I had a bad experience, but that was a 1-time occurrence. Since then, it's been positive and Magic is the only place I go for nails & feet. They are quick, efficient, reasonable, and great at what they do. Thank you, I appreciate you!

Got my toes and nails done here. They were nice and took their time which I appreciate but my nails are chipping already and I got them done ONE DAY AGO. The gold is the part that's chipping. I've done this style so many times and have never seen polish fade or chip this fast. Not to mention it was literally $90.00?? Seems a bit extreme.

Good: no wait time. Bad: not friendly, the salon needs updating and the pedicure was subpar for the cost! I paid $45 and I'm not satisfied with my pedicure at all! My Skin still looks very dry and there was not enough scrubbing. When speaking with who I assume is the manager, she said that's just my skin! Then she said to go more often. I already get my pedicures typically once every 1-2 months and I usually get better service. However, I was short on time and just needed someplace nearby but I won't make that mistake again!

Yes that's dried blood you see on my fingers from the manicure I just received. I found this shop on Yelp and decided to give it a shot because of its reviews. That shot backfired because this was possibly the worst nail experience I've ever had. The lady I was assigned to had no idea how to do acrylics and despite the numerous times I asked her to fix certain things I didn't like, she didn't listen until it was too late and my nails began to bleed. I'm never stepping foot into this shop again.

Nail broke off after two days from a fresh fill-in. Smh.

So I wasn't going to say anything because maybe my nail tech was having a bad day but this is literally the worst experience I have had at magic nails. First off, my nail tech was very rough and repeatedly kept hitting my skin with the electronic drill. She even cut my pinky in the process. Secondly, I don't understand why I would get charged $40 for a regular acrylic fill-in with shellac when a fill-in is $17?? A $23 upcharge?? Thirdly, which is the reason I'm writing this review, is that my nail broke off today, TWO days after getting this fill-in. I am livid. So for these reasons, I will not be coming back to magic nails.

I had been going here since I moved to Michigan from California..I have noticed the service and quality of products decline .My nails look horrible 2 days after getting done the gel peels I go and get redone and she charges me $15 to repaint !!!! Ridiculous...My fills cost $70 with pedicure Im up $130 not including the $12 tip I leave everytime.My nails and feet look like I never got them done.The prices went up and now she charges $3 for debit or credit cards. I'M DONE! I was a very loyal customer but I like my nails to last for 2 to 3 weeks not gel polish chipping and peeling and my pedicure still rough on my heels a day later .My man rubbed my feet in bed and said baby you need a pedicure....I said honey I just got one yesterday. ...So no longer will I be throwing money out the window.Also when customers walk in and say Hello ..Someone working there should respond and say it back.Its a common courtesy. And not washing your hands and going to next customer is unsanitary!!

I absolutely loved my shellac mani and pedi! I was so pleased with the service and sad that I don't live in the area to return. Places where they do excellent nails is hard to find and I would highly recommend this nail salon. I wish I got the name of the lady that did my nails but I know she was originally on station #2. $70 for gel mani and pedi is great value!!! Thank you!!!

Jenny did my nails. I got shellac and she did such a great job! My only small complaint is my makeup causes the white to lose its brightness. Not sure if that can even be prevented honestly. It's happened at other salons as well. So the salon was nice and busy but the workers kept a steady pace to get everyone in and out fast. Love my nails I'll for sure be back! *UPDATE* so I came back because I loved the work Jenny did and got so many compliments. I brought my friend and our experience was pretty bad. We both had pedicures done by some guy. He was awful. He didn't shape my nails the way I wanted them so I asked him to fix it and he tried to argue with me. He was sloppy with how he files nails and even sloppier with painting them! The nail polish is all edgy and uneven towards the cuticle. I asked for a nail design hoping one of the girls would do it. He offered me stickers...... so then I just told him to do pretty lines. The lines aren't going in the same direction. I was so mad at this point and just wanted to leave. You can in the picture the nail art of you want to call it that.

A little on the pricey side for myself but worth the splurge. My nails look amazing. I got exactly what I was thinking of getting and I was admittedly nervous because I haven't gotten my nails done in few years. The woman who did my nails was very patient and considerate when it came to me and my anxiety. Would come here again because I'm happy with the results. It's been almost a week and the holo looks like it's chipping away slightly but that might have to do with my job. read more

Absolutely loved it. Decided to go based on other reviews, it was really easy to make an appointment and I asked for Jenny since I saw her name mentioned so much in previous reviews. She was super quick, very light handed, did exactly like the picture I showed her, and it was only $55 for the full acrylic set (before tip). Super tiny salon but who caresssss when your nails are gonna come out how you want them to. I will be going back :) read more

I love coming here for my shellac manicures. Lindsay and Jenny are the best! I get my manicures from only them. I would ask for them if you can. I don't do fake nails or designs, but Jenny is the one who does, and from what I can tell she is really great at it. The selection of shellac colors is really, really good. I don't think the selection of polish is the greatest, but I've always brought my own anyways for pedicures. I like Essie colors and they don't have Essie (for those who prefer it). They are really good at keeping up with the latest nail trends, they have all the new holographic nail stuff that is super popular right now for example. It is always best to call ahead, in my experience. read more

Absolutely terrible job. As soon as the man sat down he had a horrible attitude, wouldn't answer my questions and was clearly doing a very rushed job. The shape, color, technique is all terrible and when I asked him to fix it I got more attitude. Color was applied unevenly, is already chipping even though it is gel acrylic and the sides of my nail aren't even covered! The LAST time I come here. read more

IN LOVE with my nails. Now It's in a sketchy little strip mall...but don't let that fool you!! It's a hidden gem!!! the inside of the salon is totally cozy and it's totally worth it. The staff is so personable and they all speak English as well as their native tongue and they actually talk to you and hold a good conversation!!! and it's not an awkward situation like most nail salons where you sit there and you can hear them talking about you but you can't understand them. These ladies were there was good TV on, happy faces, giggles, smiles and amazing nails and services!!! Trust me on this one! read more

I never write these so here we go. I just moved to the area so i was nervous trying a new place. I got there 49 mins before closing, the lady was nice and told me there would be a 30 min wait which was fine because it was pouring outside! I finally sit down and the lady does my nails the fastest i have ever seen! Even tho she was probably ready to get out of there she still did a good job. I was the last person there and the other nice lady, waited for my nails to dry even after everyone left. I will be going back ! read more

Used to be great now terrible. Rude tech, nail broke within 3 hours, charged me $90 for acrylic and some polish with foil. Would have paid $75 anywhere else. Didn't take her time at all and just did the quickest thing. Never going back. read more

I was apprehensive due to reading other reviews. I mean some people all but for their hands chopped off! Lol But This place was nice and clean and i experienced professional service. I wouldn't say it was a spectacular experience that I would remember for all time but it was nice nonetheless. The smell was not too strong of chemicals and it was a smaller atmosphere. It was a pretty painless experience although I did get cut by the buffer but the lady doing it immediately put something on it to stop it bleeding and apologized profusely. She was a very nice lady and was very attentive to making sure they looked like how I wanted. She was very careful and I got coffin shaped nails ($5 extra for shape) that were teal with one accent nail which was sparkly. Altogether for a gel set it was 40 each for my sister and I and I tipped which meant I was fully satisfied. The color was beautiful. I would go back again if I was in the area. read more

Absolutely worth driving a little further to come here for shellac!!! Superior to Arborland nail salons by every measure- price is lower, shape and style is great, and the manicure lasts longer. I can speak to the nails and eyebrow waxing. Great services! Best nail salon in Ann Arbor area. Pro Tip: This is a small salon and turns away walk in's when they get too busy. Take the time to call ahead a couple hours to book an appointment. read more

I went here for a pedicure after reading about them on Yelp. Once I got here I found out that they had recently changed management (in the last month). The offerings are different than what is listed on yelp. Pedicures are from $25 -$45 dollars. I had the deluxe which I think was $35. The deluxe included a paraffin wax and a special scrub. My feet have never felt better. The nail technician did and amazing massage and also made sure the color on my toe nails was perfect. I will be returning to this location and would highly recommend it. read more

Love my nails! They were very accommodating to what I liked and they were very nice. They will fix details as you're getting your nails done and they will be creative with you if you don't exactly know what you'd like. They did a dip and then shellac to make them a little thick enough so they won't break. read more

I just moved to Ypsi from New York and had no idea where to go to get my nails done, so I looked to Yelp. Magic was highly rated and after stopping at 2 other places that Yelp said were open on Sunday but actually weren't, I was pleased to hear someone answer the phone when I called. They told me to come right in and as soon as I told them I wanted stiletto acrylics they knew exactly what I meant, something that I had to explain sometimes even back in New York. The staff was very friendly and the location was spotless. They did an amazing job on my nails and it was so cheap! I'm so happy to have found this place! read more

In over 25 years of getting my nails done, this was by far my worst experience! They left me "soaking" in water for over 30 minutes, and barely worked on my nails. It was difficult to communicate with the technician and she made super thick lines on a French pedicure after being asked to make it thinner. Already behind schedule, I gave up on getting what I came for and could not even receive a proper manicure. She asked her colleague to "help" and she came over and filed the tops of my nails with a very harsh electric file and made them so rough it almost bled. I really should not have paid them. The only reason they could possibly still be in business is because of the location. Simply awful. read more

I had a regular mani and pedi today by James. He was careful, thorough, and gentle. My nails look amazing; I was delighted by my experience. Jasmine was the technician for my 14 year old niece's pedicure and full set of acrylics. My niece is also incredibly pleased with her nails and her experience. We'll both be back! read more

I got my nails done with my mother and sister the day before my wedding, and I couldn't have been happier with my experience at Magic Nails. I am not going to knock off a star for the ventilation issue (note: if you are sensitive to smells, you may not be able to tolerate the chemical smell of the small salon), because the ladies are extremely friendly and they did an absolute fabulous job with our nails. I feel terrible that they have to work in that condition, however. The shellac manicure was the most long-lasting shellac I've ever had. The ladies took the time to meticulously design our nails. I love this place. It's so close to Eastern and the owner is so nice. I went today and I had a new girl. I could tell she was new because I've never seen her before and she was very delicate with my feet. My feet aren't jacked up or anything but I'm just used to the roughness of Tami, I guess. But this new girl was cool as well. I think the longer she's there she'll get the hang of things. She said she'd only been working there for a week. read more

I'm getting ready to make another appointment tonight and can't believe I forgot to review this place! There's a reason everyone loves this place and it's rated so highly. Definitely do not let the strip mall location deter you. I've been everywhere from mall nail salons to high end salon/spas (had acrylics for several years in and after high school) and I am convinced that these ladies are the BEST. I made an appointment for a mani/pedi the day before a friend's bachelorette party in early July and was extremely satisfied. Their shellac color selection is HUGE! They started on my pedicure while I took my time to figure out the exact shades I wanted because I just couldn't decide. The entire process was so relaxing and I had a great time. I was already thinking about when I could get in there the next time. It's now almost 4 weeks later and, while my nails are growing out, there are still only a few little chips. And I've been doing some serious gardening. I even accidentally got a nail in the way of my belt sander (making a giant jenga set) and it still didn't chip or scratch. They take the time to do it right and it shows. My toenail polish is still going strong as well (not shellac). Cannot wait to make my next appointment for later today (an update with pictures to follow)! read more

I have been going to this salon for almost two years. If I hadn't have moved away for a short period of time I would have never left. First thing, all of the people who work here are super friendly. Secondly, they actually will have a conversation with you. The third pro is that they do an amazing job!! For the price in comparison to anywhere in Ann Arbor it doesn't make sense to go anywhere else. The place is small, so make an appointment. Also don't be surprised if you are asked to wait an hour or longer because they do get busy. Although you may have to wait, but the wait is well worth the service you receive. I will continue and will forever go to Magic Nails. Thank you to the lovely staff for making my hands and feet look great!! read more

I was greeted right away and the tech was available within a few minutes. The front was very clean and tidy. Things went downhill after that. The work station of the tech who did my nails was filthy - covered with dusty and crust. The longer I sat there, the more I saw and the more frustrated I felt. Tools like nippers for cuticles seemed to have been used on other customers with old cuticle on them. I'm so embarrassed that I didn't get up and leave. The tech used an efile to tear up my nail beds and then buffed them out anyway. This seemed to be a substitute for actually cleaning the old regular nail polish off. The nail polish application was sloppy with the tech applying way too much for each layer. No base coat was used, so my nail beds will be stained now. This tech applied the polish like it's gel and not like it's ordinary nail polish that needs to air dry. It's got bubbles and streaks and is cracking where the top doesn't quite cover the color. Especially strange was that I was asked to pay and tip before my service was finished. I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend.

Instead of my acrylics safely being soaked and removed carefully, the nail tech used a plastic nail extension to slide between my real and fake nails to pull and pry them off. This was incredibly painful, and resulted in many layers being unnecessarily pried off of my natural nails. The nail tech also sliced into my real nail doing this, cutting me beneath my nail and making me bleed. Nothing was done or said, nothing was cleaned or replaced. In the end, I left with a cut deep beneath my nailbed, deeply damaged nails, and with a TON of polymer left on my nails and around my cuticles from this hack-job. Absolutely horrible experience. Will never be coming back, and will be warning everyone to avoid this place!!

I never made it back in due to my schedule. Overall, I won't be returning. In all my years, I've never experienced some forgetting to apply top coat...Then to charge me add-on fees? An unfortunate, poor experience.

I was in Ann Arbor for a few days and wanting to get a pedicure. I'd mentally resolved that I would not be able to get my nails done on a Sunday. However, I went down State Street to grab some lunch. As I exited the restaurant with my to go order in hand, I looked up and saw the nail sign on in an upstairs window across the street. It took me a while to find the right door to go into to get to the nail salon; however, I was successful. You enter in a small door that's nestled between a couple of businesses and have to take the stairs up to the second floor, where Athena Nails is located (along with some other small businesses). I went in half expecting them to actually be closed (despite the sign being on), or unavailable to take me at that time. I have my lunch in hand and needed to be back at my hotel in about 80 minutes. I was shocked when the woman said that she could take me immediately, but I readily agreed. It's a suite space, so there were two pedicure chairs, and 2 or 3 individual nail stations. One pedicure chair was already occupied, so I took the second. I only use regular polish on my natural nails (no gel, SNS, or acrylics). Even though I'd noted this at intake, I had to clarify this once in the chair as the experience seemed, we were headed for gel polish. Once clarified, my nail technician quickly, switched gears and went to collect colors that were close to the shade. I chosen from the options originally provided. I was surprised to see that the regular polishes were all from a luxury brand (Hermès) but it made the slightly higher price I was quoted make sense. I see the experience is no frills, because it was just a straight pedicure. None of the extra add-ons that lots of nail shops offer these days. No paraffin wax or hot stones or scented waters; no massage chairs; etc. The chair did have a basin for hot water to sit your feet in, but it didn't do anything special. The technician cared for my nails, painted them, applied some special oils to them, and then lotioned my feet. I was able to eat my lunch (a salad) as she worked. I got out of there on time to get back to my hotel. Once I got to my hotel, I was able to change clothes without ruining my pedicure. It was completely dry with just the products she used. I didn't need time with my feet under a fan or anything else. Here's the kicker: I am now, two weeks out from this experience, and my polish still looks fresh. My toe nails are just now starting to show the first sign of even growing out the tiniest bit. If I lived locally, I'd patronize this place again and again.

This place seems like a hole in the wall but is actually quite awesome! I was skeptical at first because I am new to the area and have tried several different places with mediocre results. I walked in on a Sunday at 1:10 and was completely finished and checked out by 1:45 with the most beautiful nails I've had in a LONG time! The girl who worked on my nails was named Jenny, and she kept up a great and funny conversation as she worked quickly and painlessly (sad to note the latter isn't true everywhere). For $35, she took off my shellac, filled my acrylics, shaped them up beautifully and redid my shellac! I am so thrilled to have found this place and will be returning! Getting your nails done at new places can be scary because it's usually a gamble. You can certainly bet that this place, at least Jenny, is totally worth it! read more

Great great great service!!!! I had milk and honey spa pedicure. It was the best in Ann Arbor - Ypsilanti areas by far. Service was done by Jenny, very relaxing. There are a lot of options on pedicure. Everything in the salon is very clean. Everybody is so nice there. The prices are very reasonable. I saw some nails art that they do, it is awesome. I've had many experiences with nail salons and technicians both bad and good but while at Magic Nails I had a great experience. The girls there were very nice and did a great job with my shellac manicure and milk and honey pedicure.
