I really enjoyed my time at the Dockum. Our drinks came out quickly and our food was excellent. In additions, our server Haleigh provided some great drink recommendations. I also really enjoyed the ambiance as the low lighting was quite relaxing. Overall I would highly recommend visiting the Dockum! read more

It was fun going down the stairs to the speakeasy in the basement. The entertainer/guitarist/singer was good but I felt sorry for him because people were just talking and not really paying attention to him. Nice but noisy atmosphere. Food was just ok though. read more

If you're big into mixed drinks this is your place. This is mine and my husband's favorite date spot. We love getting a good cocktail and listening to live music. Dockum has both great cocktails, and great entertainment. I really like the atmosphere here every single time. It's dim, it's romantic, it's lively. Our waitress every time has been the same girl and she's fabulous and attentive. Her name is Elvia, shoutout to her! We have our favorite drinks here, but always try something new each time. Never had a bad drink here. Our favorites are: The Last Word, Dizzy Dame, Cinder and Smoke. You can't go wrong with anything you order honestly. We could sit here for a few hours. It's also a speakeasy. It's under ground, you have to knock to get in. Overall it's just a cool vibe for something downtown in Wichita. It is my favorite spot to go. If you are in town visiting or a local, I recommend this place 1000%. read more

We went to Dockum Speakeasy for the first time with pretty high expectations. The hostess was wonderful and seated us right away at a nice table, which started the evening off well. When our waitress came by, we told her it was our first visit and that we needed a little time with the menu. We ordered drinks, but they came out at odd times--two arrived quickly, while the other two took noticeably longer. My husband ordered a Bijou, which is a unique cocktail, and it seemed to take a while for the bar to figure out how to make it. Still, the drinks were good once they arrived. For food, we tried the burnt ends and the JoJos. The JoJos were excellent--crispy and flavorful--but the burnt ends were disappointing, served a bit cold and lacking in flavor. Things really unraveled with our second round of drinks. Service slowed to a crawl, and we eventually learned that our waitress had been sent home by the manager even though the bar was packed on a Friday night. A young server, only two weeks into the job, was left to take over, and unfortunately, he had no idea what he was doing. Another waitress stopped by to help but admitted she usually works upstairs in the restaurant and didn't know the cocktail menu either. The shift in service quality from the first round of drinks to the second was very jarring. There was live music, but the sound system wasn't great, so it didn't add much to the atmosphere. We did order desserts from the upstairs restaurant, which were a nice finish, but by the end of the night it was clear the staff was overwhelmed. As we left, we even saw the manager outside looking exhausted, which made us feel bad for the whole team. Overall, while the drinks were solid and the JoJos worth trying, the experience was inconsistent and stressful. Maybe we just got caught up in an off night of drama, but I wouldn't recommend Dockum for more than one drink. read more

The service was amazing. This was such a cool place to go to for my birthday and we got free shots!

Good food, good service, and low crowds. My wife and I love this spot and the charm of it being a secret speakeasy is the best. It is pricey but well worth it. read more

The idea of this bar is pretty nice. It definitely has a speakeasy vibe. I suggest asking one of the staff members where it is located when you arrive. It is inside the ambassador hotel down the stairs from the first floor. It is the stairs are in the same hallway as the restaurant. Once you get down the stairs, you'll see a metal door with a sign. You open the door to take you into this ante room with a big wooden door. Knock three times and they open the door for you. They do have reservations, but we went on Tuesday and it was not busy. They have a cocktail menu, but they can make you anything because they have a full service bar. They also sell some food. I opted for an old-fashioned (not on the menu). My friend got the gin fizz. Prices were very reasonable. We were going to eat afterwards, so we decided just to snack. We ended up getting the truffle fries. The Fries were good and the portion size was adequate. It did come with an aïoli, but we weren't too fond of it. We ended up getting ketchup instead. The waiter was able to give us good suggestions and was prompt. 3.5 stars. As a New Yorker, I'm a sucker for any speakeasy, so when in Wichita I had to try Dockum. It's a cool entry experience in the basement of Wichita's fanciest hotel: find the wooden door and knock for entry. It's fairly large inside, so the bar's energy is diffuse and subdued. I was seated at the bar, where a cranky and entitled corporate type bristled when asked by the hostess to move over six inches to make room (so I wouldn't be sitting on top of where the staff was preparing cocktail garnishes). Service was friendly and the bartender was solid. However, two younger staffers were a bit immature (chatty, loud, and unprofessional), making the overall impression less than what I seek from a luxe cocktail bar experience. My drink - a faintly smoky Old Fashioned called the Leadslinger - was fine, but not amazing, and in general the entire experience felt just a bit soulless. It was around 8p on a Wednesday, so maybe Wichita is just lively on Fridays and Saturdays, or it just wasn't my night. The best thing about Dockum is that its name pays homage to an important civil rights event that happened upstairs on this site many decades ago. Courageous Black students conducted a sit-in - perhaps the first nationally, but definitely early in the civil rights movement - at the lunch counter upstairs. It inspired the broader movement for racial justice that continues on today. This legacy, now connected by name to a basement bar of a swanky hotel, is the most soulful part of the entire experience and definitely one to toast to. read more

Dockum Speakeasy - A Hidden Gem in Wichita, KS If you're looking for a true speakeasy experience in Wichita, Dockum is the place to be. Located in the basement of Ambassador Hotel Autograph Collection, this bar delivers a classic, intimate vibe with dim lighting and vintage decor that transports you to the Prohibition era. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. The drinks are decent--crafted with care, though not necessarily the best I've had. Still, the overall experience makes up for it. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Dockum is worth a visit. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town! read more

Always love visiting the Dockum when we are in Wichita! Great service and drinks. They also have great live music on the weekends. Only downside to the live music, it a little loud when your trying to have a conversation with someone at your table. read more

The service was amazing! The bartender mixed some delicious drinks!! The atmosphere was very chill and the live music was not too loud

Definitely recommend! The drinks are a lot of fun and exceeded my expectations. The environment is a lot of fun. I recommend making reservations as it does get busy and run out of space for the rest of the night if you don't have one! If you're going with a friend, having a seat at the bar is a lot of fun. You can watch the bartenders make each drink, and they are all very fun. The special drink comes in the bottle (seen in the photos), that comes smoked. If you can watch them make it, it's worth seeing! I'd get it at least once, but probably not twice in one night. My friend and I were originally sat in the back room that was very quiet and separate from the rest of the room which was disappointing. After asking, we got moved to the bar-- which was awesome. We appreciate the staff helping us find a spot and moving into the main room. Despite being short staffed, they all worked hard and made sure everyone's experience was eventful- so thank you! read more

A wedding in Wichita brought us to this little gem. Dockum is a quaint speakeasy in the Ambassador hotel basement. The concierge informed us of is existence upon check-in so we booked a reservation immediately (we love speakeasys). Knocking on the designated door gains you access after the host or hostess confirms you're "cool to come in" through a barred peep hole. Once inside, it's definitely a bar. But the ambiance was elevated a notch above the usual bar. Dim lighting, cool artwork, industrial vibes greet you once you sit down. There's bar, high top, low top, and couch seating. There was a live guitarist pumping out great laid back classic rock hits. Food: it was the end of the night for us. So small bites was the plan. Parmesan fries and fried hot green beans really hit the spot. Drinks: the server informed us Dockum is known for their smokey old fashions. The Leadslinger was their riff. As far as old fashions go. Solid. Tasty. Nothing crazy. The stand out for me was the Last word. Complex, herbal, refreshing, and tasty. If you like craft cocktails that are different than the usual, give it a try. Our server was attentive and checked on us a bunch. Overall, an unexpected but very pleasant end of night stop for our post wedding night cap. The best part? Our room was 10 floors up. Nothing like going straight from the speakeasy to the room in under 5 minutes. Cheers! read more

So, there I was, descending into the depths of the Ambassador Hotel in Wichita, on a quest for Dockum, a speakeasy-style cocktail bar. It's like stepping into a Prohibition-era hideout, but with fewer flappers and more people like me, wondering if they're cool enough to be there. The place is dark, like a bat's boudoir, but cozy, with an air of mystery. It's the kind of spot where you half expect to whisper a password to a man with a monocle. The decor is nice, though one or two pieces of wall art made me wonder if they were chosen in the dark. But let's not nitpick about aesthetics when there are cocktails to be had. Speaking of which, the cocktails here don't just arrive; they perform. I had three, each a mini theatrical production. I mean, setting a drink on fire right at your table? It's like dinner and a show, but the dinner is liquid, and the show is pyrotechnics. The drinks were strong enough to make me consider a career in espionage, yet not so strong that I'd forget my own alias. The servers are like cocktail wizards - knowledgeable, attentive, and thankfully, not wearing pointy hats. They're the kind of people who can discuss the merits of obscure bitters and not make you feel like a culinary troglodyte. What's truly remarkable about Dockum is that it offers a slice of upscale life in a town where your Friday night could easily become as predictable as a sitcom rerun. It's a welcome diversion for those of us looking to escape our usual haunts without having to resort to something drastic like skydiving or, heaven forbid, a running club. Now, getting into Dockum is an adventure in itself. You must first tackle their website to make a reservation. Then, once at the hotel, you navigate to the correct elevator - because apparently, not all elevators are created equal. And finally, the pièce de résistance, you knock thrice on a door, like you're entering a wizard's lair or trying not to wake a sleeping dragon. If lost, the hotel staff are your friendly dungeon guides. Would I recommend Dockum? In a heartbeat. It's not just a bar, it's an evening adventure. For anyone in Wichita looking for a detour from the mundane or a cocktail that might spontaneously combust, Dockum is the place! read more

I absolutely loved the vibes here -- dim lighting, historic charm, comfortable seating, and wonderful drinks (albeit pricey). I loved the "dizzy dame" cocktail. The setting is intimate enough for a romantic date night, but still informal enough for a group of friends to gather and hang out for hours. They had live jazz music on the Friday night we went, which made it all the more fun. At first we weren't sure how to get into the speakeasy, but you have to go through the Ambassador Hotel lobby, through some hallways and down stairs, before you come to a door where a doorperson will admit you. All in all, it's a unique experience to have in Wichita and I look forward to returning! read more

This place was amazing, you have to try it at least once. We went on a Thursday maybe around 8pm and it was pretty empty... I prefer that, not a fan of crowds. Live music, a man with a guitar and a good voice. Drinks are drinks, except my friend got the smoked one and we both did not like it at all. I'm glad we tried it though! A bit expensive FYI but, again, worth trying at least once. read more

A little busier than expected, so it was quite difficult to have a conversation. Ambience was quite moody. Bathrooms were slightly darker than the seating area, which made it a bit difficult to check my makeup, etc. we did not have anything to eat since we went to a different location for dinner. The drinks were well prepared in my opinion. They had live performance which was a nice touch to the mood they were setting. All in all a nice experience and would recommend, just on a slower day. Like midweek or earlier in the day read more

Great appetizers. Drinks were fantastic!!! Good music and the ambience was laid back! Really cool place!

What an awesome find! The drinks are quite pricey but this is one of those "you have to at least go once" kind of places. This modern day speakeasy is located at the basement level of the ambassador hotel. The menu includes a wide variety of their signature drinks. The Old Smoking Cody is one of the most popular which is supposed to include a souvenir bottle but unfortunately they did not have it. The waitress was nice enough to lower the price of the drink from $18 to $12. It's a whiskey based drink with brown sugar syrup. The next drink I tried was the El Kabong which was my absolute favorite! It tasted like a pina colada with a splash of Cajun seasoning. It's just one of those things that you have to try and put it in your own words. The ambiance was very relaxed and dim which makes for a great nightlife spot. It's very intimate for couples yet inviting for large groups. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're visiting Wichita, Kansas. Even if you're not a guest at the ambassador hotel, it's definitely worth checking out! read more

Where to start? The ambiance here is unlike anything I've found in Wichita - and is rare to find in other cities I've visited. Their intimate atmosphere, quality cocktails, and acoustic artists combine to make a place that's an amazing date night hot spot, or a wonderful "let's go grab a drink" after a late business dinner. Their handmade cocktails are wonderfully boozy and balance strong pours with a great taste. The bartender will listen to your taste, answer your questions, and recommend something you're sure to love. I visit whenever I'm in town, it's that good. read more

Dockum - The Smoking Gun; their take on an Old Fashioned. Love the drink, keep the bottle. - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Wichita, Kansas

The south side of the bar is beautiful. The north side with the lower tables could use some decorating. Tablecloths would be nice. Old pictures of the Dockum Drugstore on the vacant brick walls would help. Great drinks , friendly staff. Could use a little more training. Was told they didn't make a Champaign Cocktail, but when asked to check with the bartender, she found out they did. Music should be of the speakeasy period. This place is okay. They do the speakeasy thing of having the door in the basement to knock on, having it dimly lit with those filament bulbs, live music, all that. I swear it's the same playlist every live performer plays, at least in the hour spanning my time here and Mort's. As far as service, I'd say go straight to the bar, as with anywhere. Servers quality will vary but getting up in the bartenders' field of view is the fastest way to get a drink. If you consider that it's downtown and what manner of hotel it's located under, it's not exactly the Grand Budapest but it's upscale enough that a single drink will cost about a tank of gas. And depending on the decade, half a tank of gas. I had a glass of scotch, granted it was a mid-range scotch, but three fingers on the rocks set me back about $25. I ended up nursing it for an hour just so future me wouldn't hate me so much. It's not a bad spot but even coming in at happy hour, there are other places with comparable cocktail menus for a lot less. I could've gotten that scotch for about a quarter of the cost without happy hour. For two glasses I could've bought a bottle of that same scotch and drank it at home. At least then I could drink with fuzzy slippers and sweatpants. And at the rate the server was making her rounds, it took about a half hour before she got my friends' drink orders down and another half hour before they got the drinks. There were a lot of us so she was moving pretty fast, but even then, took a while. I like the ambiance, it reminds me of my favorite bar in Anchorage, but it's just too expensive. read more

We stopped by for a few drinks during happy hour (M-F 6:00 -8:00 pm). It is in the Ambassador Hotel's basement and the bar is a speakeasy. The bar is cute, dim and tons of candles around the bar. The bar staff and "pharmacists" are very friendly. We ordered the Dizzy Dame and it was sweet and refreshing, the El Kabong and it's like a pina colada with a small hint of spice, an Atlantic fashioned (I think that's the name, it was on the happy hour menu) and it was a sweet and strong old fashioned and a Manhattan with the bar's aged barrel liquor and it was very strong. We would definitely return! read more

This place is amazing! Truly a hidden gem in Wichita. Located in the basement of the Ambassador hotel, Dockum is a modern day speakeasy. From the moment you step off the elevator and spy the wood door with grated peephole you know you're in for something special. Their drink menu consist of specialty concoctions they've come up with. They are mostly spins of classic drinks but with a twist here and there. You can also order up traditional drinks and beer and/or wine. During my visit I had the Old Smokin' Cody which was their variation of an Old Fashioned and it was really good. The food menu is limited and it's mostly finger foods. I had the Preservation Board which is their take on the meat and cheese board. It was very good and very filling. Certainly enough for two to share over drinks. The night I went (Wednesday) it was pretty slow and I was able to easily get a seat at the bar. However, my understanding is, normally, you need a reservation, especially on the weekends. To me Dockum is all about the atmosphere but that atmosphere comes at a cost. You should be prepared to spend a little money as the drinks are not cheap. Don't get me wrong, you're getting a premium experience but you're also paying a premium price. Price aside, if you want a different bar experience look no further than Dockum, I highly recommend it. read more

Dockum was so cool! I love myself a speakeasy and this one lived up to expectations. In the bottom of a hotel through a little secret room, this dimly lit drink spot is definitely one to surprise your friends with. I would call ahead if possible to see how much space there is. We arrived and there was apparently a big party on the way and there is no standing allowed so we were made to stay outside until enough people left that we could fit in. We had some friends inside already and they asked a table if we could all join up and they were friendly enough to say yes! We got in and I ordered a wonderful fruity drink that I loved. The drinks are quite pricey so I'd say it's a one and done type deal unless you're trying to splurge or are on a fun date! Definitely recommend. read more
