    06.10.23 cookies and ice cream!

Homemade Gourmet Cookies [N Ferrisburgh VT] I saw this cookie shop on the way to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in VT... we stopped by on our drive back to NY. I bought some cookies for the road... the drive was some two hours back to Albany. We walked up to the first window where we placed our orders. The cookie flavors were written and displayed on a portable folding sign. It was hard to choose... so many yummy flavors! We finally decided on 2 each of the First Love (chocolate chip) and Forbidden Love (with white and chocolate chips). We picked up our order on the next window. The gals were sweet (pun intended). Good service. We love the cookies... soft and not too sweet. Loved the names they chose for their cookies. They all had something to do with "love," Puppy Love - peanut butter chocolate chip Mother's Love - chocolate chip w/ butterscotch Addicted to Love - mocha chocolate chip True Love - oatmeal and dried cranberries Enduring Love - coconut, oatmeal, choc chip, almonds, dried cranberries Also sold are the classics: Snickerdoodles, Sugar Cookies and wheat-free chocolate chip... and ice cream! Coffee and maple syrup twist creemie (softserve)
    J K.

I found this place on the way back from Burlington to the bridge to New York. I had to stop in to have a Vermont creemie. I got coffee & maple syrup twist creemie (soft serve) on a cake cone (wafer cone) and was very content. Loved the fun names they gave to all their toppings .. and cookies. Loved to see they say ice creams were made from happy cows. Next time I will try their cookies. My expectations are high!

The best creemee in Vermont. The cookies are delicious but the creemee's!! So many flavors of cookies and ice cream.. also they have the most amazing coffee milkshakes with a shot of espresso. Or go classic and have an affogato.

Coffee Maple Twist with Cookie Crumbles

Some of the best cremees near Burlington in my opinion. The coffee maple twist is delicious, and is great if you add cookie crumbles on top. Staff was nice, and the outdoor seating was clean.

The best maple creemee... what more can you ask for??
    Rebeka M.

Their cookies were so good, but the maple creemee was off the damn chain. I would say this tied for first with Morse Maple Farm as far as creemees were concerned. The maple flavor was very present but not overwhelming and the ice cream was very smooth and creamy. Perfection! The maple iced latte was a banger too. Don't skip out on this place! So glad we passed by on the road and waited for them to open for the day! Well worth it!

Visit Date: September 3, 2020 We took a long drive to get to this cookie stand. My hubs picked out cookies for his mom and a half dozen to eat including one of their gluten free options for me. We both grabbed coffee and our son may have had some ice cream but I'm not sure. They have a large variety of cookie options and are a very unique little shop.

Loved our maple creemees (soft serve) and maple walnut hard ice cream. While waiting in line we heard the person behind us say they didn't like the maple ones. Glad we didn't listen. We all loved it. Walk up only and picnic bench seating on the outside.

If you love your sweets like I do, you should stop here! We hiked Snake Mountain, so this was our reward! Bought even extra cookies to take home! Several different types to choose from!

Very substantial large ice cream, bigger than others have served me in the city. The flavor here of the maple is the best I've had yet.

Donnelly's Ice Cream - Flavor of the Day - Chocolate twisted with Vanilla

So glad to have been tipped off about this place by a local! Hugely popular but tiny ice cream…read moreplace where they only have one machine. As a result, every day is a different flavor. Today's was a peach/vanilla twist. Lemme tell you, this was the most delicious ice cream I have eaten in a long time. Creamy, flavorful and served with a smile. Get there early as the line can get really long, but since the only options seem to be cup, cone, shake or hot fudge sundae, decisions are made quickly and the line moves. No photo, as I dove into it quickly.

We made the short drive up from Ampersand Bay Resort to sweeten up a Sunday night before our big hike to Mt. Marcy, and Donnelly's didn't disappoint. What makes it so unique? Simplicity. This place runs with the "In-N-Out" model -- do a few things and do them well. Your only decision is cup or cone, and what size. The real twist (pun intended) is that they offer one flavor combo per day, served as a twist. That's it. No exceptions. It's kind of got that "Soup Nazi" vibe from Seinfeld -- so be sure to check their Facebook page to see the daily flavor before you go. On our visit, the flavor was Chocolate twisted with Vanilla -- classic and crowd-friendly, which worked well for our small but mighty hiking crew. The night before, though, was Chocolate & Peppermint, which I probably would've vetoed. Honestly, I'd love to see them offer two flavors per night to avoid that scenario -- but hey, the place was busy, even on a cool, overcast evening, so clearly their model works. Another standout feature? The shape. Most soft serve comes with a tall spiral and a little point on top. Donnelly's? Not even close. Their cones are round and a bit flat on top -- totally different. At first I thought, "Why?" but it actually works. It gives the cone a nice texture and may even help slow down melting. Whatever the reason, it adds to the charm. The vibe is classic small-town ice cream stand. Tiny building, nostalgic energy, no frills -- just good ice cream and friendly service. The staff couldn't have been nicer -- welcoming in that warm, small-town way that makes you want to support the place even more. Parking was easy out front, and even though the line was steady, it moved quickly. Bottom line: If you're in the area, Donnelly's is a must-stop. Just don't forget to check that daily flavor before you make the drive!

My heart does not usually go pitter patter over fast food. Sadly, Canteen Creemee flew under my…read moreradar for the longest time after its 2016 opening, as a result. I was fooled by the burgers, fries, chili, chicken nuggets, and soft serve on the menu (similar to what its mediocre predecessor served at Country Creemee), and thought it was the same standard issue Sysco fare available at every other joint in town. But, my friends, learn from my mistake: Canteen Creemee is so much more than that. It doesn't serve just any old fast food. There is exceptional slow food on the menu that's made with care (if not always complete authenticity). It just happens to be served very quickly after you order it. There's the Straight Outta Bangkok. ($12; Menu description: "Anan traveled from Bangkok to spend his summer with us here at the CCC. So, this green curry is the real deal! Our fried chicken with Anan's coconut green curry served over rice. It's a little Sweet and a little Spicy!!!") Truth be told, I'm not entirely sure this dish is the real deal, lacking as it is in heat, pungency (e.g. from fish sauce), and identifiable vegetable matter. But no matter. Canteen Creemee's version is absolutely delicious, the chicken beautifully fried and beautifully crisp; the jasmine rice fragrant and silky; the sauce redolent with the heady scent of lemongrass. We found it to be a phenomenally good anodyne to a cold winter's day and eight hours of hardcore mogul skiing through a snowstorm. Actually, all of their fried chicken dishes are glorious. We happen to live near Charles' Pan Fried Chicken in NYC, which I would probably rank among the best sources of fried bird in the northeastern US. (I also grew up in the south with exposure to some pretty darn good fried chicken, so I flatter myself to think I have some informed opinions.) Canteen Creemee serves a different style, not quite as crusty, but as ethereally light and crispy and juicy as fried chicken can be. I think it might be every bit as good as Charles -- just in a very different style. Since the beginning, the menu has intrigued with traces of kimchi in interesting places: Kimchi grilled cheese, kimchi tots, and now kimchi stew. Again, if you're an authenticity stickler, you might be disappointed. There isn't quite the funk or heat that you might find in kimchi from the homeland, but those Dirty K-tots ($11.50; "Tahts loaded with our smoked pork, housemade kimchi, spicy mayo, cilantro, scallions.....") are a college kid's wet dream, the perfect food to accompany anything from Natty Light to Citizen Cider. Each component is made with care, the tots beautifully golden and crisp, the smoked pork tender as can be. Cabbage kimchi (made with standard issue green cabbage from I can tell) adds a pleasant touch of acid. I usually despise mayo based sauces, but the spicy mayo that was drizzled on our takeout order in moderation was not objectionable. I guess based on my expectations, I did not love the Jjigae Pork Belly Kimchi Stew ($14.00; "The flavors are clean, healthy and hearty! The spice is nice to warm you from the inside out on a cold winter day. Our house fermented kimchi is the base for this stew. Braised pork belly atop steamed rice with kimchi stew AND a runny side up egg.") Many of the components were nicely prepared, the pork belly tender as could be, the runny yolk a nice touch... And there was even a credible amount of heat in the dish. But we were hoping for something a little more stewy and less ricey, maybe with some tofu added. To be fair, kimchi jigae / chigai is a huge comfort food for me and I guess I'm hidebound about how I want it. It is objectively well made and delicious. There's no dining in, only a take-out counter located next to Mehuron's in Waitsfield's Village Square, with some picnic tables set out in warm weather (e.g. not in Dec, Jan and February when we are usually in the area). Don't be a fool and let this stop you from enjoying some truly interesting, innovative, well made comfort food all year round.
