They recently opened up for the 2013 season and they're already disappointing their loyal customers.
In large print near the order window, they give the prices for the various sized cones. Yet, the counter worker gives a bigger price. Why? Well, the small (VERY small) print informs the customers that FLAVOR is EXTRA! How much EXTRA? 35 Cents!
Now, I'd like to know. When have you ever had to pay EXTRA for FLAVOR? And, exactly what is an ice cream cone without flavor? What are the NON-FLAVORS?
They should be above such deceitful BS and just raise the cost of their cones outright instead of playing games with the pricing. It's too much like Bait N' Switch, the way they're doing it now. Who doesn't want a 'flavor' of one type or another? Is vanilla a flavor? Chocolate? It's ridiculous. A rip-off!
I've supported them for years. I won't be going back. I'd rather drive 20 minutes out of town and know what I'm getting at a set price without any pricing games at the counter window.
There's a great soft ice cream service at the No. Ferrisburgh Mobile station, A&W Root Beer in Middlebury (get a root beer float while you're at it) and generous cones at a reasonable price at Goodie's (south of Wag's when heading to NY).
It's a shame that local businesses try to nickel and dime the community. Their ice cream is just that - ice cream! It's nothing special. Certainly nothing worth holding a cone hostage over for 35 lousy cents. read more
