Give that kid a Gold Star - he is my server for life at Red OAK. He took care of us with a smile and quick service, what a shining star they got when they hired him! Now for the food - mercy is all I can say - the biscuits were out of this world - flaky, fluffy and fabulous! I got the Breakfast special and everything on the plate was perfect - the bacon was nice and crisp, hash browns were golden and egg really over easy - cooked to perfection. THE Pancakes - eyes rolling back in head - the biggest, fluffy golden brown things you have every seen and the syrup came in a glass carafe that warm syrup was an extra special touch. The coffee was their own brand and the flavors were Pecan and Cinnamon, very smooth, and very hot and refilled often. Do yourself a favor and go to Red Oak Cafe in League City on Main Street and ask for Sal and get ready for a great expericence and excellent food and service! Now I thought that the apple slices come on the side right? Nope, they were cooked in the sandwich. I don't know who came up with the concept of adding the apples into the sandwich, but whatever; I've tasted weirder things. Still, the sandwich didn't taste bad; that's just a weird concept in my opinion. The worst part of our service was the server. She didn't exactly introduce herself, but she did ask how we were with an apathetic tone. Like I said, she didn't tell us her name. Only way I can describe her is she wore eyeliner, red lipstick, and her blonde hair in a clip. During our visit to the restaurant, she just seemed like she hated her job and was emotionally constipated. When I wanted to substitute a side order of white chicken chili with the Grown-Up grilled cheese (I knew there would be an upcharge), she told me in a somewhat aggravated voice that there would be an upcharge. I told her calmly that I understood as the menu had specified. The only time she came by was to ask if we were done with our plates or needed a coffee refill, but not on how the food tasted. But yes, our server was probably the worst part of our visit. I've met Russians who were less cold than our server. I probably won't return unless the server gets an attitude adjustment or just leaves.

Our waitress, Natalie, came shortly after, introduced herself & confirmed the appetizers. We were brought 4 small cubes of banana bread, which felt weird since there were 7 of us. My toddler & my niece both had a whole one. The other two were split between 4 adults. My brother-in-law didn't have any. The appetizers came out fairly quickly & were gone just as fast. We finally ordered right at 2:00 after a little wait & indecisiveness. Then my son was done sitting in a highchair. My husband and brother-in-law took the kids outside. They played for a bit & walked two laps around the whole strip center. They came back, still no food. My son had a complete meltdown since he was both hungry & now tired, my brother-in-law asked if there was any way they could just rush my son's food. They did and he started eating, everyone was so hungry that they had some bites of his food as well. My mom went to ask the manager if our food was close to being ready. The answer was no, there was a whole list of orders ahead of ours. The manager was kind enough to bring us some spinach dip & apologized for the wait, explaining she was dreading today because the kitchen wasn't equipped for the Easter crowd. She assured us that they were working as fast as possible & we appreciated her honesty & effort. My mom went to her car & asked us to let her know when her food came. Our food finally started arriving at 3:17, and not all at once. My sister's meal came last. By this time my son was done & was getting restless while we had JUST started eating. The food itself was disappointing. My sister and I both ordered Benedicts. Mine (Boudin Benny) wasn't hot and was mushy instead of seared. Both of our poached eggs were undercooked. My sister's also had a large amount of cream cheese that wasn't listed and didn't taste good. Other issues: my mom's fries were cold, my brother-in-law said his chicken fried steak was no good. He ate it because he was hungry, and while my husband liked his sandwich & was happy with it, his fries were cold. My niece enjoyed her burger. My son's shrimp, fries, & macaroni were all hot and good... likely because they were rushed for him. It was 3:45 by the time we left. They close at 3. We received a 40% discount, but there was also a 20% automatic gratuity added, which some in our party didn't expect. Here's where they earn stars back... Natalie was great! She took great care of us & kept apologizing for the delay. We could tell that she felt bad, but it was not her fault. The manager also came by checking on us multiple times & got us settled as best she could. She brought us spinach dip while we waited & she made sure that my toddler got food very quickly after being asked about it. She did thank us multiple times for our kindness & patience. As did Natalie. I too, was appreciative of the kindness they showed us. Most of us have all worked in food service before & we understand that the wait staff can only do so much. We also understand being slammed in the kitchen & how fast paced they have to work in order to handle rushes. I appreciate the 40% discount... 20% after the tip. This review was based on one trip & I will update my review if/when I return. But this visit was definitely not a great experience & if it weren't for the kindness, I'd be leaving one star.

Their website says CATFISH PIECES, it's literally HALF of what a standard 3 piece catfish order would be at other places, so ONE AND HALF catfish. Absolutely ridiculous. Mind you the $27 does not include a drink, bread, or a daiquiri in the total price, just the food that you see in the picture, sans some of the fries that I ate. If I ever come back here again, it would only be for the daiquiri. I was disappointed in the catfish flavor, size and cost. It wasn't a big deal for me since my toddler eats pretty much anything, so we shared. It WAS however a big deal for my 6 year-old niece who does NOT eat anything. They told my sister that they could make some butter noodles or take the harissa off of a pizza and make it a smaller size for her. She opted for the butter noodles which were bland and unseasoned. Then they have no salt or pepper on the tables so she couldn't even season them until she asked for some. It helped, but they still weren't very good. 2. The food is overpriced. It's good food, but the prices were a little steep compared to the quality. My sister and I discussed this later and we both had the same thought. We didn't understand why they weren't busy because they had the potential to be, and it just felt like they maybe were trying TOO hard. I would go back, but this wouldn't be a regular choice for me. I'd be happy to go if someone chose this as an option, and I might even choose to go back for a date night or something. I like the atmosphere of the place as well as how open it felt... I don't love a crowded space. Another thing I loved was the Smoked Caramel Bread Pudding. I'm surprised I liked it so much because I don't typically love added smoke flavor, but this worked! Listen, I LOVE bread pudding. If there's ever bread pudding on the menu, I'm going to get it. This being my birthday dinner dessert was absolutely fine by me.
