Like the other Kung Fu Saloons, this one sticks to the same formula: drinks that aren't really anything special, old school arcade games, unwelcoming bartenders, and the random ringing of a gong every few minutes for reasons that remain unclear. The first room/entry is heavy traffic, where most people are dancing (or lack thereof) and also where the bar is. It gets pretty chaotic. If you manage to push through and head to the patio (left), you'll find some breathing room. While the venue leans into an "Asian" theme, it raises the question--are the owners actually Asian? This is a fun bar on west 6th that's been here for 14 years now. It's not huge, but it manages to have a bar surrounded by stools in the main room along with a couple small tables and about a dozen coin operated arcade machines as well as Skee Ball lanes that are set to free play, at least when I was there for an event. That means you don't get to score your Skee Ball games, but you get to roll as many as you want so I got to figure out how to get 100s with some practice. There's a second room with glass walls that slide back to open onto the covered patio with tables and games like giant Jenga as well as basketball arcade games. This room has its own smaller bar to serve the patio area, and is comparatively roomy. Sadly I didn't get to try the drinks since I was driving this time, but it seems like a fun place that's not too grungy and has a quirky feel to it. They had some good games but there weren't many, and when it got busy, there was no competing to play. The bar was good, typical party bar - well liquor, cheap beer. I went there this past Saturday to watch the Chiefs Vs Dolphins game. I guess this place has a Kansas City Chiefs fan bar. However once the game was over the scene changed and it was mostly people in their 20's and 30's filling both bars. The drinks seemed overpriced. There was nothing bad about it but it wasn't outstanding either. read more

My fiance and I have been here multiple times on Sunday's to watch football and play games. We wanted to take some engagement shots here at 6pm on a Saturday, before it gets busy. I asked if that was ok on IG, and they said yes. We got there and took a couple shots outside where there were NO customers. The manager came over and practically threw a bitch fit saying we're not allowed to take professional pictures there. I told him I messaged them on IG and got the ok. He said that only he could give permission for that and wanted to see proof of who I talked to. I didn't have my phone on me, and he said that's too bad and acted like I was lying. Even after we stopped taking pics, he came over again to get us to leave. We even bought drinks. I tried to be professional about it, but the manager was incredibly rude and just didn't want to hear it. I completely understand that you can't take pictures in there, but you don't need to be an asshole about it. read more

Wow this place has a ton of energy and activities to keep you busy! We visited on a Friday night and the music was soooooo good! It was mainly 90's music and it triggered my nostalgia combined with some classic video games I felt like a kid again. The only difference is this time I have alcohol! First stop of the night for my cousins and I! I'm giving this a rating of 4/5 stars just because I've been to Houston's Kung Fu Saloon, and let me tell you, Houston's music and vibe is so different. Back home in Houston, the music is always great and the place is super packed! Here in Austin, the music was hit or miss. They played a lot of EDM styled music mixed with other music. There was no distinct music type being played so some songs were great but then you get a super not great song, and then you'r just like "What?". I do like the layout! There's a back part of the bar that opens up and I think that's super cool, and I like the overall look of the place! I think that if they had a set music style that everyone could dance to, it would be so fun in here! Giving them a good rating because I do see potential and the service is really fast and nice. read more

Door man wouldn't let me in cause my shorts were too long. This was on St. Patty's Day back in 2013 & it still bothers me. I even wrote a comment on their main site but heard nothing back - awesome customer service all around..."NOOOTTT" like Borat said! I've also heard others say they were denied for this reason too. Like some others who complained, I'm also a current serving Vet (I was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base at the time). Thanks dung-full saloon...I salute y'all, but only with one finger! This new Kung Fu Saloon is way better than the old one. Less "old", better lighting, more room. Parking is still "fun" but you have to expect that with anything near the area. We mostly enjoyed the outdoor seating. Limited cocktail options but they were good. I personally liked the Berry Manilow. Food was great! Highly recommend everything we had: Kimcheese Tots (YUM!), Cheeseburger Eggrolls, Queso Blanco (add ancho ribeye), and Cap N Crunch Fried Pickles. Been to KFS a couple times in Aus and several in Dallas. Their layout is based off of having your old school arcade games readily handy while drinking with friends. If they could open these up to open play rather than requiring customers to pay to play I think that would be a really special thing setting this bar apart (You figure that people are paying $$ for drinks, open the arcade games open for little difference in overall return) Their choice of arcade games is spot on, they have all the main ones like Area 51, MK, Skeeball, Guitar Hero. Cool bar, great games, and plenty of booze to keep your night interesting! read more

Not a bad place. Some rad arcade games including skee ball. Giant connect four outside and three sets of giant jenga. Our group got a few mimosas and I got a Bloody Mary the second time around. Mimosa was more champagne than juice. Good to get drunk but I still want that flavor. The Bloody Mary was amazing though and the bar is do it yourself so load up on all the garnishes you love. My only complaint was the broken glass outside. I guess people tend to do the whole "Sunday fun day" thing and act like idiots. It's not a reflection on the establishment but it's common that glass gets broken my friends said. This girl drops her full glass of champagne and it was swept up fairly promptly. Some large shards were left though, the guy looked at them like "whatever." Guess he cleans glass up every twenty minutes so he figured he would be back anyway. Whoops. We asked if there was a speak easy (which there is straight back, it opens at 9:00 for ladies and 11:00 for both) under the bartenders breath he said I'm not gonna tell them because "they do not fit the vibe" I do not recommend coming here under any circumstances, there are plenty of other bars that should revive the business. read more
