced tea and water) were not refilled during our meal, despite us being one of two tables that were occupied. We were given a box to take over half of our uneaten dinners home. After months of watching this place become established, decided to try it out. The atmosphere is small and has a classic rock music vibe. The table and menus were sticky, although we saw the tables being cleaned. We ordered a couple of the specialty cocktails. While they were very good, they were very small and overpriced for what we got. We decided to order several things and share. The onion rings were good, especially the sauce that came with them. We wish we had more of that sauce, as the serving size was very small. The Inferno chicken sandwich was very good, although messy, very messy. The chips were great, and they could have been even better with some of that sauce that came with the onion rings. The biggest disappointment of the night was the brisket. I was served 3 small pieces that were incredibly dry and chewy. They had no flavor and required a lot of the BBQ sauce to make them edible. As a "smoke house" I would have been embarrassed to serve this to a customer. We had the mac n' cheese as a side, and it was dry and had very little flavor. Our service was pretty slow, another reason for the low review. I had to ask for refills of drinks and water, even though the server was nearby the table the entire time and there were very few other tables full in the restaurant. The nail in the coffin for this place was that I ended up getting sick for the next 2 days. Usually this happens because of cheap vegetable/soy oil used in a restaurant. If I am oddly craving that chicken sandwich, I may be tempted to come back and order it or get it for takeout. However, I will leave the rest of it.... Given that I live close and there are not really any other options out this way, I really wish it had better. read more
