I've only been here once to have some documents notarized. I thought the customer service was outstanding by the notary. The other person working was also great with other customers-I was right there and overheard their interactions. The notary (I'm sorry I totally forgot her name!!!) was very patient with me while I had to call my husband twice to ask him what exactly needed to be added on the paperwork by her etc. An additional page was needed that wasn't standard and she was very helpful and accommodating. The store itself felt very outdated and the inside was a bit dreary as it's a very thin store and a bit dark. I have lived in the area most of my life and this was my first time here. They do custom printing and banners-who knew!? I can't really attest to all their services but I would highly recommend going to see their notary. read more

This review is for the notary. she accepted and notarize a form that has the notary attestation on 2 separate pages. Which was not accepted by the clerk at the recorders office. I was advised that any notary should have known this is a California requirement. I remember the girl looking at the form and I asked what's wrong... she shrugged and said. "It's your form, are you wanting to sign this?" So we had 2 signatures . -30$ and it wasn't accepted. I mean. She could have just told me. I would have reprinted the form and still payed her. I'm a senior citizen who recently stopped driving; also, am having difficulty walking without assistance. I needed to return a defective vacuum cleaner through UPS. Although a little unsure of how to get it done, I got Uber to deliver it to UC Exchange, and called Amy explaining what I needed. She received the box, sealed it up properly, printed the return label and had it ready for pick-up by UPS lickety split! So quick, so professional, and so upbeat and kind! This is such a great little convenient postal place, I am very happy they are located right in the middle of UC. They do faxing, mailing, packaging, shipping and also have a copy machine as well. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and will get you in and out as quick as possible. Much better than going to the Post Office to wait in a 15-20 minute line sometimes. They also rent out mailboxes for $15 a month (3 month minimum). read more

A local small business lost me as a customer today. I try to support small business owners, but when treated with extremely poor customer service that's when I stop. I went in this morning to ship a package, already labeled, packed and ready to go. All I needed to do was to pay for shipping. The woman ahead of me was still packing her package up. So,I asked if the clerk could please charge me while she finish, so I could get to work. His response "you can wait!" I'm sorry, that is no way to speak to a customer. I stood there for a moment contemplating what to do, and I said I will take my business elsewhere. They need to learn a thing or two on how on customer service. That was the last time I will step foot in there! The previous owner was a world of difference, very friendly and customer oriented. read more

I went to mail a package here and they were going to charge me $20.00. I felt this was extremely high for the package size so I questioned him about the rate. He said that shipping rates have gone up. I chose to go to the post office instead. My shipping rate at the USP was only $12.09!!! He is charging almost DOUBLE their rates. I understand small shipping businesses need to make money above the going rate, however, that is a rip off!! I will NEVER send anything through them! I recommend driving a few blocks down the street to the post officein the Sprouts shopping center to ship packages instead!!! You will save a LOT of $$$! ****PLEASE NOTE....... I was very disappointed in how much they charged to over night a small item. I checked fed ex online and the small pack price averaged about 35 dollars. The lady said I had to place the item in a larger box because it wasn't a paper item. They charged me close to 100 dollars. If I hadn't been in a hurry due to the urgency of sending the item out, I would have went to a FedEx office location. Basically' I feel robbed. I'm not sure if she did not have the right packaging to offer, but 100 dollars for a small item weighing almost nothing is just wrong. I knew they were pricey before, but this incident is the last straw. I will not be returning to this business. read more

This is a wonderful local mail shop in the UTC area. The owners are warm and efficient. I came in to print, notarize, organize my items and mail multiple items a month ago. I had ordered some items through Amazon a few weeks ago for an international trip. The items never arrived but were delivered to someone else in my neighborhood. The good neighbor left my package at the Mail Exchange and the owner, Marguerite, sent me a hand written letter that she had my items, because I was in the database from my previous needs. I was thrilled to find her letter when I arrived back home from my trip. I just picked up my package and am very thankful for the Mail Exchange and their service to the community. Great location and great service!!! Notary service on site. UPS, FED EX, USPS. Copy, fax, Live Scan, passport photos and mailbox rental services are all available at this location. I have been a client of Mail Exchange on Governor Drive for over five years. This is an owner-operated store, where the owner is always on hand to take care of things and is highly knowledgeable about all shipping services and providers. My experience with the customer service, having visited this location 2 to 3 times a week since 2007, is that it is excellent. I rely on this location for shipping and receiving because it guarantees the security of my company's mail and there is always someone on hand to sign for deliveries. This south UTC location is very convenient because it is centrally located and very easy to get to off the I-5, 805, and SR-52 with minimal traffic on Governor Drive and Genesee. It is located at the entrance of a small community retail center next door to Rite Aid, and across from Von's. The center has a Partners Urgent Care clinic and several local businesses: a dry cleaner, hair salon, insurance company, restaurants. There is always parking and you can run other errands when dropping off shipments and picking up mail. I highly recommend this business, proprietor, and location. read more

came here to get a canadian passport photo. they have very specific requirements. the owner, marquerite, was amazing. she had all of the specs/rules printed out and followed them to a tee. there was a strange reflection off m forehead and she took about three dozen photos, trying different flashes/lights and even letting me use her blotting papers and make up brush to apply powder. she was very patient and willing to work with all my requests and was finally able to get a good picture. she only charged me $13, even though she gave me two sets of photos and spent over an hour with me. i cannot say enough good things about her. update! my passport arrived! the picture was accepted! read more

I have been here a few times. If you have something very simple, they are ok. They can be dismissive and rude at times. They are notaries but they frequently refuse to notarize documents they do not understand. My recommendation is not to waste your time going here and look for a place that is more professional. read more

Tried this place again, big mistake. My local post office said it would be $41 to ship a package; I came here hoping UPS or FedEx would be cheaper. The cheapest Mail Exchange gave me was $70! I let them know the post office had a cheaper rate since they also ship for USPS. She said the cheapest she could ship for USPS was $101. So back to my local post office I went. Today went into get our package for square readers for a graduation event for a school that my fiancé runs. The owner thought it was a joke and those are her exact words! She sent them back to the company ,now we had to run to Best Buy and purchase 15 square readers. The event is tomorrow, SHE COULD AT LEAST CALLED US TO SEE, it had his name and the organization on it. Margarite put us in a horrible unforgivable bind. Therefore I would never trust this company with my mail or packages . If you run a company and need a trustworthy company to receive your mail it's not this one. I will also be contacting the BBB on this one. We will be finding another PO box to help us that know what they are doing . read more

Very convenient and pretty good service. The reason for the 3 stars instead of 5 is the prices. Everything costs a bit too much, though the management claims to be lower cost than most similar convenience mail service stores. A book of 20 x 50 cent stamps costs 12.50 here. They cost $10 at the USPS a few blocks away. Its only $11 over on Balboa Ave. A box of 45 envelopes with peel off clasps is $4.69, but next door at Rite Aid you can get 50 of the same for $4.09. There are no senior nor quantity discounts. So as long as you are comfortable with paying for the 1-stop convenience you will be well served here. If not, get some exercise and walk or drive to lower prices. read more

I ship several medium to large packages of gifts each year to Corbett, Oregon - so I am fairly familiar with what the FedEx prices will be and anticipated somewhere around $60 with mailing and purchasing a box. Usually I ship from College Postal Plus on El Cajon Blvd. near SDSU -- but because I needed my package of gifts to leave with the early Friday 6/3/11 shipment, I used my lunch break from work in UTC and went to the closest mailing place - Mail Exchange. I asked the female clerk if I could wrap the presents in her shop and initially she was friendly and cleared off a table for me to wrap on. This was very hospitable of her, but this is the only good thing I can say about my experience. Once I wrapped the presents and was ready to ship I was absolutely horrified. My gifts consisted of a build-it-yourself skateboard set, a helmet, a basketball, a pair of shoes, one boys outfit, a medium sized water gun, and two small lego sets. Understandably, the skateboard is a long item, but after trying a box a bit too short, she produced a box large enough for ME to fit in - FAR bigger than what I needed. THEN the clerk tells me it will be $113 to ship this less-than-20-pound package!!! When I expressed my surprise at the amount, and asked why so much if the package wasnt that heavy -- the clerk became quite snippy with me and said it goes by BOTH weight and box size -- but the box was ridiculously, unnecessarily big! I immediately thanked her for letting me wrap the gifts there, took my items, and left -- no WAY I was going to pay that much to ship those presents!!! After work that afternoon, I drove to my trusted College Postal Plus - and told them of the horror I experienced at Mail Exchange. Although they too didnt have a box that fit my needs exactly, employee Vanessa cut down a larger box so that it fit my items perfectly - and it took her less than five minutes to do. The box and peanuts cost me $14. The shipping cost me $46.72. I paid a total of $61.95 after tax - almost HALF what Mail Exchange tried to extort out of me!!!!! Seriously - if you run a mailing place, why wouldnt you know how to cut a box down - to save your customers money and make them want to come back?! And for the clerk to give me attitude when I had the nerve to question the price was just unacceptable - especially because I knew it didnt have to cost that much! I understand that this is a more affluent area of San Diego, but even wealthier people don't want to pay DOUBLE the normal price for anything! And having your shop in a nicer area is still no reason to rob people of their money! I will never, ever go to the Mail Exchange ever again, not even for a stamp (which would probably cost .88!)!!! read more
