Usually we don't expect too much because coming here is pretty straight forward, but tonight's experience really took the cake. A night of simple bowling turned into an example of why you need to watch your gift cards like a hawk and make sure the employees do their job. We had gift cards we wanted to use to pay for our drinks and the server Ruben told us there was no balance, and when we questioned that he insisted there was nothing and printed out a receipt that showed a zero balance and was silent for the rest of the interaction. Alright, I get it, he's obviously done dealing with people for the night but way to make it rude when it doesn't need to be. We paid with a credit card and when we were on our way out we asked the guy at the front desk to check the balance on the card and lo and behold, there's a balance! A real miracle in December! Anyways, so we were really confused and wanted to talk to a manager and relay the experience because the guy made a mistake and possibly talk about getting a refund and using the card. Well the manager is right next to the guy at the desk, so the guy tells him we want to talk to him and he just says "I'll be right back" and walks away. Keep in mind he was there the entire time we were explaining what happened, so that, in combination with his body language just made us feel like he didn't really care to hear it. Was the server just trying to get us to toss the gift cards away or was it a mistake? We will never know and who knows how many people will do the same and lose money they had. The manager isn't gonna help you though so don't look there for help! I will say the guy at the front desk was polite and helpful and our interaction with him was totally fine. Many parents use the Main Event as their babysitter. They drop their tweens or teenage kids there and come back at night! So, don't be surprised if the place is completely overrun by kids of the ages 8 to 15, who act obnoxious! Also, DO NOT go for the video games! If you're an adult and like those games, go to Dave & Buster's where you'll get MUCH more for your money and the video games at D&B are way cooler. Go for the laser tag! You may play a bunch of 5 to 8 year olds, but they are an easy-win. My husband, son (15 y.o) and daughter (11 y.o.) are undefeated, and have play about 5 times. The bowling is no better than what you would expect at a regular bowling lanes, but its LOUDER and has horrible pop-music that makes you wish you were deaf. Basically, if you go as an adult, there will not be many others of your type there, if you want more of an adult-environment and better video games, go to Dave & Busters, but if you want to have a blast with laser tag, do some rock climbing, and play a game of cheap glow golf, this is your place! read more

But now I am wondering what the liability is like re: people potentially stupid-drunk being allowed to climb a rock wall. pro: Free billiards during happy hour time on Sunday evenings, and the mini 18 hole glow-in-the-dark-golf is only $5/person after 5pm as well. Main Event is good if you and someone else or a few other people are extremely bored and literally have nothing else to do. The arcade games are limited and all very similar to eachother and get old fast, but are fun enough to kill some time. The indoor golfing wasn't worth it. It is dark and everything is painted brightly to glow under a blacklight. It was cool for awhile, but by mid course I was ready to be done, every single hole was almost the same as the last one, and I was very disoriented and dizzy from all the blacklight colors. The lazer tag was pretty cool, and is especially good for people who come in big groups, because you play in teams. Plus its the only lazer tag place besides Blazer Tag in Austin that I still know about. read more

The few times Ive been here are usually for company events. There is so much to do that you really cant be bored at all. Bowling, lazer tag, mini golf, arcade games, wall climb, and a full bar. The waitstaff here is usually on point but the bartenders here are superb! Service for a drink is quick and when I ask for recommendations, theyre good about making something that suits me. The food service sometimes can be slow as the kitchen gets backed up really fast. Bowling on weekend nights can get very backed up so if you havent renewed your lane in the beginning, they wont allow you to do so once they are on a waitlist. read more

It's hard not to have fun at Main Event. I'm not sure of the standard prices, but one cannot go wrong going after 4 PM on a Monday - if you pay $20 you get a $10 game card, bowling, glow golf, laser tag, billiards and rock climbing. Two friends and I went to see just how good of a deal this was - and it was outstanding. We took advantage of everything except the laser tag (huge waiting list) and ended up spending about 4 hours there (that flew right by). The good thing about it is that the Monday deal seems to be relatively well-known, meaning there are a lot of people there on Mondays, whether they're families, teens, college kids, after-work people, etc. It's a great big mix of ages, which makes for good people-watching at every turn. I've gone on nights other than Wednesdays and still had a GREAT time but M.E. can get very expensive very quickly if you've not bought into a deal, so be aware of that when you're not taking advantage of specials. The food's okay (typical of bowling alleys; mostly greasy stuff that's par for the course at places like it) the drinks are pretty good (the cocktails in the bar are standard, the alcoholic smoothies and margaritas are not strong at all, and it's all about average price for an amusement park-type place... some of the drinks do get into more expensive range, though), and the rest of it is just sensory overload, in a good way. If you want to feel like a kid again, this is a good place to go. Pros: -Lots of different games -Lots of people of all ages, backgrounds, etc. -Good deals in their specials packages -Staff is friendly Cons: -Having lots of people around means the staff is going to be busy - they may not get to you as soon as you'd like -At least 3 or 4 games are broken every time. Their advertising was misleading, they made no effort to own up to their error, and they wouldn't even let us partake in some of the activities we'd paid for because there were too many people ahead of us. For that I might have given them two stars, except that they insist on their website that one of their values is "Exceed Guest Expectations". So they lose a star for throwing around words cheaply without really meaning them. The advertising for their Columbus Day special said: "From open to 4pm, pay only $15.95 per person for unlimited bowling, billiards, laser tag and more. From 4pm to close, pay ONLY $2 more per person for the same all-you-can-play." We took that to mean what it said: That starting at 4pm we could pay $2 more per person for the same all-you-can-play. But in fact, if you've already got the $15.95 passes, then at 4pm you have to pay $17.95 extra per person in order to keep playing (!), not $2. Further, we had to skip some activities, because every activity had a waiting list, and you couldn't even get on the list if the first slot was too far after the 4pm session switch. That is, if you tried to sign up at 3:00pm for an activity, and the next available slot was at 4:30pm, then too bad, you lose. -------------------------------------- Here are the details about the $2 vs. $17.95 price to continue playing at 4pm: When we arrived at 1pm and the cashier said that we'd have to pony up an extra $17.95 each starting at 4pm, I pulled up the website on my phone and showed how him how it said "from 4pm to close, pay ONLY $2 more per person for the same all you can play". Another customer in line helpfully offered, "I saw that on the website, too." The cashier said that the wording meant that the $17.95 you have to pay at 4pm is $2 more than the $15.95 you pay for the earlier session. He admitted that the promo was worded poorly, but said they have no control over how Corporate does the marketing. Maybe so, but why should the customer suffer? They could have either honored what Corporate had described, or else offered us some kind of compromise deal, but instead they offered nothing. That doesn't "Exceed Guest Expectations"; it doesn't even come close to meeting them. When I got home and checked the site again, I saw that elsewhere the marketing was clearer: that there are two separate sessions, each with its own distinct price. That's why most customers weren't misled, because they saw that other wording. However, the wording should have been clear in *every* place, because some customers (like me and the one behind me in line) will see only one set of wording, and if it's wrong, then that's a potential for an unhappy customer. (Notice that that's only a *potential* at that point: what turned us into actual unhappy customers was when they didn't make any effort to rectify their mistake for us.) I do note that they no longer use the "pay only $2 more" wording on similar promos. Maybe enough other customers were misled by the old wording, as we were. I wanted to like this place, but this experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. --------------------- UPDATE: If I hadn't given them one star already for the bad service, they'd get a one-star for the pathetic "apology" below: "We apologize if the wording in the marketing promotion was misconstrued." We came with a group of 20+ on a Sunday night. The experience was a disappointment from the start. First the service for food was slow and unorganized. Second the food was horrible. It was the equivalent of taco bell for 5x the price. When we went to pay for the bowling lanes the girl behind the counter had no idea what she was doing and that was a disaster just to pay. We paid $80 for 2 lanes and shoes for one hour and 11 bowlers. We were almost done with one of our games when the timer ran out. We requested a few more minutes just to finish our game and the CS rep told us it would be an extra $22.00 ! Now I could understand this If the place was packed but there were probably only 2 other lanes running. So to sum it up we paid $300 for poor food , poor service and 90% of one full game. I had a good time here celebrating my friend's birthday. We went on a Monday night. The parking lot has so many spaces, I imagine it gets pretty busy here on the weekends. There's a lot to do here. The highlight for me was bowling and the arcade. The arcade is pretty up to date with the latest technologies. This place is fun...period. I had my birthday celebration here last year and had a complete blast! This is a HUGE complex, the website says over 75,000 sq ft, of really cool, fun stuff to do. Walking in, you see an expanse of pool tables and a couple of shuffleboard tables on your right and a wall of bowling lanes straight ahead. The wall above the bowling lanes is painted in flourescent colors, so when the lights dim and the blacklights come on, it acquires an almost eerie glow...an amazing one, though. Once you get past all of that, you come to an area jam packed with video games, including such awesome hits as Dance Dance Revolution and some virtual reality stuff. Behind the video games is an incredible two story laser tag arena as well as a glow golf (think mini golf) place. They also have a really big rock climbing wall...I have yet to brave that one. You have to pay for each activity that you participate in and, I'll admit, it is kind of pricey on weekends. During the week, they have some really good bargains, though. Tuesdays feature half price night...bowling, laser tag, glow golf, video games, and pool for half price. There's Monday night fever where you get a combination of things for a mere $10. Check out the website for more stuff...there's too much to list. They also have food and the all important bar. The food is acceptable, not spectacular, but I don't usually come here to eat anyway. They have a decent selection of beer, including Bud Light (yuk) in a bowling pin bottle and Fat Tire, my personal favorite. For the non beer drinkers, they have a full bar as well. Main Event offers birthday parties and celebration rooms, which are also kind of pricey to rent out. My suggestion, just show up with a bunch of people, it seems like it's always more fun that way anyway! read more

OMG the laser tag was so much fun and my husband & I took out so many screaming 9 year old little girls!! They didn't know what hit them.. Muwhahaha :) The bowling was great, the dark lights, music and the arcade. We played alot of games, and felt like kids ourselves. We plan to go back this summer and play more. Got there around midnight on a Saturday night. Place was pretty dead even though they are open until 2am. Went to the bar for a drink and the female bartender repeatedly ignored me for guys walking up. Maybe she was afraid she wouldn't get a good tip from a girl? The lady who finally did serve me got a good tip. Unfortunately, the drink was terrible and overpriced. A lot of the machines don't work and finding someone to help you is a bit difficult. When finally getting a hold of someone, they resolved the issue. I think the place needs new staff and a new image. Would be a great place! read more

This review is for the rock climbing. I've been climbing here a few times and really enjoyed it. They have a lot of different walls, so I've never had to wait to climb. They have about 8 beginning routes and then a variety of harder ones that get progressively more difficult. You can also follow the colors to make a route easier or harder. There was a promotion where you could pay $5 for unlimited climbing, but they aren't doing that anymore unfortunately. I still think the prices are fair, especially if you don't have your own gear because they provide shoes and harnesses. Oh, they have an automatic belay system. I kind of like that actually, because I don't have to worry someone waiting on me below. The Monday special is also really cool. You play a small flat fee and can play a bunch of different things all night. read more

I've been to Main Event many times, mostly on Monday nights when they have unlimited arcade play for $10. The only arcade game I play there is DDR, and honestly, even with the unlimited play deal, it's only really worth it if I play doubles the whole night (i.e., where one player plays across both pads). During the summer, the place is overrun with people who are under 18, and they usually run out of the unlimited arcade passes around 7:00 PM on Monday nights until they kick out the under 18 crowd at 10:00 PM. I had the bad luck to be in the establishment when some kid pulled the fire alarm, and everyone had to evacuate while they shut down the venue for the rest of the night. After several months of putting up with the cheesy music, the horribly maintained DDR machine, and the younger crowd, I've decided to just do Monday evenings at Einstein's Arcade. Granted, you can't drink alcohol in there, but that's better for any DDR players out there since you should stay hydrated! The verdict: Main Event is just okay. I'm not a big fan of these kinds of spots (like D&B) anyway, but at least there is a large selection of stuff to do. read more

There's as much to hate here as there is to like. Every time I start to have a good time, I'm suddenly reminded why I swear I'll never come here again and why I have to apologize every time I mention that I'm going to be here. The Monday night $10 unlimited use of the facilities is a hell of a deal. The rock climbing area is one of the best in Austin. The laser tag is actually pretty nice and the bowling lanes are more than acceptable. But don't try to get anything to eat here. Not only is the food terrible, the service is even worse. I've often wondered if my drinks or my food will arrive first and even guessed wrong a few times. The eating areas are often disgustingly dirty as well -- I've watched a table with an overturned drink sit there for hours. Forget about the video games too. I'd say 85% of them are broken or non-functional in some way. Even the ones that are playable often show extreme wear and poor or nonexistant repair. There's maybe one or two games really worth playing, and they're all quarter eaters. Do not even bother with the motion simulation ride. You won't realize until you're strapped in and it's too late that the CRT inside has lived a hard life and only gives you an idea of what you should be seeing. The putt-putt area is similarly in poor repair. Many of the holes are uninspired but since the obstacles aren't secured, you can mix and match and create your own course. I guess that's a plus, but you'll still long for a properly designed course and one that hasn't been ruined by unsupervised juvenile delinquents. Oh yeah, don't pay too much attention to the crowd, or go on the aforementioned Monday night, because there's no telling what you'll get. Might be meth head rednecks, might be teenage hoodlums with no curfew, or it might be people like you ... wondering why you're here on a Monday night. Drink more. Play some laser tag. Throw a ball at some pins. Go climb some walls. ... oh wait, you can't do that if you've been drinking. You know what, just don't tell anyone, it's not like the staff is really all that aware or concerned with anything else in the place. read more

Well. This is a 3 star experience at best. I went here with my company for a work outing. The stars belong to the happy staff we encountered. I quickly realized this is great for kids, though...(which made me wonder.) The bowling was the funnest for me. The laser tag was alright. The food was pretty basic. The drinks were just fine. The prices are mostly reasonable. The issue I had was that the photo booth was out of order. Many games did not work, too. We did get unlimited soda. Ha. I agreed to go rock climbing with a friend, why, I'll never know... When he told me that it was going to be at Main Event, the only thing I could think of was Celebration Station. Anyone remember that? I had heard about Main Even through friends. They were always having their kids birthday there, or taking their kids to a birthday there, or picking their kids up from Main Event, etc., etc.... I immediately thought of small children, the smell of urine, and had a deep regret for agreeing to this outing. The price was good though. Less than $10 for an hour of rock climbing? Sure, I'll try it. We get there and the facility was immaculate! No urine smell! A few kids running around, but get this: they were all attended too! I know, right? We pay, and they tell us when the next time for rock climbing was going to be, which was only about 10 minutes away. We sit and chat for awhile, then a girl comes up and asks if we need help with instructions on how to put the harness on. Free tutorials! All right! Another perk was that you didn't have to pay to "rent" the harness or shoes, they're provided for you. I like it when there's no hidden fees. They also took time to give you a run down of how to properly work your harness, and which areas had what level of difficulty. Everyone there was really nice. There was one girl who I think was giving lessons (??) to a couple of young boys. She was so sweet and encouraging. She also made sure that those two never left her sight. I'd highly recommend this place to people with kids! My only complaint would be that I wish there was more room for rock climbing. It was a little crowded, and apparently I don't like to climb in close quarters, but I know I'll be back regardless. read more

This was my first time at Main Event. The place offers bowling, billiards, mini golf, laser tag, and arcade games all under one roof which is a really smart idea. I came here on a Saturday night (10ish) with 7 friends to play mini golf. Surprisingly there wasn't that many people. We each payed $7 for mini golf -- you get a putter and a ball. The course is an indoor-glow in the dark that consists of your typical 18 holes. The course is pretty short and easy with most of the holes being par 2 and par 3 being the max difficulty. I was surprised how fast our group was able to get through the course considering the size of our group (about 1.5 hr) and I never felt like we were being rushed or had wait to get onto the next hole. We probably held up the people who were playing behind us because our group was so large. All-in-all I had an enjoyable experience at Main Event. read more

Hi, so I called Main Event to book a birthday celebration for my teen and his friends. First I called like 8-9 times with questions and no one picked the phone. Finally I left a message for party extension and immediately got somebody. After discussing various party options they said they have a teen package of unlimited games and 2 hrs arcade with wings, beef sliders, fries and doughnut holes. I said sounds good but half the kids as well as us the hosts don't eat meat coUld they substitute the food. The lady said they can remove the wings(no substitution) and they could do veggie sliders for vegetarian kids. She said she would confirm with her manager and let me know. Then she called and left me a message that her manager said they could do no substitution at all and they could remove all wings and all sliders and I would have to pay extra for any vegetarian food I wanted. I called back and confirmed this with 2nd lady who answered my call. I asked if I could speak to a manager for consideration since I had already unfortunately confirmed with my child. She said sure my sales manager will call yOu back. I got a call back from same person I spoken with 1st! I verified if it was same person with same name , she said yes I am same person BUT now she said she is the manager and spoke very sternly that they cannot consider anything and will not make any accommodations. I did politely tell her that beiNg so strict on packages will stop customers like myself from participating. She did not care and we hUng up. My thoughts are that this package is discrimination against people that don't eat meat. They need to have BOTH vegetarian and non vegetarian options for different customers. My boyfriend and I took the kids to Main Event twice recently. The first time we were turned away at the door because a large automobile corporation has rented the place out for their employees' Christmas party. Can't hate on Main Event for that--although I am a little envious of the employees at the automobile corporation. I only mention the first time so that you can understand the excitement and anticipation that was built up for my three young kids about going to the closest thing we have to an amusement park around here. We arrived hungry and decided to sit in the dining area immediately when we arrived. After waiting for about 15 minutes I started looking around and saw the walk up counter. I assumed I was supposed to go order there. I went up to the walk up counter and gave my order. I was told I had to sit back down and wait for a server. I asked, "how long will that be? We've already been here about 15 minutes". Please picture that at about this point, my son with ADHD and his two sisters are starving and starting to get real bored, real fast. We waited another 10 minutes before being able to get the attention of ANY employees. I finally flagged a young lady over, asked if we could get service. She said, "I'll get someone right over." When we saw her another 10 minutes later, we let her know we still haven't had any service. (We let another random employee walking by know we were looking for a server as well). So after about 30 minutes we finally had a nice young man come up to the table, apologize, take our order and let us know he was just getting on the clock, he'd take care of us and he was sorry there was any issue. Our food came out, it was delicious. (Seriously, we should have ordered more Thai wings they were so good.) Our drinks were refilled. Our bellies were full and then we sat. And sat. And sat. And waited. And waited. And waited for the check. At some point someone who looked like he might be a manager came over and asked how we were doing. I explained that we weren't really happy with the service, we had waited over 30 minutes, been told I could not order at the counter, asked 2 different people for a server, etc. His response was, (and I'm not kidding) "Yeah, Main Event has really weird rules about where you can order." That was it. No "Sorry we suck at service." or "Oh wow! Let me comp your drink." or "Sorry to hear this, here's a $5 play coupon for your trouble." or any sort of acknowledgement that they had completely failed in the service department. Will we come back? Of course. Will we plan to eat there again? Only because the wings were delicious and the pizza's cheese strung across the table. read more

Hey! What a cool place to stumble upon! Getting out of dinner, we saw this huge building next door, and looking it up I saw all kinds of fun stuff. So our group decided to go check it out (and I was particularly hoping they had a DDR machine in there). And it was awesome!! Games, bowling, bars, simple food, more games, mini-golf, and a climbing wall! Prices seemed pretty reasonable, though we mostly stuck to arcade stuff and some drinks. The place was BUSY on a Saturday night, it already being after 10pm, so it really looked like a fun spot to be. Shame that I live about an hour out, I'd LOVE to have something like this a lot closer to me. Oh, and the 4 stars instead of 5? OK did the mini golf, it was worth every penny, but that was because it was free .... I wouldn't pay to play here .... back at the rock gym, Little Man went through some of the expert walls, ($9.20 for an hour including tax) little disappointed as they didn't have the correct size shoe for him, but since there were a few birthday parties going on so we actually got a few extra minutes. Welp, basically it's a huge building with pretty much everything you can imagine. I was surprised at how large the rock climbing area happened to be. It had bouldering and looooots of top rope stuff as well. I did the mini golf with some friends and it ended up being pretty entertaining. It's lit with black lights so it has this cosmic glowy feel to it. Didn't get a chance to check out anything else so I'll have to put it on my list to check out though I'm not sure on pricing given that I went during a $5 per event special (each activity is an 'event' and they give you a wristband) No problem with parking or anything as the lot was large. read more

Absolutely great New years eve party our family had an amazing time, Not only was the staff at it's best but the whole event was being run like a well oiled machine by management, Our server was fantastic not only did Elizabeth make our experience feel like we were out on date night but provided excellent service to our children seated at the next table. The Main Event seems to be losing its luster. A lot of games were not working, the pool tables are stained the women's restrooms were gross, dirty and had puddles of water and smelled like urine and some stalls were out or order. Don't order the fish and chips either, subpar and the beers were lukewarm. Maybe they were short staffed but whatever the reason it wasn't a good experience. read more

Absolutely terrible mini golf experience and I believe whoever manages this place is to blame - two very nice high school guys running the mini golf section but we're completely under water. The design course itself is kind of cool but the experience is completely ruined by the disarray and mayhem in the mini golf area - no one is managing the actual mini golf area and since it's dark it's like the wild Wild West with kids running around all over everyone's holes, pushing things over, high schoolers taking pictures... absolutely terrible - advice to management - you have a cool course, but clean it up and give it the actual resources it needs for your customers to have a good time. read more

This review is for the rock climbing area. For the price, you can't beat Main Event. $7 and your own gear gets you a day pass. However, the gym is geared more towards little kids and you often have to battle for ropes and deal with the sweat they leave all over the rocks. The organization of the ratings in the gym is a little less than perfect. The routes are ordered by difficulty on the wall, and there are a decent number of beginner climbs (5.8-5.9), which is what I climb. The only problem is that they are all on 3 or 4 ropes and most of them with large-ish overhangs. The center area is pretty straight up, but only have 5.11 on them, despite pretty spare walls and room for other routes. It seems like if they scattered the ratings around the gym, the climbers within a specific ability level would get more variety in their experience. Finally, the routes are a little lame. There are rarely any good rests and the balance is often weird so I end up being really inefficient with my climbs. I know I'm not a great climber, but I would prefer routes that people with weak arms can actually do. read more

For the first time I celebrated New Year's Eve without getting drunk somewhere and in a place like this. Not bad, I enjoy it plus I'm getting too old to be "getting drunk." I enjoy drinking at home. Anyways, I purchased the NYE tickets which was a pretty good deal. $30 per adult and $25 per child with unlimited 2 hour games and some bowling. Besides being there on NYE, I will definitely be going here again. They have a cool bowling alley, a good amount of pool tables across from there as well as a full service bar nearby. Further in the building, there are games, Laser tag, a mini quick bite restaurant, miniature golf and another bar. It's a mini version of D&B with a bigger bowling alley. Great with family or a good date place. Play pool and have some drinks. We will be coming here again for sure. read more

I can't say much for the restaurant, as I don't think I'd really every eat a bowling alley. They have a nice I'll be it expensive full bar. Its a playground for adults really. This is one of the coolest bowling alleys/fun centers I have ever been to. It rivals or surpasses the best in Southern California. I do have a few gripes. A lot of the arcade games are really old/broken. The employees are very slow about helping you reset the bowling lanes and so on. Also, they really need to re-felt their pool tables. They're looking pretty used up. If they were nicer I'd be there much more often! read more

Main Event is a great place to go to shoot pool, play shuffleboard, and drink beer in a smoke-free environment. I usually go there on Monday nights to play Hold Em' and drink beer... the staff is always friendly. The bartenders know me by name, which may not be a good thing after all...
