I am updating my review as Mailbox Express has new management (for several years now) after Terry retired. While I wish Terry and his family all the very best and a very happy and relaxed retirement, I miss him very much at Mailbox Express! It is still very convenient and much appreciated to have a local place to mail packages without having to drive down to the Post Office or into C'Ville to one of the packing/mailing stores there, they offer the same services that Terry did, packages get to where they need to be in a timely fashion, and the staff always greets us with a friendly smile, however, there is one major difference in service and it is a BIG one, in my opinion, and very problematic for me - they do NOT answer the phone! By that I mean that every single time that I have tried to reach them by telephone, I get a recorded message that says to send them an email, EVERY SINGLE TIME! Sometimes I have a quick question, sometimes a more in-depth question, occasionally I need to follow up on something that was said or done in the store, there are many reasons why I might be trying to call the store and leaving an email is not an easy or convenient option for people with severe arthritis, it is the most painful option, in fact. Sometimes it is simply easier to clearly explain the question/problem (and ascertain that they understood the question/problem correctly) while speaking to the store personnel rather than in an email. Another reason that I prefer to call the store and speak with someone before going there is to ask them to watch for me to arrive as I am handicapped and unable to open the door to get into the store and while I am a patient person and willingly to wait in good weather, my health precludes me waiting when it is hot and humid or cold. While another customer or passerby will always open the door for me, I have been there at times when there is no other customer or passerby and have had to stand and wait for as much as 20-25 minutes to get a store employee's attention to let me in which is an issue as standing is painful and tiring for me so a brief phone call to ask them to watch out for my arrival would have solved this issue nicely. I am amazed that the owners of this store are not concerned about the attributes of employees they hire. I walked in there July 8th and no one was at the counter. I said hello the woman came out and yelled at me for being impatient. She would not speak to me or offer me any service. I asked her if she was in a bad mood and she said "what do you want?" Taken aback by her rudeness, I asked her name. She said "I don't have to give you my name." Consequently, I walked out and did not do any business there. I had driven 20 miles to get to this location. She was one of the rudest people I've ever dealt with at a business in my 70 years. read more

This packaging store is amazing! Very personable staff who provide quality services. We have our mail, Amazon, UPS and any other similar delivery sent here and they do a wonderful job of safely storing our items, so no porch pirate worries for us. Since we have a "postal mail box" at this location, we can request to have all accumulated items shipped to us if we are traveling out of town. Highly recommend! read more

If I could give less stars I would! It wasn't until I read some other online reviews that I realized that they overcharge for postage stamps. I usually print my own postage from home but needed stamps for Thanksgiving and Christmas cards. Bought 100 stamps and paid $70!! Should have cost me $63. I questioned myself but should have questioned them! Then today I went in with a small package that I had printed postage at home for. All I needed was a small piece of tape over the top because I couldn't find my packing tape. TWELVE INCHES AT THE MOST!!! The young girl behind the counter said, "that will be $1 even", which I replied, "for a piece of tape?!?" When she said yes I told her no thank you and turned around to walk out of the store. Other than them trying to charge me $1 for a 12" piece of tape, two other things ticked me off. One was that the woman in front of me was mailing a padded envelope. It was sealed but for whatever reason the same young girl put a rather large piece of tape over it. I wanted to ask if she had been charged $1 for that tape also! Then the real kicker was that once I said no thanks and proceeded to walk out of the store she made a snide remark under her breath to the owner that was at the second register. I didn't catch what was said and was in no mood for a confrontation so I kept walking out of the store. It was well worth the drive in to town to go to the UPS Store, where they had NO issues throwing a little tape on my package. Excellent customer service! It is a small shop and sometimes there can be a bit a bit of a wait. But I would rather do my shipping here because it supports a local and veteran owned and operated business. I have mailed a number of packages from here and have never had a problem, even if I am just dropping off a package with a self-addressed stamped label for pick up by the USPS, UPS or FedEx. read more

This review relates to rental of a mailbox. When I initially asked for a rental rate the woman who answered my queries seemed new and inexperienced and relayed most of my questions to a senior employee who generally monitored the interaction. When paperwork was completed and time came for the rental there was a processing fee and key deposit not previously mentioned. At the time I wrote it off to inexperience. Immediately after securing the box I provided the address to a company who was holding vehicle titles to be sent to me. After over a week of waiting I put a trace on the shipment and found Mailbox Express had received the package the day following my rental. When I went to the facility they found the envelope, too large to fit in the box. I was unable to get any explanation why no note had been put in the box. The final comment was "well you have it now", reflective of the level of concern. Prior to surrendering the box I received a renewal notice with an increased rate. The regular Post Office advised me MEx would not forward mail at the end of my rental and no effort was made to get new information when I surrendered the key. read more

After running around all day looking for shipping boxes of unusual sizes, Terry was my savior! He had everything I needed, made what he didn't, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, and was pleasant and funny while doing it! The most frustrating experience I can ever remember. My employee went to Mailbox Express to ship some packages in January. She had our UPS account number and was told by the employee of that it was not a UPS account number but a FEDEX number. The employee proceeded to ship the package FEDEX and I was billed by FEDEX a month and a half later (nearly $300). Fast forward to July. Same employee is going to Mailbox Express to ship multiple packages. We joked about making sure that the package went UPS. Employee goes into the shop and is told that her UPS number is invalid. No, she insists, it's not. Just ship the packages. Nope. Mailboxes Express employee refuses. She says she won't ship it without my employee leaves a credit card number as well. She also implies that my employee is doing something scam-y. My employee leaves without shipping packages. I call the shop and explain the situation to the and ask the Mailbox Express employee to call UPS and verify the account number so we can get our packages shipped. She tells me that she never told my employee that the number wasn't a UPS number. I explain to her that the exact same thing happened to us in January, with the resulting $300 FEDEX bill. She calls my employee a liar and insists that none of this happened. I snottily said to her that it seems like a very interesting way to run "a Christian business", which I shouldn't have said. (They make a very big deal out of the fact that it's a Christian business, which I've always found really odd.) When I return home, I received a phone call from the owner (who we've actually always liked). He was a bit angry and loud at first but said her just wanted to know what happened. I explained the entire story. His employee countered every point by saying that none of it ever happened. We used to frequent this store a lot. It's the nearest UPS/FEDEX drop-off location. I actually like the owners and feel bad about this whole situation but I will never, ever darken their doorstep again. First of all, because my packages are now not going to make it to their destination in time. Secondly, because the employee called us liars. I suspect that the employee made a mistake and didn't want to admit it, but that's just supposition. We had no reason to lie; we just wanted our packages shipped. We followed the protocol that UPS requires. We were prepared to pay for the service (and not an insignificant amount, either.) This whole situation is incredibly frustrating and sad-making. read more

I always get really good customer service in here! They give great suggestions on how to go about sending different items which is extremely helpful! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! The owner must have friends and family members writing some of this place reviews. I had a last minute Christmas gift to send and my jaw almost dropped after I was told the price to ship! The owner( Terry) I felt was very rude to both me and his staff so I drove 15 minutes to the UPS building on Pantops in Charlottesville. I not only received outstanding service but was almost HALF THE COST that I was quoted by Terry. Thanks for making me feel like and idiot when I asked where my 2 packages had gone. Terry the manager decided it would be a great idea to blame me for not getting a receipt instead of offering solutions to help me find the lost items. That is seriously terrible customer service. Their shipping prices are inflated. $6 for a package that should have shipped for $3 by USPS guidelines? Why are you screwing people over? And then to answer a personal call while there is a line of customers and stating, "No you're not interrupting me. I'm just goofing off at work". Highly unprofessional. I was a store manager of 7 years and couldn't live with myself if I had treated anyone the way I was treated today. I'm all for local business, but I won't be back to this one.
