Steak Au Poivre and a bless your heart cocktail. Absolutely delicious. Love this place.

If you haven't tried this place you're missing out on some amazing food. The weekend menu changes so it's great to see what James is making each weekend.

Fried green tomatoes

Another weekend, another restaurant! To start, I would like to acknowledge just how amazing the service was. We enjoyed the dining service here immensely. We started off the meal with fried green tomatoes and boy did we love it! Definitely worth a try if you've never had fried green tomatoes or have grown up with fried green tomatoes, they will not disappoint. On a side note, they reminded me of crab cakes and I think that had to do with the sauce.. As for the meal, we tried 3 different plates; JW's Chicken Hash, pork belly hash, and eggs Pontchartrain. If you love hash browns, you'll definitely enjoy the chicken hash. My food connoisseur and I felt that the salt was a little overpowering in this dish, but I enjoyed the flavor within the dish. I wish it had more chicken though. If you're a fan of pork belly, you will LOVE the pork belly hash. You could taste the flavor of all the different veggies and it blended together perfectly. Although, the greens did add a hint of bitterness to the dish. And lastly, the eggs Pontchartrain! It came with 3 pieces of fried oyster (those were tasty). Other than that, we probably wouldn't get this dish the next time we visit. There wasn't anything special about the flavor - I'm a bigger fan of the eggs benedict at Doodah's.

Waitress was amazing . Food was delicious would go back for sure. Do wish the menu had more variety.

Shrimp and Grits

The staff at Napoli let us know about Magnolia Cafe and we thought we'd give it a try for a family brunch. The presentation of everything was very nice...and the service was good. We ordered the cornbread and fried green tomatoes to share...the cornbread was delish...sweet and buttery. The tomatoes were more breading than tomato, but the flavor was very good. I'd try them again, but I'd recommend that they cut those tomatoes thicker moving forward. My daughter had the Bananas Foster French Toast and loved it. She let me try it and it was totally decadent. They were considerate of her nut allergy and kept the pecans off. My husband and I both had the Shrimp and Grits...the shrimp were big and plentiful, nicely cooked, but you do need to like cheesy grits. I also loved that there was andouille sausage in the grits, which gave the flavor a nice pop. Our friend ordered the Eggs Pontchatrain and really enjoyed it. The portion sizes were generous and prices were reasonable. We will definitely be back...there are tons of things on the menu to try if you enjoy New Orleans style brunch.

Red wine short ribs.

Had the southern BLT and gumbo and they were scrumptious! Service is great too. I've never had bad food there.

Had a wonderful time at my first Wichita speakeasy!…read more I'm in town visiting family, and they decided to introduce me to Dockum. And what an introduction it was. First off, this is a beautifully crafted location. Tucked away inside a rather unassuming downtown hotel, you would never imagine what's waiting for you downstairs. After crossing the lobby, we were directed to the lower level, where we had to give a secret knock to gain entry. And just like that, we were transported back in time. The atmosphere is magnificent. The intimate downstairs setting, the decor, and the overall mood give the place a personality all its own. It feels like stepping into another era, with all the charm and mystery you would expect from a speakeasy. But what makes Dockum particularly interesting is the history behind its name. In 1958, a courageous group of African American students staged a peaceful sit-in at the Dockum Drug Store lunch counter, located upstairs from where the speakeasy now sits. For nearly four weeks, these young people challenged segregation, ultimately helping bring an end to discriminatory service practices at the Dockum chain in Kansas. Think about that for a moment. Here I was, enjoying a beautifully designed speakeasy, only to discover that the building above me had been part of something far more significant than a night out. That history adds another dimension to the experience, and I appreciate that the establishment makes an effort to acknowledge it. Now, back to the drinks! Wonderfully crafted, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. I ordered The Last Word, and what made it even more memorable was the little show they put on while preparing it right at our table. I love when a cocktail becomes part of the experience rather than simply something placed in front of you by their beautiful waitstaff. The food? Good, but not great. It certainly wasn't the highlight of the evening, but it didn't take away from what made the visit special. And that's really the thing about Dockum. You're not just going downstairs to grab a drink. You're stepping into an atmosphere filled with character, enjoying a little theater, and visiting a place connected to an important chapter of Wichita's history. If you're in downtown Wichita and looking for beautifully crafted cocktails, a little mystery, and a location with a story worth knowing, Dockum is absolutely worth visiting. As for me, I already know I'll be back. After all, now that I know the secret knock, it would be a shame not to use it again.

From their facebook and the article I got the vibe it was a Cocktail Lounge/Bar with live music etc. We came on a Friday night, there was a good amount of people in the bar. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits enjoying their drinks. We sat at the bar and the bartender Julian helped us. He was very friendly and approachable. I order the Suga Suga How You Get So Fly (it is an espresso martini with a cinnamon rim and a brown sugar syrup) my husband got the Mr. M Berry. Unfortunately I did not like my drink, I drank my husband's drink. His drink was good. Mine tasted very syrupy and artificial in flavor. We decided to stay for one more drink to leave on a good note. I ordered a Tequila Old Fashion (not on the menu) and my husband got Moxie's 4x4. These were a lot better than our first drink. For my old fashion it was very thick and syrupy, but I let the ice melt for a while and it was a better texture. I plan on coming back with some girlfriends and maybe trying some new drinks. As well I think I would like when they have live music more. They were playing really loud club music. Rap and R&B. Don't get me wrong I like that music. But not at a Cocktail Lounge Bar. I was hoping for something a little more relaxing and sensual. Dimmer lights and music to match that vibe. I know it's new so maybe they are still trying to adjust the overall aesthetic. Overall it was a 4/5 maybe a 3.5/5. I will give a more updated review my second time around with the live music and other drinks. Bartender and service: 5/5 Prices are reasonable. Bar is clean and well kept. Menu: 1/5. They are hard to read and flip pages.

Training-why is your server not trained well on how to interact when there is a speaker/leader who is talking when she decides to interrupt? Why is the food so focused on being smashed into a shape that fits inside the rim of the plate? It almost seemed as if they stacked all our plates full of food on top of each other (I don't think they did that?), without covers, because my meal came compacted, shaped and stuffed into the plate...very unappetizing. The food wasn't terrible, but it was cold and put on the plate based upon a list and and photos...not by anyone who ever considered that an actual SOUL was going to have to PUT IT IN THEIR MOUTH.... So 5 stars for room 3 stars for service (she was really nice) 2 stars for food Averages out to 3! If you aren't going for a meeting or party-it might be different!
