My girlfriend is a regular client of Magic Nails and I was excited to finally get some time to myself to give it a try. I went Sunday afternoon for a Shellac manicure and pedicure and when I walked in, the salon looked nice on the inside. I was seated immediately-no wait whatsoever, which was super nice. The lady (I didn't catch her name), who was wearing a filthy and stained smock, began soaking the old Shellac polish off of my toes and then started my manicure. I have relatively short nails but she didn't ask how I want them shaped, and I kid you not, she spent one minute filing them. One minute. After looking at my nails, tsk-tsking, and saying, "A lot of cuticles", she only spent 1-2 minutes on those. When I asked her if she could "get here and here", I received an extended 'look'. She spent another 15 seconds on them and called it good. All the while, I was looking at the color swatches and chose two colors, one being my first pick and the other my second pick. She got up and came back five minutes later and told me they had neither. No problem, I picked a third and a fourth. Five minutes later, she came back and said, "Sorry, sometimes we don't have them anymore". She had picked a color herself that I didn't like and at that point I told her I would just stick with a regular pedicure and clear polish. Well, that garnered another extended 'look' and she repeated, "You don't want the gel?" five times and each time I said, "No thank you, just the clear coat, please". She applied lotion to my arms and when I say "applied", I mean just that, there was no massage. She rubbed the lotion in, sprayed alcohol on my nails, and went to work slapping on two coats of clear polish. Shoddy at best. On to the pedicure. I picked a color (yay, they had it!), and she proceeded to drill off the old polish after removing the foil/acetone. Not wipe or gently file, she drilled it off. I asked if she could file the nails instead since my nails are thin and break easily and she filed about 3/4 of the polish off and called it good. I figured it wasn't worth pushing, she would remove it before she applied the new polish. We walked over to the pedicure chair, I sat down, and the first thing I noticed was water on the floor on either side of my chair. I pointed it out to her and said, "It looks like you may have a leak or something". She called over some guy and he said, "Yeah, the drain is clogged". So, there was standing dirty water on the ground until the manager guy came around and hit it with a mop during his routine round of mopping. Disgusting. Wanting to see this through with a decent result, REALLY HOPING for a decent result, I settled in, happy with the massage chair selections. It was nice and relaxing. What was not relaxing was the massage during the pedicure, or lack thereof. That only lasted five minutes, if that, for both legs. The polish was applied quickly and haphazardly. All told, both services were completed 45 minutes after I entered the building. That included the time she spent looking for colors. I believe in tipping well and if something isn't right, I'll ask for it to be corrected. However, it wasn't until after I got home that I looked more closely at my toes and the polish does not cover the side of my nails, nor were the ends painted. I have no desire to go back and have anything corrected, despite what I paid. It was dirty, it felt like an assembly line operation, and I won't waste my time trying to fix my crappy pedicure (I won't even count the manicure). This place will not get a second chance from me and I would give it zero stars if it was an option. read more
