VERY poor customer service. Well worth the drive to the post office or just about anywhere actually.

The Safe Ship sales rep had us do an inventory a month or two before the planned pickup. The quote was more than we expected as it was difficult for us to accurately determine our cubic foot needs. To help reduce cost we gave away a lot of pricey stuff to the VFW and other charitable organizations. We didn't have time to sell things. We were still living in our home and had items in closets and cabinets that required an increase of box count. Before the move, the rep reviewed the new inventory and it increased our cost to them as well to the movers that they hire. The cost should have gone down, not up. On move day, they showed up in a UHaul truck and couldn't get everything in it, requiring us to figure out how to get the rest of our stuff to our destination by ourselves. To be fair, after several phone conversations, they admitted the cubic foot error on their part (truck not big enough) and refunded a portion of the cost. Do yourself a favor and call a moving company who will come to your place and do their own cubic foot calculations and please stay away from brokers. They are just another layer that can cause avoidable problems. Brokers hire the actual movers so if there is a problem, you have to figure out if it was in the broker's wheelhouse or within the moving company. I wouldn't use them again, nor would I use any moving broker.

Then they do a confirmation of the inventory a few days before the pick up, after they have already collected a 1/3 deposit. We sold two couches, tables, chairs, etc to reduce our inventory but they raised the quote to $17,500. Almost double. It's a scam company and I would never recommend.

I was looking for organic compost for my vegetable garden and needed it delivered. There are…read moreseveral mulch companies within the Lake Monticello area and this one delivers a minimum of 1 cubic yard where others had a 3 cy minimum which was way too much. Business is family run and friendly service. They delivered the next day and said if I wasn't home - just to mark the area (put a bucket in the driveway) of where I wanted the compost dropped. I went to their location to look, touch and smell the compost before buying. The compost is rich, no weed seeds, no weird smells, perfectly fluffy for my vegetable garden. Even though I usually use vermiculite in my compost - I didn't have time to drive to Waynesboro to buy several big bags - I thought I would give it a try and plant seedlings direct in the compost - along with worm castings and Azomite. I layered cardboard, fall leaves, and peat moss - then topped it with the compost. My seedlings began sprouting within days, no problems with the compost getting hard when wet - I LOVE THIS COMPOST - I don't "need" another yard - but I could use a little more and considering the time and cost of buying bags of so-called garden soil at the big box store, it was not only cost efficient for me to buy the compost from Monticello Mulch & Landscaping, but it saved my back and multiple trips to the store - with one delivery I was able to fill 4 raised beds (4x8ft - 3" topped) with a little left over for some potting and seed starters. I highly recommend the organic compost at Monticello Mulch. They have several other mulch and landscaping rock, pepples and sand. Photos are on their website. There's a lesser charge if you pick it up yourself vs having it delivered. If you live in the Lake Monticello area, there's no extra delivery charge. I'm glad I went with them as you never know until you grow!

I had someone that was going to deliver a few yards on Christmas Eve evening, but he has to cancel that morning. I called some places, but no one was open (understandably!). I called Monticello Mulch and spoke with the kindest woman (Mrs. Patterson), who explained they were also closed to celebrate Christmas with their Grandchildren. She asked what I needed and I explained. She told me to come down and she was sending someone to the yard to meet us. They even mixed up a perfect mix for him, since they knew it was for his garden. Mrs. Patterson said she refused to let my 4 year olds only Christmas wish of dirt not come true. They went above and beyond for us and for my 4 year old, AND it's the best topsoil dirt I have ever seen!! Please go see these folks all of your landscaping needs!

Metcalf Tree Service

I am so impressed with everything about my experience with Metcalf Tree and Landscape. When the…read morewinter storm of Jan 2022, took a tree out, obstructing our driveway, they came over very quickly and made our driveway passible and then returned and took down the badly damaged tree. We have known of them and their good community service for years. We also chose them because they are licensed and insured - and not everyone is. Later, I asked for an estimate about other trees that had been damaged by the storm and by neighbors trees that had fallen on some of our trees. They gave me an estimate that was clear and explained exactly what they would do. It took a bit of time for us to save up to have this work done. When we let them know we were ready, they were here the next day to begin prep work. With their very busy schedule I know we lucked out. From start to finish, they were professional, friendly, efficient beyond measure, and thorough. They were able to get all nine trees down in one day. They even came blew any Ieft over saw dust out of the driveway. During their work here, they checked in by phone (to let me know they'd be back to tidy, to ask about relocating vehicles, etc.) All the men were very polite and courteous. They clearly knew exactly what they were doing. As if that wasn't enough, the wood we had taken down will become part of their charity, Start A Spark, which provides free wood to families in need who heat with wood burning stoves. We will definitely use them again for any and all tree needs. I can't recommend them highly enough!

We were not even able to get past first base with this company. I contacted them in late October…read morefor an estimate. On Oct 31, I informed them to schedule us for the tree removal. While they were reasonable in the timeframe for the estimate (within a week), we waited for 2 weeks before reconnecting with them them about getting scheduled since we had heard nothing. At that time, they told us that they were scheduling us for Nov 25th. That time has come and gone - I just reached out to them today (Dec 2nd) - a week later - and they informed me that tomorrow (Dec 3rd) was the makeup day in case the 25th didn't work out. Problem is, WE weren't kept in the loop on any of their scheduling/changes. They responded when I texted, but the response consisted of more apologies, just like the first time when they neglected to keep us informed. We were looking for a partnership to help us manage our tree population. Now we have to go through the research process all over again to find someone reliable, which apparently, Metcalf is not.
