I am usually not very particular when it comes to nail services and I hardly ever leave a negative review. However, after getting both a manicure and pedicure at Magnolia nail salon in Austin, TX, I am deeply disappointed by the service offered. When I arrived, the water had been sitting in the bowl luke warm and still. Despite the slow service at the time of arrival, employees were sitting around on their phone, uninterested in the experience of their customers. The only particularity I had was that the nail technician be aware of the blister on my toe. After I requested that she avoid that spot, she continued to rub her finger over it, neglecting any focus of being gentle or taking her time. I had a different technician for my finger nails and both seemed rushed and their communication with me was demeaning. I also came with a friend who received a pedicure from a man who continually rubbed her legs up past the knee, under her mid-thigh shorts (Which is highly inappropriate in this profession unless requested). She made it aware that she was uncomfortable and the employee continued to massage past the knee towards upper thigh, making eye contact, contributing to the demeaning atmosphere of the salon. I could list a few other concerns, however I do not want this business to tank, I only hope they change most things about their appropriateness and attentiveness. Mothers of young children, please consider the inappropriate behavior of the male nail technician in case you are considering taking your kids for a pedicure. I think she forget to shape it nice form like normal people dooooo! I recently just moved to the area from out of state and came into the salon completely unsatisfied from the nail salon down the street looking for help. Upon arrival it was packed and busy but nonetheless the owner T greeted me and asked how he could help. I explained to him how I was just looking for a color change (I arrived at the nail salon more towards closing time and didn't want to be complicated) I expressed to him that I wanted a design on my nails but the previous salon I went to didn't offer designs. Although I asked just for a color change he told me don't worry he will get me one of his best, Vivian, to take care of me. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND BUSINESS PRACTICES. Today my teenager went in with her friend to get an SNS manicure with clean nails and no polish on. Her friend got her old set removed, a new set of extensions, and SNS and got charged $60. My girl only got sns dip, NO removal, NO extensions, and they argued that it was the same price and even took the card out of her hands when she started to question them and proceeded to charge her $60. What a horrible practice; they should be ashamed of how they do business. Their listed price for SNS is also $55, not $60, with a clear addition for removal and tips. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE THAT TREATS OUR WESTLAKE KIDS LIKE RICH KIDS WHO ARE CARELESS WITH THEIR MONEY. A lot of times, at other salons, when you request this service, you get a lot of eye rolls or they tell you to come back later. Not at Magnolia. They were so attentive! To everything: nail shape, water temp, if I liked the color, when my nails were dry, etc. I had to leave but my toes were not completely dry and this sweet lady put oil and Saran Wrap on my toes to help smudging. As I was running errands and doing cart wheels just to get my nails done today for a big date tonight. I wanted to look beautiful in my new outfit. I was eagar to quickly sign in for a pedicure and refill for my fake nails. I then was asked to pick a color then was seated at a station for my pedicure. The nail tech asked me what kind of pedicure I preferred so looking at all the different scrubs, paraffin, delux this and mega delux that I settled for the 55.00 dollar pedicure which had little packs of pedicure scrubs, creams and lotions. As I was settling into my chair getting relaxed the nail tech used a figernail size scrub on me. For 55 dollars I felt I was NOT getting the pedicure I am paying for. So I asked kindly to my nail tech why he was using such a tiny amount well he didnt understand and ask to abort the 55 dollar pedicure to standard pedicure with added Paraffin. He looked me like I had two heads .....so he continued my pedicure.Then the another female NAIL tech worked on my nails and talk about ......Ouch here And Ouch there, I was relief when it was OVER!! AH, CARAMBA. It was done very slowly but not what I expected from my last visit which was a major step above what he was doing. I was watching the clock and been there for almost two hours. I finally said I really need to leave soon so i quickly paid and ran out the door. Just went in for what I hoped would be a quick shape and polish. 40 minutes, two cuts to my cuticles that bled, and I was finally barely dry enough to leave. The polish was so old he had to thin it to get it on, and an hour after leaving its still not fully dry. The $20 (with tip) cost was cheap but i may end up having to take this polish off. Probably the worst out of about 20 lifetime manicures. Forgot to post this - it's from last thanksgiving time. The polish never dried. It looked awful, worse than if I had done it myself with $.99 polish for kids. I just took it off and had plain nails for my vacation. Ridiculous. read more

I had a few extra moments to kill (ok, I really didn't want to go into work) after a nearby doctor appoint, so I randomly cruised by this nail salon. They sign on the door said OPEN even though the hours listed showed 9:30, and it was 9:10am on my watch. Score! It was quiet, peaceful, and clean, and I had my pick of all the magazines and polishes (there were a TON, neatly organized by color = yay!). All in all, perfect for an early morning treat. The one and only gal there was an older, sweet lady, who promptly sat me in a chair. I desperately needed a pedicure, but knew a polish change would get me through and be a better choice time/$ wise. She fixed me up in a jiffy. Side note - I am always impressed when someone bust out the teeny paint brush with nail polish remover to perfect each nail. A polish change is $10 - more expensive than I'm used to, but then again it's Westlake. Still cheaper than a pedi, and it made my day. (And, when I banged my foot getting in the car to leave, she graciously re-did my big toe when I came back inside apologizing profusely). Ps. However, after getting a shellac manicure + pedicure I left beyond frustrated. The woman doing my manicure was more worried about talking to her coworkers then focusing on me. She pricked me with the cuticle cutter THREE times and had the audacity to tell me that I'm "too sensitive"! I'm sorry, I didn't realize saying, "OUCH" when I'm being cut with a sharp object is considered being sensitive! After biting my lip through this part of the manicure I couldn't wait to get my nails painted and get out of the salon! Sadly, I will not be back. read more

Best nail set I have ever received and also best service and staff ever! I had never been to Magnolia Nails and Spa until last week when I was going to the bank and realized it was my last chance before SXSW started that I would have to get my nails done. I saw their store front by the bank and about an hour before they closed for the day I randomly walked in to see if they had availability before they closed - so glad that I did! I was greeted by a wonderful associate named Pho who gave me recommendations when I told her what I was looking for. She informed me about SNS and now I will never go back to shellac. Pho also stayed at the salon about 30-40 minutes after they closed to ensure that my nails were completed and looked great (which they did!). Pho is absolutely wonderful/super sweet and extremely skilled at her nail game. I have gotten so many compliments on my nails and they are perfect! Nice leg massage, very thorough grooming, aromatherapy, heat treatment, etc. the equipment is clean and it's the only place I've been that uses a disposable plastic liner in the pedicure foot baths. I really love Magnolia Nails. I actually live in Tarry Town and have tried nail shops all over West Austin, but Magnolia is by far the best and worth the extra few minutes for me to get there. The atmosphere is tranquil with soothing music and no irritating television screens. The polish selection is excellent and the bottles are numbered and neatly arranged on the wall as you come in. I never feel rushed and the nail technicians do a good job with both manicures and pedicures. They also limit their communication with each other so that their focus is on you. This trip I got a deluxe manicure and pedicure with lovely scented oils, lotions, massage and hot towels---the cost was $67.00 for deluxe mani and pedi. I felt it was a great value for the relaxing hour I had. They accept walk-ins, but they do get busy so it might be best to call ahead so they're ready for you. read more

I felt somewhat taken advantage of because I was given a paper with a list of pedicures to choose from when I sat down. The least expensive was 40 dollars. I've had a 40 dollar pedicure at a nail salon before, and this was not worth it. I'm what you call a nail snob. Nail maintenance is very important to my career as a hairstylist and finding a good place I can trust is absolutely necessary. I LOVE magnolia nails. The ladies are so sweet and the place is super clean! They line the pedicure baths with a fresh plastic liner every client and the customer service is wonderful. Jenna does a really excellent job and I am never disappointed with the service I receive! Only thing missing is so hot pinks and neon bright colors, they carry mostly reds. Magnolia nails is my "go to" place for mani/ pedi and an occasional neck massage after work. They are honest and hard working people evidenced by the fact that the last time I went in they told me they owed me money back from the last time as they said I had "overtipped" them. I wasn't sure that could ever occur :) so when I smiled and asked how, they showed me I had just added the tip in excess of the amount I wrote, so they wanted to give me back what was due. Worst nail salon I've EVER been to. (LITERALLY) I was in the area and had a last minute event to go to. So..... I hopped on Yelp and looked for the closest salon with a reasonable amount of stars. It wasn't even titled as "Magnolia Spa or Nails" it simply said Nails in the sign above the building. Or something else super generic. I now see why. I wouldn't want to put so much personalization into something that truly wasn't very personable. I went in for a quick touch up. I figured anything would be better than nothing. I was VERY wrong! Mind you this is the first salon I've been to since I've been to my regular salon. Which is out of Austin. From the moment I walked in. I felt out of place. I was shocked of the mediocre appearance being in such a great area. I literally felt like I was in a nail shop on Rundberg. No lie! I signed in. That to me was odd enough. I felt like I was at the Drs office. Waiting. Again. I see why they do this. Because, they obviously do not care about their customers. Your just the next in line. Just a like a number waiting to be called. I was browsing polishes after signing in. Most of the polishes are empty. Never have I seen such a lack of selection. No worries. Majority of time I do gel nails anyways. Shellac on my pedicure && colored acrylic gel powder on my nails to be exact. I asked for the color options to select my color of (gel acrylic powder). The gentleman nail tech brought me my options. There was a good amount. Although. As I was looking I realized this was shellac. Which wasn't what I wanted. Again. Simple mistake. The important part is that we're now getting to the good stuff. Haha. I sat down in the pedicure chair so that they may begin. Water was filled up so I placed my feet in. Freezing cold!!!!!!! He asked if it was okay and I told him it was cold. He asked me again. It's cold???? No I'm Lying! Well apparently I was a liar the moment I walked through the door. So he brought me the options for what I wanted. Which was the colored acrylic gel powder. I literally had less than a handful of reasonable options to choose from. There was one color wheel. And less than a full one was well. Which isn't a lot. Unless you think baby poo color is cute. That wasn't enough options for me. Because for one I'm not going to be wearing baby poo. Or ghetto purple glitter or something along the lines. I would have been fine with a nude or casual color. I'm really not a picky person by ANY means. As I was looking. I told the gentleman It changed up the game when I was misinformed of the color options. So he asked me if I wanted to continue. I said. No thank you and he snatched the color wheel options out of my hand and got up n walked off. I said to the gentleman (IF I WOULD EVEN CALL HIM A GENTLEMAN AT THIS POINT) -Man "Well, that was rude sir!" He looked at me n scrunched his face in disgust. I tried to ignore his behavior. But I thought of all the things I was noticing while in the chair. I realized. That no matter how elegant the salon or trashy. NO customer should ever have to have anything snatched out of their hand because you changed your mind about receiving service from them. I told myself to speak up because it's not right that he was so rude. I asked if he was the manager n they (him as well as another tech) said the manager was not working today. So I said. Okay. No worries. I simply told them that I will b calling him/her in the morning. Or everyday until they are working so that I can let them know of my experience. The man went to the back room or whatever is in the back. N I proceeded to the front where there "Magically" appeared a manager. She asked what was going on. N I calmly told of the situation. Then out of the corner of my eye I see the man re-appear from the back room. After I explained myself. The manager BLATANTLY lied to me. Saying. "I spoke with the nail tech and he said he didn't snatch it out of your hand. That he just took it from you." Well how did you have a conversation while he was in the back.? N why is it that you should take ANYTHING out of my hands while it is in MY hands.? I can't think of ANY reason. I wouldn't even allow my 5 year old daughter to act in such way. I thought it was ridiculous for her to side with her employee when IM THE CUSTOMER. N its still NOT okay to take things out of customers hands. A simple apology would have been enough. So I told her that this was the worst experience I've EVER had at a salon and I will NEVER return. Seriously. Even if you paid me to go I wouldn't. Her response? I quote! "Our GOOD customers will write the good reviews. And your young. You still have plenty of time to possibly come across more bad experiences!!" The staff here is incredibly rude. I went with a friend and we both got mani pedis. The pedis were just "OK" and felt very rushed (they weren't busy). Our manis were the worst either of us have ever had (I could have done a better job at home on my own and I am terrible at it). My friend's mani immediately started chipping within a couple of hours, mine was such a mess I stopped to get nail remover wipes to take it off. She ended up going back and asked them to fix hers, which I did not do because the woman was extremely rude to my friend, told her it was her fault for not getting gel (I never get gel because it weakens my nails and I've gotten lots of great manis). The "fix" they gave my friend was to fill in the chips with more polish, which frankly made them look even worse. There are places that are just as cheap as this one, but with much better customer service. read more

I used to come here all the time but somewhere down the line they got a bit careless. Most recently I went in for a shellac mani/pedi. The technician was rushed, and left my shellac only half dry..I asked her if she thought they were done and she insisted that they were.. So I convinced myself it was all in my head and left the salon. My nails ended up being dull and sticky and I had to have them redone elsewhere. I tried them out again, desperately needing my acrylics to be removed.. They did not soak them off as is recommended.. they tore them off my hands and my toes. She filed THROUGH two of my nails. I thought I was going to cry I was in so much pain. I left, and have not been back since. It really is unfortunate because it is a very convenient location and the guy who owned it has done my nails for as long as I can remember (he owned a different salon before).
